Food is okay. Ordering is a f****ing nightmare!

It never fails.  Each and every time there is some issue with the girl who takes the orders.  I placed an order for several lunch specials.  I let her know I would be paying with a credit card.  The order far exceeds $10.  She says CASH ONLY FOR LUNCH SPECIALS.  Okay, where does it say that on the menu.  She could not point it out and I still have not found it.  I asked for a manager, who is conveniently not there.  She caves in the end and we complete the order.  Simple fix.  STATE ON YOUR MENU THAT "LUNCH SPECIALS" CAN ONLY BE PAID FOR IN CASH.

I will admit that my review is based solely on my single experience with their fried wings. I was in the area and the scent of the wings was in the air from Clark street. I am SUPPOSED to be ona diet, but those wings smelled so good. the lady behind the counter was friendly and took my order. Not even a complaint that all I sought was a single lousy order of wings!! The only downside is that I had to cross the street to PLS check cashers to get cash out of the ATM (which didnt work so I had to wait in line, but thats a whole 'nother story) because they do not accept cards for orders under $10.

Either way, it was very much worth it. Those are some of the best chinese food wings Ive had in years!!! Matter of fact, I live 20 minutes away, but I think I'll drive over now for an order.

First place I've found in Chicago that does mongolian beef reasonably well, though they could do with less onion in the container. Sesame chicken is good, and the presentation always makes me laugh: plastic takeout container packed with yummy chicken and a huge, bright green broccoli floret in each corner. The sweet & sour chicken has that funnel cakey taste which I'm not crazy about and the sauce tastes a little ketchuppy.

Sometimes they leave out the egg roll we order with a coupon, no major complaints, though.

It's so close and there aren't many options for Chinese around (sad), so we usually hit up Hunan Spring if we're in the mood for it - nothing really stands out but it works. I'm still waiting for a great place for takeout in Rogers Park.

P.S. The place is actually called China Spring, and GrubHub has it listed under both names. Just so you know what you're looking for!

This place is great for take-out. The inside is small and really hot, so i wouldn't recommend eating there. My husband and I shared a wonderful mango smoothie, the szechuan  bean curd was quite tasty and spicy and I really liked the chicken with peapods, but it was a little bland for my husband. I would also recommend the crab rangoon, they are huge and very flavorful.

This is my chinese take-out standby.   There aren't really many places for Chinese food in the Edgewater/Roger's Park area-- and although you could get pho just down the street, sometimes you just want some good greasy Chinese American in front of the TV, ya know what I mean?

If those are your expectations, then this place won't disappoint.

My last order: Wonton soup, and the chicken and shrimp with eggplant.  Since it totaled over $10 I got a free egg roll.  The soup was a little salty, but the wontons were big and it also had shreds of pork and cabbage, which is more than I can say for other take-out places I've tried.  The eggplant dish was not as spicy as I would have liked (sriracha in the fridge to the rescue!) but it was perfectly greasy, the eggplant was nice and soft, and the shrimp large and plentiful.  The portion (for $9) was very large, good for 4 servings at least.  The egg roll was an egg roll, what more do you need?

The food came within 40 minutes.

For cheap Chinese food, this place gets five stars. Best chicken fried rice I've found around Rogers Park. Everything I've had from here has been great, and they're very consistent with how they make their dishes from order to order - I've ordered from this place TONS of times, and I've only once had something be off or weird (they also delivered my food a lot faster than usual that day, so I'm not sure what that was all about). But even then, it just went from being better than most of the other Chinese places around here to being at the same level. The only weird thing is they put corn in their egg drop soup. I'm not sure what the deal with that is. Also, I've never had a problem paying by credit card. You have to ask, and they do have a minimum (like $10 or $15, not really a big deal), but I've never been told I couldn't use my card.

Side note: GrubHub has this place listed as China Spring Chinese Cuisine. Don't know if they changed the name after they opened or something? But yeah.

Edit: They have friggin' smoothies, too. And they're good. How could I forget that? And how could that not be awesome? That alone counts for a star.

If you're in Roger's Park (where the pickings are pretty slim as far as good Chinese food) and you're craving cheap, decent Chinese food delivery China Spring is a safe bet.

We got the General Tso's tofu, steamed vegetable dumplings and the vegetable lo mein. The General Tso's sauce was delicious, (and the portion size was enormous) but the strange gooey coating on the tofu was kind of off-putting (although it was nice that it was mostly tofu and not just a mass of fried batter). The lo mein was fairly standard; on the positive side of things it wasn't greasy but it was kind of bland. The dumplings were great, very flavorful and a good deal for the price ($3.95).

The woman who took our order on the phone was very nice and was fine with taking credit card, and the delivery guy was friendly.

Overall, if you're looking for fairly good and inexpensive Chinese food in the Roger's Park area I'd recommend China Spring.

Paid for 20$ of food with a 50$ and the delivery driver actually started to walk off with the change. I'm not sure if this works on anyone besides people that are falling down drunk but he seemed upset that I actually asked for my change back. Does anyone tip more than the cost of the food on delivery, have I missed a new trend? I thought only taxi drivers performed these kinds of shenanigans.

I order here all the time, and they've always been fairly prompt (within the hour). The ingredients taste fresh and the price is good, but some dished can be a tad greasy. My favorite are the rice soups, chow funs and the singapore chow mie fun. They've never screwed up my order either - just ask them to read it back when placing order.

Wont ever order from this place again.

The food is okay and they give you healthy portions. But you cant screw up orders and not take responsibility for it.

Second time ordering from this place. Called and ordered Chicken with Garlic Sauce and a small Shrimp Egg Foo Young.

I told her that I was paying with my card and the woman taking my order asked if I had any cash. I said no and she reluctantly took my card number. I went through this the first time I ordered from them but I Iet it go.

I get my food and I got Chicken with Broccoli and a large egg foo young instead of a small. I overlooked the egg foo young because I didnt specify small or large, but she should have asked.

But I did not ask for Chicken with Broccoli. I called back to inform her of the mistake. She giggled and insisted that I ordered chicken with broccoli. I told her that I dont like broccoli and I know what I said. She was silent. I hung up because I was very hungry and I wanted to eat and go to bed.

I called back the next day and I began to explain the mix up and this time she called me a liar. I told her I'm going to visit them in person to get this resolved. If you make a mistake, you correct it. You dont accuse customers of lying.

I understand with certain restaurants that English may not be the first language of the people who work there. So when I order, I speak very clearly, but not in an insulting way.

So to be misunderstood and then accused of lying is unacceptable.

Take a chance with this place if you want, but dont be surprised if they give you the food they thought you ordered instead of what you asked for.

I have ordered here many times, three times in the past two days.I ordered my meal. at 5:p.m. and did not receive it until 8:30.p.m. When I phoned to complain that everything was cold and  asked to speak to a manager the woman on the phone said there was no manager. Since when does a Chinese place not have a manager. She hung up. I will never order from them again.

I ordered on a Saturday night, it probably wasn't before 6:30pm that I called.  It took over an hour and a half for the food to be delivered.  A friend of mine in my building orders from here all the time and he's never had a problem.  I will never order from there again.  The food wasn't hot and not that good.....

I was hesitant about trying this place but it was the closest place for chinese near my apt. It looked pretty busy, so I decided to try it. the girl taking orders in the front was on the phone taking carry out/delivery orders, so I had to wait awhile till she was done. I ordered my Chicken Chow Fun and paid the $8. It took about 15min till it was ready. There was only two people in the kitchen. The lady who gave me my order was really nice. I went home and enjoyed my chicken chow fun. the chicken was better then I expected and it was a good sized portion. I will be back to try more things off their menu. They even have my favorite moo chu pork on the menu.

(Yelp has this address listed as Hunan Spring, but I swear my takeout menu says China Spring:) - either way, same address).

I am rating this restaurant based on carry out only (there are a few small tables, but I've never seen anyone dine in).

China Spring is pretty good, but can be a tad greasy.  I was hesitant to try it but have since ordered from there several times.  They have a huge menu and everything that I've had has been tasty.  They are super fast, friendly and very reasonably priced.  I recommend China Spring for a fast, easy meal. I hope that they stay in business because I think they're a tad better than some of the other fast Chinese/ Thai places in the neighborhood.
