The ambiance is nice.  The food is pretty good, but not great.  However, you would think that a Mexican restaurant would know how to do salsa right.

I always get the wet burrito, and it's always large & tasty.  I recommend it.  Also enjoyable is the Queso/Salsa mix.  I could do that stuff with a straw!

My wife loves the Orange Creme margaritas.

However, the chips & salsa that they bring with drinks is severely lacking.  No spice and flat.  The chips seem to be made to order or something because they're pretty good.  I can see why the salsa is free.....

The food is awful here. The only reason anyone goes here is for the drinks and that's the only reason I gave an extra star. Mas tequila, por favor. You're going to need it. Drink your body weight in shots and then go to one of the dozens of places around here that serves good Mexican food.

I don't like the food or the service. I went here with my sister and a lesbian waitress was writing her love notes and giving my sister her phone number. It made us both very uncomfortable.

The staff is always super friendly and the food always tastes the same every time. I'm not saying its perfect, certainly not authentic Mexican, but they don't really claim nor do they try to be.

They are always busy because of the frozen Margaritas.
The food is not Mexican. The salsa is, well not salsa if you ask me.
The black bean fajita is about the only thing I eat there.
I cook better at home. i lied in CA. for a long time and learned from the best.
I love Mexican food and if you do too this is not the place to go.
I give it two stares only because of the frozen Margaritas.

This is another "Happy Hat" restaurant. Salsa has the texture of ketchup. Thought I'd like it (there's not much Mexican food I don't like), but this was the exception. Really disappointing.

This is not authentic Mexican food, this is Tex-Mex.  If you're looking for authentic go elsewhere, if you're looking for tasty go here.  The salsa is amazing. I eat it by the gallon. The chips are fantastic and smell amazing. The wet burrito is a favorite of mine, I get it almost every time I'm in town. This Hacienda location is great. It's built in an old mansion of sorts.

Again to sum up; authentic no, delicious YES!!!

This place is severely over-rated.  The only good thing on the menu is the chicken and spinach quesadilla and the fajita salad.  Everything else I've ordered has not been good.  The steak in steak fajitas tastes like its really low quality.

The salsa tastes like cheap tomato sauce.

Not impressed by their margaritas either.  They're either way too "frozen" to drink or melted and don't taste good then either.

The only way I'll go back is if I'm coerced by my friends who for some strange reason love it there.

Hacienda is a local chain that falls in the "Ok" camp. Their claim to fame are their chips, wet burritos, and margaritas. I happen to like the chips a lot but in the "fake food" sort-of way (I also like the occasional frozen Totino's party pizza for the same reason). It's best to think of the chips as salty grease-bombs that are (somehow) none-the-less crispy. The wet burritos are ok, though I usually opt for the fajitas. I'm a non-drinker so I can't say anything about the margaritas.

As another review pointed out, "South Benders" have a strange attraction to Hacienda and therefore is certainly over-rated in some circles. However, I think it's better than a one-star place. Put me at a 2.5-star "Meh, it sure ain't 'real', but it has a special place in my heart".

If you're looking for authentic mexican food, this is not the place for you.

I frequent this place a lot because my best friend loves it and it is pretty much the only place she will eat. We basically go here to eat the chips and talk and hang out. The service is usually crappy. The margaritas are great though so you don't really notice it. The food is mediocre. The salsa can taste like ketchup sometimes and it is kind of hit or miss if the chips will taste fresh.

Are you into obese women?  Are you trying to give yourself diabetes while you get drunk?  You've never been to a real Mexican restaurant?  Do you like mixing ranch with bland salsa?  I have got the place for you!!

A perfect place to hit up before going to the Cap 'n Cork or the Backer.

Wow, where do I start? My husband told me to tell you guys that this place is "the Garfield's of Mexican restaurants." Except I think the chimichangas at Garfield's are actually better.

To begin with, the salsa was AWFUL. It tasted like Hunt's ketchup, I kid you not. I'm shocked that someone actually enjoyed it. It wasn't spicy at all and was basically tomato paste with a jalapeno seed or two. To salvage our chips, we ordered the Hacienda Queso dip instead and it was actually quite tasty. It turned out to be the saving grace of the meal.

Husband ordered the combo and was not impressed. I quote, "This chimichanga tastes like it came from 7-11. It's even got that authentic cardboard aftertaste that comes from freezer burn." His taco salad and burrito...meh, not enough to salvage the meal by a long shot.  I had the quesadilla which was only okay. It was cheese, chicken and some diced onions. I could've ordered the same thing for a fraction of the price at Taco Hell. And the Taco Hell version would've actually had some flavor to it. If not for the sour cream and guac that came with it, the quesadilla would've been utterly tasteless.

Almost none of the entrees came with rice and refried beans. I know 90% of Mexican restaurants probably have giant vats of these things in the back, because they are dirt cheap. Leaving them out makes me feel like this place is trying to cut corners in the worst way. Can you say stingy? Also, they charged $2.29 for a lousy soft drink which was ridiculous. I know restaurants do a big markup on soft drinks, but $2.29 for $0.10 worth of carbonated water and syrup is really pushing it.

The only reason this place gets a second star is because of decent service and the neat setting (the restaurant was in an old house - how cool is that?) I was totally expecting faux-Mexican, but this wasn't even good faux-Mexican. I am completely baffled that every Hacienda I've ever driven by is slam-packed. WTF, South Benders? I might come here again, but only for margaritas and chips with queso, and that's pretty much it.

I've never had a bad experience at Hacienda.  We used to go every friday night for cheap frozen margaritas before going out to the Backer, Corby's, or over to Bleachers for some darts.

The margaritas are excellent.  You can mix and match a couple flavors if you like.  Orange cream, strawberry, and raspberry are some of the best ones (mix and match those).

I've yet to taste a salsa as good as the one at Hacienda.  The chips and salsa are basically the reason I go there when I go back for football games.  I'm the kind of person that hones in on one food item at a restaurant then beats it to death so I can't speak much beyond the enchiladas.  There isn't a way to put more cheese on them (i'm sure they've tried).  Those are also excellent.  My friends always enjoy going there and CJs.  Check both those out if you're only in for a weekend.

If you are a drinker - then this is a good place. If you are looking for chain Mexican food then this is the place but overall the food sucks, the service is half assed at times as well.

The true way to explain how classy this place is I went to get an ORANGE Margarita and the server comes out with a green lime color and then I asked why they did this and she well we mixed up some other flavors but it is good and I said no.  I tell her to bring me a strawberry one and it looks like it is red raspberry and doesn't taste well at all so I order a regular one and it is correct finally.
