A truly authentic Chicago hot dog stand with great prices and way above-average fries. I placed a complex delivery order via Grub-Hub, and they got all the picky details on various condiments 100% correct. The weekly special Italian beef was sopping wet with deliciousness, and a crazy great value at $3.99 with fries. Driver was 1/2 hour early, I am done eating and writing this review; the delivery time promised just arrived. Dogs, chili and gyros are all good, standard Chi-fare. Haven't tried the burgers or Mexican options. . . yet. Not trendy, per se, I think they chose an appropriate name; Hot Rod is a timeless classic.

Great fries, crazy paintings, Super Pac-Man, and outdoor seating. I give five stars because this place is a notch above all the other standard hot dog stands in Chicago.

One of my fav eat and go joints in West Ridge. I be in the neighborhood alot so this is one of my go to spots. The pizza is not gourmet by any means, but they definitely have their own style of pie. Its very good btw. The fries are probably the best in the area. Wayy better than Five Guys fries. Lovely atmosphere and the owner is hella cool. Go there and try it out. Peace out!

This place is alright, it serves a variety of food with mediocre taste.

Basically its good, but you will have had better somewhere else.

I do love their Gorditas though, not what you would expect from this place, but its sooo delicious!

Their mexican rice is terrible, fries are just alright, tacos are kind of dry, quesadillas are too tiny for the price, topings on the hot dogs are scarce, grilled ham and cheese sandwhich yummy but really greasy . . .

bottom line, i'll probably eat here again, but i'll be hungover.

Fries are delish. Right there with Suzies off of Montrose (see my review of them).
Friendly staff, and they will bring your food outside if you choose to eat curbside.  Hot dog, mmmmm.  Fries, did I mention that they are delish?  They were so good I wanted a fry IV placed right there so I could enjoy them all day long.
It looked and sounded like the couple of people inside were regulars because of jaunting, laughter, and indentations in the seats they were in.

Love the dinky hot dog joints, greasy spoons as my father would say.
Speaking of greasy spoons, will Demon Dogs ever come back?  NO

At least there is the Hot Rod Grill.

I generally love this place.  They have a really good and really cheap Gyro.  LOVE THEM.

However, things have changed there recently.
Where once we used to be so amazed by the large fries -- now for the same exact price, we only get half the fries.  Now, the large fries were indeed huge.  But we'd come to expect that.  And for them to suddenly change the portion size??  Not cool.  (Typically it's a larger to-go container, now it's one that might ONLY fit a hot dog...)  .. Actually, it's less than half of what we'd normally get for a large.

And that's just not cool.  And while I love their Gyros... I'm going to be going elsewhere because the deal just isn't there any more.

I was in the neighborhood and hungry. Given how much I love these mom and pop shops, Hot Rod Grill was an easy decision. Everything was going well, smiling service, descent prices, and a menu that makes my inner fatty squeal with delight. Not only can you order your classic American items but Mexican as well. Plus they also serve breakfast, opening at 7am and close at 10pm.

So what went wrong?! I was starving and ordered the one thing that was super fast to make and to be honest is a special treat for me, since I don't eat it very often... a simple hot dog (everything no relish) and fries. At only $2.50 it is a steal or so I thought. What is worse is that I watched the whole tragedy occur, powerless to speak up due to my stomach hunger taking control of my vocal cords. I watched as this person put some fries into the fryer and go into a small plastic container to pull out a hot dog to prepare. At first I was like "so their sitting in warm water and they don't grill them before giving to the customer, so be it." She finished adding the condiments and then lifts out the basket of fries. WHAT!?! Having worked in a kitchen early in my life I know there is NO WAY those fries are done it's been maybe a minute and I don't even think that. She salts grabs a handful and tries to stuff them in with my hot dog. All I think is that my whole meal is ruined due to undercooked fries and my stomach's brain is thinking "it will be fine I'm sure their done and to be honest we're eating it anyways. HUNGRY!!" She starts to wrap it all up and fries are falling out because she is having a hard time. My stomach is screaming at almost willing to jump the counter to help. I get my food and go.

At home I unveil what can only be disappointment to find that some were actually cooked and some I mean like 25% but you know what? My stomach at them all anyways, slightly uncooked fries won't kill m... eh

GREAT american mixture. We got tacos, a gyro, cheeseburger, and fries. The fries are AMAZING!! Cheeseburger was right off the grill. Steak tacos were pretty good for a "hole-in-the-wall-spot". Gyro was just O.K. Very friendly, super fast, and only $20 bucks for everything--can't go wrong for junky food!! Owner was there-daughter was working behind counter. Love the family owned atmosphere.. will return to get Nacho's :0

Ok place to stop in for a beef sandwich if your're in this part of town and you've already passed Max's beef down the street .
