For: Great service
Against: Chris
Other essentials: Park near / around Don Quijote to avoid paying in the back or gambling for that tiny lot in the front.
Reasons to go to Home Bar:
The tater tot nachos (get 2)
The cheap drink specials, includes ciders for $3.50.
The supa-fast service
Darts in the corner
Reasons to never go near Home Bar again:
The owner Chris. After a great night, we were pissed about how he handled a situation. Our waitress calls last call for food, my friend orders, we get our food and as Chris serves it, he says, "Are you guys serious?" and decides to harass us to eat it more quickly because the kitchen needs to wash the (ONE) dish. I think we're all joking until he sends his bouncer Jon over to clear the dish without her being finished. To their defense they tried to fix it by giving us shots but at that point my friend was drunk and trying to eat food, not chug tequila. And my other friends were driving. So...thanks for the shots?
To make it worse, we tried to talk it out but Chris kept blaming everyone else! It was the waitress' fault for putting in the order. It was the bouncer's fault for miscommunicating. It was the kitchen staff's fault for wanting to go home. Dude. Shut up and take criticism like a man. I love this bar, dislike you and now not even tater tot nachos will bring me back.
Home Bar and Grill is definitely a great place to go with friends, eat great food and have a few drinks. Last night we ordered tater tot nachos, garlic chicken, kim chee fried rice, ahi poke, dynamite roll, truffle fries and of course drinks.
Tater tot nachos...this is a must try. Tater tots and nacho toppings, can't go wrong with that combo. The tater tot are nice crispy and goes really well with an ice cold beverage. Made with melted cheese, sour cream, olives, jalapenos, salsa and I think bacon bits. Good combo.
Garlic Chicken...very good, not overly cooked or sauced. Perfection on a plate.
Kim Chee Fried Rice with two eggs...not bad but I don't like peas and carrots in my fried rice but other than that it was good.
Ahi poke...very fresh and tasty. It has limu, onions and i think it has sesame seeds too. Whoever is the chef at Home Bar and Grill, he/she is talented.
Dynamite Roll...It comes with four thick cut pieces of ahi, deep fried with spicy sauce drizzled on it with furikake and shoyu. The pieces were still nice and juicy all the way through and not overly sauced. Usually if you get something deep fried it gets dried out but not this, it was nice and juicy.
Truffle fries...the fries were good, but the pepperoni pieces were salty. Of all the dishes this one wasn't the greatest. Could've been better but I guess if you are drunk it would still taste good.
This place is a great place, but if there if there is someone under 21 in your group that person has to leave by 8:00pm. They do take reservations but I think you need at least 8 people. Since this place is pretty popular if you come in later in the night you will have to wait for a table. If you come around 5:00-5:30 you should be in great shape to get a table and they have valet parking in the back of the place or a paid lot next door.
When I was 20, I happily accepted deafening booty music and getting shoved and/or accidentally socked in the eye by drunk strangers for the sake of a "good time". THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
Home Bar provides the comfort and laid-back awesomeness of a house party without the downfall of cleaning up. This place attracts a more sensible crowd and the likeliness of getting harassed/abused is pretty low. The spacious area and comfortable seating allows everyone a healthy amount of personal space. Chill place to grab a drink and catch up with friends.
Happy Hour: 2-8pm.
MUST TRY: Tater Tot Nachos.
TIP: The parking lot is pretty small, if possible, back into the stall so you'll have an easier time getting out.
Home Bar is officially over rated. Â The food isn't great. Â Beer prices are nothing special. Â The atmosphere is obviously imitating several other local bars that were open before Home.
In my observations of Home, I'd make the following recommendation: Â if you didn't grow up in Hawaii, skip it. Â If you did grow up in Hawaii, you'll probably like it. Â
In the end, there's better local Honolulu bars, so why waste your time here?
Group of seven of us tried this place for the first time. Reservations were at 6:30. Our party was able to be seated even though our entire party was not present at the same time. They do not have a blender so no blended drinks. We did devour tater tot nachos, garlic chicken, steak with Kim chee and egg, pork chops with onions, and the poke. Everything was tasty. I prefer my steak medium well. The steak was on the pink side. The poke was fresh and what is that green sauce? It compliments the poke well. Service was quick and at tentative. Full service bar + great food = $300. It's best to come in groups. No juke box. Music played in background. Out of towers enjoyed the food and you can't go wrong with the drinks.
Review Source:Finally made it to Home Bar and Grill!
We ordered lost of stuff, tater tots were my favorite, but got other dishes like the garlic chicken, kalbi fried noodles, pork chops and an ahi dish, got most of the animal groups in... and already got in mind what we want to try next time - kimchi fried rice, negitoro, burgers, seared ahi and also their huggge salads looked good!
side note:
My detective skills lead me to believe that they use MSG or ajinomoto in a lot of their dishes, or atleast the ones we ordered.... Came home with thee worst dry mouth and felt like I needed a gallon of water just to satisfy... no good dat one
Once you've been to Home Bar once....it's food and drinks will creep into your brain at random times and give you random cravings that lead you back again and again.
I have been three times and always ordered the same things....Garlic chicken and tater tot nachos. These foods are like crack (not that I would know) but once you've had a bit - you can't stop eating, no matter how hot the food is or how full you get. The crispy garlicky chicken has a sweet sauce and the tater tot nachos are all your guilty pleasure condiments slathered over crunchy lil potato jewels. Â I also got to try one of their fish dishes with seared fresh catch (don't remember - had too many martinis by that point) and it was excellent, not something I'd expect from this dive.
Kevin, the bartender, makes great drinks, especially his Starburst martini made with calpico, and it tastes like a strawberry starburst, for only $5 during happy hour! The hubby had the Blue Moon seasonal on draft and it was really good.
They have lots of TV's perfect to watch whatever game your into (we were after a Clippers game) and lots of seating that when they open are pretty empty but can fill up fast around 5pm.
The only downside is the parking try and find street if you can.
Overall, it's my fave dive bar...thanks yelp for introducing us!
As you will hear from other reviewers, the tator tot nachos are the best! The fried noodles were really good too. Â The staff is friendly, although that night it seemed that multiple tables needed to remind them to bring the check, water, wanting to order. Â But since we weren't in a hurry we didn't mind at all.
Review Source:My husband and I recently came upon Home Bar & Grill when our first choice for drinks was closed. Â We immediately noticed the parking lot was filled. Â Walked in and took our seat at the bar. Â Kevin, the bartender was very friendly. Â We ordered the seared ahi and the truffle fries. Â Both items were delicious! Â The place serves family style food, no karaoke but they have two dart boards. Â We were told that it gets busy after 4:30 and can get pretty crowded. Â We would definitely go back again.
Review Source:My concierge, Gloria, is 'da bomb'. She has sent us to several great restaurants and has hit another home run.
My wife and I visited on a Tuesday, around 5. It was not busy and never got very busy while we were there. So I suggest going early and mid-week.
We ordered too much for the two of us, but brought home leftovers we can fight over. Following Gloria's advice we ordered 4 menu items, truthfully 2-3 would have done us, but we would not have had leftovers.
What we ordered.
Seared Ahi...outside perfectly seared with the interior raw, a delicious sauce came with it. Amazing Ahi.
Kim chee fried rice...I was leery of ordering Kim chee, but it was a bit spicy and added great taste to an already great fried rice.
Tater tot nachos...very odd combination. Imagine nacho toppings not on chips, but on crispy fried tater tots. I agree it is an odd item, but it does work and is hard to not to keep picking at them.
Garlic chicken...for me two of my favorite things, garlic and fried chicken. No bones here, think hunks of fresh chicken battered and fried. The garlic is subtle, but there. Definitely a yummy dish.
This hole-in-the wall joint is one you should visit. Parking is not easy to find, we took a cab, it looks like a dive---think clean bar and grill on the inside. Not in a fancy neighborhood, but a nice area with businesses around it...part of Korea Town.
Thanks Gloria, my wife and I would also like to recommend this restaurant.
Me and a friend came here for dinner and drinks tonight. We came early at about 4:30pm. It was pretty full, but we walked in and grabbed an empty table. Everyone was watching the Stanley Cup playoffs. It was an eclectic crowd...from a girl with dreads, to a Korean local family eating to tourists.
Once seated a waitress came by and asked us what we wanted to drink and dropped off a menu. Service was friendly and the food came out in ample time. The bar appears clean and bright, which I like.
This is what we ordered:
Tater Tot Nachos - Totally awesome and crispy. Topped with sour cream, nacho cheese, jalapenos, olives, salsa, green onions, and bacon bits.
Fried Rice - Probably one of the best fried rices I've tried (next to my mom's). The rice wasn't hard like in some other restaurants. The seasoning was very flavorful with oyster sauce and it's loaded with spam, portuguese sausage, carrot, peas, green onion and bacon. Better than Side Street Inn's fried rice hands down!
The Special of the Day: Pan Seared Steak with Big Island Farms Sage in a Browned Butter with roasted veggies - Very tender beef! It was $16 and can't be beat. We got it medium rare and it was cooked as was ordered. The sage was crispy almost like an herb nori and the roasted veggies were delish (zuchini, squash, baby onions and tomatoes).
Fried Chicken Wings - Came out very crispy and moist on the inside. We thought they would be buffalo style but it was served with a side of ketchup. I'd get it again.
I liked the friendly vibe here. I'd definitely come here again. The only bad part is the parking lot sucks and it's small.
Oh how we love you Home Bar & Grill. My update is for folks looking for fabulous food on the lighter side because there is a lot of attention focused on Home's heavier dishes like the tater tot nachos, fried rice, steaks, etc etc.
They have the most incredible salad on the island. The Home salad is $9 and it's like an enormous mountain of greens with Japanese cucumbers and tomatoes and a balsamic vinaigrette. (In fact, I am eating it in my profile picture) Totally delicious and good for 2+ people.
The negitoro poke and seared sashimi (along with the Home salad) are our favs for when we want to go out but our diets' can't afford a giant loco moco bomb. Oooh, also the chilled tofu appetizer topped with fresh ginger and green onions and bonito...it's sooo good!
Anyway, that's my two cents for the folks wanting to try Home without wrecking their diets. If you're totes not concerned about your calorie count, definitely get the pork chops and fried noodles because those are the bomb, y'all. ;)
Why are all the tables reserved all the time?!
We got there at 4:30pm. Â Out of all the tables on the floor, there were 2 that were not marked with "reserved" signs. Â We stayed till 7pm and the "reserved" tables remained empty the entire time! Â I saw the waitresses turn away a couple parties because they didn't have any available tables which seems ridiculous since half the place is empty.
They should write the time the table is reserved from so at least the party that wanted a table at 5pm could drink for 2 hours and the bar could've made money for those 2 hours, plus not leave a bad impression on their other customers.
This place has changed...it's not as friendly and inviting like before. Â The food is still good, but I'd rather go somewhere I feel comfortable and not have to make a reservation when I feel like having a beer.
Overall enjoyed my experience at Home Bar. In the past I've been deterred by the parking situation, but I finally went this weekend after having heard many good reviews. I went at 4 pm on a Friday and was able to get one of the last self-park spots in the front. How I was able to back into that spot at such an awkward angle is a mystery to me but was glad for the spot nonetheless. Happy hour til 8 pm on Fridays gets you a dollar off most drinks. I ordered vodka soda and did think it was a bit watered down, but it's rare for me to find a bar that doesn't do that so wasn't a deal breaker. Wait staff were very friendly and attentive.
As for the food, the tater tot nachos have gotten rave reviews. I did like them, but they weren't my personal favorite. On the up side, the tater tots were cooked to perfection (not soggy or overdone), and the toppings were good. Personally, though, I really like to have the crunch of a chip in my nachos. I feel like it's an essential characteristic of nachos, and the tater tots, while tasty, just don't have that crunch factor. They're still good - I just prefer some of the other dishes better. I also had the seared ahi (very good) and kim chee fried rice. I thought the fried rice was awesome. Delicious flavor - definitely top notch. Would recommend over the taters.
Came here based off of the reviews, and was in the area after a day of shopping at the ala moana mall. Imma go through each dish that I ordered:
TATER TOT NACHOS: a simple yet hearty little dish that is surprisingly delicious. Unlike regular nachos, the use of tater tots makes each bite crunchy, and takes a while longer to get soggy. Smothered in nacho cheese, sour cream, black olives, jalapeños and bacon, this is something worth clogging your arteries with when visiting.
SEARED AHI SASHIMI: I'm a big sashimi fan, and kind of a snob when it comes to raw fish. The seasoning was a little salty foe my personal taste, but overall it was a great dish. The ahi itself melts in your mouth like butter, and the seared crispiness on the outside complimented the delicate flavor of the fish. Great dish number 2.
KABLI FRIED NOODLES: It may not look like much, but that plate is heavy. The KBBQ was pretty good, little tough compared to what I have had in the past at home. The noodles were deliciously greasy, seasoned well with the vegetables it was fried with. It was surprisingly on the saltier side but in a good way if balanced with the right beverage.
These were the dishes that were completely demolished by myself and my bf. There was one more dish that we ordered that was an utter and horrible disappointment, the GARLIC FRENCH FRIES. Do not be fooled by the enticing description on the menu. The fries come out covered in Kraft powdered parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. The only neat twist was that the fries came with pepperonis. But that's it. DO NOT ORDER UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED.
Overall, this is a little spot that i would love to come visit again the next time i am on Oahu. Hope this helps!
The food, lighting, staff...the entire ambience of the place is great! I suggest, if you're going with friends, to go during happy hour to take advantage of the specials. As happy hour comes to an end, the latenight crowd starts to come and seating isn't as available.
The food menu has great appetizers such as the negitoro, seared ahi, tater tot nachos, kalbi fried noodles, steak, garlic french fries. If you like something to munch on while enjoying your favorite draft beers or shots, the appetizers go hand in hand.
The staff is very friendly and after just a few visits, we are recognized and continue to get great service.
The only negative is the parking. The parking lot stalls next door is very tight. I usually do the $5 valet parking because I rather not deal with the stress of parking.
If you're going to Homebar and Grill, be sure to give me an invite because I'm there...hahaha!
For Service , Food and Decent Drinks Home Bar is the place to be.
The Ahi dishes are amazing along with the House special Tater Tot Nachos.
Surprisingly the Salads are super fresh and large. Who would have thought to go to a Bar for a great Salad?
Parking can be tough but it worth the effort.
My hub and close friends took me out to dinner as an early graduation celebration. Still hungry after leaving that place, we decided to find somewhere else to satiate our appetites. Where to go when unsatisfied from "dinner" at another place? Why, Home Bar of course. OF COURSE.
We ordered:
Tater tot nachos - So simple but fricken amazing. Reminded me of school cafeteria tater tots but much more tastier and topped with the works (cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, olives, bacon bits?). Yum. I definitely would've eaten all my tater tots in school had they been made like these, lol.
Garlic chicken - One of the better garlic chicken I've tasted. Not too bready either, which was a plus as well.
Ribeye steak - It came to the table hot and still sizzling, the smoke and aroma catching everyone else's attention as the server carried it to our table. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. I felt like we pretty much inhaled it once it touched the table... No shame here.
Our server was on it; recommending her food/drink faves, bringing us our food and drink orders fairly quickly. The portions were generous and fed the 4 of us. My favorite [MUST HAVE] drink of the night was the strawberry marshmallow pinnacle... I must've had 5. Or 6... I kind of lost count. Not overly sweet but delicious. They need to make this drink in a big-gulp size.
We left there with our tummies happy and full. Till next time, Home Bar. :)
This establishment came highly recommended by all my Hawaii friends, so I had to try it. Parking wasn't easy, but I think that's pretty standard for Honolulu and surrounding areas known as "Town." Luckily, we found a spot next to their rear entrance literally right before they set up their $5 valet stand (this was around 5pm). The setting is just your regular bar with a nice open space. We were able to grab a seat right away and approached immediately.
Because Chris "The Situation" Tai Wanted It Tater "Nachos": Hysterically-named tater tot nachos that have everyone raving. First of all, who doesn't like tots? Rhetorical question, but we know the answer. They were fried well enough to handle the toppings, which I appreciate A LOT (I hate soggy chips/fries in my nachos). The toppings weren't spectacular though. Great combination of things, loved the generous portion of freshly-chopped green onions, sour cream, cheese, bacon pieces, and pickled jalapeño slices. Didn't care for the black olives or the (most likely Tostitos) salsa - would have been WAY better with fresh salsa or pico de gallo.
B's Negi Toro: Large chucks of raw toro (Bluefin tuna belly) served with chopped negi (traditionally Welsh onions similar to leeks) in a soy sauce and wasabi oil. The tuna was delicious and I seriously can't get enough fresh, raw fish when I'm in Hawaii. The sauce though, meh, I'm not a fan.
Togarashi Spiced Chicken Wings: Togarashi, for those of you that don't know, is a type of Japanese chili pepper. Very mild in flavor and it's available at Japanese restaurants to add to your ramen, miscellaneous broths, or everything else really. Anyway, it added a wonderful flavor to the fresh, delicious chicken. Not something I'd be able to come by in Vegas, so it was nice to have something different.
Kalbi Fried Noodles: The kalbi had a good marinated flavor and was cooked well, the usual. The fried noodles had your usual suspects, char siu (Chinese BBQ pork), shredded cabbage, julienned carrots, onions, topped with fresh green onions. It was yummy and reminded of when I was young, eating fried noodles from the "Manapua Man" truck. That type of nostalgia is hard to come by.
Parmesan Truffle Fries: Truffle oil, grated parmesan, parsley. It was served on crinkle cut fries with a side of garlic aioli. Pretty standard. Good, but nothing amazing. I don't care for fries out of the freezer (eateries serving handcut fries have ruined me forever!) and I didn't like the aioli. It did come with crunchy (fried) thinly-sliced pepperoni and that was interesting.
The service was amazing. Before I could even blink, my glass was being filled with water - even when it wasn't empty! Everyone was really friendly and attentive. The portions are extremely generous which is always a plus! The dishes didn't wow me, but they were certainly tasty. If I lived here, I would probably come back for the laid back atmosphere and value. Also, the name is very appropriate because I feel like I'm at "home" when eating these local favorites.
Local kine upscale sports bar. Â Small parking lot in front evening $5 Valet parking in rear. Big food, good looking staff and local atmosphere. Â Great place to watch sports with group of friends and grind. Â Not your typical bar food, they have sushi, sashimi, kimchi fried rice, garlic edamame, tater tot nachos.. pork chops, tofu, one pound steaks. Â Big food, sports with sound and cold beer. Â Great burger. Â Friendly professional staff. Â Happy Hour til 8.
Review Source:This is what I would call our pau hana first choice. It's nothing fancy, inside and out but the food is delicious. Â I recommend that you get there early because this place can get super busy. Â Really! Â On Fridays it's standing room only.
My girlfriend from California wanted to try local food and taking her here was a no-brainer! Â We ordered our favorite dishes including Kalbi Fried Noodles, House Salad, seared ahi, and fried pepperoni chips with truffle sauce. the fried chicken wings have a flavor combo of salty, spicy with a touch of sweet. YUMMY! Â Don't forget the happy hour drinks. the only thing that we sometimes wish for is a hot musubi to eat with all of the delicious food.
Overall, service is good. Â It can be a little slow as the evening picks up because its so crowded. Â The servers have great teamwork, are friendly and have great attitudes. Kimmie is always attentive and friendly.
As for parking, you can attempt street parking. Â But we prefer not to waste time driving in circles. they offer valet parking or you can go right next door and park in the open pay lot.
At the end of the work week, we love to say that we're going "Home".
3 words... Tater Tot Nachos!!!! Â Whoever drummed that up is a genius!!! Â Who doesn't love tater tots! Takes me back to my school lunch days (public school people!!!!). Â But with cheese and sour cream and olives, and all kinds of goodness - soooo good! Â In fact, all of the food here was fantastic - the negi toro poke, kim chee fried rice, pork chops, steak, I can go on and on! Â
Low key place. No frills, just great food. Â But get here early otherwise, you will not get a table. Â Great place to just hang with friends, and eat.
Got a burger and fries to go (small kids with jet lag waiting at the hotel), but I wish I had time to stick around. Â Service was awesome. Â Parking is next door, so there's no reason to get valet parking.
Not sure if it was just that day or not, but the waitresses were all very attractive nikkei and happa. Â Even the guy working security was friendly.
Review round two: hubby and I came back to this place on our final night of our honeymoon....we had randomly run into one of the owners of this place earlier in the day who is just the sweetest and most fun guy to hang with. We had the kimchee fried rice and tater tot nachos, along with our favs, ahi sashimi and Kalbi noodles....yes, that was way too much food and yes, it was absolutely amazing. I really hate kimchee, but this fried rice was solid-we got it extra spicy and it was just perfect! Ham, spam, and Portuguese sausage mixed with eggs and some veggies without an overpowering kimchee aftertaste...the tator tot nachos were seriously some good comfort food....crispy tater tots covered with nacho cheese, salsa, sour cream, olives and jalapeños. Uh hello? Amazing??
If we lived here, we would be here every weekend and we highly recommend that you try this place-we guarantee you'll come back for more!
Local sports/dive bar serving basic comfort food in very large portions. Â Each dish could easily feed 3-4 hungry people. Â If you're into gut busting, high calorie and intestine blocking type food, this place is da bomb. Â Enjoy eating yourself to a slow death, is there any other way to die???
Gotta order the tater tot nachos, it is da bomb.
Small parking lot, valet parking at night, sketchy neighborhood
Night gets super busy & noisy, go in the afternoon with your best buds, chill and watch the upcoming NBA playoffs games on tv
This is a sports bar with superb food.
Best meal I had on this Hawaiian trip. All three items I had were 5 star.
I had bookmarked this before my trip, but had forgot about it. When my cousin who has lived on the island since birth brought me here, I saw that I had it bookmarked and was like "Ah Damn" knowing it was gonna be good.
The place was super busy on Saturday night, took valet 15 minutes just to get to our car the parking in the area was so full. No tables, but was able to get a spot at the bar.
Had these items:
Chilled Tofu
Ahi Poke
Wafu Steak
The chilled tofu had a nice light shoyu with ginger and onions and cold soft tofu that went well together. This was a good starter before the other two dishes.
Ahi Poke was fresh with no tough pieces. So good.
The Wafu Steak was the star of the show. Deep, rich beef flavor loaded with finely shredded daikon on top. The steak has a decent amount of fat that adds a lot of flavor. There are also mushroom that you run through the juice at the bottom of the plate. So damn good. If I wasn't full at this point I would have ordered a second steak.
If I had to pick just one item, it would be the Wafu steak.
Along with the superb food is a great price. 5 Stars all around.
Home Bar doesn't have what I'd call a real high-brow look, feel, or ambiance. In fact, I was scared to enter this place for probably a year because, from the outside, it looks like a place you'd either get shot, or witness a crime scene go down.
I pushed past my fears at the insistence of many who came before me, and lo and behold, came to realize that, while *borderline* run-down inside, it wasn't the disheveled den of danger and darkness my imagination had led me to picture.
Since then, I've probably eaten there about 10 times, usually at my husband or daughter's request. The waitresses are a bevy of skinny girls in short shorts that keep the attention of the menfolk as they ply them with happy hour-priced $4 beers. (I'd do the same if I were them; no judgment here!)
The food is top-notch, local-style favorites, with some creative fusion-type items and rotating specials. Kim chee fried rice, garlic chicken, sashimi with jalapenos and saimin are my favorites here. My husband is in love with the bleu cheese burger and will make any excuse to go get one.
While a better shade of paint and taking off the deeply-dark tinted front windows would liven up the facade, I doubt they care about improving the curb appeal, because as-is, it's usually pretty hoppin' inside and the valet is always full. Maybe they do it to keep it a place for those "in the know" who feel like they've got a place to call "Home."
A bar is a bar and it doesn't matter if this one is located on the island of Paradise.
It was a recommendation from a friend that knows the owner (later we found that a lot people know the owner). I don't know why but we had this idea that it would be a fancier looking place. Imagine our surprise when we pulled up to a shading looking exterior.
Inside was bright, but the crowd is a random mix of people that you would not be surprised to see at a bar. We ordered from the menu and the food was slightly better than the average bar food but it didn't live up to our imagined hype. The taste that I remembered the most was the tuna poke salad which was way too salty. Our server was kind enough give us another one but the salt level didn't change that much. The one drink that I ordered was pretty good.
I will note that the service was extremely friendly and attentive.
Overall it's just a bar, the type where you dragged your friends to play a couple rounds of pool and just chill.
Just a bar...any questions?
I've been meaning to try out this seemingly famous bar. Â The location kinda sucks and the parking lot is small. There is a paid lot right next door, but it's not worth paying for parking to go drinking at an average bar.
The interior is spacious with plenty of booths with a relaxed atmosphere. Â The crowd here is on the older side. 30-40 years old I'd guess. Â
I've tried the tatters, steak, kalbi with fried noodles, kimchee fried rice, saimin, and garlic chicken. I came here with a big party, so luckily I was able to try a lot of things. I liked the garlic chicken, kalbi, and the kimchee fried rice. Â Nacho tatters are a nice out of the box idea, but it isn't that great. Â Yelpers be hyping those tatterz up.
I probably wouldn't come back here because there are better bars in much better locations.
In the tune of "Home on the Range"
Oh, give me a home where where all the locals roam
Where they have darts that you can play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the food is grindz everyday
Home, Home Bar and Grill
Where the locals head out to play
Where seldom is heard, laughter and word
And service is awesome all day
Where do you go at night where the feelings just right
With the staff are all rockstars
Have I stood there amazed, sizzling platters a blaze
Their food exceeds that of ours
Home, Home Bar and Grill
Where my troubles all go away
Where seldom is heard, this is YELP referred
Where you can eat and drink all day
This place has all my favorite components of a good bar:
+Reasonably priced beers (extra + for blue moon on tap w/ orange slices)
+Delicious, reasonably priced pupus
+Dart boards
+Friendly service
+Casual, local feel
And the one thing that really irks me about Honolulu:
-Terrible parking
The wow factor that initially drew me to coming here was the FOOD. Â I heard the chef is excellent, and that he used to be the chef at Kanpai's (one of my formerly favorite bars).
I've only come here about 3 times so far, and have tried:
Tater tot nachos - http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
As everyone else says, definitely a must-try! Â Such an innovative idea, and so so good! Â I love tater tots, I love nachos, put them together = best of both worlds DELICIOUS!
Fried rice
Packed with flavor! Â I don't even like Spam and was tricked into eating it from this dish....
Garlic chicken & Truffle fries
Both pretty good and comes with a lot for what you pay for. Â Major wins in my book for bigger portions, cuz when I drink, I need to eattttt!!
The menu is actually pretty sizable but my general takeaway was that there were a lot of good options for reasonably priced delicious bar food. Â Win!
I have to take off a star due to parking (I'm sorry, parking is a huge issue for me, especially coming from Maui where there's an abundance). Â Unfortunately, I don't come here as often as I would, because of the limited parking. Â It can also get really busy at night, even on weekdays, which can make getting a table/dart board difficult.
Still, one of my faves :).
