The wife and I went for dinner on a Tuesday at 5:30. Service was very slow. Ordered two beers which sat on the bar for at least 10 minutes before someone brought them over. The salads didn't have enough dressing. Mostly dry lettuce. Would have asked for more but the waitress never came around. The wife ordered chicken marsala which was also short of sauce. Don't sit towards the back as there is a disinfectant smell from the restrooms. Bill was $51 before tip. Will not return.
Review Source:I've been here twice, first time I ordered the Villy sandwich for takeout. I was told by a coworker that their food was good but was hesitant to spend the $10 on just my lunch, nevertheless I ordered and the food was ready fast and it really was a good sandwich. Plus it came with yummy fries so it made it worth the $10, I was definitely full. The second time I ordered takeout, I just wanted something small to add to my small lunch I had packed for myself so I ordered a cup of their clam chowder. It was over $5, which I felt was outrageous for a cup of soup and then when I got the soup back to my office I realized they had only filled the cup about 3/4 of the way and it wasn't that big to begin with. The flavor was good but it was mostly broth, barely any potatoes or clams... Pretty disappointing. I guess I'd order a sandwich again but not going to bother with the soup.
Review Source:Went to Franklin Towers this past Saturday night with 8 pm reservation for my boyfriend and myself. We arrived a bit early as there was a concert and wanted to find parking. Just a short wait to get seated, long enough to order a beer, and then we were seated.
They had a special menu for the concert up the street so the boyfriend was a bit bummed not to be able to get the fish we has seen online but the waitress said she would ask the chef and it shouldn't be an issue to get it made. Boyfriend declined kindly but it was nice to see the waitress wanting to get him what he wanted, with no issues.
I ordered the 10oz New York strip, give it a 10 for sure! Best steak I've had in years! Cooked to medium, no need for a steak knife it was so tender. Topped with Gorgonzola and plenty of mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. The glaze they had around the plate was amazing as well.
Boyfriend ordered the chicken Marsala which was a 10 as well! Again tender meat, on top angel hair pasta with portobello mushrooms with fresh green beans. Amazing flavor! Â
Oh, we also had two dinner salads that came with our entrees. Fresh, crips and the homemade dressing was a balsamic base with something else I can't recall but it was delish! the bread rolls were hot and homemade too.
Great atmosphere, great staff. Will surely be returning to Franklin Towers.
Cheers!
The food, service was pretty good. Â I really liked my chicken meal, and my partner thought the pork chops were ok. Â The place is definitely a bar setting not a fancy restaurant. Â One bad thing about the restaurant, they charged me for my coke and 2 refills on soda, bringing my soda total to $9. It wasn't the end of the world, I just would have gotten water, if I had known.
Review Source:Walked in for dinner on a Thursday night and there were a few people sitting outside and a few tables inside. We got a booth in the back across from some colorful paintings of Jerry Garcia and John Lennon.
Our server was really nice and kept refills of our drinks coming and coming. I loved the fried brie appetizer with raspberry sauce on the side. I could have eaten three of them for dinner and been happy.
But luckily, I got the steak sandwich. It was cooked perfectly and a really good slice of meat. Just enough fat. It was served open face on a garlic roll. The fries are SOOOO good!! My favorite fries in Albany so far (I moved here recently).
-1 star for lack of cheese options. I wanted to add cheese to the sandwich but was only offered American, Cheddar, Swiss and Bleu. No Mozz or Provolone? Swiss was ok but not my top choice for steak.
Great place for lunch!! Â Everytime I go I get the Meacham The Meacham (Grilled 6oz chicken breast Caesar wrap with homemade Caesar dressing. Served with a side of pasta salad). Â I substitute the pasta salad for a side salad (mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion and homemade Balsamic dressing). Â One might not think there is much to a Chicken Caesar Wrap but there certainly is to this one. Â DELICIOUS!!!
Review Source:Had a great meal here last night for my Birthday with my wife. Â The food was great, as was the service. Â I had the special, a 20 oz Ribeye, which was an amazing cut of meat seasoned and cooked to perfection. Â Our waitress was friendly and very helpful with menu questions. Â This place has a menu you would expect at a very dressy place, but was a very comfortable casual environment. Â I didn't even know this place existed until I met the owner a few weeks ago, and I am now a huge fan. Â Next date night I know where we are going!
Review Source:My wife and I have eaten at this restaurant for lunch and dinner. Last night we celebrated our wedding anniversary dinner at Franklin Tower. Â Each time we've eaten here the service staff is attentive to our needs and desire. Â The food is excellent. Â Full disclosure, I'm not a fan of swordfish. However, I ordered the swordfish last night and I found it delicious. Â I would order that again and my wife would order the Salmon Oscar. Â Not only was our meal excellent but the vegetarian spring rolls very tasty.
Review Source:Went here once for dinner, and was overwhelmed by the quality and taste of the food. Â OMG!!! You can expect this food served at expensive restaurants, but not in a bar. Â I had the marinated chicken, it was incredible both in flavor and presentation.
The selection of beer on tap is limited to just four or six, and there seems to be a medium variety of other liquors, so if you're a beer snob you won't like it here. Â
Generally the place was clean and the music was at background levels so I could hear myself think. Â The service was nice to me, but I can imagine that they could turn rude pretty quickly. Â Whoever was the bartender that night, he was telling a history of the bar to some of the other clients, which was kind of cool.
Had a burger here the other night and enjoyed it. Â I had no expectations walking in (I'm from out of town and did zero research; it was the closest thing around I could walk to!) but was pleasantly surprised. Â Very pleasant staff and cool bar area. Â I didn't go upstairs to the dining room, but I enjoyed the atmosphere downstairs. Â
The burger was cooked medium, the way I like it, and had a nice charred exterior. Â Inside it was moist. Â The bun was fine - it tasted like griddle which can be a plus - and the condiments were crisp lettuce and two small tomato slices. Â The fries were good, but slightly soggy.
The bartender was polite and professional.
Been for lunch a few times, never been for dinner. Went yesterday for lunch.
Food-
3.5 Stars. Club sandwich was good, not great. I ordered fries instead of pasta salad, they were soggy. My past experiences have been similar, good not outstanding.
Atmosphere-
5 Stars, I really like the feel. They need to fix their coat storage/hooks though.
Service-
4 Stars. Good if not a little too "cool for school"
Value-
2 Stars. Expensive food for lunch, not really as high quality as the prices are.
I give this family-owned restaurant 5 stars because of the UNforgettable ASIAN CHICKEN WINGS. OMG. I've never had anything like it. It's truly, sincerely THE best Asian chicken wings I've ever had. The wings had so much flavor. If you're in downtown Albany, you have to go here for the wings.
Review Source:My boyfriend just started working at a law firm around the corner, and apparently this is where they like to go for post-work drinks.
I joined them here the other evening, marking my first time at FT's. It's a fun place to go for drinks, although I didn't try the food. I think the bartender may have been one of the better bartenders I've experienced in Albany, and my dirty martinis were prepared absolutely perfectly everytime. Nice n' dirty, just the way I like 'em.
The decor is fairly simple, with dark wood booths and photos of old icons like Jerry Garcia. It's a nice change of pace from so many of the other bars in this 'hood. I'm looking forward to heading back.
I am astonished that this hasn't been reviewed. but i guess the fact that it is a bit hidden/out of the way from the rest of the downtown dining establishments may contribute to that.
if you go down state to the end (broadway) and take a right at the suny building, it is a few in on the right. and let me tell you. it is SO worth it. i have only been here for lunch several times and keep forgetting to come back for dinner. but now that i have read their menu, that won't be something i do for long.
a warning: the menu just for lunch was so delightful that i needed the very friendly and patient server to come back several times. the selections were so varied and mouth watering that i just couldn't decide. and when i did i was overjoyed. and then... they have creme brulee for dessert. Â so not fair. i live and breathe for creme brulee.
the decor is really cool and funky with very cozy highbacked booths. the service was efficient and warm without being intruding. Â i would recommend that anyone try it, you will Not regret it.
