Hot Woks Cool Sushi

Ahhhhhhhmmmaaaazzzziiiinnnngggg! Mega Vega roll.

My go-to sushi place!  I've gone here more than once after running around Mich Ave (the art institute is right across the street). It's the perfect place to pop into after a long day, have a saki or three and relax. Their prices are very reasonable  (!) for BIG rolls which always gets good ratings in my book, and super tasty. The sake is decently priced, could be cheaper, but that can be overlooked.

The last time I was there I had the mega vega... omg, surprisingly delicious for a veggie roll.  I also had the rainbow which was good as well.

Definitely recommend this place for a late lunch after being downtown all day.  Charming, good prices and yum sushi.

I met up with a party of eight for dinner here tonight. We were seated immediately because we had reservations; the place was hopping with people at 6 PM, which I took as a good sign.

I decided on the pad thai with tofu and, boy, was it good! This may possibly be the best pad thai I have ever tasted, which is definitely not what I expected from an Asian fusion restaurant like this one. The tofu was cooked really well; it was substantial and flavorful and firm. Toppings (carrots, peanuts) were on the side, so I spread them on top. Really, this dish was mouth-watering and just the right amount of sweet and savory. The other pad thai dishes I have had in the past seem flavorless in comparison, which is a feat considering this one was not spicy at all.

Our waiter stopped by to bring water, to take orders, to bring food, to refill waters, to take away plates, and to bring checks--perfect. I dislike it when staff are overly attentive because it detracts from the dining experience for me, which is visiting with friends. Something small that irked me a little was that my plate was never taken away even though we stayed a while after we were done eating. Two people got their leftovers to go but one of my companions and I declined. As delicious as my pad thai was, there was not enough left to justify leftovers; my friend, on the other hand, only ate a quarter of her noodle dish because it was "meh." The waiter asked us twice if we wanted the rest of our food to go. Everyone else completely cleared their plates, so maybe they kept expecting/wishing we would finish off our plates, too. In any case, it does not really matter; I just found it a little odd. And I spent way too much time talking about it considering how much I enjoyed my meal.

Overall, I was very impressed with my pad thai and I plan to return to try out the sushi!
