I'll start this off by saying I'm definitely not their average customer. I'm 32 years old and I don't have any facial hair. A few friends and I discovered this place while looking for a place to grab some food and beers after a round of golf at the course up the street. Not being from the area, we checked yelp and this place had good reviews so in we walk. This place definitely caters to the hipster crowd which is fine. I've never been threatened by a hipster like I have by a bro so I'll take it.

Anyway, they have a good selection of craft beers. They also had some pretty good whiskey but it was a bit overpriced. I'm used to dive bars in Long Beach where you rarely pay more than $7 for a drink. That being said, they do have some good booze available and the food is really good. Both times I was here I had some sort of chicken sandwich and it was memorable enough for me to want to write a review about it. Unfortunately, it has been over 6 months since I had it and I don't really remember much about it anymore. My friends both had burgers and were very happy with them. It was good enough that we went back next time we played that golf course over by Griffith Park.

It used to be my go-to alternative to my regular dive bar "The Roost"-- but something happened and seemingly overnight it turned all Westwood/Hollywood.  They turn up the music way to loud, even during the week, so it's almost impossible to carry on a conversation with one friend-- much less a group.

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, and when I heard that there was a bar with a Hogwarts ambience type feel, I had to go! It definitely was the closest thing to Hogwarts I have ever experienced, until I go to Universal Studios of course. My boyfriend and I stayed for a couple of drinks, I ordered the Moscow Mule, and he ordered an IPA. Not entirely sure how the rest of the other drinks are at this place, but the Moscow Mule wasn't too great, definitely had better. Unfortunately, the service at this place isn't majestic as the ambiance. Everyone that worked at The Griffin just seemed like they didn't want to encounter with any of the guests, especially the bartenders. It was like they already had their own little clique and didn't really want to be there. Sigh this place definitely needs a magical spell to uplift their spirits. Wingardium Leviosa!

This is now my favorite bar, it has such a cosy atmosphere ! the lighting is just perfect and you can pick your own music in the jukebox. If you love beer like I do you will find some very good local drafts, I like to try different types of beer all the time. Some tables have fire pits which is so awesome and if you are on date there are a couple of make out spots !! Enjoy..

Love this place. I eat here at least once a week, and I swear it's court ordered ;)

Happy hour is from M-F 5-7pm. There is also a wed wing special that you can get the happy hour deal of 5 wings and beer for $5 all day.  It's pretty good wings. Been trying a different dish off the regular menu each time I've come. Haven't had a bad one yet

Dessert. is freaking good. Do not leave without ordering a dessert. My favor is the peanut butter chocolate pie with peanut butter whip cream, but it looks like they may have taken it off the menu last week. Both bartenders recommend the goat cheesecake instead and that was also incredible.

Really fun beer and drink  selection.  The mystery shot is $4 if you want to take your chances.

Service: Is great and all the bartenders I've had were great. They have very well trained staff for a bar.

Parking: Street parking is limited but if you are willing to walk, you can get parking. It might just take a few tries and some walking. Make sure you read the signs before you leave your near a parking meter cause some of the meters are 30 mins and hour until midnight.

Overall: The food is excellent, the desserts are amazing, and the kitchen is open till midnight on the weekday. You can get amazing food late at night in a bar with great people. How wickedly cool is that?

I have been wanting to check this place out since I found out about it. Its a small little bar/lounge on Los Feliz in the middle of Glendale. The ambiance is great! For sure going to come back again with a group a girlfriends for drinks and appetizers. On a first time basis I loved the old rustic Harry Potter type interior.

This place is dope.  Wednesday night is where it's at; they have five wings and a beer for five bucks.  The wings are actually pretty good.  The crowd is pretty chill, some cute girls.  Check this place out for sure.  Easy to get to, just off the 5.

Love this place for dates, especially first dates.  It's chill, low key, not usually crowded or loud.

Love the venue with great outdoor patio area, music box, and fireplace but the drinks.... no..... :[ Unless you order beer, ordering drinks could be a risky business at the Griffins. I ordered one of my fav drink, Moscow Mule and what I got? Actually, I'm not entirely sure what it was but it was definitely NOT Moscow Mule.  Made another attempt this time with easier and more popular drink, Cape Cod (Vodka and Cranberry Juice) and, again, nay...

I would still go back because I love the venue and all but as for the drinks, guess I'm gonna have to stick with beer for now. Hopefully, they will get a decent bartender in the house soon and I could go back to ordering my fancy drinks!

Awesome place! Everyone is right, it's like a lair in Harry potter. But that just adds to its ambiance.
Went for just drinks and apps, and everything was good. Awesome beer selection with some of the choices being very rare.
Apps were very good, I'm sure the food is as well.

I came here for happy hour with my co workers.
As soon as i walked in i knew i would love this place.

The Griffin is very dark, mysterious and chill with a jukebox playing great music. They have 3 fire pits/fireplaces. We sat at one of them.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have any alcohol so i wont be judging the drinks although the people i was with did say they were strong so that's always a good thing.

I did have food though. I tried the BLT with fried egg and tater tots. The tater tots were OK nothing too exciting. The BLT was so good. This is something I would recommend. The bread has some sort of sauce toasted on to it.I don't know what sauce my guess is pesto. It was really great. I also had a bite of my co workers slider and that was also really good.

I will definitely be coming back for more happy hours at the Griffin.

I have a thing for finding the best mac and cheese and *drumroll please* this is it!  The bacon is just thick enough, the cheese is creamy and flavorful with just a little bit of crispy on the outsides.  I haven't tried any other food here, I just can't get enough of their mac.

The bar is a little slow, on occasion, primarily because they're so busy!  Cut them some slack, though, as once they get to you they give you a smile, are very friendly and give you their undivided attention.

The lounge area inside has great booths, decent music and not blaring so loudly you can't have a conversation.  The fireplaces add a nice, cozy touch.

The outside patio extends the same comforts you receive inside - soft seats or low tables.  Perfect for that after dinner smoke or drink relaxation.

Enjoy a comfortable experience here and some good conversation - and the BEST mac in town.

Was here for a friends birthday celebration.  It's a cool place to hang out.  It gets busy around 10p.  We were there at 8pm and took over the right side of place.  Midnight came around and we decided to leave...the scavengers ran to our seats as we were getting up one, by one it was funny.

Jack and Coke was my drink of choice that nite - my drink was nice strong. Mmmm

Tater Tots, Tater Tots!!! They are to DIE for!  That's all folks!

    Meh, I wasn't obsessed.

The inside does look like the Gryffindor common room though, so that's always nice.  The vibes are more relaxing than anything, so this would be a great place to come and grab a drink and have a conversation.  I'll probably do just that and come during happy hour because they seemed to have a pretty decent happy hour.

They also have strawberry fruli on tap and you NEVER see that anywhere, so that's really exciting.  Though it's also $11 per glass........and that's not exciting at all :(

Shitty bar. I've been there twice, and both times I've left disappointed. Watered down coke in my jack & coke? No thanks. The only thing good I've ever tried there is their strawberry beer or something of that sort. No cover. Parking sucks, as it's street parking only. I'll continue to avoid this place.

Griffin is your friendly cool neighborhood watering hole to have drinks that
taste good, experience some drunk times with friends and lay back.

Can't go wrong to grab some drinks here and not feel the unnecessary Hollywood hip and wanna be glamour.

The bars patrons are all laid back as well, that's the feel I got.

The Griffin holds a special place in my heart. Celebrated my 21st birthday there as well all my birthdays minus maybe one or two years. It's literally at the corner of my house so you can understand one of the main reasons why I love this bar. The other reasons why is simply all the memories I've shared here with different people over the years. No to get to the real pros and cons of the place.

Pros: Really stiff drinks/ location/ awesome patio for smokers/ for the most part, really nice bartenders/ crowd is usually cool, rarely any problems there/ really awesome food and the happy hour is money.

Cons: Can be a little pricey for some/ sort of limited selection in beer/ constant rotating of said beer selection.

This is my favorite bar and I look forward to spending much more time at my local bar.

So what do you need when you step up to a bar and go to place an order? A footrail obviously! This is perhaps the single most important aspect of a real bar. Do they have a footrail? The Griff sure does! So it is a real bar to me woo woo =)

Not only does it have that iconic conveyance for a real bar, they serve some decent drinks, have some reduced lighting, some tasty vittles, and an honest pour! I was here for a happy hour not too long ago and it was definitely a happy  enough time for me to have spent about 4-5 hours here before running off to another joint to go dancing with some friends for a while.

Pro Tip: Park down the street in the neighborhood for free parking.

If you cant find this place due to its being rather inconspicuous, look for the Tam O'Shanter prime rib joint which is directly across the street. The building is very nondescript and unassuming from the exterior. It is 2 stories as well.

Pro Tip #2: Do NOT wear any sports team regalia as they do not allow that inside.

They have a smoking area out on the patio for all the chain smokers and a large number of chairs, fireplaces, benches and tables set up around the interior to make a unique and comfortable environment. The atmosphere is conducive to having a good time with a small, medium, or large party. Heck, if you just want to go grab a drink solo, you can be easily accommodated for that as well.

Overall I really enjoyed this place. The food was pub food, the drinks were tasty, the environment superb, hell they even had decent service. So overall, you bet your bibby I am going back here when I get the chance!

Ahhhhhh the Griffin....much better when I was single and in my 20's but still a pretty chill place to go (just noticed someone else recently opened their review with "Ahhhhh the Griffin", F-it I ain't changing my review haha).

I came from work so I guess I was "dressed up" lol as I'm walking towards the bouncer I reach for my wallet but before I can pull it out he says "go right in sir"...how did he know I was the man? What am I saying it's pretty obviously why ;).

Anywho, I pass the fireplaces and navigate my way to the bar and meet my friend. I drank Firestone DBA's and Jim & gingers all night. Ordered a fried chicken sandwich on the recommendation of the bartender and opted for a side of tater tots...yes TATER TOTS!!!

Tots are tasty, sammy was solid, beer and drinks good and strong. Bill was steep (paid for 3 rounds with my buddy) plus my food and other drinks so around $80-$90 w/ tip but had a great chat in a cool environment...I will say that with me being a "sir" now lol I kinda felt a bit like an oddball here... oh well cheers Griffin!

Oh Griffin, you are so much fun. Thanks again for many memorable nights. This is definitely one of my favorite bars. I love the ambiance and the atmosphere of this place. Walking in here reminds me of an old cabin with dim lights and a nice fireplace.

Place has plenty of seats and an outside patio. They have a jukebox with nice selections so you can pick your favorite song and enjoy a cocktail or two or five if you want to go crazy. Love the whole vibe of this place. The crowd is eclectic. This is not your average bar which is why I fell in love with this place. The whole feel is different than any other rowdy bars in Hollywood. The vibe is mellow and chill.

Beer selections and cocktails are excellent. Prices are average and bartenders are A-OK.

Overall, this place is great for hanging out and grabbing drinks with a group of friends.

Tip: This place gets packed Fridays and Saturdays so arrive early if you can. Also, street parking and meter parking is available.

LOVE the ambiance... very retro hipster cool, sorta what you'd expect in this area. ;-)  The bartenders and the drinks were both fabulous -- def come here for at least drinks.

Food was good overall.. my shrimp po-boy was good but not memorable, BUT my friends loved their food. I tried my friend's burger and I have to admit it was pretty darn tasty.

Also, I didn't know til a few days later that apparently The Griffin is where Nick on the show "New Girl" works.. kinda cool little fact.

Went there at around 9 or 10pm.  There was no seating when my friend and I arrived.  After the rest of our party came, they milled around looking for a table while some of us went to the bar to order drinks.  I asked the bartender to recommend a beer for "someone who doesn't usually drink beer" and I was recommended either the hoodoo (is what I think it was called--don't remember too well) or the strawberry fruli.  I've had fruli before, so I opted for the hoodoo--which cost $7.

It was okay.  I'm not a beer connoisseur so I can't even begin to evaluate it, I can only say that it tasted mediocre to me.

There was apparently a $15 minimum for dark beer.

For a bar, the atmosphere was pretty nice.  Very enjoyable to just come with a few friends and have some drinks.  My friends were absolutely convinced that the fruli was too sweet...but to me it tasted as sweet as how fruli has always tasted.  They must be nuts.

There were a bunch of people ordering food around us and I have to say that all the food smelled great--I really wished I wasn't so full at the time to try some.

Overall a decent experience.  Drinks felt kinda pricey though.  I think I would've gotten more out of this place if I was looking to drink more--so definitely check it out if you're in the area and looking to drink with a few friends!

Ahhhhh The Griffin! This place is interesting to say the least.

Feels like an old cabin without the old man musty smell.  After walking in you're greeted by fire pits, booth and table seating and two bars.

I am an Old Fashioned Whiskey kinda guy and judge bars according to their ability to make a decent Old Fashioned....You know, the kind without all that fruity mashed crap in it.  Well, unfortunately this bar does put that fruity mashed crap in it unlike another nearby bar down the street.

They do have a special beer list on the wall, and the drinks aren't as cheap as they should be.   But if you go here you're here to have fun and fun you will have...if you like the hipster beard and glasses crowd.  Music is decent and they have an outdoor patio that gets crowded with smokers at night.  Even though its an outdoor patio smoke doesn't go anywhere.  It just lingers.

Beware: only walk into the outdoor patio if you don't mind smelling like the Marlboro Man

For you ladies out there who judge a bar by the ability to hold your purses underneath the bar counter...don't go here.  If you do then you will be holding your purses or hanging them on the chair if your cool with that.

    Cheers

Oh The Griffin!! You're so fun my little magical Harry Potter world.

Maybe its just because I'm drunk when I'm here but its totally the adult Gryffindor common room. Really cool round seating areas around fire places. 2 different bars with awesome bartenders! I love this place. Not too crowded so its not annoying to get drinks or anything. The crowd? I don't know. I'm so not social when I'm out drinking, I mean I am but I'm usually with whoever I want to talk to...

I can't speak for their food either...mostly because I'm just finding out they even had any!

This review is specifically for the Hipster bearded douche bag ass hole bartender who served us. Rudely asking for tips and telling us to leave for not tipping him a lot more. Don't expect a fat tip if you just stood there hovering around giving bad vibes.

Other than that the place is nice.

Seems like a social club, everyone up and gabbing.  In that way, this is different than other "bars".  Busy.  Loud.  Divey.  Mixed crowd.  Great drafts and crafts, at $5+ per.  I think sitting must be outlawed at The Griffin.  Tons of people standing, yet, lay their stuff down at a table...and thus crowding out new arrivals, forcing the fashionably late guys, like me at 10pm, outside.

The outside patio was the only place left to sit, so my pal Tony and I headed out there.  Totally different than inside -- quiet, no service, and smokers.  Just what I was looking for...NOT.

I'd go back, but not running.  Jury is still out for me on this place.

    One of my favorite bars.

Mon-Thurs are great nights for dates. Lots of places to sit. It's intimate and the music isn't super loud.

The weekend is a little more crowded, but in a good way. You can stand around and rate the attractive guys with your girlfriends. Truth. haha.

As many have stated, yes, this place makes you feel like you're from the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings.

has a beautiful medieval feel to it.
Dark and intimate inside, great choice of music, and of course great selection of cocktails and beer.

Plenty of seating inside and they have an outdoor seating area where you can smoke. It's somewhat open, so you do fresh air as well!

I usually get beer when I come here, and I am always happy.

    Great place for dates!

I always feel like a group of Hobbits are going to walk in every time I come here.

Service is pretty quick, drinks are good.

They double charged my fiance's credit card -- and I called them, but luckily the manager called back a week later to follow up (luckily, it had already been taken care of).

Definitely check your credit card statement after visiting this place, otherwise be safe and pay in cash.

I'm from Portland, OR and this place really reminded me of home. Cool crowd, loved the Medieval feel with the iron chandeliers, they have fireplaces, too. It's great place to chill, and I could actually have a conversation in there.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that they make very strong drinks. I had a vodka redbull, and let's just say it was mostly vodka. Same goes for the drinks my friends got. So if you love strong drinks, hit this place up.

Quiet on off nights but it can get Cracking on Friday's and Saturdays.

    Bartenders aren't the friendliest.

Beer list is pretty robust with a big craft beer selection (not huge but good).  You can also get 4 dollar olympias all day everyday.

Happy hour is great...5 dollar sides and 5 dollar draft beers from 5-7.

Smoking section outside with two bars on the inside plus fire places both indoor and outdoor.  Probably the best place to go in Atwater village.

No waiting in lines, just go in and enjoy a good crowd and decent drinks.

This place doesn't have a website or email address and it's horrible in getting back at people. At this point I'm just very upset and frustrated. I have been trying to reach them for several days and left SO MANY messages and they still haven't called back!!!!! So unbelievably annoying.
I hope they call back so I can actually GO THERE for my bday and give them a better review after doing so.

Does anyone know another number that I can reach them at?

    Thank you.

I would have given the Griffin four stars, but I had to wait twenty minutes to close out my tab on a slow night. The bar was understaffed and under-attentive.

That being said, this is a great place to start out your night. Ambiance is relaxed and relatively quiet for a bar on Los Feliz. Even on Weekends I have not seen it packed to the point where you need to stand. Drinks are reasonably priced, but I would advise to avoid the specialty cocktails. They are very watered down. Was extremely let down by the Moscow Mule, as I could barely taste the alcohol in it. You also need to give up your ID while you are drinking it because it is served in a tacky metal mug that they don't want you to steal.
As I said before, a good place to get things stared before walking over to the Bigfoot Lodge.

I couldn't decide between 3 and 4 stars because I really like the interior of this bar - it should be a really awesome place to hang out.  Unfortunately, the crappy drinks and truly hideous music kind of outweigh its positive qualities.

The Griffin has a really large main room with lots of tables and other places to sit. It also has an outdoor patio for the smokers. Inside there are two large, freestanding fireplaces - these are the best feature of the bar - so much so that they practically earned the three stars on their own.

The music comes from a jukebox. Had my date and I realized that early on, we might have been able to prevent some of the garbage that poured out of it while we were there. I think that the dreadful music is some sort of hipster thing like wearing polyester floods and creepy facial hair. The music was not only bad, it was really, really loud. Far too loud for the space.

We each had two tiny drinks with almost no alcohol content. They didn't even taste good.  We tried the food - the artichoke dip and the shrimp "po-boy". The dip was good and the sandwich was too (but it definitely wasn't a po-boy).

All in all, the time spent at The Griffin was a disappointment, it has such potential.

This place is great! They have Moscow Mules in real copper mugs and are quite heavy on the Moscow if you know what I mean...

Great food here, quite empty early on, warm atmosphere and a fantastic smoking patio.

Definitely one of the better bars in LA.

Before I moved here, my ex would always talk about taking me to the Griffin, and he kind of built up this bar to be something worth driving out to Los Feliz to visit. I really don't understand what is so great about this place. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was just... a bar. I'll be honest, I didn't eat here, so maybe the food draws people in? The beer was good, but the atmosphere was pretty dead for a Friday night. Also, I've heard friends say they weren't "dressed to go to the Griffin," which makes me assume that they had a dress code, but this place seemed way too laid back to have one.

I am really hoping I caught this bar on an off night. I've heard only good things about it, but to me it was just he normal, run-of-the-mill venue to throw back a few beers (of their admittedly good selection).

Got an advanced copy of "Trilogy" by The Weeknd. Played it during the looooong, rainy drive home last night. Haunting sounds turned the sights into a dark, dystopian journey of misery and despair. Ghosts of lost and unrequited love filled the car cabin as hope seeped out through a cracked rear window.

Wanted to drive off an overpass and commit suicide, but stopped at Da Griff instead. Warmed my feet by the fire and warmed my cockles with firewater; made a few friends and scored a telephone number.

No dis to The Weeknd, but for the rest of the drive home, I looped up a YouTube video of "I Love A Rainy Night" by Eddie Rabbitt. Gloom renounced, mirth restored.
