Yeah, this small, stale, under decorated  joint is overhyped and overrated. The 1/4 leg and thigh I ordered was alright and the chicken was tasty, but the portions were very small, the fries were overcooked, and I do not think I got my moneys worth of food.
I along with the chicken came two oil soaked slices of bread (from the chicken and fries) Â and a minuscule cup of cole slaw which was very uninspiring. Above all else, the "hot" sauce was not hot at all.
I also had to scream my order through the bullet proof glass. The service was not the friendliest, but they were not rude so I will cut them some slack. This is also my first stop in a chicken shack, and now I am on a mission to find the best one in the area.
Not Harold from Harold and Kumar, Harold is a fried chicken pimp.
Not a lot to say, just get some wings, drums, or thighs. Because dark meat is the ONLY, I repeat, ONLY good chicken. It's got a nice crisp breading, they serve the fries and wonder bread underneath. So they get slightly damp from the oil, HIT the fatty button!
Don't forget to get DAT MILD SAUCE!!!
It's fast, decently priced, and damn good chicken. Probably would be decent to order a tray for a ball game being watched at the crib.
Mood: Fried chicken
I got a 1/2 chicken take out order from here and was a little disappointed. Â It's been a long time since I've gone to a Harolds that it probably doesn't count. Â People have hyped up this chicken over the years and I finally had some. Â Maybe it would have been better if they had packed the sauce on the side rather than smother my take out order with it. Â If you're calling in your order, and you'll want to because you may end up waiting for 20 minutes if you just walk in, remember to ask for the sauce on the side. Â You have a choice of hot, mild or mix. Â They'll charge you extra for a mix, which seems odd because it's the same amount of sauce. Â Must be the extra labour that goes into mixing the 2 together. Â
The food was quite soggy by the time I got home to feast. Â The sauce was very good and went well with the fries, which were also soggy since the chicken was sitting on top next to the ordinary white bread all covered in sauce. Â The parts that were still crunchy were pretty delicious, nicely breaded with good flavor.
We have been eating fried chicken as a family for many years. Â Whenever we have time to make a choice, there is only one choice that gets all of us excited. Â That choice is Harold's Chicken Shack. Â
There is no need to decide between "crispy" or "spicy". Â There is no question whether it will still be hot when it gets home. Â The only dispute we have around the dinner table is whether one of us has taken more than our fair share of that unbelievable mild barbeque sauce. Â
Great service, great food. Â We always enjoy ordering from Harold's Chicken Shack! Â

Crazy, you haters crazy. Nothin compare to Harold's, not here, not there, not anywhere. Aurora Harold's just as good as the rest of 'em. Chicken juicy, crispy, perfect, then you smother it in that sauce, oh god, that sauce, turn it downright heavenly!! Never been a fan of okra, but the wife is from Oklahoma and you shoulda seen her eyes light up when she saw you could get decent okra in Chicago!! Introduced my 7 year old son to Harold's for the first time at this location. His opinion, "best Chicken he ever had"!!!! Oh God, love me some Harold's!!!!!!
Review Source:Let me preface this review by saying that I am biased; I have actually eaten good fried chicken before.  Raised in the city of Chicago with access to several 'Chicken Shacks' for many years, I must say that this one was the worst.  All of the wings were completely dry, obviously re-fried a couple of times, hard to chew and the coleslaw was warm.  Normally if I am dissatisfied I contact the establishment and ask for my meal to be replaced but in this case I don't want to risk having another poor experience.  For the sake of other Aurorans I hope my experience  is not the norm.
Review Source:The fried chicken from here was ok, but relatively pricey given the competition. Â $8.75 for half chicken (4 pieces), with average fries, a very small cole slaw, two slices of white bread and a tangy, vinegary mild BBQ sauce. Â They have 3 sauce selections - mild, hot, and hickory smoked. Â The recipe on the fried chicken is good, the battering on the lighter side, and a little different taste than the others - Popeye's, KFC, or Brown's chicken, so that could be a draw for return customers, as well as the vinegary southern style soul food BBQ sauce. Â The heavy set man and lady running this takeout joint were huffy and acted like grumps, and that, as well as the average value will keep me from returning to this #83 location anyway.
Review Source:The first thing when I think about Harold's Chicken is, "YES & Thank You!" I used to come through my girl's apartment in the city almost every other day, and the one thing I absolutely save in my wallet is some chicken! Â Honestly though, who hates Harold's Chicken and to Kisha J, I don't know what time you went to Harold's, but you must of made them mad when you stepped in there when they were about to close. Â I love the place cause its around the corner, the price is still good, the amount they offer, and its fulfilling. Â Compared to other joints, remember, they don't just offer a wing & leg separated. Â Basically, a 6-wing dinner is honestly a 12-wing. Â In addition, you get a good amount of fries, and the excellent thing about them is the sauce. Â They are 2X bigger than what they offer in the city, so I can DOUBLE DIP! Â I hated moving to Aurora, but when I saw this SHACK, I am fully satisfied. Â Keep the chicken JUICY, but maybe there should be more variety of sauces... then that would be the most perfect Chicken Joints ever! Harold's Chicken, I SALUTE! heheheh
Review Source:Best fried chicken in the burbs. Harold's Chicken is legendary in the city and of the few in the burbs this one is hands down the best. The six wings combo with hot sauce is my go to item. Everythang is made fresh to go. FRESH. Every time I pick up from here by the time I get home the paper bag my food is in is disgustingly soggy from all of the steam in there. I've been in 45 minute traffic to get back to the crib and I still have to wait for my food to cool off before I can eat it. Love Harold's.
Review Source:Supposed to be a well-known fried chicken type of joint, located throughout the Chicagoland as well as the far western suburbs area. Â The fried chicken? Â Breaded and fried, but really, it wasn't that juicy or flavorful. Â A dash of hot sauce made it somewhat better. Â Fries that came with were soggy with the steam within seconds. Â Price was okay, but not worth in coming back. Â No room to dine in, so you order and take it to go. Â I'd rather go to Popeye's and get my solid fried wings.
Review Source:as a young'n, i used to eat this stuff up when i lived in chicago, so i was really looking forward to eating at harold's in the suburbs... what happened? well, my wife brought it home with the sauces on the side to reveal it's true colors. flavorless and cheap. all these years, i was duped by the sauces...
if you like your fried chicken that's not doused in hot/mild sauce, this place may not be for you.
oh, the fried fish was gross. dry, overcooked and flavorless.
It's Harold's chicken! I'm usually not a fan for fried chicken but it's quite good here as well as their Hot links.
However, what really gets me is they're french fries....they use this sweet barbecue sauce to cover all the fries and it takes 3x better than ketchup. I sometimes I go to Harold's for the french fries and that sauce alone!
Great food all around, but overall the fries are divine.
