the Greeks has been in business for over 90 years. What a change this Restaurant has made from years ago. They totally change to a craft beer bar with a selection that I have not seen any where else on the main line. Travel through the area monthly and just made The Greeks my permanent stop. Food is good with the largest menu I have ever seen in a bar.

It is unclear to me how the Greeks stays open with McShea's across the way, but I guess when it comes to local watering holes, people develop their own loyalties.  I can't really speak to the issue of which place is more fun to drink at.  So this review is just for how it rates as a place to eat.

The food that we ordered ranged from mediocre to bad. Rubberband-like calamari in a thick, tasteless, heavy batter.  Dry hamburgers. Oily, tasteless fries. The greek salad was not too bad, although could have stood a another ounce or two of feta.  Grilled chicken sandwich with a slab of chicken that was over an inch thick, tough and cooked barely past the pink point, with wilted lettuce and a slice of mealy tomato.

The service was friendly but quite incompetent. Wrong beer was brought. Wrong food was brought. Beverages were ordered and forgotten. No salad dressing brought. Etc. Waitresses were nice enough about making good, and very understanding when one of my kids spilled a drink, however.

I tried it out because someone told me the food is actually good.  Since I had once greatly underestimated McShea's, I thought maybe I would discover another little Narberth treasure.  Alas not. We will not be back to eat there.

If you go, when you go to the bathroom, do yourself a favor and do not look at the kitchen beyond that hallway, because you might throw up when you realize that your food is being prepared in there.

Of the beer selection, I was surprised to find that the excellent choices of beers at the Greeks Next Door appears not to be available in the restaurant or at least is not included on the beer list. Odd.

It may be a great place to hang out and drink, however. I really don't know.

I've patronized the Greeks for a while now, as their typical pub food is not too bad and the staff are pretty friendly.  They are pretty friendly until they show their true colors, though.  Last week my colleague and I went in there for lunch hoping to catch Obama's second inaugural.  It was just before noon and we sat at the bar, intending to order lunch and a drink, and I asked the bar tender to put the inaugural on.  The vehemence of the response actually surprised us, "I'm not putting that crap on!"

Certainly saw the flip side of local charm that day!  We went across the street as we got the additional message that we weren't welcome there.

This is a drinks and server review-- I'll be going back soon, so I will hopefully be able to comment on the food shortly.

For drinks-- a good and varied selection of mainstream brewers and locals. They have multiple Victory brews on tap, for instance. The prices are decent and they do have some specials, so that helps me out. I ordered a Dark Horse Raspberry Tripel ($5.50, which was way cheaper than I expected) and the flavor was like a Tripel Karmeliet, but with an extremely light hint of raspberry. It was pretty good. My companion ordered a Creme Brulee Stout, which tasted like a stout but with a huge punch and smell of caramel. That was fantastic. They didn't actually have it on tap, but instead had to go to their beer shop (it's connected to the bar! Woo!) and pour it there. It's very cool that they have access to so many extra brews that way, but when you order a beer from the beer store, there is an automatic $2 surcharge added (luckily, it's cheap).

But the real reason I am giving this place five stars is the service. My companion and I were a good ten to fifteen years younger than everyone else, but the bartender made a concentrated effort to learn our names and treated us like the local regulars, which was really cool. That's not even the best part-- we tried to order food, but the kitchen had literally just closed. Now, I was willing to forget about it (since it was my mistake we ordered so late), but the bartender took pity on us and asked us if we wanted some Saltines. I said "sure, why not?" (some carbs can go a long way) and he came back with a HUGE plate of potato chips and Saltines, free of charge. Really above and beyond.

Now, this place was pretty dead until like 12:30, when a few crowds of people arrived, but you can tell they're all locals. My companion and I got business cards from these two guys at the bar because we had a fantastic discussion with them about Yes and the Grateful Dead and the 70's/80's in general. Coolest and most absurd encounter at a bar-- ever.

This is a great place.  Not only does the menu change regularly and the owner, Drew, wants to know what you thought of the new item.  I love this place.  It is inexpensive, the service is great, the food is good, and it is a place where they get to know you as a regular.  They have added a store where you can get specialty beers and hard cider.  They have everything there.  This is a solid restaurant/bar that I would put up against most any other place for the food and service.

This place is the real deal. It's been here forever, and it blends old school charm with an honest-to-goodness good time. Plus, they have a new six pack shop opening next-door this month--very cool!

If you're visiting the area or are a local who has (somehow) missed this spot, you've got to check it out. The Greeks is classic for a reason.

My favorite place in Narberth,  The owner Drew greets everyone like a good friend, the food is above average, their beer selection is about to go from good to GREAT when they expand next door in late September.  Every character out of a bar can be found here.

I used to live in Narberth & only visited the Greeks a handful of times & found it to be just fine...a neighborhood bar with decent food & a very limited wine & beer selection....not really even worth commenting on. But this last experience was. We Sat outside with our dog after a run, looking forward to an early happy hour they had advertised on a chalk board from 430-630. The bartender came out, tossed some menus in front of me & asked me what I wanted. "What are your happy hour specials?" I ask. His answer came as my husband emerged from inside, "ooh, we don't have any." My confused retort, "Isn't there a sign behind you that says 'happy hour'?" Bartender: "Oh yeah, we just throw some food on the bar & that's our HH...." Not even sure what that's supposed to mean. He then asks us again what we want.  Still confused as to why there's a sign for happy hour, but no I happy hour, I say, "I don't know what you have" (as there is no beer or wine list in front of me)...."We have everything." (is this guy drunk?) My response, "I seriously doubt that sir. What wines do you have?" Blah, blah, blah, "...fine, chardonnay." My husband, "What beers do you have?" Bartender's response, "What do you like?" (are you as exhausted reading this as I am typing it? Multiply that times 5 & that's how the actual experience felt.) Husband, annoyed, "uh, Belgians." Bartender: "We have Leff", (a blonde, not a Belgian...) After reluctantly reciting the draught list, my hubby settled on a beer that he doesn't really like, just to pick something & get this guy back inside. My guess is, he was drinking with the boys inside & thought he was begin amusing, but it was one of the most painful interactions at a bar I've had in my adulthood. We decided we weren't gonna eat there after that & couldn't wait to find out what our drinks cost. $11.50. That's what we left on the table, & that'll be the last time we go back. The Pub a half block away has better food & beer selection, outdoor seating, & (get this) service that doesn't make you feel like an intruder as a paying customer. There are too many places that do it right to return someplace that before.

Ended up at The Greeks one night for celebratory drinks.
My friend ordered an AMF ("an A-M-WHAT?!") and the bar keep was nice enough to look it up on her phone and whip up the order.

The bar itself: typical local watering hole...
    The AMF: Whoa.
What is an AMF?  LOOK IT UP.  You won't regret it!

I just realized I needed to upgrade my review because the Greeks has suddenly become upgraded with all kinds of poser beers - which is what we bud light drinkers call triple-hopped-belgian/brewed-local/craft beer of various assortments. The Greeks is now the center of the universe for beer geeks of all types ... and that turns out to be a good thing. A whole new tap system for the fancy beer has increased the quality of my Bud Light!!

Spoiler Alert: Don't be one of the PANSIES that gripes about how expensive the up-charge is for bringing fancy bottles from the bottle shop next door into the bar. Even with the up-charge, the beer is still cheaper than most places on the main line ... or anywhere else. The reason the service is so good is that the bartenders and waitresses actually want you to try new stuff.

Same great place, relaxed atmosphere, and if the bartenders make fun of you, it means you have just become a regular.

Great neighborhood bar. It's never too crowded, the food is always tasty and well priced (I love the fish & chips!), and they always have a large selection of beers to choose from (or spirits, if that's your pleasure). The staff has always been friendly, and there are always a couple of regulars in there no matter what time of day.
It's a great place to go when you want good food and a drink, but don't want to deal with obnoxious bar crowds.

Great place for lunch.  Very good menu for what you pay.  Friendly workaday crowd.  Solid bartenders.  I go here about 1 time a week.

I may be biased in my review ... this is my favorite bar in my hood.

They have a solid collection of beers on tap. The wings are perfect every time. You'll really miss out if you don't try the ribs or the mussels.

This is a laid back place. The inside hasn't changed for probably 20 years but that is the charm. The staff is great! Come in a couple of times and you'll have new friends.

I got exactly what I expected from the place. Good bar food, good beer, and that little machine you can dump quarters into and play trivia games if your date is late. I'd go back.

The Greeks is the quintessential local hangout.  On any afternoon or evening, the Greeks is sure to have its regulars seated around the bar enjoying a cold brew.  It's a no frills drinker's bar.  It doesn't have the best pub food in Narberth or the best beer selection out of the local watering holes, but this place has authentic local atmosphere.  They also serve a mean roasted pig during the Narberth fall and spring music festivals, during which they sell beer out of their front window to the fest-goers.  Honestly, what's not to love?

The Greeks is a neighborhood Narberth bar.  Cheap drinks and food (and a lunch plan with every 9th lunch free (up to $6.00 - average price.)

This is a good place to be a regular.
