that food is really good, and it's cheap. Â i got curry chicken on rice, and it was just really good, and under five dollars. Â and this big, big portion, with a green curry sauce that wasn't bitter at all. it was like a full dinner. Â the egg rolls were good, but best of all were the little spare ribs, which were bbq, and they were just really, really, REALLY tasty, and under six dollars for the small order. Â that is some really good food, and i wish i'd gotten more of the bbq...
Review Source:First the place is really clean. The Staff are friendly and maybe a little strange.
I came in on Feb 6th, 2012 a bit after 1PM. The place was empty but they had a menu in the window. I based my choisce on that! I just want to know they have something I like before I go in. Â I saw BBQ Duck!
First, lose the idea if grilled duck. Maybe BBQ Duck in a Chinese Restaurant can be grilled, but it always seemsd more baked. BBQ, I think describes the spice mix. I LOVE BBQ  Duck!
They do the best BBQ Duck I have had since I moved from San Francisco. Be prepared to eat it off the bones with your fingers... yes you get a fork but no knife. I aught to carry on ein my bag!  Very succulent and not at all dried out.. oh so juicy!
I had this with egg rolls which I suspect are home made, and not delivered frozen, very tastey! I never know what to order with BBQ Duck... I had a medium size which is half a duck... so I got Ginger and Scallion Lo Mein. It was a god choice. Very yummy noodles with a bit of bok choy, ginger and green onion. When the duck is nearly done, the noodles dipped in teh duck juices.. is just phenomenal.
I suspect I am eating this wrong. I suspect I aught to be eatingf it on a pancake with sopme green onion and ginger.... but this really wotked!
They gave me a bowl of chicken broth that was really good.
Okay. the staff all seeemed to be having lunch and weer sitting and talking and I seriously like that. I do not want a waiter hovering at my table and bothering me while I chew.... I never felt rushed or ignored! I am certain that if I waived my hand I could hae sidnaled someone. It is really nice to see the staff eat in the restaurant!
My friends and I wandered into this place after the Chinese New Year Parade. Â We were cold, hungry, and ready to eat.
I scanned their extensive menu and decided that I would go with something hot and hearty - the shrimp wonton and bbq pork with noodle soup. Â My friends ordered similar items plus eggrolls and a noodle dish.
My entree was good - a generous portion of bbq pork, shrimp wonton, and long crazy asian noodles in a tasty broth. Â This was not the best I've ever had, but it certainly hit the spot. Â My friends seemed to enjoy what they ordered - no complaints.
The only thing that was a bit disappointing was that we weren't served our entrees at the same time. Â If I had waited for everyone to get their food, my soup would have been cold and hypoglycemia would have set in. Â Service was otherwise OK considering there was a post-parade crowd.
I would come back to see what it's like a on a regular day and to sample the rest of the menu.
Went here on a Tuesday night, the place was totally empty but we decided to go anyway because of the great ratings on yelp....what a mistake!!! Worst Chinese food I have ever eaten, hands down. I ordered shrimp dumplings with noodle soup and received pork. They were disgusting and dumpling shells were so soggy they fell apart. The noodles made me wish I was eating ramen at home. Would not do again!
Review Source:I talked my family into Great Taste for their delicious and affordable Peking Duck for a birthday dinner - a regrettable decision. We ended up arriving at 8:30pm and, not only was it was empty, half of what we tried to order was not available. Sorry, no more duck. Uh .. we don't have any of these vegetables. No - that chicken's gone too. Â Our "clean" forks on the table had dried rice in between the prongs. We ended up choosing some dishes that were a-okay, but none of which I would have chosen in the first place. Service was okay - at first. After the dishes came out, all the staff disappeared except for one lady who was mopping the floors, whom we had to flag down to get our receipt.
Review Source:Came here for dinner and ordered off the Chinese-only menu.  The  small stir-fry dishes were only 5.95-6.95 each.  We ordered 1) stir-fried gai-lan with garlic, 2) beef tendon and turnip pot, 3) Peking style pork chop, 4) oyster and roast pork pot, 5) stir-fried XO pig stomach, and 6) stir-fried you choy with oyster sauce.  I'd order them all again, except for the oyster pot; as expected, there was way too much roast pork - which was mostly dry - and too few and small oysters.  Everything else was great.  The dishes aren't huge, but you can't expect a ton given the prices. Â
Other notes:
-Complimentary rice with meal
-Kind of an off location given how far away it is from Chinatown Square
-Newly furnished and decorated
-Very few patrons
-Didn't have a lot to choose from on the menu, and even some of the options weren't available that day. Â
-The BBQ take-out was very busy and looked delish.
Great Taste House is what it says, and I'm excited to write the first review on Yelp for it!
We came in around noon on Feb 14th - an hour before the Lunar New Year parade kicked off. Â Even though the streets were packed with people, we were seated right away and were brought a large hot pot of very good tea, which was great as it was very cold outside.
The menu is huge - everything you could possibly want to eat in a Chinese restaurant, and even things you hadn't thought of eating. Â The prices are excellent - appetizers around (many under) $5, same for soups and noodle/rice dishes. Â Meat and seafood dishes averaged around $10 - $12, some more some less. Â
The prices were misleading, honestly, because since they were so low we figured the portions would also be smaller as well. Â NOT THE CASE AT ALL. Â We got 6 potstickers (around $4 for 6), each about the size of a fist and full of juicy, delicious pork filling. Â The dough is a little thick, but its still very tasty. Â They were huge. Â
We also got 2 soups - he a shrimp wonton with wide noodle, and me a fishball with thin rice noodle. Â Each soup was a little over $4 but came in an enormous steaming bowl heaped with fresh noodles, a delicious chickeny broth, and tender vegetables. Â
This would have been plenty of food for two people, probably would have even resulted in leftovers, but again, the prices were so low that when we were ordering we kind of went a little nuts and ordered a medium-sized BBQ duck. Â I had no idea what "medium" meant (as opposed to the small or large options on the menu), but a medium BBQ duck was a few cents over $8. Â I figured that since duck is a more premium meat we'd have a few pieces to share but it wouldn't be too much. Â WRONG AGAIN. Â The duck plate came out hot, piled high with extremely tender, delicious, and savory soft pieces of duck breast and thigh meat, with crispy skin and chewy duck fat intact (the best part of the duck!) Â My only complaint with the duck was that there were bone pieces attached to the meat slices, making it a little difficult to maneuver between the chopsticks and my mouth, but I solved that by just putting down the chopsticks and eating with my hands like a heathen. Â Whatever works.
It was way too much food for two people, but we are not complaining, as we both have at least an entire meal leftover between the duck and remaining soup. Â Maybe a meal and a half. Â It was a lot of duck and soup. Â The bill for 2 people to get 6 potstickers (again, fist-sized and full of pork), 2 huge bowls of soup, and 1 "medium" BBQ duck was $23. Â Awesome!
The service was harried but friendly, which was absolutely fine considering that the restaurant was quickly packed with parade-going patrons. Â This must be one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants in Chinatown, and Great Taste House delivered excellent food and friendly, swift service despite the hectic environment. Â We will definitely go back. Â Gung hay fat choi!
