Have waited over 45 minutes for our meal on a random Tuesday night! Kids eating free is great but only about a third of the restaurant is full and that long of a wait is just not acceptable! Food came out and was cold and my daughter found a long black hair in her macaroni and cheese! Not an enjoyable experience whatsoever!
Review Source:This place is okay.....not amazing but groups well with Ruby Tuesday, TGIFridays and Cheesecake Factory. Chain restaurants that are good for groups and families and offer greasy but still good food. Nothing gourmet or impressive but satisfying enough. Each booth has a tv so kids and husbands can easily be entertained and quiet. I had Thai tacos the last time I went and was pretty grossed out. It is pulled pork, same that they use for the BBQ sammie with generic thai style sweet pepper sauce drizzled on top. Gross. They should have a thai marinated pork, not the dry crap they use and the sauce needs to be tangier. I really wanted to like them because it is a great idea....boooo! Otherwise I have had burgers and salads and fish n' chips and been pleased.
Review Source:I purposely try to avoid sports bars if they are part of a chain because of the cheap processed food that's generally served at these establishments. The Greene Turtle was a little better than most but not by too much.
I have to admit the inside was larger than I expected and quite roomy. Allowing for decent privacy for the business lunch I was there for but the dark colored decor made it look a little grungy to me despite it being clean, including the bathrooms. Unfortunately that's where the positives end.
Drinks: Our server wasn't aware of the brands of liquors being served and after him running back and forth to let me know they didn't have the ingredients to make my drink I settled on the same bottled beer as my companion was having and a water.
Meal: I tried to avoid the greasy fries or another fried appetizer but I couldn't help myself and ordered the Pickle Chips (Fried Pickles), which were airly good. For lunch I ordered the Spicy Jack Stuffed Burger. The burger itself was good but jalapenos tasted as if they came out of a can labeled MILD that you could find on the supermarket isle.
Overall it wasn't a bad experience. The server was trying to be helpful but needed more experience. The food was better than expected but still a 2 star. The place was clean but overall I won't being going back unless I have to catch a sporting event or someone else wants to meet there and isn't interested in other choices so I give it 2 Stars.
So disappointed in what could be a great sports bar! My boyfriend and I live right by this place and were hoping to find a good bar to watch sports with good food and drinks. We loved the look when we first walked in, TVs in the booths, double points! They have a pretty big menu, I ended up going with the fish tacos and my boyfriend the fish and chips. What started out great went downhill quickly, the fish and fries were both obviously frozen, and they did nothing to 'doctor' it up, so it tasted more like $12 fish sticks than fish and chips! My fish in the fish tacos was so bland and tasteless I had to make sure there was actually fish in there! We were both so disappointed with our meals that I doubt we will ever be back. So much potential, this just fell way short.
Review Source:You can't really complain about $5.99 lunch specials. I visited this place for a business networking lunch. I know it's a chain... It's also located in the mall. That's not real appealing to me because of bratty ass kids running around. For the parent stuck in the mall this place serves well as an outlet to watch reruns of Sportscenter while drinking a beer while your spouse or significant other or boo or boo boo or mistress or what not is shopping away.
They do have a private room but even still it can be loud.
I tried this place because of the location and did not have high expectations due to the fact it is a chain in a mall. It was great. I have been twice now and had great service. Great things include:
1. Have local beer on tap! It's only $3.50 on Wednesdays and that's the cheapest I have found O'Connor beer.
2. Food was decent. Had the blackened shrimp app and that was excellent. Fish tacos were decent.
3. No creepy guys!! Rarely do you find a bar without a creeper sitting at the bar trying to talk to you. :) I was delighted.
4. Great bartenders.
Overall, if you are looking for a place in Greenbrier to watch the game give it a try.
Chain Sports Bar on the East Coast, Maryland / VA area.
I enjoy the fact that they have tvs in the booths, so you can watch your game or event without breaking your neck.
They also show boxing and UFC.
Great place for a quick bite, I love they wings and the burgers. Typical sports bar type menu except they throw in some Maryland favorites and you can get crab on just about everything.
The only thing that annoys me is that during the football season, they focus WAY TOO MUCH on the local teams like Redskins and Ravens. If those games are on regular TV and people can watch them at home, there is no reason to put them on every single TV in the place. Show some other games, so those of us who cannot see their game on TV will come there and watch.
I avoid there on football sundays because I know even though they have the Sunday ticket, I will not get to see my game clearly
Meeting a friend for some dinner before hitting Jillian's to kill zombies and play Skeeball, we wandered the mall looking for something that wasn't in the food court. The Greene Turtle was the (only) choice.
I didn't have very high expectations, it being a chain in a mall. They were pretty well exceeded. We sat at the bar, where the bored bartender and one of the waitresses took good care of us. Some different choices for beers, I ended up with a local draft while my friend had a mass-produced bottled beer. Â We had just missed the end of happy hour, which tonight was a margarita special.
For my main, I had the "mac & cheese with crab meat". Served insanely hot, I picked at the side salad while it cooled off enough to not melt my fork. And by that time, I was pretty hungry. That might have caused it to taste better than it ordinarily might, but I don't think so. The pasta was the right amount of al dente, the cheese was the right amount of gooey and the crab added just the right bite of flavor. Excellent and I was a little sad when it was all gone.
We skipped dessert, but if I'm here again I might try one.
We went here for lunch today and it was OK. Â It was not busy at all. Â Our server was friendly and attentive. Â It just took a while for us to get our bill. Â We had our kids with us and were seated in a large booth with a TV, so that was convenient for keeping the kids occupied while we waited for our food. Â
The sweet tea was nice and sweet, just the way it should be. Â The bar offers some local brews and hard cider. Â We had the buffalo chicken dip for our appetizer. Â It is served with warm flat bread wedges, topped with bleu cheese and not at all spicy. Â It was good, but I will try something else next time if I return. Â I had the raspberry turkey flatbread. Â It was good, but very peppery. Â My husband had the Chesapeake burger, which is a burger topped with crab dip. Â He got it for the sake of trying something different and didn't really care for it. Â Burgers and sandwiches are served with chips. Â There's an upcharge for fries, which is silly. Â I did like that the kids meals come with apple slices. Â If I go back here it will probably only be on a Tuesday to take advantage of the kids eat free special.
For being one of the few sports bars around the area, it's not bad of a place. It has more than enough TVs on the walls, decent food and service. I believe there is free wireless as well. Our waiter was a funny fello, he suggested the soup of the day but neither him nor anyone outside of the kitchen knew what the soup is. Happy Hour list was limited, and it's about $1 or so off the original price. It's in the mall so it's at least convinient.
Review Source:I went here for a few drinks with some coworkers last week after work.
"The Good"
- The company was good. Most were happy to be out of work and some... well, some cannot let go.
- Beer was cold, although there were no specials to speak of.
- The pretzel stick appetizer is really good. They have a dipping sauce that is for another dish that the server recommended that made them very good.
- TVs are everywhere and most tables have the speaker where you can pick your TV.
"The Meh"
- Nothing really going on here as it was pretty much dead on a Thursday night.
"The Bad"
- The potential to be something very cool is here it is just not willing to set itself apart. It is one of those things where it has peaked and they are happy where they are.
I've never seen this place really packed, which can be a good thing, if you're REALLY hungry and just want to watch a game in peace. I went on a Football Sunday, had the Turkey Flatbread, which was pretty good actually. Typical Sports Bar menu, nada fancy. Not what I would consider a date spot, the Green Turtle in Hampton seemed a little more "LIVE".
Review Source:Stopped in for lunch after deciding to try the new place in town. The Green Turtle has just recently opened up inside of The Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake. I was impressed with the way the place looked, but I think that's where it might end for me. The server was right on the verge of being rude, not quite there, but very close. I'm also noticing a trend in restaurants lately - they are just packing way too many options on the menu - I don't need 20 pages of menu, in fact it stresses me OUT. So please keep your menu to a couple of pages with a few different food varieties (any place that serves Chinese food and cheeseburgers is going to weird me out a little). The price point was pretty average, around $8-10 bucks.
My friend and I both chose the cheeseburger sliders which were pretty mediocre, they were a little heavy and greasy. I don't think I'll return here again.
My co-worker and I just had an outstanding lunch here this afternoon.
The first thing you will notice when you enter is that the mall unit the restaurant is in has been completely renovated. The entire layout has changed from the place that used to be here. Upon entering there is a large bar on the right, and a even larger dining room on the left stretching towards the center of the mall. It's very well lit and has TV sets just about everywhere so you can watch multiple sporting events at once.
There wasn't a large crowd today and the hostess seated us immediately. We were a little rushed and let our server 'Beth' know that upon her arrival. "No problem at all" she said. We proceeded to order our food and drinks at the same time and off she went.
I had a Bacon Cheeseburger medium well, not much I can say to describe that. My co-worker had their burger called The Chesapeake. It's covered in crab dip, bacon and your choice of a cheese.
Both burgers were large in fact, they were huge, served with a toasted bun and cooked to perfection. I can't say enough, they were very filling. Each had a side of very good French Fries.
Again I can't say enough about the service. It was outstanding. I'm looking forward to stopping by after work one evening soon to have a few brews. Check them out, they're right on the front of the mall facing Greenbrier Parkway.
I was ecstatic to find a new Sports Bar was heading to HR. Â I lived in the DC Metro area for a while and had fond memories of the Green Turtle, a bar and grille that can be found all over the NO.VA, DC, MD area.
The restaurant side had a full house, but we were there for the 'Sports Bar' experience. Â That's the Helter and Skelter of it all - the restaurant side resembled a TGIFs or Applebees while the bar side was DOA. An omen of what was to come.
After sitting in the bar area for 10 mins, the host had to locate our server. Â The service started out and ended up not as attentive as we would have hoped.
We finally got our orders in - a couple of 22 oz. drafts, soft pretzels with cheese sauce, and wings - Kinda Hot and Maryland with celery and dressing. Â
The pretzels were only OK. Â Had the canned Mexican Queso sauce warmed; wouldn't order it again.
The wings were a huge disappointment.  First of all, we ended up with Mild instead of the Maryland wings; a mistake that was corrected after the host just happened to stop by for a chat.  The waitress didn't notice her mistake, but remembered we ordered Maryland wings after the host told her.  We ended up with  24 wings in all. SCORE? Not really.
The Green Turtle serves puny wings. Â The drummettes looked like they were plucked from song birds. Â The middle sections were standard. Â There are only about 6 sauces; two of those are BBQ and three are buffalo with increasing heat. Weak. Â The Maryland was supposed to be the one that stood out. Â That was not the case.
The Maryland's came out last thanks to the host. Â Yes, they were comped. The wings were pale with the lightest dusting of Old Bay Seasoning - that's the Maryland in 'Maryland wings' by the way. Â The wings had no flavor, just chicken with salt and pepper it seemed. Â
The host came by again, the most attentive person in the whole bar, he gets a 10, and asked for our honest opinion. Â I'm a foodie and have worked in restaurants before. Â I told him my true feelings about how the wings needed marinating at least in a salt/sugar brine and some more attention. Â He understood but said this location was a franchise and couldn't make those sort of changes to the menu or how the food is prepared. Â I understand that, honestly.
We waited another 10 minutes to get the check; she was the fifth person to service us. Â Who do we pay the tip to by the way? Â Yes, the service was not as attentive as it should be.
The Green Turtle is a family restaurant with a casual dining atmosphere. Â The dozens of TVs make you think it's a sports bar; don't be fooled, it's not. Â
This is the four or fifth restaurant in that space at Greenbrier Mall. Â Ruby Tuesday's, The Mozzarella Cafe, and a few others all came and went. Â Is the Green Turtle the next to go?
