We were here this past Friday and lemme just say it was great! We got some drinks at the bar and then did the boat ride which is $10 on a pontoon boat and does a loop on the river. It was a gorgeous night and so glad we did that. Drinks were good, strong and not too expensive considering, we paid $7 each for drinks so I felt it was a good deal, they had bar food and free popcorn too! would definitely go there again
Review Source:Wait...I HAVEN'T written a review for THE Hot Club yet? What the...
I love me some Hot Club. I feel like everyone I know in Providence just seems to congregate here. It's always one of the first bars I suggest, much to the chagrin of my friends. But, there's a rockin' deck, cheap beer, and, I've been told, a pretty decent burger (I have yet to try it).
The only drawbacks are the teeny bathroom, it's a biatch to park (in this whole area...it's not just HC) and on a busy night it's impossible to get a drink at the bar.
Anyway, it's good clean (?) fun for all ages!
I think my only complaint about Hot Club? The number of people whining about lack of parking, small bathrooms, and the wait staff, both on Yelp and in the bar. Â
To address your concerns:
Parking in Providence sucks everywhere, get over it. Â
Stop doing your hair and makeup in the bathroom: no one here really cares what you look like, so stop being vain and get out. Â The bathrooms only seem small because you're taking up so much room with your giant hair. Â Get out.
The wait staff is surly? Â Sorry, have you met anyone in Rhode Island? Everyone here is surly. Â Yes, you are too, and so is your group of friends. Â True story.
The decks are great, the free popcorn is great, the food isn't bad, and beers are cheap. Â But for real, all the bitching about the bartenders, parking, and bathrooms? Just don't go there anymore. Â More room for the rest of us.
Ya know, I'm not even sure where to begin with Hot Club. Â It is a funky bar that's lined up in rows - as in, it's not one big building with a central bar and tables scattered around. Â When you walk in, there's a small room that's a long row of tables and the popcorn guy (make friends with the popcorn guy - he's got yummy salty fresh popcorn for you), and at the end of the row are the bathrooms (by which I mean three stalls for ladies, squished in a room that's built for 2 stalls for ladies. Â It's a mess). Â Then there's another row that's less claustrophobic but still a tight fit, and a third row on the other side of the bar that's situated next to all the awesome windows that make up one whole wall of Hot Club. Â Finally, there's a row outside (but it's cordoned off with a chain link fence, so it looked more like a pen for animals, especially considering how many people were packed in out there).
I've never been to another place that felt so much like a bar people frequent to pick up a date. Â Happily, people of all ages were trying to do this, so if you're a college kid or a 50+ professional, you've got a chance of meeting someone here. Â Only problem is, once you meet 'em, you might have trouble holding an actual conversation because Hot Club is usually FULL of people. Â Lots of people!
Drinks are cheap and there's a $10 minimum for a tab. Â It's impossible to park at Hot Club but it's worth going so you can enjoy a view of the river and the wonderful summer breeze. Â Go early and plan to hang our for a long time.
Parking is tricky most of the time but usually not impossible, I always bring cash to pay at a lot ($10). Â The outdoor seating is the best - there is tons of space and a view of the waterfront. Â Good views indoors too with big windows. Â Typical bar service and options with fair prices. Â If you want to eat there the food is cheap and average bar food. Â I once left half of my chicken salad sandwich on the table while I went to the bathroom and someone tossed it out which made me a little sad but my husband didn't stop them so what can you do. Â I go for trivia on some Tuesday's and always have a good time but better when they actually start it on time (9 I believe). Â One of my favorite Providence bars.
Review Source:At first, I was intrigued by the location and waterfront view but after my first time there I swore I would never go back. Giving the place the benefit of the doubt, I've gone to hotclub a few more times and unless you're a regular its gonna take you atleast 20 minutes to get a beer. Not to mention the attitude and annoyance the bartenders shoot you when ordering a drink. God forbid you want to close out your card rather than start a tab. I've bartended for years and still til this day never understand how bartenders can be so rude to their customers!
Review Source:This place is a joke. Â lame music, lame people, exremely lame staff, Â we almost died tripping into the tiny gross bathroom/toilet stall (twice) why do we need a giant step right at the stall door?? Â
The doorman and owner whatever would not let my friend in because he had a temporary paper massachusetts ID. Â COMPLETELY legit ID, along with several other forms of ID with a picture to prove it. Â After explaining he had just moved back into the area, our car had just overheated down the street, and we just payed a machine $10 to park, and had more than one person recite his DOB, address, ect unprompted he still did not let him in. Â Oh did I mention he did not card anyone else in our party of 7 people? Â
I do not patronize an establishment with morons running the place, and our party of 7 Â was happy to leave and go to DUSK where its always a better time with ZERO hassle.....wont bother trying hot club anymore!
In late spring, summer and early fall, what's not to like about happy hour on the deck? Solid people watching. Some of the best city views. Sunset over the Electric Company. Hanging out on the water. Doesn't get a whole lot better.
Yes, parking is super tight. Carpooling, walking or biking can solve that.
Just an old reliable spot for a beer or two. Nothing fancy. I'll go again and again.
I have lived in R I for a long time and have been to the hot club more times than I can remember. Â While I understand that in the winter its slow and in the summer its very busy, you can't get a drink there no matter when it is. Â If you go to the front bar or the bar on the deck its not that bad, but of you are dumb enough to go to the main bar you are screwed. Â It doesn't matter if you are rich or the hottest chick, the bartenders work with their heads down and can only make one drink at a time! Â At least they don't discriminate, they give bad service to everyone. Â I know it sounds stupid but the next nice day, you will probably see me there,, i am sneaking in my own high life.
Review Source:Best location for a bar in the city - hands down. Take the boat ride to the EP yacht club if you have the chance.
The food is pretty bad, but I wasn't expecting better. Bartenders seem to control the digital jukebox and it is SUPER loud. Door guy is a little creepy and hit on one of  my friends to the point where she felt uncomfortable. Parking lot out front but it gets crowded early when it's nice out. The free popcorn is a cute idea, but a better idea would be qualified bartenders, or at least friendly ones. We get it - you're tired, it's hot back there, there are a lot of rude and  crappy customers, but if you hate your job where you need to openly complain about it and the owner out where customers can hear you, maybe you should go back to other place you Bartend at and just work there instead? Makes for an awkward evening, for sure.
Great view, good drink selection, just wish the bartenders would lose the bad attitude.
Hot Club is neither hot or a club. It is a cool little hole in the wall brick finish place that is right on the water in Providence. I have never had the food there but the drinks are very reasonably priced. They have karaoke and other events throughout the week. Its a good place to grab the drink.
I couldn't give it 4 stars because the few times I have went the bar service has been wicked slow. Last night it took me 10 minutes to get a drink. I feel like they never have enough bar tenders on for the amount of people there. Its not their fault but it is hard to find parking so prepare to walk from Wickenden St.
Spent nearly an hour here, mostly swatting the flies and fruit flies that ASSAULTED us the entire time.
Service was fine for the drinks that we ordered, but, in no way, would we order food from this establishment.
It was late October, so I trust that the summer season will bring improvement.
Amazing view, reasonably priced drinks, happy crowd, and free popcorn - what more could you want !?
The only thing that I want is more parking! Â It is a pain to find a spot. Â There are a bunch of $10 lots (who wants to pay that much for a a few drinks!?). Â Park off of Wickenden and walk two blocks and save yourself the money.
The Hot Club is a staple of any self-respecting Providencer's summer bar repertoire. Entire social circles instinctively flock here on hot summer nights (and afternoons).
Come for the dock and the view, stay because everyone you know from the city is there, too.
Don't bother with the food unless you really need it to soak up the booze, but enjoy the free popcorn!
I must say... this place is not what expected. I've always heard of people heading over to Hot Club and I always pictured a much different atmosphere. But I love it!
Right on the water, popcorn, friendly staff and great late night, chill out spot. I've been a handful of times since my discovering it wasn't a rave club and I find it relaxing.
I think of it as more of a summer spot though and can't see myself going in the winter much.
Check it out while the weathers still nice!
Alright. Gave this place another shot! Last time I came here, bar service was terribly slow. This time they were a lot better. Not super fast, but not as awful as last time. My first drink was Pinnacle Gummy with soda water... and I paid $7 for soda water. I tried to suck it down but I just couldn't anymore. I went back to the bar to a different bartender and apologized for being pushy. But I mean come on, it was my first drink! She was so nice about it and made me a brand new STRONG drink for free. Now that's customer service! KUDOS!
And please owners, get bigger bathrooms! Us ladies need some room!
This is my new favorite place! The first time some of my classmates told me about a place called "The Hot Club" down by Point Street, I assumed (partially because of the location and partially because of the name) that it was a place of ill repute similar to Fishco. What a surprise it was when I finally found out it was a relaxing waterfront restaurant and bar with no grinding adolescents in sight!
After thinking over my list of potential eating/studying spots for the day, I decided to come to the Hot Club, since it was the closest establishment to my starting location (Wickenden). I rode my bike a short distance to Water Street, which featured two restaurants (The Whiskey Republic and Lola's) on the way to my final destination. When I got there, the place was completely empty, so I took a seat on the right side of the bar and ordered a drink and some food before I started to work. The bartender was incredibly friendly, and for some reason decided not to charge me for either of my two non-alcoholic beverages or two of the toppings on my burger, which cut my bill approximately in half. The prices were already low and I was well-prepared to pay the full amount with a good tip, so I was astonished at the bartender's generosity. It got her a great tip and totally made my day.
I would definitely recommend this place as a study location over most others for a few reasons: 1) the great view of the water, boats, hurricane barrier and Manchester Street Power Station (smokestacks), 2) the relatively low volume of chatter over on the side of the bar, and 3) the opening time of 12pm.
I've lived in Providence for 8 years and still struggle to find a place to hang out that isn't full of newly minted 21 year olds.
I went to Hot Club with a few friends late on a Thursday night to get a few drinks and we had a great time. Prices were average, we were able to find seats and it was really nice to sit by the water since it happened to be one of the few cooler nights we have had this summer.
The crowd was mellow, we were able to hear each other talk and we really enjoyed ourselves. It may be different when all of the college students are back but for now, it's great!
p.s. did I mention the free popcorn?!
Great summer spot in Providence, nothing beats sitting on the water on a beautiful day or night.
A bit divey, yet the perfect place to come by if you just want to hang out and get away from it all. And hey can you really go wrong with free popcorn.
P.S. If you can't find a spot on the main deck head to the right side of the bar where there is outdoor side seating that isn't usually crowded.
Hot, sticky summer nights are meant to be spent at bars like this. Â It's a dive-y drinking establishment on the water. not a club (or at least not like any I've been before). Â Great views of the river and the Providence skyline to take in while you sip a cold beer and try to ignore the gaggle of college chicks doing shots of well tequila next to you. Â
Bartenders are friendly enough and the drink prices are about your average PVD prices. Â Get there early to reserve a spot on the deck, or you may be stuck standing around with your beverage. Â
It's not my go-to bar, but it's a cool place to chill out at if I want a drink on a patio outdoors during the warm weather season. Â During the colder months, if I want a nice view of the water with out braving the wind chill, I'll take a seat at one of the tables next to the big windows.
I'd like to start by saying that I love the Hot Club. Â I go there all the time, and have been for 10 years. This review is about a bartender there that doesn't deserve to be behind a bar. Anywhere.
Her name is Steph.
I was at the HC with my girlfriend the other day, and she ordered a drink off the "drink menu". I continued to look at the drink menu. My friend's drink was made. I ordered a tequila sunrise since I saw it on the menu. It says Petron on the menu. She made it with well tequila. No big deal. I asked if she could make it with Patron, and apologized even though it wasn't completely either of our faults. My girlfriend and I go outside.
It was a little hot outside so we went and sat back inside by the open windows. A guy sitting at the bar asked her why there was a dead tequila sunrise sitting there and she went on to tell this whole story about how my girlfriend is a dumb bitch because she needed to look at the menu for a drink that had 3 ingredients in it. Also that she ordered one drink and then changed her mind - which never happened. Then she starts getting to me and the tequila sunrise and how I don't know how to order a drink.
I had looked at the menu. I read "Tequila Sunrise - Patron Silver, orange juice, granadine." I ordered the drink. She made it wrong.
Finally my girlfriend turned around and said, "First of all you are lying." I turned around and yelled, "We're sitting right here!" The bartender said, "Oh, I was just telling them why there was a tequila.."
"You got a real messed* up way of saying it."
We are both livid about this, and find this completely unacceptable behavior. Neither of us gave her any reason to speak about us like that. If we had gone in there and acted like jerks that would be once thing. We never have problems, and we go out a LOT.
She was literally yelling at the bar to this kid and completely berating us while we were sitting right there. Â
I've been going there for over 10 years, and never ran int anyone this rude before including the patrons. I've never met a bartender that was as rude as this. Ever.

Oh Hot club. May Poseidon always grace his blue vein of life bearing water that caresses the shores of this sacred ground.
Hot Club is great. It's a bar on the water. It's not hot at all, and it isn't a club. It's an establishment that has 3 bars inside which offer some of the most refreshing libations to quiet the tongue, and enrich the spirit.
Though service is pretty slow 80% of the time, you really can't get over the atmosphere of being on the water in a bustling throng of people. $10 dollars for a cruise around the harbor with your drink if you so choose too.
I recommend making use of the bar out on the deck area, usually the newbies never wander that far and find the short line here.
Over all I give this establishment 4 stars, and if they hired another bartender or two for busy nights it could be a five. Enjoy your summer here, and may the sun always kiss your brow as you sip on the dock of Hot Club.
There aren't many things I enjoy more in life than sitting on the deck at The Hot Club on a sunny day, with an ice cold drink in hand. People watching, obviously. The mix of folks mingling at The Hot Club never fails to entertain me!
I love The Hot Club for the view, for the grilled saugies, for the cold 'Gansetts, for the friends that you inevitably run into, and for the sun-kissed look you go home with after an afternoon spent here. A totally unique spot in Prov that shouldn't be missed!
If you have a nice day and love people-watching, you need to come to the Hot Club at least once.
My long-lost-ex used to live across the street from this place and we frequented it whenever I needed to quench my thirst for vodka and entertainment.
A little pricey from what I was expecting, but, as I always say, "don't go out if you can't pay the bill".
Sometimes is crowded with Brown and RISD students, but I usually just swallow hard and look out at the water, whether I'm inside or on their patio.
Just the right amount of crusty nautical sleaze. Â Where hipsters, bikers and yuppies can meet to enjoy the sea breeze and scenic industrial view that is the Providence waterway. Â If you don't have tats, you might be in the wrong place.
The drinks - standard fare. Â Beers, decently strong mixed drinks. Â It just seems they never have the little dock patio bar open when you need it. Â
Yes, there is free popcorn, and when you've been laying in the sun soaking up booze all day, it is well-deserved. Â However, this is your standard semi-stale, sitting out in the popper for hours, popcorn. Â Why would you expect any different? Â This place is clearly not about food. Â It's about walking down in your flippy floppy's, forgetting your troubles, and trying to have a Dude-like moment.
Parking and then finding seating are a disaster when the sun is shining, you really have to commit to making it an early drinking day. Â And then cling to that table and chairs for all it's worth.
My favorite bar in Providence. Excellent location, strong drinks, and free popcorn!
I love Monday night karaoke. It's got a decent crowd, but it's never too packed. Always a fun time.
The weekends get much more packed, especially in the summer months. The view is beautiful and you won't want to leave the patio.
It's been about a year and a half that I've been frequenting Hot Club. . . and I love it! Â Most times, it is first and foremost in my mind when thinking of places to relax and grab a drink with good friends. Â No matter the season or occasion, Hot Club can be host to a multitude of situations. Â To name a few. . . . dates, Yelp meetups!, happy hours, birthdays, late nights, chilling with friends, winter warmup stations, the list goes on.
Now that spring has sprung, the large deck with its extensive seating and outdoor bar has been calling my name. Â My mind drifts to warm breezes, bare arms and legs soaking up the sun's rays, water lapping against the docks, a cold beer in hand, and relaxing while eventually watching a beautiful sunset with gorgeous views of the Providence skyline. Â I prefer going before the sunsets this time of year. . . the bar and deck can get a bit crowded as the night progresses.
Thinking back to the winter months, though it may be surprising to some, Hot Club is quite cozy and enjoyable. Â The windows are sealed, the heat is on, and white Christmas lights are hung all about. Â It's never crowded and its an enjoyable respite from the biting New England cold. Â
No matter the time of year, Hot Club serves a good drink. Â There's always deals on PBRs and 'Gansetts (making it really easy to buy a round for the group!). . . mixed drinks are reasonable. Â They have a small kitchen, and while I've never ordered from there, friends who have seem to love it! Â
My only gripe? Â The bathroom is tiny! Â On a busy night it makes it very difficult to use. Â I'd appreciate a bigger mirror in there as well instead of one with beer logos all over it.
When I was under drinking age and I heard my dad and sister refer to the mysterious 'Hot Club', I thought it was some kind of dimly lit, sexy place with scantily clad sexy people serving sexy drinks. Given the actual personalities of my sister and father, I should have known better. Non sequitor: it was through a Hot Club bartender that I found out that my father had his first post-divorce girlfriend.
Despite its name and the narrative I created to go along with it, the Hot Club is a pretty divey bar with a first-class location. I love the view of the hurricane barrier, the trio of smokestacks is totally aesthetically pleasing, and the angle that the sun sets over the city is gorgeous from the Hot Club deck. Parking can be a pain in the butt, but if you park off Wickendon Street the walk isn't long. It's totally worth it to not circle the block sixty time in order to expedite your arrival on the best deck in the city.
This place has a happy hour like none other - especially on those first Fridays of spring when the sun is strong and cabin fever has driven people outside in hoards. Bikers, professional types, blue collars, white collars - all rubbing elbows while enjoying cold beer, free popcorn, and the bounty of heavy-handed bartenders. If one is inclined to smoking, you can even do that on the deck without being ostracized for your dirty habit!
Then, later in the day, as the sun is sinking lower into the horizon, a shift in clientele occurs. All the happy hour peeps have stumbled out in search of food and the nighttime peeps start to filter in - tighter clothes, heavier fragrances, higher expectations. Although the outdoor happy hour is its best feature, the Hot Club is also a great place to pre-game before going out to more expensive spots around the city.
Best bar in Rhode Island - hands down. If you read my other reviews or my profile you will see that there is nothing I love more than a dive bar. No DJ, no dancefloor, no drunk 18 year old girls bumping into you drunk off their first beer... you are at peace here. This bar has probably the best views of the city which were made even  better with the addition of the new I-way bridge. In the summer you will find people from all walks of life congregating outside on the deck with cheep beers and baskets of free popcorn. There are two bars, one inside and one out, so the wait for a drink is never long. This bar was once voted best pick-up scene, and I believe it. This is where you go when you don't want to be seen meeting that guy/girl that your friends shouldn't know about. Its dark and private.
The parking is a little awkward now that there is the under the highway lot. I wouldn't recommend you walk to/from the lot alone if you are female. The ground is littered with broken glass and used condoms.
A true dive and never pretending to be something its not, the Hot Club is always a damn good time.
