This place is as authentic as it can get! I love family-owned-family-run restaurants. Mom cooks, dad manages and kids help out. The chicken momos are nice and moist and the sauce that goes with it is killer. Kebabs were very moist and very yummy :) please go there and give this place a try out.

This place is GREAT!! A group of us discovered this place after returning from a trip actually in Nepal. Their food was amazing and tasted just as good as the native food. I really enjoyed the owners and their family who run the restaurant. They were very kind to us and were quite hospitable.   I was grateful to get a taste of great food with great friends and a great service. Definitely want to come back  again. Thank you for having an excellent restaurant.

I happened to be in the area today, and wanted to try something besides another chain meal.  I made it in just before they closed for the afternoon (two o'clock).  Now, I was prepared for the buffet remnants to be picked over, and yes, to a degree, the food had been out too long.  For the most part, the selection was still full, tasty, and they cooked up one or two items fresh just for me.

I'd like to be back under better circumstances, and I am pleased I stopped in.

Quick and dirty:  Family run counter service restaurant serving Afghani and Nepali foods.  Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a lunch buffet.  The restaurant is on the back side of a strip mall.  The strip mall faces 82nd street.  Recommended.

This is the first time that we have gone here since the ownership changed.  There is a wider variety of food than under the previous ownership, and the buffet is new.  The food on the buffet looked and smelled good.  We ordered from the menu and had a chicken kabob and a sirloin kabob.  Both came with rice and pita bread.  Unlike under the previous owner, a salad was not included.  Nonetheless, a good value for the cost.

Chicken kabob:  Well spiced and tender.  Good flavor.  Recommended.

Sirloin kabob:  Cooked on the medium side of medium rare.  Good flavor, but a bit more chewy and less juicy than I've had there previously.  Recommended.

Wow. Just...wow. Ordered carry-out on a Monday after work. We all know how overwhelming Castleton can be, but this place was actually easy to find. It really is across from AMC, and it really is on a corner.

I ordered the vegetarian sampler. I had no idea what to expect. It was amazing. The lentils may be the best I've had in indy (sorry, favorite Indian restaurants). They were cooked perfectly and spiced just right, but not too spicy where it kills your tastebuds. The basmati rice was excellent. There was also a sweet carrot, raisin, & almond 'slaw' on the side that was sweet for balance. My favorite part, however, was the eggplant. I like that they sliced it thick enough to hold in a stew such as this. A lot of eggplant dishes lose the main ingredient from slicing it too thin. This eggplant was hearty and satisfying, so I think a lot of meat-eaters would enjoy this dish.

This place is a gem and I'll definitely stop by next time I'm in the area. Or, Himalaya Kabob Korner, could you come to Broad Ripple?

Quality, Authentic and Great Price Performer. Went there last night with the Indy International Supper Club.  I moved here from DC and totally miss the lovely little ethnic restaurants. This place delivered! And to top it off the owner and his family were there to talk about the food, ingredients and a little about the culture.  Even though this restaurant alludes to Afghan food, they menu has strong Nepalese cuisine items. Loved it!

Have you ever had a meal that just transcended everything you expected about food? Where you said, happily trotting away with a stuffed belly, this is as good as it gets? Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Himalayan Kabob Corner.
I can't even tell you what I ate, other than 'everything' during last night's Supper Club, but let me tell you, I had pickled potatoes. Who knew they would rock my world? And buffalo meat! This was fully a win. Ya want more details, go to the restaurant and discover nirvana for yourself.

I came to Kabob Korner as part of the Yelp International Dinner - we had some food that was on the menu and some special food prepared just for the Yelp dinner. Before the food was served the owner came out with his family and shared a little about his restaurant, the food and his family. This is literally a mom & pop shop with the whole family pitching in. The owner couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating, he was someone that cared about his restaurant and was eager to share his unique food.

Speaking of the food - it was scrumptious. The place usually had a mix of food from Afghanistan, Nepal and some Mediterranean - the Yelp meal featured mainly food from Nepal. I wasn't a huge fan of the beaten rice but it did bring an interesting crunch to the meal - I loved everything else, the chicken curry was better then most Indian curries, the potatoes and pickles were delightfully spicy, the mo mo dumplings were delectable (the sauce made it even better!) and they had an amazing and authentic buffalo dish. Also presented were tasty lentils, cauliflower with black eyed peas, rice and a turnip green/spinach dish that was simple, fresh and satisfying. The meal ended with Napolise tea which I would describe as Chai with a bit more cardamom than your typical chai - a perfect ending to this feast.

Not all of these dishes are on the daily menu but you're sure to get an adventure in taste and you'll feel welcome by this warm and friendly family. Come and try it for yourself - they offer a lunch buffet and when I checked in on Yelp I was offered free baklava with my meal!

The boys and I had some time to kill before a movie so we stopped in here.  Husband is vegetarian and he loved his range of options and selections. D is a semi picky meat and potatoes sort with a soft spot for lamb who was not disappointed.  I liked the plate with a variety of things, i liked that you can avod gluten.  Everything was great.  This strip mall gem will definitely be seeing more of us.

Great little place that we're so happy we found. The owner gave us a great rundown of what each dish was and their specialties. My wife and I had the quabili, lamb kabobs, with a side of manto and kwanti soup. Everything was great, but the quabili and soup stood out.

Definitely will return soon. Will recommend to others to support this local spot.

Afghani foods, Nepali foods. Both delicious. Both, I believe, geographically and culturally unique from each other. Why this restaurant serves both is not for me to understand, but rather for me to eat and enjoy.

(Apparently a Nepali family recently bought "Kabob Korner" from the same restauranteur who previously owned another Afghan restaurant in NW Indy).

The food: we sampled manto and beef kabob. The manto was FABULOUS. Steamed dumplings of turkey and spices coated with delicious sauces sat on a plate with some excellently flavored basmati rice. So, so good. The beef kabob was flavorful, the pita bread was acceptable if a little uninspired, and again the dish featured some great rice.

Next time I'll get momos -- I had my share of some fabulous momos in Darjeeling, India as many of the restaurants and hotels are owened by Nepali people. Fingers crossed that HKK's momos taste as good as they looked.

    $8.99 lunch buffet also available.

I have visited this place back when it was the Kabob Korner, when the food was more Afghani focused, and have returned since it became the Himalaya Kabob Korner.  This place is special and dear to my heart because it is the only place I know of in Indianapolis, at least so far, that I can get "manty," a Central Asian steamed dumpling.

I lived for two years in Central Asia, specifically in Turkmenistan, and manty was my favorite dish while I was there.  I found out from speaking to the staff at Kabob Korner that manty (listed on the menu as "manto") is actually called "momo" in Nepal, which was fun to learn during my last trip to the restaurant.  The manto here is substantially better than the manty I had in Turkmenistan as Turkmenistan rarely uses any spices in their cooking.  The manto at Kabob Korner is delicately spice, tender, and has a perfect amount of tomato sauce and yogurt sauce spooned on top.  It's a hand-made dish that you can get at a very affordable price: right now, 6 pieces of manto are only $3.95 and 12 pieces are only $6.95.  Since I have only just recently realized manto could be simply added as a side dish for so cheap, I will finally begin testing out more of the other dishes on the menu and just add a side of manto to everything I get.

I have to admit that, despite this being the "Kabob" Korner, I still have not tried the kabobs.  (Shashlyk in Turkmen.  Sekuwa in Nepalese.  Yes, I asked while I was there.)  I'm not sure how anyone could possibly go wrong while cooking kabobs, and so I have put off this possible pleasure for testing out some of the other options.

My most recent new foray here was to try out their soup: I had seen it on the menu before and the description reminded me of soup that I had in Kyrgyzstan, I think called laghman soup in Kyrgyzstan, which is a delicious noodle soup with meat and whatever vegetables that were available (usually eggplant, green peppers and onions during my visit).  I don't remember the name that this soup was given on Kabob Korner's menu.  To be honest, I thought the soup could be approved upon at Kabob Korner as their soup was a little too salty (at least on that day) and seemed to use a mix of frozen mix of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.  I would have preferred vegetables that are a bit more appropriate to the region that the soup comes from since broccoli and cauliflower aren't readily available in those regions of the world and so their dish wasn't very authentic.  However, I would still likely order the soup again, despite knowing this issue in advance, as it was flavorful, with just a little bit of spicy kick, with veggies, beans, and noodles.  I do like have a healthy option to the side of manto I will be ordering.  :-)

I haven't had the baklava since the ownership has changed, but when I did have it prior, it was the best baklava I had ever had.  [I, admittedly, have never been to Greece.]  In the future, I look forward to testing out the Quabili Pallow as Pallow/Palov/Plov is the national dish of many Central Asian countries.  There are also some vegetarian options, uch as the Veggie Momo and Sambosa Veggie that I am curious about.  Some day I will test out the kabobs, as well, since it is the namesake of the restaurant, but considering all of the other amazing sounding options, it will likely be quite some time before the kabobs make it to the top of my list.

I plan to arrange a group event here soon.  The staff promised that they would be able to work any such events out easily with advance warning.  I can't wait!

If you are a vegetarian living in Indy and you have never gone to Kabob Korner and had the vegetarian entree plate, I need you to stop what you are doing RIGHT NOW and go get it!  I am telling you it's that good, and so worth braving the Castleton area roads/parking lots.

Like an oasis in the concrete strip mall jungle that is Castleton, KK is a no-frills little place with absolutely delicious food.  Harsh lighting, disposable cutlery and plates, and some awesome guy playing solitaire in the corner.

So we almost didn't go in... Boy would that have been a mistake. It was around 7 on  a Friday and the place was empty. I even double checked to make sure I we pulled up to the right place. After double checking, we figured to follow the other good reviews and just go in. It was AMAZING!

We ordered the Kwati soup. Full of earthy beans and spices, it really was an authentic soup taste that I have never even tasted before.

I had the sirloin kabob. The spice marinade was spot on, and  it was tender. I even saved a chunk my dogs in the car, and they acted as if it was one of the best things I'd ever held in my hand. The basmati rice rice was cooked perfectly and the red sauce was a nice flavor, not to tomato-y.

My husband had the lamb kabob. Perfectly cooked, tender and well seasoned. When we have guests in town that want good lamb, this is where I would take them.

I also took the baklava to go. It has that very buttery and flakey home made taste. Which really makes stand out from traditional store bought stuff you might normally find.

I can't wait to go back, I wish I didn't live 45 min away, because I would hit this place up for lunch all the time if I only lived closer!

Pros: Great food, tasty and authentic

Cons: service a bit slow even when the place is empty, but you get freshly cooked meal instead of fast food quality

So-so: not much decor, ambiance could be improved

Would I come back? yeah, when I'm in Indy area....will try the lamb kabob next tiime.  I had the sirloin kabob for lunch (comes with basmati rice & pita bread) for under $10

I love this place.  Just love it.  Delicious kabobs (I'm a chicken man, myself) with perfect seasoning and some of my favorite rice topped with some kind of tomato-based sauce.  It's hard to explain what is so great about their food because most of it is so simple, but it's just done so well.  My girlfriend, being a vegetarian, always gets the vegetarian plate with its eggplant and lentils - that is probably the most complex entree on the menu, and it's also fantastic.  Happily it's usually too much food for her, so I always get to eat about a quarter of it... if I have room after polishing off my kabob.

The hot sauce is great and goes perfect with that cooling yogurt sauce.  I usually fill both pitas with chicken and top them generously with both sauces.  Just thinking about it is getting me hungry, and I just ate.

Not loads of atmosphere, being in a strip mall, and they clearly cut costs with the plates and cutlery (all disposable).  This isn't a fancy establishment.  But it's very clean, very friendly, and above all very good.

This is a treasure hidden in plain sight. From the outside it looks like any other gyro joint however it is anything but that. They have a small menu but it is exclusively authentic Afghan food.

Nasir is the owner and he is another one of Indianapolis' amazing restaurateurs. He will accommodate you in any way you need. If you start talking with him he will probably tell you some crazy story from Afghanistan. This is true ethnic dining.

All of the food is wonderful but if you can only choose 1 thing I would recommend the vegetarian. It comes with eggplant, lentils, and spinach atop a bed of flavored rice and finished off with nuts and raisins. No bland food here.

The kabobs vary in quality from day to day from really good to mind blowing.

The other thing you have to try here is his baklava. I wont say anything else. Just get it.

If your looking for kabobs this is the place in Indy.  Lamb, chicken beef kabobs are all delicious just a matter of personal preference.

Manto and Baklava have all received high marks from others that a fans of those dishes.

Place is pretty spare but always spotless and very clean.  Paper plates and cups takes it down a little but not a big deal as the food is the star.

The best kabobs in Indy. I have yet to have any one of them that isn't great. The lamb kabob is the real star, though. Absolutely delicious. While there's not much ambiance, the food more than makes up for it. The owner is also extremely friendly.

I went to this restaurant while I was in Indy on business.  I may not have tried it if it had not been for the reviews and Yelp!

There is no mistaking the fact that it is a very small restaurant with limited resources, but that said - they produce great food!  I had a chicken kabob plate with basmati rice.  The pita bread was fluffy and tasty.  I added some of their hot sauce (labeled "very hot" and it was just right for me) to the rice and it was enjoyable.  Definitely a good find here in Indy!

If you are looking for a fancy sit-down dinner, this is not your place but if you are wanting good, inexpensive food, by all means head to Kabob Corner.  It is right in front of the mall in a separate plaza.  You can miss it if you are not looking so be on the lookout when you turn into the mall!

My friend and I decided to try this place out and at first had no idea what we were going to get.  But get we did, and by the saints it was DEE-licious!  She had the chicken kabob which had awesome flavoring and good pieces of white meat, if you're into white meat.  Yes, I admit I'm  a bit of a meatist.  I tried the Manto which is a dumpling with meat and onions.  The flavoring was perfect and I could not finish because of being so full of good old basmati rice.  All in all it was a smashing hit.  In addition the owner is extremely nice and down for small talk.

I saw some good reviews for this place on Yelp, so I figured I'd check it out.  I ordered the lamb kabob, which seems to be a popular choice.  It tasted great, especially with yogurt sauce and spicy sauce.  The portions were fine, filling enough, but definitely not huge.

I was a bit taken aback by the price though.  Rising food costs and not-so-great business (we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Saturday evening) meant that my plate was about $11 after tax, and it didn't even include salad.  I can get a delicious order of lamb over rice from a food truck in NYC for almost half that.

All in all, I'll probably still drop by here if I'm in the area and really craving kabobs.  Just be warned that salad has been omitted from all entrées and lamb dishes cost $1 extra now.

Thanks to the previous reviewers for making this place easy to find! Turn in to the mall from 82nd and the restaurant faces the movie theater. Easy enough!

Daniel B. was nice enough to set us up with a little feast for the Yelp! Indy International Supper Club. This was my first visit and I will definitely go back.

The restaurant is very simple. Go to the counter, speak with the very friendly folks working there, and they bring you your food. Food is served on styrofoam plates and with plastic silverware. Some people might not like this idea, but I think it is great! Nice and simple! Keeps the focus on the food and not doing dishes etc...

And the food? Amazing! I have no idea what things were called (fortunately they put pictures of the food on the wall ala chinese takeout). Everything was fantastic and very flavorful. I don't have much experience with lamb, but it tasted great. Good seasoning and cooked just the way I like it.

I really hope I can make it up to that part of town so I can eat there more often!

Because it was so damn filling... I didn't eat for 18 hours after I had one dish at Kabob Korner -- the Quabili. Basically it was goat biryani gone lamb and Afghani... basmati rice in a crazy oil sauce with raisins, carrots, shaved almonds and house made tomato-based sauce stewed with lamb.

Whoa. Yeah. I like this place. I like places like this. I like strip mall nooks. I don't like 86th street's mess of mall parking lots and over passes. Whoever designed that is just a loon. The owner of Kabob Korner... not a loon.

Festooned with photos of the food (big points -- thank you!), the room is bursting with Barney-purple and Orange. There was a space heater. There was one menu board with detailed descriptions of dishes seen in photos.

My LP, tablemate, ordered the chicken kabob and that chicken was rad. Really... bright yellow curried, tender chunks of chicken rad. I wanted that chicken in my Quabili. I did fill up on what I had, but I just wanted more. Afghani style food always induces my glut.

I recommend going at night... facing out of the restaurant so the 100 foot tall Marilyn Monroe print in the movie theatre is the back drop for your experience. It's a nice touch.

What else is a nice touch is how the owner took Sriacha and made it better. He added some oils, spices and garlic. It's the best sriacha in town.

Repeat visit to Kabob Korner recently.

Wow, this food is incredible.   I had the Aush (soup), the samosa appetizer, and the Quabbili with chicken.  As always, I asked for some of the green chutney to drizzle over the top of the entree.

Simply amazing.  I've tried Afghani restaurants that serve similar food in NYC and elsewhere, but this is the best.  I wish the ambiance was a little warmer, but I would sit and eat anywhere for this food!

    I promise.

Small and unassuming, Kabob Korner serves up a small menu of simple, great tasting Middle Eastern food. They also make the best Baklava in town. Period.

My husband had the mildly sweet Quabili Pallow with lamb. I had the Manto, which was turkey dumplings in yogurt sauce. Both were very good. Almost everything comes with basmati rice, which is superb in itself.

I recommend trying the Firnee, a light, almond milk pudding dessert with a dusting of pistachios is a delicious finish to a heavy meal. And did I mention the Baklava?

The owner is funny, personable and will probably be the one who takes your order. He came around and talked to us a bit about his story. Apparently he's been in the restaurant business 30 years, and owned the Blue Martini near 96th and Keystone, but sold it when he retired. When the quiet got to be too much for him, he decided to start a small, out-of-the-way restaurant. Kabob Korner is just that.

The restaurant is somewhat hard to find. It's on the north side of the strip mall on 82nd St., and is directly across from the Castleton AMC theater.

Next time we're trying the kabobs!

Did I mention the purple walls and the location that is difficult to find?  Food served on paper plates?  The menu is pictures of the dishes posted on the wall like a chinese to go house?  None of that matters.

Its about the food, folks. Marinated chicken, sirloin and lamb, cooked perfectly on a skewer and paired with basmati rice, some pita bread and a couple tasty sauces, served on a paper plate.   The owner will suggest the lamb.  Trust him on this.  Perfectly cooked, beautifully seasononed, VERY tender chunks of lamb - it reminds me of beef tenderloin with a middle Eastern flair.  You won't find better in Indy, and that includes the white tablecloth eateries.

Grab a bottled soda from his fridge, have a seat and get comfortable.  Enjoy the purple walls, think about how lousy the location is on the back side of the building facing away from 82nd.  Ponder how they stay in business....then the food comes.  Oooohhhhhh.  Now you understand, and find yourself already making plans to come back...

I went for a late lunch/early dinner around 4:45pm. They didn't open until 5pm, but the owner was nice enough to unlock the door early for me. I hadn't been there before so I was asking a lot of questions and he was patient to answer all my questions. Since they hadn't opened and it was going to take ~15 minutes for my food to be ready, he gave me a piece of baklava while I waited. I ended up getting the chicken kabob (6 pieces generously seasoned and broiled to perfection), which comes w/ rice (with a nice marinara-like sauce on it) and 2 slices of pita. It also comes with a yogurt-based garlic sauce and if you want, some hot sauce. I also got some baklava. It was really, really tasty food, well priced ( about $9) and I will be going back to try the lamb very soon. The baklava, by the way, was very tasty as well. I like more nuts in mine but you could tell it was fresh. I've had baklava from about 20-30 places now, and I'd rate it an 8-9/10.

Kabob Korner is truly a top restaurant amongst Indy's impressive Middle Eastern eateries.  If you remember Kabul's and the quality of their cuisine, Kabob Korner will not disappoint.  What you will sacrifice in ambiance, you will gain in price -- this place is perfect in the current economy.

I had the Quabili Pallow which is a nice mixture of Basmati rice and lamb topped with raisins, carrots, and almonds.  The lamb was very tender and nicely seasoned.  The rice rice also had a nice seasoning (perhaps saffron).

My wife had the sirloin kabob, you will not find a more tender kabob the city.  We both really enjoyed the vegetarian dish which had a lentil and spinach dish.  We both left wondering how we could duplicate it at home.

Yes it is in the strip mall, had to drive around twice to find it, thinking I was in the wrong place, but boy am I glad I did!

Two of us for $20!  For a really good meal, I knew it was out here!

We started with the Sambosa, gound lamb in a flaky paskery, I had the Kurma Chalow, wonderful!  My friend had the Lamb Kabobs, good but glad I ordered the Kurma Chalow.

Spoke to the owner he used to own the Blue Martini, sold it, wanted a restaurant that was easier so he could relax more, glad he did!  The food is wonderful at Kabob Korner!

This place was just terrific. It sounds generic, I know, the name just wreaks of silly chain-ism. But believe me, they are serving up some serious Mid Eastern grub here. You must go try this place. If it goes out of business, I'm coming after you...yes you.

The food was perfect, I went with the Sirloin Kebab, well cooked and tremendously seasoned. It was the best Kebab I've had. The accompanying Basmati rice with light tomato sauce was just as good and the yogurt sauce on the side...well, lets just say there wasn't enough of it.

The place is bright and well decorated, and there is a ton of space in here. The owner is very friendly and generous, and though I was dining alone, I had some great company while I did so. He told me he was formerly the owner of Blue Martini and recently sold it because he was no longer interested in the late night restaurant scene.

He even brought me some complimentary Baklava, not because I was reviewing the place (I don't tell anyone when I'm reviewing their establishment, to do so would taint the experience), but simply because he was friendly and enjoyed having me. I can't wait to go back, and hopefully all of you will take me up on my word and go check this place out, it deserves the business.
