Recently stayed downtown overnight and needed to grab a bite to eat. I chose this place because it happened to be open while most places were about to stop serving food at the hour I was looking to eat. I ordered my pizza online and was within 10 min walk so I decided to pick it up. Once I was able to sit down and eat my pizza I found out it looked better than it actually was. I guess someone was to lazy to actually push the pizza cutter down hard enough to actually slice the pizza because I had to tear it apart the entire time which became very annoying. It also seemed a little undercooked for my taste. If it were to be cooked for another 10 min it probably would have been perfect.
I'll be back again if I have to, but I wouldn't count on it.
So, I was contacted by an owner a couple weeks ago & she said they'd changed owners a while back & could she send me a free pizza coupon to try them again. Of course I said yes. The fact she was going through reviews even from 2 years ago was cool. Anyway, I get the coupon & it's for a free 1 topping large pizza, an order of sticks, & 2 drinks- their "Deal" as they call it.. $17 on the house. Pretty awesome. I ordered the old school crust w/ red sauce & shrooms- my standard basic pizza so I can surmise what's going on there. It arrives & yeah, it was good-better than last time, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I'll order from there again because I want to try the pesto mambo pizza & want to try their alfredo sauce. So, back to the one I ordered: Thinnish, chewy dough..not bad, sauce was tasty, infused w/ oregano spiciness. The cheese was really sparse, as were the mushrooms, maybe 1/4 of a cup of veggies, but all in all, it had a nice mouthfeel & I really enjoyed the sauce. I also previously got it downtown, but got delivery from Broad Ripple this time. I still think it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but I appreciate the owner reaching out to past reviewers. It earned them an extra star & a promise from me to try them again full price. :)
Review Source:I wish there was a button for "this review sucks" right by the funny/useful buttons. Â People who are rating Hot Box low aren't embracing it for what it is....the best 3am drunk food around. Â Their bread sticks are awesome and the pizza is pretty good too. Â Many times I've gotten off work at 315am and brought HBP home. Â Hits the spot every time. Â And since Giordanos doesn't deliver to Indy at 3am, I'm more than happy to eat it.
Review Source:It's a sad day in Pizzaville. Â I had a cold undercooked pizza. Â I will admit that I have very high expectations. I have three previous 5 star reviews. Â I know what they are capable of. Â The cheese wasn't even cooked completely. Â I used a Groupon, so maybe I got what a I paid for.
Review Source:I really hate buying pizza from the big chains.. I also have a fear of calling strangers.
Hotbox is a local chain that offers online ordering, so more often than not this is my delivery pizza of choice.
This pizza is average at best, the breadsticks remind me of old school Noble Romans (!!!) and the cups come in handy for many things beyond drinking.
Maybe I'm being a bit generous, but who doesn't love a Hot Box?
My Chicago roots might be curling up a bit by not going with a 4 star rating, but I am grading on what this pizza represents. Â The pizza was loaded with toppings, reasonably priced, and delicious. Â I got a delivery and they were confused about my location and phone number. Â The delivery took a long time, but the driver was more apologetic than he needed to be and even gave me a gift certificate. Â Thumbs up for his effort.
Do yourself a favor and get an extra cheese sauce or two to go with the pizza.
