So convenient - location and hours!, so hip, so sweet. No, really, SO sweet...like, I'm getting an innocent cavity just thinking about this place.
Now, I'm vegan so I can't speak for the gelato's taste...but my dairy-loving pals rave about it. Plus, is it awesome to get to watch the process...what a concept!
I personally go for the specialty coffee (thank you for carrying almond milk!), dairy-free Chai (amazing!) and the abundance of accommodating pastry options I couldn't dream of finding at any other gelateria in Chicago. Vegan-friendly muffins, brownies, and even crepes!? Yes please! Gelato Greco makes me feel like I have no dietary limitations. It's simply wonderful.
FINALLY! they are open....its just such a convenient location and I felt like by a place called GELATO GRECO to be sitting there tempting me and not being open...it just really made me want gelato even more!
So tonight on this exact rainy night I saw 2 ladies working and went in. I tried the flavors they had to offer and I liked most of them. I was very fond of their Hazelnut, Chocolate, and Ricotta flavors. I can not remember the exact names of them but they were delicious. I went with an affogato which is one of my favorite treats...I went with the hazelnut gelato and a decaf espresso to top it. It was very good. For $6 I got a big scoop of gelato and a shot of espresso. I've paid $11 at other places. Fair price and delicious. I'll be back to try the crepes next!
Ermahgerd, I've died and gone to heaven & no one can convince me otherwise.
I had an extremely busy day yesterday & forgot to make dinner, and my morning has been so hectic that I didn't have time for breakfast. Â I stopped at Gelato Greco for something to eat and I found utter bliss!!!
Typically, I temporarily avoid "Now Open" restaurants because I like to give it a week or two so they can get their stuff together and work out the kinks. Â This place has worked it all out and is running as smooth as smooth can be. Â And who came up with those recipe ideas!? Â I LOVE YOU!
I ordered the Peanut Butter Maple crepe. Â Not only was it an absolutely delicious, melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful crepe, but it was priced nicely and decorated beautifully. Â Someone has their food artistry down pat.
I also ordered the Coconut Custard Latte. Â If it wasn't for the fact that I had many more things to cross off of my heavy to-do list, I might have bolted myself to the chair and just ordered lattes all day long. Â I have never, in my entire life, had a better latte (psst, I was a barista, and I made some bomb-diggity-awesome lattes).
The atmosphere is lovely, up-to-date, and super clean! Â Seems like a friendly place for all! Â The employees are superb, too! Â I tend to expect snotty baristas who wouldn't know foam art if it hit them in the forehead, but Krys knocked the foam art out of the park and had a fantastic personality to boot. Â Her professionalism and eagerness to please her customers was astounding. Â It's always so refreshing to see a true artist (of any medium) to exhibit a love for what they do. Â She's great. Â Gelato Greco is great. Â Great is such a small word, but look up the definition... GREAT 1st time visit. Â I will be a regular, just you wait and see.
