Frankie's Scaloppine

We used to frequent this locale when it was Tucci Benucch.  This is the first time we've been back since it reopened as Frankie's.  The Yelp reviews were on the mark -- great food, but so-so service.  I had the risotto special & my wife had the seafood pasta special, both of which were fabulous.  However, we were tucked away in a corner & the waitress was not easy to flag when we needed something.  The food is worth giving them another try.

Great location in the Bloomingdale's Building...convenient to Gold Coasters and tourists.  

This place has a nice atmosphere and is "cozy" on a snowy Chicago day.

I asked at the hostess desk if they accommodate special requests such as boiling the pasta without salt. The host was very enthusiastic and positive.  He told me their chef likes to be challenged and will accommodate any request as long as they have the ingredients in house.

However, when I placed my order, and asked for the entree to be changed a bit to be lower in fat and sodium (I gave specific requests) the server pretended she spoke less English than she really did (I later heard her speaking with native English language speaking staff and she understood their English perfectly).  She pretended not to understand my requests.

So, overall, I think this a nice Italian place (owned by the Lettuce Entertain You chain) with good Italian food, and lots of pizza choices, at very fair prices (especially for Michigan Ave) but we had a lazy waitress.  So, instead of 4 stars, I offer 3.

Having said that, the next time I stay at The Drake and want to eat nearby due to poor weather conditions, I would give this place another try.

By the way, if you are looking for Chicago deep dish pizza, this is not the place.  They offer traditional American style pizza as well as flat bread pizza.

A few years ago I worked across from Frankie's and could always smell their food... (heavenly) but because I worked for low-wage-paying-Potbelly, I couldn't quite afford it. Anyway - we finally went here a few weeks ago and their calamari is so incredibly delicious!! Everything else we ate, too, was very good. We were there on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too busy and we got a nice private and spacious booth inside. I heard great things about their meatballs and I think I'll get that next time.
