Steak salad. Do it.
Seriously though, I'd love to pick this place up and take it back home with me.
For why?
George & The Dragon boasts many positives: an attentive, professional staff, a friendly owner, killer fare (more on this later!), a laid-back cool vibe (think rustic, minimal, independent art on the walls, lots of light + large windows), and an overall neighborhood feel that seems hard to beat.
Let's talk about food, shall we?
Annie D and I split the banh mi sandwich and the steak salad. Both were very much to our liking, but the steak salad really stole the show. I'm going to have dreams of "The Katherine" - sliced sirloin, Amablu cheese, dried cranberries, field greens, an onion ring, and parmesan dressing. So incredible.
The beer/wine/drink list looked solid, but since it 'twas mid-day and we had lots to do, we abstained from a more spirited adventure.
I'd love to spend more time and money here, but alas, doesn't seem to convenient, now does it?
George and/or the dragons: open a MKE location? Por favor?
This is the best pub in the Twin Cities, based on my own random sampling. Not only that, but the outstanding combination of on tap beers and excellent food on the menu make for either a great meal or a good night on the bar stool. Â
Moreover, service is consistently friendly, kids are welcome, and the place itself is beautiful. Â Well worth the trip.
English pub type of fare. Â Good selection of beer on tap and in bottles. Â We started with the sausage rolls, not what I was expecting. Â They were good, but would maybe try something different next time. Â Then we had the beef rib & the fish and chips, both were delicious. Â Cream Brule for dessert---AWESOME!
Review Source:I was super happy with the food here. Â From the Lumpia, to the fried grean beans, the steak sandwich and the five spice pork with rice and a fried egg was delicious.
Coming from Northeast it's a bit of a drive but when I'm over in south this is a must.
I really loved the wood work and atmosphere.
Way to go G&TD
This is a small brew pub located in south Minneapolis that has seemed to really catch on. Â
Food-wise - they offer some great choices and twists on the British pub food.
Service-wise they are still working things out, particularly if you didn't plan ahead with a reservation (STRONGLY recommended). Â Because of its trendy nature you can be in for a very long wait. Â In our case about 20 minutes longer than the host promised which is the primary reason I cannot rate them higher.
Visited last night with a friend for dinner and after reading several reviews I would concur the chips (french fries) are soggy. Â The rest of the food was pretty good, my friend had the burger which she said tasted great. Â We split the onion rings which were really good. Â Nice batter and a good onion. Â I would go back but not until I try a bunch more local places I have on my list.
Lots of kids and the wait was 20 minutes unless we sat at the bar - which did have space for us.
All the wait staff was pleasant - which is a nice change.
Great food here, and the baby friendliness is out of this world! If you have a little one and are looking for a nice family dinner out, I highly recommend George & the Dragon. We didn't need to bring anything to soothe or entertain our 1 year old. He was greeted, high chair already waiting after being asked if needed when we called. Immediately offered blueberries and there was a nice selection of books too.
The specials all sounded fantastic and in season. We opted since it was our first visit for a burger and the salmon off the menu. It was amazing, perfectly done fish and the suggested wine pairing, spot on. Our waiter was kind and helpful, though a bit flighty, (minus one star). He forgot to put in a couple orders for drinks and one side dish. Even with that, it really did not take away much from how great our meal and the experience was, just raised an eyebrow.
Tips: call ahead and get dessert! The cookies travel home nicely and were ridiculously gooey and good.
This place is awesome. The food is delicious and VERY fairly (lower than fair, actually) priced, the decor is nice, the service is *fantastic*, and the beer is good (nitro tap!) It does get busy and I've had a reservation both times I've been, which is good as I haven't seen open tables.
Food: The bacon and onion dip is one of my top 5 favorite foods. Ever. SO GOOD. People I've been with have really enjoyed the burgers (Dragon and George particularly), I've had the beef rib toasty both times and loved it. Â They have season items/specials too - the asparagus with homemade wasabi aioli was awesome. I've never had room for dessert, but I know they rotate them and make them fresh etc. I know from following them on fb that they use local produce, as well - always a huge plus.
Service: Really attentive, friendly, and helpful. Last time, our server (a tall, skinny, bald dude, mid-30s...wish I remembered his name, because he was awesome) managed to actually get a table full of Minnesotans to interact and take suggestions - not a small feat, haha.
Beer: Um...Young's chocolate stout on nitro tap. enough said.
Re: pricing... how can you go to the applebees/tgi fridays/chilis of the world when you can get wonderful, fresh, local food from an awesome pub *for the same price*? Answer: you can't.
Also they participate in various charity fundraising  things as well...in January they donated a meal through Eatiply (I think it's tied to Second Harvest?) per every meal eaten at the restaurant, they have deals if you bring in a donation to a food shelf, etc.
A Caprese Toastie is supposed to be...toasty!
Perhaps our visit fell on an off day in the kitchen, but we were seriously disappointed by much of the food our party ordered. Â First off, my caprese toastie was pitiful. Â The fresh mozzarella that should have been warm and stringy was cold and had not melted at all. Â Even with the tomatoes and pesto, the sandwich had next to no flavor. Â Sad face! Â Someone else at my table ordered the burger with the BBQ sauce and two others had cheeseburgers requested to be done either medium or medium-rare. Â They all came out well done which was particularly irritating to one person (JOHN!). Â We did have the batter fried green beans which everyone seemed to enjoy. Â
They've got a great selection of brews on tap and it is a pretty nice atmosphere to just hang out with some friends. Â
I also feel compelled to mention that it seems strange the staff uniform is a mechanic's shirt...
George & the Dragon, you have really won my heart. Â You are the perfect neighborhood pub that I want to frequent often.
You are approachable, and casual, with mighty fine menu options. Â And it doesn't hurt that your beer list is pretty decent too. Â So far I have tried your Elizabeth & Victoria salads-- with those incredible toasted breadcrumbs on top, I want to eat those everyday. Last but not least. your George Burger IS MY FAVORITE THING YET. Â My boyfriend kept eying my burger, wanting to steal it. Â It was that good, people. Â Cheddar, mustard, & leeks are truly a winning option on George's burger.
Let's also talk about your record player that the servers gladly play with a smile. Â I can't wait to return for some wonderful food, service, & beer. I love this English pub, right here in good ole Minneapolis.
They allow you to call ahead and put your name on the list, very helpful on busy weekend nights. Â Great great beer list. Â Lots of local brews and quite a few from the UK. Â Had a three nitros on tap as well, which is great if you're into nitro. Â The bacon onion dip is a must get, some of the best dip I have ever tried. Â Pretzel bread is good, just a giant pretzel cooked as a loaf of bread, delicious. Â The onion rings were meh, onion rings, what do you expect. Â I got the curried shrimp which came with creamy cucumbers. Â Good rub on the shrimp, and a relatively large portion at that. Â The cucumbers were a great pairing with the shrimp, good all around plate. Â Others at the table had a burger, which I snuck a bite of, and was very good. Â The soft shell crab on one sandwich was flown in from Maryland that morning, great to hear in MN. Â Its an all around good place, nothing mind blowing, but its a small neighborhood pub and doesn't need to be. Â I'd go back again, absolutely.
Review Source:I don't understand how more people don't know about this place! Easiest 5 star review I've given.
I stumbled upon this place after searching for good affordable places in the twin cities on yelp. Stopped by on a Friday night at 8 and had one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The tap selection was incredible with a healthy bottle selection.
For appetizers, we thought the onion rings were going to be amazing so we knew we had to order them, but we were also distracted by the pretzel bread. Obviously, we ordered both. Both were amazing! Pretzel bread was incredibly soft with a great flavor. Onion rings were just how I like them. A plate of 8 HUGE onion slices in a thick beer batter. The chefs clearly know their way around a deep fryer...
For the meal I ordered the George burger and it was great. the burger came with a side of what I thought was plain mayo but turned out to be what I assume was truffle mayo which I ended up eating the leftovers on a piece of bread the next day. Burger was well cooked and the toppings (mustard creme and frizzled leeks) were awesome. The side of green bean fries was also great with a similar beer batter to the onion rings.
Overall, the experience was amazing. I will be telling all of my friends about this place (well maybe not all so I can still get a table)...
Absolutely loved the Victoria salad. Thanks to our friendly waitress for suggesting adding an avocado. So good that I went and got a second one the next day to take with me on the plane ride home to Chicago. I feel this adorable resto will be on the repeat list when I visit Minneapolis.
(And don't be afraid of the kids if you come earlier, they'll clear out shortly and blend into the backgroun noise while they're there)
Second time here, this time on Sun. Â Called ahead for table for 7. Â Walked right in as the table was waiting. Â I had the BBQ burger and Boulder Mojo (a favorite of mine on a Nitrogen tap). Â It was a fantastic lunch!! Â Love the atmosphere and the staff is the best. Â Others at the table had salads and burgers...and they loved them! Â Can't wait to come back!!
Review Source:This is my second trip to George & The Dragon... We went for Mother's Day Brunch (it was my very picky family's 1st time) and couldn't be more pleased with the fare. Our menu consisted of the cinnamon sugar donuts (these are basically enlarged Tom Thumb donuts-- Very tasty but nothing 'over the top'), the Beef Rib Benedict, Egg Scramble Special (smoked salmon, cream cheese, and fresh dill mixed with egg), the Asian Hangover, and a pancake (dad HAD to try on the side)...
Everything was tremendous... I previously ate the Asian Hangover and wanted to try something new so opted for the Beef Benedict- the meat was very tender, well flavored, and mixed perfectly with the egg yoke- I would have appreciated slightly more Bearnaise sauce but, didn't 'ruin' the dish....
Mom and Sister had the smoked salmon egg scramble- these two NEVER become excited over food-- they won't stop talking about how incredible it was! Very light eggs paired with melted cream cheese, ample smoked salmon, and just enough dill... I loved the bite I was able to steal... Unfortunately, the potatoes are more like mini french fries-- VERY TASTY but, offer unnecessary grease to a dish that should be complimented with something equally as fresh and light...
My dad opted for the Asian Hangover (per my prodding), he too was astounded at its flavor and quality... Really, this meal has succulent pork that's coated in Asian 5 spice- the jasmine rice perfectly accompanies the meat and garlic green beans, as it's able to absorb and preserve that wonderful seasoning...
4 stars solely because the music playing was loud and rather obnoxious for a Sunday Brunch... Otherwise, the food is sensational! -- I will continue to sample the menu however, for a first timer-- indulge in the Asian Hangover-- It has really solidified itself as an absolute staple within the Minneapolis Dining scene...
Dragon's menu is a weird mix of low-priced, eclectic eats in very sizable portions. Throw in the south-Minny, non-"Bro" locale; comfortable, bright seating; and Nitro Tapped beers, and I'll definitely make a reservation--which thankfully they take to make my Dragon experience logistically pleasant. Great for dates, early evening beer cravings, and strangely, a good place for a steak (there's only one).
For nomination in the small pub category, Five stars.
Went here for the first time last night with some friends and we had a great time. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers for the tips about the wait list and the insane wait times here. I called at 6:30 to get on the wait list and had a table ready for four by 7:45. And this was during an April snowstorm where we got about 7 inches of snow. Still an hour and a quarter wait! At least we got to wait at home thanks to the call ahead wait list.
We had the bacon onion dip and it absolutely lives up to the hype. Get it! Creamy, cheesy, warm.. bacon - what's not to love? I had the braised beef rib with mash and garlic beans. My husband had the beef rib toastie. We both loved what we had. He raved about the fries. The beef rib wasn't overcooked, was tender, and fall apart delicious. The green beans were strongly garlicky (that's excellent in my book) and the potatoes were good, if a little lumpy.
Beer selection was diverse and tasty. Dessert (chocolate bread pudding with vanilla ice cream) was delicious and that's saying something because I don't normally like bread pudding.
Service was attentive without being overbearing. It's definitely a loud, and small, place, but completely worth it. We will definitely head back.
Came back for lunch while I was in the area and it was another great experience.
This time I had the homemade ginger ale and banh mi. Â Loved the ginger ale, it was bubbly, hint of ginger and not too sweet. Â Just perfect in my book. Â I am admittedly a banh mi snob, it was a staple meal growing up. Â It's an art to have that balance of crunchy bread and meat to pickled radishes ratio. Â They got it spot on with the (unexpected) twist with the asparagus and pulled pork.
Service was impeccable. Â Knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly.
Nice job George & The Dragon. Â I am officially obsessed with you.
Very cool place. Â Loved in vibe and decor inside. Â Somewhat British Pub, but still a neighborhood feel and not dark and dreary.
Had the Dragon Burger and while it was good, I had hoped for more spice. Â The bun also seemed to be really greasy, although I couldn't tell where the grease was coming from.
A nice selection of drinks and friendly service. Â
We will be back to try more on the menu.
Been there three times in six weeks for lunch and dinner. Awesome food, great service, great specials, reasonably priced. There is a reason this place is always packed.
Don't leave without trying the homemade ginger ale.
The host (who I think may be the owner?) is vigilant and attentive to every table.
This place could be twice as large and would still be packed every night.
WOW. Â That's all I have to say. Â WOW.
I stopped here for dinner with my cousin (and his wife).
The atmosphere and loud, yet amazing. Â It has a very casual feel, with a sort of upscale/medieval look. Â Everyone was having a great time, enjoying wonderful tap beers (local micro, not the national brand crap), a great wine selection and enjoying fantastic company. Â
We were all starved and I wasn't shy about ordering a Surly Furious and Battered Green Beans (after eyeing them on the table next to us). Â The green beans were nothing short of amazing. Â Medium battered, mildly salted, fresh/crispy green beans and a divine truffle aioli. Â
Collectively we ordered Classic Fish & Chips, Scottish Salmon and Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib. Â I had the beef rib and this one is officially a food group in my food pyramid. Â The beef rib itself was tender, no knife needed amazing; the sauce should be given in cups as a side beverage. Â My dish came with a massive mound of homemade massed potatoes and fresh green beans.
I had been told all night that the bread pudding was a must; so, I caved and ordered it. Â It came out pipping hot with a huge scope of vanilla ice cream on top (sprinkled with powder sugar). Â Don't take my word for it, just order it!!!
My cousin should have a frequent visitor card to this place and I'm sure has a profit sharing plan in place (he eats here more often than he should). Â Call and make a reservation, you WON'T be disappointed.
For having such a great experience on NYE, this review is undeservedly late for G&TD.
It's definitely an eclectic atmosphere, but one that's rather inviting.
Here are the highlights:
- Beer selection. I have my favorites and tend to stick with them, but I went above and beyond my comfort zone here.
- Onion rings. When you think back on your lift, it's amazing how many times you've had bad onion rings. You know the ones I'm talking about....soggy, no flavor, the "onion" looks more like a limp noodle. Not here. You won't be sorry with these rings.
- FIsh & chips. There was plenty of fish, which is a nice change from most places serving mostly chips.
- I had bites of the bangers and mash and macaroni. If you like mac & cheese at all, it's a great selection here. When you add bacon, it's one of the best things in the world.
I can't wait to come back!
We decided to go on a Saturday night and, heeded by Yelp's many warnings, I decided to call ahead of time. I was told they only give out reservations for 1/3 of their restaurant while 2/3 is for walk-in's only. Yet, I was still advised to call 1.5 hours early to put my name on the waitlist. This wasn't too problematic, because by the time we got there, we didn't have to wait. I think this is their way of avoiding people waiting in lines that go out the door.
Décor: I had the impression that if they held reservations for 1/3 of the restaurant, it'd be a big place, but it was actually pretty small! Decorated in a very classic British pub style with quirky (yet somehow distinctly English) artwork, you have a choice between booths, seats or a nice pub bar all in one space.
Service: Well-versed in the menu, prompt and nice. Our waitress was also honest when she said she dropped 3 of our onion rings on the floor... and brought back out 3, haha.
Food:
- Onion rings: Well breaded and not soggy but beautifully crunchy. The aioli sauce was really good; we ate that up pretty quickly
- Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib: A very huge portion. I wish there was a bit more sauce/gravy, but the beef was tender (i.e. no knife needed, just strip with a fork!). Mashed potatoes were good, nothing extraordinary.
- Beer list was decent- there are only about 10 draught beers or so
- Friend had the Asian Hangover which he thoroughly enjoyed
Overall: Prices aren't too bad and it's a well run place with just an adorable theme (my friend pointed out that it was an English theme with an Asian twist - possibly signified by the Dragon in the name??) and small things like, "God Save the Greens" as the salad title on the menu. Good food, good atmosphere, it's good in my book!
I can be a hard sell on restaurants. Which is why I can get in a rut of going to my favorite restaurants over and over again, just because I know what to expect and am dubious that other restaurants could deliver as solidly.
But George & the Dragon delivered. Delicious comfort food in a cozy environment - the place was buzzing the entire time we were there. We had the fish and chips, the beef toastie and the fried green beans and all were spot-on. Simple food, not overthought, reasonably-priced and based on my experience today, I would definitely go back.
Kudos to George & the Dragon for bringing back a perfect go-to neighborhood restaurant!
Went with my 9 mo for HH on a Wednesday afternoon with a friend and his 2 yo. We ordered a couple of beers (Boulder Avery nitro pour) and the battered green beans and burgers (the Dragon Burger) with chips (the British kind). The service was solid and the food was tasty (maybe on the salty side) but very good.
Beer selection wasn't massive, but well curated with a mix of local, non-local, and imported craft brews. Will definitely return, but would avoid on a busy day.
My family and I went to George and the Dragon yesterday and I was amazed. We were rewarding our son after he competed  in his first karate event. We were all all very happy with our choice.
We went for Sunday brunch and I was impressed on their different take on both the traditional English breakfast and typical American fare. Â
The part that they pulled off is the "it's a kid- friendly restaurant and bar at the same time." Â My observation was of two distinct things:
1. Little children enjoying the reading area, and;
2. Two guys at the bar drinking PBRs out of the can.
Not sure how they did it, but they pulled it off successfully.
A great corner restaurant in South Minneapolis! The food is amazing, I love any of the roast meat they serve. The fried green beans are not the healthiest choice, but SO tasty.
Make sure to call ahead or make a reservation if you don't want to wait for a table. It is a popular place, so a reservation is a good  idea!
First time George & the Dragon. We went there on a Monday at 6:30pm and it was a 45 min wait (they told us 45 min wait and it was right on the dot). Â We tried the fried Green Beans and they were perfect. I tried some the week before at the Blye Door Pub and these were 10x better. We went there for burgers. I saw something else I wanted besides a burger and asked them to merge the two. They did with no complaints. It was awesome. It tasted just the way I wanted it to and my compliments to their chef.
It happened to be my birthday and we asked for a free dessert. Instead of free dessert they gave me a thank you card with a gift certificate to come back. What great marketing!
If you can tell I was impressed, this is my first post on yelp.
Give them your business, because they deserve it. But, it's a cozy place that's busy do plan on making an evening out of it.
Also, parking was busy. I parked on the one way street on the east end. You have to go south and then north again to reach this hidden parking spot, but it was the closest besides out front.
I was pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed George and the Dragon. I planned to stop in on a Friday night with a few girlfriends for dinner on a Friday night (make a reservation!) thankfully we had a cozy table in the back away from the door, but the list was still a two hour wait on this blizzard-like Friday evening.
We started with a few glasses of Garnache and the Brae Brothers Bancreagie (phenomenal beer list), we were happy ladies! Not being super hungry we got the pretzel bread for the table, little snack so order more if you want something to fill you up. I had the Mary Salad with a generous portion of Salmon on Arugula with a dusting of some kind of walnuts, amazing! They had cucumbers with dill which I picked around, not a dill fan, but overall it was great. Dining companions also had the fish and chips, all local, all good!
Perfect neighborhood spot!
I've been putting off writing this review and I'm not sure why. I guess I wanted to be WOWED by this place, and it was good...but didn't quite live up to the hype. And that sorta bummed me out, even though we had a perfectly pleasant dinner...
Overall, this place didn't really have the "feel" of an English pub to me - it was far too clean and well-lit - but I think that can be forgiven. One thing that bothered me was they needed more of an entry or waiting area when people come in the door. We were seated right next to the door and constantly had people gathered directly behind us - made it feel very awkward.
I had the dragon burger and it was alright. The burger itself was cooked perfectly, but the bun and toppings were sort of lacking any wow factor. For some reason I was expecting a spicy/pickly tasting burger, and that's not really what I got. It was flavored mayo and teeny tiny non-crunchy pickled peppers. For my personal preference, the bun was too soft. Still, not a bad burger at all, but based on the other reviews I'd hoped to be blown away. The fries that came with the burger were...British. There's a reason I don't eat fries when I'm visiting the in-laws over there - fries in the US are generally more to my liking, but again that's just my personal preference. You might love them :)
Everyone else at our table seemed happy enough with their meals. There were a few items on the menu that I wanted to try, but my husband discouraged my piggishness... I'd be very curious to try the sausage rolls - my mother in law makes homemade ones and I am in LOVE with them. Curious to see how the ones here stack up.
The beer selection was competitive with other places in the area.
I feel like this review sounds harsh, but it really wasn't bad. I think I went into this place expecting to LOVE LOVE LOVE it, but I only liked it.
I liked most everything about this place, but there were a few things I didn't care for. Â The place is small but in a wood-filled, cozy cuddly way. Â Very relaxing environment. Â We started with an order of the pretzel bread with homemade butter which was tantalizing (I love pretzels and butter). Â
I had the Dragon Burger, which had some great elements to it but it didn't quite add up; it didn't have the spice or zing to it I had hoped for. Â Also, I asked for it medium and it came out nearly rare/raw. Â By the time I realized the extent of how rare it was I'd already eaten several bites and didn't bother sending it back. Â But it was kinda gross and caused me to drop this rating by a full star. Â The 'chips', which are actually fries, were stupendous, however. Â
I definitely liked this place but it had some hangups. Â If it were closer to home I could see coming in here and giving it another go. Â If you're unsure about trying it, I would say definitely go check it out and see for yourself; it has a lot of positives going for it but a few hiccups in my case. Â They did play some awesome music, props for that.
Okay, I take my criticisms of George & the Dragon back. I am now part of the converted. My last few visits have been nothing short of perfect. The Dragon Burger is my new favorite burger in the Twin Cities and nothing is better than those battered green beans.
Since the majority of my issue with this restaurant was the service, I have to say that ownership and management has stepped up and their waitstaff has improved tenfold.
First restaurant I've been to since moving back to Minneapolis last week. Â Went there with a couple friends who lived near by. Â Great beer selection and great menu. Â Perfect combination of pub food, with a slight upscale restaurant twist. Â We started with the battered green beans with truffle aioli and the pretzel bread (at the bar) - simply awesome! Â For dinner, I had the Uncle Bryan burger (bacon, blue cheese and avocado)...great burger. Â I also heard their salmon was great as well. Â
Great service at the bar as well as the table (despite the restaurant being quite busy). Â Very good casual atmosphere that is perfect for grabbing a couple beers with the guys or date night - and prices are very reasonable. Â Would highly recommend and we will be coming back for sure!
My friend Joe has been wanting to come to George & The Dragon for the longest time. I balked in going, mainly because of the South Minneapolis location. After one evening of climbing and tired of our usual spots, I was like "Why not?" and we were off.
Do. Not. Regret. George and the Dragon is the perfect neighborhood spot and I wish it was in my little neighborhood of Marcy Holmes. Good beer selection, great food, and great service. I ended up here a few days after our initial foray too, because it was that pleasing.
It's a beer and wine only kind of place, but don't let that stop you. Lots of nitrogen beers on tap, which won my friends over. The food was excellent. My first time I had the daily curry, which was lamb meatballs. Normally I don't eat lamb but our waiter was excited about them. He was correct; they were tender and not gamy at all, with a delicious curry sauce. Bryan had the fish and chips, which he proclaimed the best in the city.
Upon my second visit we tried the fried calamari, sausage roll, and the Elizabeth salad (cheddar and apple). They were all delicious. The calamari was fresh and not frozen. Quite tender though the batter was a bit on the salty side. The sausage roll was pretty good, very rich so I only had a bite. The salad was great. It was exactly what I was looking for. It also had this delicious sprinkling of bread crumbs on it. It's a must.
Service was great both times. Everyone was so friendly and on top of things. They seemed to enjoy working there, which added to the atmosphere.
Can it be that good?
I am drinking the Kool-Aid
French fries on steroids
This was on my Yelp to-do list. Â Once again, I was steered in the right direction.
The bartender, who goes by "Mr. Miller", was friendly and provided several good suggestions. Â Recommended that I try the seasonal Bell's Christmas Ale. Â I love Bell's beer, but had never had this one. Â Very tasty -caramel and brown sugar flavor. Â They don't have a ton of beers on tap, but the ones that they do are all good ones.
Ordered the Dragon Burger which says it comes with chips. Â Noticed a couple guys next to me sharing a plate of french fries and thought I should have got the burger with fries instead of chips because those fries look gigantically awesome! Â Little did I know that when they say chips they mean it in the British fashion. Â Burger came with the fries (chips).
Menu describes the Dragon Burger as "pepper jack, chipotle mayo, pickled peppers". Â It does not say tomato, but that was an easy problem to solve. Â I think it is my new favorite burger in the Cities - like it better than Vincent's, better than Matt's, etc, etc. Â Not spicy at all for me, but amazing combination of flavors and cooked to perfection.
Mr. Miller then asked if I wanted some creme brulee or other dessert. Â Told him maybe, let me think about it. Â Said that if I want something other than the creme brulee to ask him because the dessert menu is in his head. Â Decided what the heck and ordered the creme brulee a couple minutes later which came out quickly. Â I am not a creme brulee connoisseur, but I have to say that it was really good. Â Best I have ever had out of maybe two or three others in my life.
As Arnold says, " I will be back". Â Can't wait to try some of the other items off of the menu.
Woooo, that was good eatin'!
Just got back from dinner with good conversation, good service and GREAT food. Â Seriously, everything we ordered was amazing without being over the top or expected. Â What a great surprise.
The starters: pretzel bread, where have you been all my life? Â Light and not too salty; with a little butter on top it was heavenly. Â Cold asparagus with wasabi aioli was fantastic and I don't even like the taste of horseradish. Â It comes off as spicy and kicky, not overly heavy on the wasabi.
I had the steak salad which was tasty and the one onion ring perched on top made it sexy. Â Sexy? Â Is that the right word when we're talking about fried vegetables? Â YES. Â The light dusting of breadcrumbs on top and the dried cranberries (which I don't even like and forgot to ask them to omit) were perfect.
I wish I had room for dessert as I bet the gingersnap cookies would have been great. Â I wasn't too pleased with the wine list, but this is a beer-centric pub so I should probably just STFU about that.
Thanks to our waitress for the perfect amount of service. Â She was available to answer our questions and made sure the drinks were refilled quickly and our food brought out in good cadence. Â But she wasn't hovering or interrupting conversations. Â It was perfect service for a really nice night.
Went to G&TD for the second time Saturday night. Â I had the Banh Mi sandwich--a wonderful combination of spiced pork, cabbage and green beans--unusual and delicious. Â My wife had the curry of the day--a Thai influenced seafood curry w/ a hint of coconut milk and a bit of heat to it. Â Both were well prepared and beautifully presented.
Tried a couple of beers that were great--a locally brewed Harriet Brewing Divine Oculust and a Tyranena Rocky's Revenge Brown Ale.
What really made our experience great was the way we were treated. We hadn't planned too well, showing up w/o a reservation. Â The wait was estimated at 90+ minutes. Â The manager was suggested we might try hanging out by the bar (first come-first served) to see if chairs opened up there. Â He then went over and cleared a small space for us and then checked in periodically to advise when it looked like other patrons might be leaving. Â We ultimately scored some seats about 30 minutes later--very helpful. Â The bartender "Mr. Miller" is really personable, offering some great beer suggestions and handling the robust crowd without breaking a sweat. Â We'll be back soon!
I went here on a Friday night on my recent visit to Minneapolis and the place was packed to the gills. Â Knowing it's a new restaurant, I was pretty shocked that it was actually that busy, but when after finishing my meal, I was a convert.
Our table split the fried green bean appetizer with truffle aioli, which I wasn't going to eat that much of, but kept grabbing for (it didn't last long). Â I had the Victoria salad (and I just noticed that all of the salads are named after English queens, which is possibly the cutest thing ever). Â Seriously, I feel like a bit of an asshole gushing about a salad, but my god, I still think about Victoria sometimes, and I YEARN. Â It was one of the best salads I've ever had, and I'm going to figure out a way to make it at home since I can't afford to fly back to G&D several times a week.
My dining companions ordered macaroni and cheese and the classic burger. Conversation died as we tucked into our delicious dinners, and I don't think anyone didn't clean his or her plate.
They have a solid beer list, our server was attentive but not annoying, and they have warm towels in the bathroom. Â At first I thought it was a little weird that they had a basket of what looked like wash clothes rolled up in the bathroom, but now it seems like the best idea ever. Â Saves the restaurant money on paper towels; saves the planet a little and saves me from using one of those awful blowers that never get your hands dry.
I could make a ridiculous pun about George slaying me, but I won't. Just go there. Go there because I want to, but I live in Rhode Island.
