Two thumbs up for the Skirt steak with chimichurri! SO flavorful, tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Â It was truly the rockstar among a skilled chorus of rice, beans, and sweet plantains which come with all the Cuban entrees. Â The chips and salsa were not to my liking, but that is Mexican food and I went there for the Cuban food, which was great. Â I can't speak to the Mexican side of the menu. Â My coworker ordered the Chicken Milanesa which was tender, tasty, and BIG. Â All in all, great food, great prices, wonderfully attentive and friendly staff, and you can expect to go home with delicious leftovers. I will be back for more.
Review Source:Fantastic food and fantastic service!
We had mariquitas as an appetizer and they were so fresh! Not like those places that serve you mariquitas out of a bag and microwave them, no, these were the real deal! For my main course I ordered the fajita combo (chicken and steak). Delicious!!!! The portion was a hefty one and the peppers and onions were fresh and delicious. The chicken and steak were nicely seasoned and juicy! We also ordered margaritas with our dinner, they were tasty and potent!! Hands down, the best Cuban/Mexican I have tried in all South Florida.
My second time here, not as good as in April 2012.  The portions are small for a latino restaurant and everything is a la carte.  The pork carnitas were dry.  Tortillas were extra...  only in Florida!  The salsa for the chips was real fresh.  Was there Monday night so I was the only one there only had one waitress.  restaurant only hires girls, hence no busboy service  :(
Wont go back here on my next Lauderdale trip.
Everything was very good, went with the recommended Julienne style pork which included white rice, plantains and black beans. All of which was very good. Black beans and plantains were spectacular. Chips and a very pink salsa come with the meal. Ordered a local soda, Jupiña, pineapple flavored and made with sugar. It had a good flavor and was not overpowering.
Review Source:I dined here this past Saturday night and enjoyed it. Â It is located in a dilapidated shopping mall, but the inside of the restaurant is very clean and orderly. Â This restaurant is pretty big, so I don't really think you will have to worry about a wait for a table, if you are in a rush.
I started with a simple house salad with blue cheese that was satisfactory and then had ropa vieja. Â My girlfriend had the filete de pollo. Â Both dishes were served with the customary rice and beans and plantains. Â Both dishes passed the taste test and we enjoyed them. Â The rice was buttery and the broth the ropa vieja was served in was delicious and I ended up slurping it up with a spoon. Â However, Â I did not note any major discernible improvement in taste from these same dishes I have had at Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine, located a few blocks south of this place. Â However, one thing this place has going for it is the exceptional friendliness of the wait staff/managment who came by our table on a few different occasions to see if we were enjoying everything. Â If you prefer family run establishments, this place is for you. Â Service was also very quick.
We did not sample any of the Mexican food. Â However, I do plan on returning to this place as the food was good, as was the service, and the price was more than fair. Â One minor complaint, it was rather warm in the restaurant on the night we went.
While in Fort Lauderdale, we were craving Cuban, so we gave this place a shot. Â The people here were somewhat rude, they sort of rush you to order, but luckily the food made up for it. Â We had the following:
- Beef & Chicken Empanadas - the beef empanadas were decent at most, however the chicken is pretty distasteful, sort of taste sour
- Pork Chunks with Tostones - deep fried pork chunks until golden brown, sprinlked with special mojo juice and topped with sauteed onions - this is very delicious and flavorful, like a party in your mouth, the tostones, which is a deep fried plantains, was decent
- Roasted Pork - a traditional cuban dish marinated in tasty tropical spices slowly oven roasted, pulled then grilled with sauteed onions - this was dish was decent, not enough texture, so I got tired of this dish quick
- Skirt Steak with Chimichuri Sauce - this dish was very tasty and flavorful, and the chimichuri sauce gave it a bright fragrance and tasty flavors with the skirt steak
Overall, they have very delicious food, but I only crave for Cuban once in a blue moon, but if I am ever in town and craving Cuban again, I will definitely come here.
Hands down some of the best Cuban food we have ever had! Â
Everything from the arroz con pollo, to the steak palomilla, tostones, marudos, lechon and ropa vieja was absolutely delicious! Â Eight of us ate here and enjoyed all of this food for only $70. Â
Service was wonderful. Â Wish we had a Fuego Latino in New Mexico. Â Can't wait to go back for more!
my husband loved the fresh salsa- it was probably the best we've had. tastes like its made minutes before served. I ordered the classic Cuban dish, ropas viejas (shredded beef stew) and it was delicious! came with beans and rice and amazing fried plantains. my husband got the Cuban sandwich, very good for the value- 6.99 for a very large sized sandwich. cute place that is rather large inside despite the narrow front from the outside. hit the spot for our Cuban food craving while on vacation.
Review Source:I had been wanting to try Fuego Latino since it was rated as the best cuban food in south Florida. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, not that I was expecting that, but it is fairly plain inside. I have seen a trend in many south Florida cuban restaurants that don't have a full bar, which I understand not wanting to get a liquor license, but when I have cuban food, I want a mojito. To our surprise, they had mojitos on the menu, and unbeknownst to us until after we ordered, that the mojitos were really made with a type of wine that is supposed to taste like rum...not the same.
On to the food... I would say it was more of a cross between Mexican and Cuban. We started with both a ham/cheese and beef empanada, along with croquettes. The empanadas were okay, nothing exceptional. As for the croquettes, I could have done without them...they just weren't that good. For our entrees, I got the lechon asado and my husband got the pork chunks. Both were good, but nothing that blew our socks off. Probably the highlight for me was the flan...it was excellent!
Overall, I would probably give this 3.5 stars, as it was very affordable (maybe $40 for our total check), but it also showed in quality. I think with a few tweaks it could be much better, but I was satisfied with what we got for our money.
Do not order the pork chunks if you're going dancing afterward. Â You have been warned!
But if you like pork and Latin food as much as I do, you just found a little slice of heaven. Â Their salsa is puree'd so I can't pick out the onions which is the only thing I don't like. Â We went back since and it was just as awesome the second time around. Â I'm looking forward to round three!
Juego en fuego!! Â Wait, what did I just say?
Went here a few weeks ago while on a business trip. Â As we pulled up to the parking lot, we noticed someone sitting outside in a lawn chair in the middle of the parking lot. Â We weren't sure what to make of the whole situation, but it turns out they sometimes need to make sure there are enough parking spots available for their clientele, since there is also a gym in the same strip mall.
The service was quite friendly and we ordered the Roast Pork and the Pork Chunks. Â I'm not sure what Cuban food is supposed to taste like but the pork was cooked just right and was not dry at all and had a lot of flavor. Â Prices were quite reasonable as well.
What a great, friendly place to eat outstanding Cuban food.  We were in Miami from DC to watch the Caps play the Panthers and wanted to get some great Cuban/Latin food.  This place was so good the first time, that we drove back out of our way to eat before the hockey game.  Fresh salsa and chips when you sit down are a great way to start your meal.  I had the Roast Pork (Lechon Asada)  and it was awesome.  We also had the Pork Chunks (Masas de Cerdo  as an appetizer and it was very well done. Â
Loved the Cuban Mojito, which is made with fresh mint grown by Jackie, one of the waitresses. Â Speaking of Jackie, she was very friendly and answered all of our questions. Â A great person and a great hostess!
Prices are very reasonable and the portions are more than generou.
Atmosphere is very relaxed and inviting. Â Next time I'm within an hours drive of Fuego Latino, I'm heading there for great food and a friendly atmosphere.
This place definitely satisfied my long-overdue Cuban food craving. Â Papa rellena was good. Â Cuban sandwich was solid. Â Yucca fritta was great too. Â Sauce would have been better if it was more creamy and less oily. Â Cafe cubano was excellent. Â Would definitely go back on my next visit to FLL.
Review Source:Great food great service. I don't need to say more. The staff is very friendly and quick. Food here is amazing. I had the Milanese steak and it had a great fresh flavor. Â What surprised me is that they messed up on my dad's beer order and they gave him one on the house! (And yes I checked the receipt And they didn't charge him). The atmosphere here is really calm and quiet compared to other resturants of it's kind. I am def going back there.
Review Source:Two tourists from California on a hunt for dinner for two after an evening walk in Fort Lauderdale. We turn to yelp for some tips and come across some tourist traps, highly priced, poor quality type of food you find at any tourist location by the beach. We decide to venture just a little way from the beach and search for yelp. Thank goodness we found this hidden gem! We arrived and were seated promptly. The waiters were very nice and attentive. We ordered Sangria and each had the "ropa vieja" pork platter that came with rice and beans. As we waited for our food, we had chips and salsa. This restaurant has both Cuban and Mexican dishes on the menu, which I thought was pretty cool as it gave people more options of foods to eat. We loved the food!! It was very delicious, perfect portion, and great price! Each of our plates were less than $10! We ordered 2 coffees and we were happy happy tourists at the end of the day :) We highly recommend this restaurant and will likely return on our next visit to Florida.
Review Source:Took a big group of clients here based on the Yelp reviews and was very happy with the food, the atmosphere, and the service. Â the Fuego platter appetizer combo was $16 which I thought was a bit steep until I saw it, this thing is massive and literally everything on it was delicious. Â I got the roasted pork plate and it was very good as well. Â
Atmosphere is nice but casual, the service was relatively fast and the waiter was friendly. Â I like everything about this place.
I can't compare this to other local places since I'm here on a short vacation, but this was certainly the best meal we had while here. Â Hubby got the roast pork -- it was melt in your mouth delicious. I had chicken julienne, also very yummy. I strongly recommend the red beans over the black, and the yellow rice over the white.
Review Source:I went to Fuego Latino based on the Yelp reviews and on a recommendation from my hotel, which also gave me a 15% off coupon to use with my meal. Â I ordered 2 strawberry margaritas, probably the worst I've ever had at a restaurant, could not taste the alcohol at all, and it was more ice than anything else, barely had the flavor or strawberry to it. Â I had the nachos w/beef & cheese for an appetizer, that was good, probably should have just had that. Â I also had 2 enchiladas, those were okay, but def had better before and I guess I just expected more out of this place based on the reviews. Â The service was good, just the food and drinks not up to what I expected, and I didn't have to wait to get in either.
Review Source:Just. Go.
Until tonight, my opinion of Ft. Lauderdale's cuisine was, sad to say, confined to Olive Garden and Red Lobster (I come to Ft. Lauderdale to visit my wonderful but culinarily conservative grandma).
Tonight, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon Fuego Latino.
We're San Franciscans. Â We're exposed to good food on a regular basis.
Fuego Latino, simply put, gives most everything we've had in recent memory a run for it's money - and we're including NYC on this list.
The food is sublime (I went vegetarian; he went carnivore) - and we both had dishes that were a perfect, succulent mix of savory/sweet/omg -
So go. Â The price is fantastic, and the servers were delightful.
And tomorrow we're going to try to bring Grandma.
We just found out about Fuego Latino recently...we have been Las Vegas regulars. Â We tried it out the other night.
I have to say, it was quite good. Â We both had Cuban. Â I'm not sure why a lot of latin places in south Florida are Cuban/Mexican. Â When you are seated, you're served tortilla chips and salsa...I would much prefer Cuban toast.
I have to say that based solely food, Fuego Latino and Las Vegas are very similar...the mariquitas are great (much better than Versailles in Miami - blasphemous to say, I know!).
The service was great, and they're all really nice. Â The prices are maybe a tad lower than Las Vegas...and it's a tad more informal.
It's a very solid, everyday sort of place to dine. Â I'll be back!
When Cuban food is good, it's one of my favorites. Â I was happy to see this place's solid reviews and went with high hopes which were not dashed. Â I thought I'd try their chicken breast, knowing I'd be judging it against one of my favorite dishes (Versailles in LA's version) and it totally held its own. Â The sides - black beans, plantains and white rice - were all perfectly done, too. Â To boot, the service was great and they've got a walk up window, where you can get Cuban coffee and sandwiches. Â While I haven't tried that yet, I'm always fond of places that have such things.
Review Source:This place needs better outdoor lighting or better signage because you can't easily see it and I can't believe I didn't come before. Good prices, friendly staff and quick service, the food is very good, I ate the picadillo and it immediately reminded me of my grandma's recipe. A few coworkers have mentioned this place in the past and it's just now that I made it in here, delicious!
Review Source:After reading in the Sun Sentinel that this was the top reader's choice Cuban restaurant in Broward County and having a coupon, we decided to head out for dinner.
Wait staff was attentive and the service was quick.
Food is so reasonably priced, I could not believe it compared to the Cuban food prices in NYC and North Jersey that I am accustomed to.
Starting out with the empanadas, they were very large, fresh and cooked perfectly. Just served without any sort of sauce... wish there was an empanada sauce to go with them. Dinner was garlic chicken chunks and I had the skirt steak with chimichuri sauce. Â The steak was perfectly medium cooked and the garlic chicken was a huge portion. The steak was missing some seasoning which was my only complaint even with the chimichuri sauce.
Highly recommended even if just for the empanadas!
So with much hesitation...against my gf's excitement and absolute trust...I visited Fuego Latino last night in Oakland Park....I wasn't up for a hole in the wall experience where I question the cleanliness of the kitchen and food...I love hole in the walls usually but not last night - I was being high maintenance - Â HOWEVER... to my surprise and great reluctedness...I traded my crappy attitude for a JUST DO IT one...
Pulling up it looks bare...but clean... no one in the parking lot... Â I inwardly rolled my eyes...
Walking in...I was Surprised by it's cleanliness...and the decor - very plain...it wanted to bring me back to some childhood pizzaria...the dark tile floors...the wooden in cased booths...I found myself relieved...our waiter...came to seat us...he was a peach...
I am severely a.d.d. and the mix of Cuban and Mexican sent me into quite a tizzy...luckily for Mr. Peach...he eased my mind by starting us out with a carafe of Sangria and  the Bandeja Fuego (Fuego Sampler) $15.95 which included:
Mariquitas-Good.
Tamal with Roast Pork-I liked the idea but a bit too mushy for me but I can see what they were trying to accomplish and can appreciate it!
Fried Chicken Chunks-I'm not a latin food chicken eater but they were ok.
2 Croquetas-My fav!
Yuca Frita - Absolutely perfect size and consistency!
Empanadas (beef and chicken) Â - the pastry was PERFECT-not every restaurant who touts the best Cuban food can perfect the pastry!
The Sangria as expected was cheap and had canned fruit cocktail in it - but it's aight... as soon as the food comes you forget the poorly assembled "fruit" thirst quencher....
This HUGE platter came out...with sauces and I was in HEAVEN.... There was no reason to order more food... but we had already done the deed by ordering the  Roast Pork (Lechon Asado) $7.95- which I had a bite of and it was delicious!
The lighting kept changing from brighter to darker...not sure if it was an electrical thing or the manager just trying to get a look at us lesbians indulging our food and conversation lol. :) Â
Again, Mr. Peach was great and we finished our night with a cup of Cafe Con Leche...
I will never have to travel to South Miami again to enjoy what I thought was impossible for Fort Lauderdale to have...
Thank you Fuego Latino...for making my night hot!
I wrote a review a few month ago and yelp filtered it, i don't know why, so I'm writing another. This place is great i have been going there since day one, the staff and the food are great and they are vegetarian friendly.
that's all i have to say, it's really good and you should try it.
As good as it gets for the price.
It's a family run operation, by the Fuego family, of course. Hence they do take an interest in their customers. The location is somewhat unexpected at the end of another one of those fading strip malls, but on the good hand there is plenty of parking.
I had the skirt steak with chimichuri sauce. The portion was huge, it was full of flavor and done perfectly to my order.I'd say it is about as good as good as you can get for only $14.50. Anything to that equal would be $40 at Chima and at least $28 at La Argentina.
