My wife and I love Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant. Â We've never been disappointed with our meals and the couple that run the restaurant are friendly and kind. Â We order carry-out and the food is always ready on time. Â Give Hong Kong a shot if you're looking for good Chinese food in Rogers Park!
Review Source:Mildly food poison me once: Shame on you.
Mildly food poison me twice: Shame on me.
The food is average American Chinese; the first time everything was a little dry, and the second time my beef chop suey was pretty greasy and rubbery.
I wouldn't say they gave me full-on out-for-two-days food poisoning, but I did feel ill and light-headed and my body didn't keep the food in me for very long. Enough for me to not have any plans on returning.
I've eaten here twice and both meals were take out. The first meal I had was Sweet and Sour Chicken Dinner combo. The sweet and sour chicken had the sauce poured on it already which in my opinion makes it soggy by the time you get home. Also staplilng the lid down does the same thing b/c it traps all the steam in and makes the dish soggy. The taste was good though. Here's what I really like about Hong Kong. Â The dinner combo comes with Chicken fried rice, unless you get a Lo Mein dish. 1 egg roll, 2 fried chicken wings and 1 crab rangoon... and it's $5.25 to $6.45 and it's tons of food. Definitely enough for 2 or 2.5 meals. For the price it can't be beat!
My second meal was Sesame Chicken and it was okay. I probably won't order that again. It was drowning in sauce and soggy. However, my roomie got the Generals chicken and it was delish. I will def order it the next time I go. A friend ordered the Egg Fo Young and he loved it.
It's not the best Chinese food I've had but it's definitely not the worst.
Again, for the price and all the food you get it can't be beat..
I guess next time I get the S and S chicken I'll ask for the sauce on the SIDE!
PS: You can get half a dozen Almond Cookies for 1.00 and their good.
