Would have loved to try it out, but unfortunately they turned us away (impolitely) an hour and a half before the close time listed on their site. We had called the previous week to make reservations and they had told us not to come in on Sunday because brunch is too busy for them to serve tea, and to just walk in on Saturday instead. It was strange to me that we were turned away twice from the tea service - I'm guessing they just don't like serving it?

FYI when we had walked in only two tables were taken, and this was on a Saturday...not a good sign.

Fantastic.......these ladies are doing it the right way.

The menu is fun and the food is professionally prepared.

Next time I am in the area I will be back to try more....

Prompt service, creative breakfast menu, comfortable and unique ambience define this brunch cafe.

This place has a lot going for it. It's adorable. I like the collection of furniture and decor which give it a homey feeling. Its part of a small strip mall, but don't let that keep you away. I was only able to experience their brunch. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich with brie ad it was gooey goodness. My friend ordered some French toast which ended up being some of the most amazing French toast we ever had. When I go back to visit, I will swing by!

Out of this world breakfast!

Everything we had was great, we took a piece of cake to go and it was also great. I can't wait to go back for high tea on our next visit to Ft. Lauderdale.

This is one of those places where I wish I could give a separate rating for the service and the food. The food, as per usual was good, not great but good.. The service (as this was my second trip) was pretty bad. It took us 30 min just to get water or cream for our coffee, and an HOUR to get our food, and there was only 2 of us. I know this is a small place but common, it's Sunday brunch be prepared. I was so pissed off that we got our stuff to go and I sent an angry email to the establishment. We will never go back and make sure no one we know does either. An HOUR for a rather boring egg-white omelet and veggie sandwich is unacceptable, and poor customer service. Stay away unless you want to waste yoru day waiting for them to serve you whenever it's convenient for them.

We had the Migas breakfast this morning with the "spicy" grits. The eggs were delicious and served with tasty home fries. This was the second time we've had breakfast there and both times the food and service was
Outstanding! Ask about their breakfast specials - they really are!
Can't wait for Saturday morning.

My husband and I live in the neighborhood so tried it for lunch. On a positive note, the menu is inspired and our lunch was great but...the place was chaotic. Servers were tripping over each other but the wait was long and it seemed so disorganized. Today, I had a friend visiting from out of town. I really wanted to try the breakfast menu but when we pulled up it was closed. A tiny restaurant, only open for breakfast and lunch, shouldn't close for the day (a Tuesday). I remembered the chaos of the first visit and I can only conclude that you have inspired people with no business sense. A shame, really, because you could have a little gold mine there.

This place had so many amazing choices I could not decide on what to eat for breakfast. I love the giant coffee mugs and the endless varieties of tea. This seems like a great place for a brunch with the gals.

I liked it bc yes, the decor and atmosphere along with the food but yes, the service was just okay. I had high tea. The sandwiches were good, the Republic of Tea options were good and plentiful though I had to repeatedly ask for hot water, teacups, etc. There were two other tables of 4 having high tea and 2 servers unless the other guy was just a bus boy, so I guess it was a bit more understandable.

The place really does remind you of a random cutesy coffee shop you'd run into in NY. I think this partly has to do with the cute plaza it's in, bc around the corner it's ghetto again! The decor is definitely charming though some of the chairs and silverware may be a bit mismatched, but it's still super cute.

As for food, the brie, chicken salad, curried egg salad, cucumber and cream cheese and turkey with cranberry chutney were tasty! The ham and brie was the plainest to me. They did refill the sandwiches and nothing else which is expected. They also had sweet but tasty bread pudding. Mini key lime pie in a phyllo crust, brownies and minimal fruit as garnish. I thought it was kind of weird that when they packed our sandwiches to go they didn't include the fruit that was on there. The other row of food were scones. One with cranberries and grapes, yum! The other was like more tart? Idk I didn't eat that one. Let's just say for high tea for four it's not like they give you exactly enough for everyone to have one (i.e. four)! A good sampling though and probably how the Europeans (some) stay thin.

All in the all, I wouldn't say the $20 justifies the amount of food that you get BUT you must factor in the specialty of it and the atmosphere. There really aren't many high tea places like this in SoFla and I heard they're quite popular among the fancy in Europe, so I guess that justifies the price! Plus like I said you do get variety so it's not like you get ONE giant scone and 1/2 a sandwich and that's it.

I picked up my fiancee that morning from the airport and she wanted to try something in the area as we were headed down south for the weekend.

We sat down and were the only two people in the restaurant. Two other folks were there but left 5 min after we had sat.

We wanted to sit on the corner table but one of the employees told us he had not finished cleaning the table, so we sat closer to the door.

I ordered a small orange juice, my fiancee ordered a coffee.

They brought it out and then we ordered our meals.

While waiting for our meals to come out my fiancee was almost finished with her coffee and wanted another cup. The server never checked on us to see if we needed refills. My fiancee had to stand up and walk to the counter to ask for a refill.

The sad thing is there were more employees than customers at the time. 3 employees and 2 customers.

When our meal was brought out, her sandwich was cold. She ordered a breakfast sandwich and I ordered a burrito. The burrito was good, the home fries with didn't have much flavor.

The waiter once again failed to come by and check and see how we were doing or to ask if we needed something else. They seemed preoccupied rolling utensils in napkins.

So I had to call the waiter and i specifically asked her for the check and boxes to take the meal with us.

She brought the check, and when we asked where the food was she said she threw it away.......

There was no apology. There was no offer to make the food over. There was no offer to refund us. I don't know how long they've been in business for, they seem very amateur when it comes to customer service.

30 dollars for two breakfast, an orange juice and a coffee. I don't mind paying for it if the food and service was adequate.

The good things about the restaurant:
Nice decor, comfortable ambiance.

Negative things (from our experience):
Failed to ask if we needed refills on drinks,
failed to ask and see if our food was cooked good after bringing it out
failed to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything else
failed to focus on the only customers they had in the restaurant
failed to apologize for throwing food away
furthermore failed to refund us, or failed to offer us something else to take home.

We will never eat here again.

This was my first time eating at this cafe. I rarely say this because I eat out so much, but I had to pull the manager Matt aside and tell him that the Hibiscus healthy breakfast sandwich with fruit was, without a doubt the BEST breakfast that I have had in years! Torrey had another breakfast sandwich and also loved it. Highest recommendation for breakfast and I am sure that their lunch is also great. I will be back to try it for sure!!!

I would give it NO stars if possible. Three of us went for Saturday breakfast and they got 2 orders totally wrong. Instead of apologizing, the owner made excuses--"We have new people in the kitchen, blah blah." Well I don''t want to know about your problems; I just want to have a pleasant breakfast with friends. Service and attitude stunk.

Food was good. My husband's potatoes were cold though and coffee was not ready so had to wait. The a/c was cranked up to infinity so it was very cold inside. Sitting outside would have been better. Cute decor. Portion sizes adequate.

We chose this place thanks to numerous positive Yelp reviews, and I'm going to add mine. This is a small and cozy cafe, hidden but worth finding. It's interior is funky boho and the staff are friendly and casual. They have a very complete menu and the food is freshly, and I mean freshly, prepared to perfection.
We are on vacation and leave for home tomorrow. My only regret is that we didn't find the Hibiscus Cafe sooner, so we could enjoy this little gem again.

This is one of those rare and hard to find places that has personality and puts a little extra effort in their food. The more foods I try, the more I seem to become a food snob but when I find people who put genuine effort behind their product I am always impressed.

I ordered pumpkin spiced pancakes with bacon, eggs, a side of their special hash-browns and a fruit cup to share with my son. First the fruit cup had a variety of real quality fruit better than I've had at any place in South Florida.

I don't like bacon and neither does my son typically but today it was a war. They served up apple-wood smoked bacon and you could taste every flavor. Yum!

The eggs were light and fluffy and the pancakes full of sweet flavor. All in all the best breakfast I've had since moving back. Simply Awesome.

I am well traveled and there are not many gems like this here. It's a cozy environment done up like a tea house so it's a little girly for me but if you like good food man up. The food is totally worth it.

Oh and for you ladies looking to play tea, they do have a really nice looking official tea serving or something with pretty dishes and all.

After reading all your great reviews I decided to try this place for myself. We went for breakfast around 11 am on a Saturday and the restaurant was completely full (although it's a small establishment). Our service was mediocre & we had to keep asking the waiter for different items (coffee, fork, butter for the toast, refill on drinks). There were 4 of us and all of our breakfasts came out at different times. The last breakfast coming out 15 minutes after the rest of the table was served. We all sat & waited for the last person in our party to get her breakfast which was a fried egg & a piece of toast. How hard is that? No apology, nothing! Our table had a poached egg which was under cooked, 2 fried eggs & I had a breakfast burrito. Needless to say I wasn't happy with the service or the food.

Although the service was just ok and I had to keep reminding waiter to bring items we ordered. Eggs were over cooked and the toast was stale. We had a party of 4 and two of the dishes came out and placed on table then the other two dishes came out 5 min later. Very expensive for the quality of food. Would never return.

I found the Hibiscus on http://yelp.com
Another great place to go try out. 3 of us went for a brunch Breakfast was over by 11:30 so we order the lunch special. Very friendly service. The order took almost a 1/2 hour to come to the table but it was tasty all the same. Like I read , it's a bit small inside Like 8 to 10 tables Worth trying out. I'll go again just to try out the breakfast. Everyone had the hibiscus ice tea , very naturally sweet no need for sweet n low or sugar we were also given a cookie each after we were finished eating our meals. I believe everything is all made on the spot so expect it to be a little slow

I took my Mom here for Mother's Day last year and it was perfect! So charming and everything was delicious!

It's a bit of a drive for me so it was only today that I finally got around to going back but from now on, I'll make time to take the trek. It's totally worth it.

I had the orange french toast (comes with eggs and bacon) and my friend had the hash brown casserole with biscuits and gravy. Everything was amazing. Portion sizes are perfect, not huge and not too tiny. Everything tasted fresh and homemade.

Our waitress was friendly, cheerful and not intrusive. The decor is fairly feminine and feels quite fancy but laid back at the same time.

Wholeheartedly recommend this place!

Its like discovering a bit of secret garden tucked away midst the hustle and bustle of federal highway. We walked in and were greeted by a cheery waitress as pretty as a southern belle. The place was enchanting looking in a feminine sort of way, pretty plates on the walls, chandeliers in the shape of flower arrangements and garden style seating. Since I am 6'3" and my partner 6'4", we both had a bit of the "bull in a china shop" awkwardness as we tried to figure out where to sit, etc. We sat next to the window where I did discover plastic hibiscus' (another attempt to evoke that garden atmosphere I guess). I personally have a horror of plastic flowers, or plastic plants, so for me that's a negative, but again, that's just my personal opinion.

We ordered the special of the day, a beef tenderloin sammy with a gorgonzola cheese sauce. The sandwich was as perfect as a sandwich could be; the right balance of soft bread, encasing tender juicy meat with just enough sauce to provide the kick, but not overwhelm the meat. It was accompanied by kettle cooked chips and a smidgen of beet and red onion salad. In all honesty, the portions were almost right ... I could have done with more of the beets. After we scarfed down the main grub, our hostess returned with our two cookies. The cookies were light, dainty affairs, enough to sweeten the palate but not overwhelm it. You can tell they they used good vanilla and great chocolate, so that's a plus in my book.

Overall, a great experience and definitely a FTL treasure. A tad girly-girl, but everyone needs a bit of that once in a while.

That being said, wonderful little gem tucked in the trees off Federal hwy and Oakland Park. Great lunch, great service...have the sandwich special...whatever it is....you won't complain!

I LOVE discovering neighborhood jems and this definitely counts as one. Thank you yelp community for guiding me to the Hibiscus Cafe. The reviews are fair and accurate: this is a quaint little place with amazing home-cooked comfort food and super friendly service. When I first read that the place was super small and yet very popular I was afraid I'd have to wait a long time to get seated. But on a Saturday at 10:30am I got seated straight away.

The menu has a lot of non-egg breakfast specialties (I don't eat eggs, so I check on that kind of thing). It has a southern feel to it. One of the specials I got was the cheesy tomato grits. They had fresh jalapenos! Yum! I also got a grilled pb&j. It was a mess to eat but so worth it. My breakfast partner had an orange french toast which came with a side of scrambled eggs and bacon. It was a pleasant surprise to have the griddle stuff (pancakes, waffles) be served with eggs... usually he has to pick one or the other.

I can't wait to come back for lunch. For such a tiny place they have a huge wine selection (which translates to liquor license which in turn means breakfast mimosas!!) They also carry a small line of home-made salad dressings, pasta sauce and chutneys which I believe would make a wonderful hostess gift at your next gathering. The girls waiting that morning were peppy and bright and all smiles. It's nice to go to a place where you can see that the people working there enjoy it.

Hibiscus Cafe, you deserve an A+

Quaint little cafe, has a "tea room" atmosphere sure to appeal to the ladies (in fact, they serve a "High Tea"). Lace table cloths and kitsch little mini chandeliers of different styles. I arrived at 10:30a on Friday and ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage (instead of bacon). It is all rolled into one. It arrived hot and had plenty of melted pepper-jack and sausage in it. The fruit that was on a small skewer was just enough to call a garnishment, hardly worth eating, but nice all the same. I had the iced hibiscus tea that was just the right strength, (not too weak), it was refreshing. The hibiscus tea is on the menu at $5 a glass but I was only charged $2.50 for a "bottomless tea".

The waitress was very nice, but a bit harried, she only had two other tables to attend to, and later helped set up a bridal shower lunch toward the end of my meal. After I gave her cash, she got the bills mixed up, and so shorted me about $5. She corrected this after I pointed it out. Why does it seem I never (and I mean *never*) get a billing mistake that favors me? Not that I wouldn't correct it all the same, but just wondering. All in all pretty nice, and sure to be a hit with certain ladies, but I don't think I'll return only because there are so many other great looking restaurants in the area and I am visiting the area for just a few weeks.

A 5 star rating in my books is rare, but this place is an absolute hidden gem!

WOW! I was so absolutely pleased with this cafe finally removed from my "to try" bookmarks. It is shabby chic and country chic, "feminine" in another review. All are true, but the food STANDS OUT from any other ordinary cafe!

While dining outside, I had a California sandwich and a spinach salad, both done so impeccably well. I am dreaming of that spinach salad with all of its crunchy candied nuts, fresh hard boiled egg, and perfect lemon poppy seed dressing. Skip the chips and try the 1/2 and 1/2 combo! It's a must.

BONUS: Homemade Cookie & Beverage included with our lunch deal =-)
Our server, despite being kept very busy by the Red Hat Society ladies was SUPER attentive with a big smile. Truly a friendly, peppy, southern belle.

I am going to be a regular here.

I will probably change the rating once I go back for a second time. Today I was in the area and found this place screaming at me while using my Yelp app. It was the highest rated breakfast spot so I had to try it.

It's totally your quaint little Southern cafe. Small, cozy, friendly and good.

The only two downfalls were the wait and that breakfast is only served until 11:30am.

On the weekends I hear they're packed so be prepared. Once you're seated and you order, allow at least 30 minutes for your food to arrive, even if its just eggs. For those who like to sleep in, remember breakfast isn't available all day.

The food was really good. Small portions, but very tasty. I had the breakfast burrito. The prices a tad higher for the amount of food you get, but you're paying for charm at this place. And let me say, it has lots of it.

The service is great. Southern hospitality at its finest. I'm looking forward to going here for their Creme brulee french toast as I hear its a must.

Creme brulee french toast is a special that they dont always have, french toast in general is only on the weekends so I didnt get to try and that was real dissapointing, but not as dissapointing as the pancakes that i ordered. 3 pecan pancakes that somehow had no pecans, and if i closed my eyes and ate id swear i was at mcdonalds chowing on their hotcakes. The pancakes were small and dry no amount of syrup couldve saved them. The monkey nutter was good but i could make it at home. The egg crossaint was good but again nothing special whatsoever. The cafe itself is very nice i like the decor and homestyle feeling, outside looks kindve like new orleans, and the workers are very friendly, but i wouldnt go back because for the price the food isnt worth it, that being said i like the uniqueness and hope they stick around for their regulars.

Cute decor but everything else is just okay! Their was only one table besides ours and it took a while for our drink order to be taken. I order a breakfast corsiant and my girlfriend had the breakfast burrito. Both had no flavor and we were disappointed. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing that morning or came on an off day.

Ate here once and would not eat here again. The server seemed to struggle even though there were only three tables occupied. The food took entirely too long and was not worth the wait. The coffee was not hot, the server never brought the cream and the bacon was overcooked to the point of not worth eating. The dish we ordered supposedly came with fruit which was barely enough to fill a tablespoon, and didn't look appetizing. My toast was stone cold and was probably off the plate of the table served prior to ours that didn't get the correct toast and then sent theirs back. The patrons that were there were regulars that appeared to have nowhere else to be and spent their time loudly yapping with one another. The air conditioner was set way too cold and made the experience seem like you were dining at the South Pole.

I was in FLL to pick up family and we found this on Yelp for breakfast ... definitely as good as the reviewers say!

I ordered toast with avocado on it--not on the menu, weird, I know--and they brought it out no problem and no questions asked. Everyone was so happy with their orders and everything was so delicious, fresh, and ripe.

The Hibiscus Wrap and Breakfast Burritos were hits. The cheese grits, the special that morning, were also a favorite for my family.

The atmosphere is so cute and quaint. The staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful. If I ever have the opportunity I will definitely go back.

This place is located in a strip mall and it still manages to have a wonderful atmosphere. The restaurant has a country kitchen kitsch feel to it that works...it has a great Florida feel to it.
The service is friendly and efficient. They seem to be genuine fans of their own food, and that's usually a good sign.
The menu is generous for such a small place. I've yet to try their lunch items, but their breakfast fare is great. The breakfast wraps are good, as are the breakfast sandwiches. The grilled sandwiches are great but the best are their brunch specials like the tropical French toast (more like bread pudding than French toast) and their tomato grits.
Their coffee is good.

My mom found Hibiscus Cafe through great reviews on yelp, and sent me pictures knowing I'd be impressed... Well I was! I finally went to experience this charming cafe on my own and it is now a new favorite!! The staff is so friendly, they treat you like family. I love restaurants that don't just treat you like another number walking in the door. And lets not forget the food, of course! Everything we had was delicious, and fresh. Nothing was frozen or bad quality. There's plenty of food (not cheesecake factory style, but just right) and the atmosphere is so sweet. Whether eating inside or outside, the experience is going to be lovely... If you enjoy these small 'mom & pap' kind of places then you will definitely enjoy this hidden secret.

I recommend both breakfast and lunch... They also have a great iced tea (try the Hibiscus tea*). Its hard to find off the street but its inside the plaza off Oakland and Federal Highway (on the SE side). We sat outside one morning and I could have stayed for hours! I'll definitely become a regular here!

Had Croissant with ham and brie and a
side o fruit (that comes with it), I barely
see the fruits, 2 slices (YES, slices) of grape o.O, one slice very little of I think was strawberry and one cube of pineapple! I'm really not joking!
But it is worth everything else!
Great Service (even by mistaken been given the check before eating :)
Great Food,
Good and cosy ambiance!

I happened to take a trip down to visit my brother in Florida and we found Hibiscus Cafe on yelp. First off, I'd like to thank the reviewers for leading me here and to my pleasure, the place is as good or better than people have suggested. The service was very warm and friendly.

My brother ended up getting the Monkeynutter pancakes with a twist. I don't know if they'd be able to do this when it's busy, but we actually created a new pancake dish based on the Monkeynutter. You can see them in the picture I posted. I ordered the cafe croissant, and the hibiscus breakfast sandwich another day. The brie they put into the sandwich is out of control. This place was sooo good that we went there all three days I was in Fort Lauderdale. Anyone who is thinking of going here... stop thinking and find your way there. You won't regret it.

Great lil find! Loved the quaint atmosphere. I tried one of the breakfast sandwiches, egg, bacon and cheese on croissant and it was delicious. My bacon was perfectly cook and very crispy, the way i like it...bonus!
My meal came with a fruit cup but I would say it rather looked like a thimble of fruit, would have been nicer to see more fresh fruit offered especially when the only thing that comes with the meal is the sandwich.

In all it was a pleasant experience and I am very interested in going back to try their pumpkin pancakes and High Noon Tea Time offering.

Wow!

How could I have not known about this place sooner, especially since it's right down the road from my office? It is tucked away in a little strip center, so you can't really really see it from the street...which turns out to be a very good thing. The strip center's parking lot is filled with trees, so it helps in making this very pleasant dining experience considering it's proximity to Federal Highway and OPB. You might as well be in the middle of some quiet little neighborhood!

First, the cafe is cute and very cozy. It leans more towards Martha Stewart (in a good way) than in a little old lady, frumpy way. It's comfortable. Perfect.

We went for lunch on a Saturday, but got breakfast because the offerings sounded so good. After ordering, our waitress brought us little mini scones and banana nut muffins to try. They were so good! I had the upside-down french toast that had cranberries, apples and pecans. It was sooooo good. It was sweet (but not cloyingly so), and did not need syrup which, by the way, was not served with it. I liked that they knew maple flavor would have deterred from the dish. I was not a huge portion, but perfectly sized. My partner has the "monkey nutter" pancakes which were banana pancakes with chocolate chips and some sort of peanut butter / butter. This was not a kid's dish! Again, sweet, but not too sweet. I love the restraint shown on both dishes.

Having read their weekly specials and being suitably impressed, we decided to go back for breakfast the very next day. I had the red velvet pancakes with sausage and a side of cheesy grits. My partner had the breakfast croissant (ham, egg whites and brie), also with a side of cheesy grits. Again, all delicious!

The owner and the waitresses were so nice and pleasant. I've really tried to come up with something that's not so great about this place, but can't think of a thing. This is likely to become a regular hangout.

It's a real comfy, cozy little nook of a place done in little old lady, rather frumpy sort of décor, live flowers on each table, spotlessly clean with real good home made type of cooking.

You might expect that you are having a meal at your grandmother's home.

It only has about 8 tables inside and two outside that only seat four, but it is a lovely setting and a gem of a place.

The best thing, besides the delicious food is that there isn't any commercial, restaurant feel to the place. It really is a café, just as the name says it is and the location with ease of parking couldn't be better.

The hours are rather weird, being 11:00 until 2:30 weekdays with 9:00 until 2:30 on weekend. I only say weird because I'm sure this is exactly what many would enjoy for a light evening meal as well.

They also, for such a smallish place have a very nice wine selection and perfect attention to detail service. It certainly rates a 4 Star Plus in my book, however, even though it only ever so slightly lacks uniqueness to its menu it really is about as good as it gets for what it is meant to be, hence I'm giving it a coveted 5.

Excellent little restaurant!
We went there for breakfast and it was a perfect way to start our Saturday morning! I had the homemade granola, fruit and yogurt and that was DELICIOUS! I also had the vanilla coffee which I would prefer having it a bit stronger than it was. I don't remember what my husband had but he surely was happy with his choice! The waitress was very helpful, checking on us regularly without been too annoying. We sat outside in the bistro set and it was great to enjoy the sunny day while in the shade in that quiet cute street.
