We went here on a Friday night early and ended up really enjoying ourselves. Â The food there, while bar food, is spot on. Â They definitely know how to make you want to come back for additional food and drinks. Â The bartenders were nice and friendly and even suggested another wine after the first one i asked for wasn't available. Â We will definitely be back to hang out there again and eat.
Review Source:The food was very good for bar food, and good in general. We had a black bean burger that was very flavorful without being too dense. My wife had the shrimp and she thought they were great.
Our waitress was pretty busy but we never had to wait.
The one draw back was the smokers. We were on the patio, so I guess we should expect to be assaulted. Not sure why the sunshine and view should be for the smokers?
Wow! What a huge beer and wine list this place has!! Not only is the drink menu very long, they have quite a substantial food menu too. I was pleasantly surprised to find a cheese board where I could choose the items on the board. To top it off, the prices are very reasonable and the staff was very attentive.
Review Source:Ate here twice for dinner on a recent trip to Dallas. Â This is a good pub. Â Wooden and dark-ish which is what I like in a pub. Â Many good beers on tap. Â The waiters and waitresses need more training and perhaps more pay. Did not seem to be engaged in their work. Â Â The burgers were good. Â When in Dallas, I'll be back.
Review Source:If you are looking for an Irish bar this is the place to go. We went on the night before St. Patrick's Day...and it was packed. It seemed to be more of a young crowd college age. It is defiantly loud and crowded so if you like that scene this is the place...I would defiantly recommend this place if you are single it was a good mix of men and women. There are several other bars in the area and they were just as crowded. We ended up on the patio with is fairly large and an excellent spot to people watch. Â We ordered a cheese plate(which was I would say ok but better than what I expected from this place) and drinks and for the place being so packed we actually got our order pretty fast and our server Leah checked on us all night. I loved that... usually when you are in a packed bar especially on a weekend it may take a year before a server comes your way...but the wait staff here was excellent they were constantly clearing tables of empty bottles and checking on everyone. If you are looking for a place to hang out with a lot of people I would say give the Idle Rich a try.
Review Source:I like the seating in this place, they also have great brunch food for those groggy sunday mornings. It's cozy and warm with low lighting which is perfect for either a hard morning or a night out. I also like their rendition of "killer mushrooms" as apposed to the Old Monk's. They put them on skewers which makes them easier to divy up and eat with friends.
Review Source:Sister location to Old Monk, with the same fine food (similar menus) and a better draft beer selection. Â Also:
- Â Killer special on Wednesdays, $10 for any sammy and draft beer
- Â Excellent burgers, with a choice of tasty and healthy sides
Great place to meet friends and hang- outside on a nice day. Â No way to eat and drink here and be disappointed. Â Try it and love it soon.
I don't remember how, but somehow my group and I ended up on a trolley that took us right to the doorsteps of the Idle Rich Pub. What a great start to the evening.
Stepping inside, the place looks less like a pub than a danky sit-down restaurant and, for a Tuesday evening, could be doing much worse.
I got my favorite beer (Lindeman's Peche Lambic, $12) which I was even surprised they carried. I was even MORE surprised when the drink came out with its OWN SPECIAL GLASS (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.foodgps.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2009%2F06%2Flindemans-peche.jpg&s=7785e9cda330f88c6702edbb22b13da0832428b5d22bd427d96a0b60d06e24e3" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.foodgps.com/w…</a>), HOW SICK IS THAT?! All the times I have ordered this drink at different establishments, never has it come out with its own special glass. Rich Pub? I am a believer!
There are plenty of other brews and selections available and my friends' choices did not disappoint either. I'd recommend the Idle Rich Pub for their drinks but can think of many other places for the ambiance and people.
With the same owners as Renfield's and Black Friar, you know this place is legit. Â The patio is great and one of our favorites, but you have to get there pretty early to claim a table. Â They have a solid beer selection, with a few beer cocktails which I love. Â My favorite is the Black Widow. Â -1 star because the patio service is hit or miss.
Review Source:Passed this place about a million times in the past year and finally got a chance to try it after an eventful Christmas party in the area. First impression: Whoa- this place is packed! Â Just getting to the bar was mission impossible. Still once I got past it all, the service was super speedy and friendly.
The outside is by far the best feature. The patio is seated directly off of McKinney so it's pretty amusing to see all the bustle of a Saturday night. Â Decent pub with a rockin' vibe, but no surprises to be had here, folks.
Well. I guess it's about time to write a review for this place. I haven't been here for awhile but I've visited off and on since it opened and have always liked it. I'm allergic to valet service which is why I haven't been in, not b/c Idle Rich isn't a good place w/ good food and a respectable beer and scotch selection.
I had a rare Saturday off and since my other regular spot(ct) had the valet going, I came here b/c I know Idle Rich's valet svc doesn't start until later in the day.
I don't know what took me so long to come to this place. Â I came here on Friday night and had a great time with friends, listening to music and having drinks. Â This place is pretty spacious with a cool patio. Â I'd definitely come back here again to have a different crowd and atmosphere vs. the kind of places I normally go to.
Review Source:I really like this bar, a 5 star rating at less than peak 'shoulder-to-shoulder" times. Â They seem to always have a well staffed and well trained bartenders/waitstaff. Â A well stablished bar in Uptown, they have plenty of great drinks and food. Â I like to go here often and would go even more often if Uptown parking wasn't such a ____.
Stop by and have a nice shot of Jameson.
I haven't been to a bar in years, and the Idle Rich Pub reminded me of what I am missing out on. Â It's got a nice neighborhood feel. The atmosphere is fun and very laid back without being obnoxious. It's not a dive bar, but it isn't stuffy and pretentious either. It is clean with standard comfortable pub decor. We went when they were having a Halloween Costume contest and the people watching was a blast.
As far as the drinks go, they have an awesome draught beer selection. I ordered  good old fashioned spicy bloody Marys all evening and they were really good. They were $6.50 each, which I consider reasonable for a well made drink . The food here is pretty good too. We had the blue cheese fries and they are some of the best cheese fries I have ever had.
The service was good. The server kept our drinks coming but was never annoying. The bartenders were very friendly but professional and kept good conversation going with the patrons at the bar.
This is a great place to go if you want to go to a good solid Irish Pub for a fun and loud night with friends or with a date for some people watching and good drinks. I really had a good time.
Hard to find an authentic pub. This is it. Great selection of draft beer and every liquor imaginable. Top shelf selection of single malt scotch and Irish whisky. True to an Irish bar they have Smithwick's on draft along with Irish whiskies including Middleton and Red Breast.
Will try the food during the next visit.
This is a great bar to go to, you always know what you're going to get. The bar is almost always full on the weekends. If you want a seat, you'll have to hunt around or stalk people to see when they are getting up (kidding, kind of). If you like beers, then  you'll LOVE Idle Rich. I'm not a huge beer person so luckily they serve lots of liquor too. The wait staff is always nice, but also always busy. Order two drinks at a time if you know you'll want another one. If not, your drink will take too long and be a complete buzz kill.
Cheers!
Hot damn Bootz goes to Texas!
I may know a certain someone who works here, but the 5 star review isn't based on that. Come to think of it, knowing that person might knock it down to a 4... nah, hehe, I kid, I kid.
Anyway, this might be more of an apology, than a review. So lets get to what I remember first.
Right off the plane and into the pub, just how Bootz does it. At first I was so overtaken by the abundant beer selection I panicked and ordered a Tecate. Nothing against Tecate, but shit... it was 75 degrees, around 3 PM, and Bootz wanted something easy to swallow (get your mind out of the gutter, freaks). After pounding that toddler swill in about 0.2 seconds, I followed it up with a Guinness, Smithwicks, and Fullers 1845. For being in America, the Guinness and Smithwicks tasted pretty good, and the Fullers was money in my always nearly empty bank (account).
The next night was more beer that I now cannot remember and a bat shit crazy meat/cheese plate. Nothing literally crazy about it, it was just good.
Ok, back to the apology. To that guys girlfriend I hit on and asked if she wanted to go spoon on the couch - sorry. Oh, and the whole "I want to make Persian babies with you" and then you told me how you weren't Persian - yeah... my bad.
Overall, Texas was short and sweet. So if Radiohead goes on tour and doesn't play in LA again, expect Bootz to be coming your way.
I've spent a lot of time here over the years... definitely a Dallas classic!
This is not a place to go if you are looking for a quiet night out. Â Really if you are looking to have any sort of conversation it can be difficult lol.
Idle Rich gets SUPER crowded at night - tons of people everywhere, which honestly makes it a ton more fun, but it is definitely a place you go to see people, not a place you go to catch up.
The beer selection as I'm sure others have mentioned is amazing. Â Probably rivaled only by Gingerman. Â Other drinks I've had there have always been fine, nothing to write home about.
Overall good place.
Great pub. Â Almost felt like I was somewhere other than Dallas. Â Right by the M-Rail stop so very convenient. Â The decor was great, the atmosphere was great and the service top notch. Â The beer menu is endless as is the scotch and single malt selections. Â Guinness on tap was served to perfection (although you just cannot get the Irish version in the US). Â
My friend had the steamed mussels and said it was superb and ate at least 20 of them. Â I had the vegetarian burger and was disappointed because it was a bit mushy but the skinny fries with malt vinegar was the saving grace. Â
Definitely a place to return to to try the myriad other beers and whiskeys (yum). Â I shall try some other dish to raise it to a 5 star.
I enjoy coming to Idle Rich for a relaxing dinner and drinks with friends. Â It's a great place with tasty drinks and has a great variety of yummy and unique pub food.
Last night I had their "Fried Shrimp Baguette" with fries and it hit the spot! The shrimp was battered just right and was a crispy golden brown. Â The tartar sauce is really great there and their skinny fries are incredibly light but still give you the satisfaction that only french fries can bring. Â The sandwich was presented in two halves that were propped upright on the plate with skewers holding it together. Â It was a great presentation but a little too complex for an uncoordinated eater like me. Â Most of my shrimp rolled on out when I was clumsily trying to reinact the Sword in the Stone with my skewered sandwich. Â Nevertheless, I still enjoyed my meal!
I didn't have a drink this time, but they have a great variety of beers and I especially have enjoyed their sparkling white sangrias in the past. Â The atmosphere is lively yet laid back here and the service was pretty good. Â We were attentively taken care of despite coming in for a pretty late dinner - check plus! Last night was a reminder why I enjoy going to Idle Rich and why I should keep coming back!
I was a regular at this refined Irish pub back when it first opened and spent many a birthday, happy hour, angry hour, night out, etc here, having great fun every time.
But only recently have I rediscovered the Idle Rich as a lunch spot and am very impressed. Sure the expected fish & chip type stuff is there, but they have some surprisingly good burger and sandwich options, too. Two favorites are the stuffed blue cheese burger and the chipotle-avacado chicken sandwich.
I'm not much of a beer drinker myself, but it's easy to recognize that this place has a great selection. I am however, a whiskey drinker, and I'm happy to report that the selection is equally pleasing in this department.
Anytime you're in need of a good drink or good lunch on McKinney Avenue, definitely consider this place.
There's a waitress that looks like sasha grey here. I honestly wonder how many time she's been hit on by drunk guys.
This place is alright. It has great music, decent seating, and a nice variety of everything on the menu. It's just has this douche-y vibe going on here that I'm not very fond of. Perhaps there are too many ironic mustaches or granny sweaters? I'm not sure. Will I be back? Perhaps. :) Their $5 valet service can't be beat. ^_^
Both of my visits to Idle Rich have been during the off-peak times, so I didn't encounter the douchebaggery that everyone else reported. Â But if you want a lively atmosphere and good music you'll find it here. Â Even as busy as it was during Friday lunch hour I was eating less than 15 minutes after walking in.
The food here is good but if you have a huge appetite it may not hurt to get an appetizer too, or at least split one. Â Hint - the Killer Mushrooms are as good as they look in the photo.
Shepherd's Pie is pretty self explanatory and is a good choice. The reuben was a welcome surprise, to anyone who's only had one like the Jason's Deli version, there are no "cold cuts" on this sandwich, just thick-sliced red meat with kraut and swiss. Â They also serve it with this spicy mustard, do yourself a favor and don't slather it on really heavy or you'll get a reaction (SNIFFFF) from the Horseradish.
If it's good enough for Nikki B to invite the first Yelp CM ever ....
To me, there are two Idle Riches: the Idle Rich on a weeknight, and the Idle Rich on a weekend. Â
These days, my "old and married" self prefers weeknights/daytimes when it's not teeming with frat boys. Â The place itself is very conveniently located, has a very warm interior and great patio for people watching, and friendly servers. Â
Haven't tried too much of the food, but what I have tried was not bad at all. Â They have an extensive drink list and their seasonal drinks are very tasty--like frozen pomegranate martinis (I think) in the summer, or hot mulled wine in the winter. Â
Idle Rich on a busy night is totally not my scene, although i used to enjoy it for whatever reason--wall to wall people who are often drunk, bump into you, step on your feet, spill a drink on you, try to grab your ass, etc. Â Not my idea of fun. Â Also, don't plan on having a conversation with anyone, because you won't be able to hear them.
So it all depends on what you enjoy, just know what you're getting yourself into before you step inside...
I actually think (you might want to sit down for this), I might be a TAD to old for this place. *oh my gah*
It's a bar. Plain and simple. It's fun, loud and the bar is flowing with bartenders serving nectar of life (ahem, liquor).
We arrived around 10pm, and got a lovely table outside. However as the night grew on, more and more people showed up. Fine. No big. The more the merrier. I have my cozy table, BUT the people that were arriving made me feel like I was some grandma running out of my house in my slippers with a broomstick, shooing the neighborhood miscreants away from my property. The people watching was out of control, and I was getting anxious for crazy times to erupt from the people that were arriving.
I loved watching the guy wearing a white button down shirt WITH an entire cityscape on the back of shirt...I kept wondering what city that was. Â Oh and the girl with a skirt that was entirely to short and tight...I wanted to tell her to hire Tim Gunn. Â He'll make it work. Â Oh and my fav was this guy dancing in the middle of the aisle spilling his beer on other patrons...Get it together man.
All in all. It was fun. I'll go back, hell I heart being judgemental.
But I'll make sure to get there early so I can get my table and watch away.
Bottoms up!
if you know me...cozy is a big deal. I want to be the life of the party...but only on my terms...otherwise, give me dim lit booth where I can sip on my dark lagers and solve all the world's problems. OH..ok....let's go to Idle Rich!!! Â
From the rich wooden , dark, Irish atmosphere to the lively staff and Irish-themed menu options, youre pretty much set. Oh, you may have to wait for a booth outside...but you'll know why once you are there. You have a plethora of beverages to choose from, as well as a front row seat to the hustle and bustle that is Dallas Uptown.
Food? WELL ALRIGHT! I highly recommend the burgers, club sammich and french dip.....as well as the cheese boards...they do you right! parking isn't the funnest thing in the world, and you might run into a few uptown d-bags.....but you quickly forget about all that once you're halfway into your Black & Tan or Snakebite.
So..save me a seat on the patio..be there in 5...
Our second stop today, continuing visits to new and untried places. Â I LUV this pub! Â Saturday afternoon around 1330, it was not crowded, maybe only 3 other folks sitting at the bar, no occupied tables inside, and just a few tables of brunchers on the patio. Â (Patio did look enticing for another visit when not quite so humid)
It's a very nice establishment, with both high top tables, booths, and regular 4-top tables. Â Nice decor with the dark woods and polished bar.
Our seats at the bar were most comfy! Â We had already chowed down at the Angry Dog, so this was just a beverage stop. Â Had a glass of Merlot (a tad pricey for the size @ $7.00, but a decent selection), BF had a beer. Â Followed up the small glass of wine with a $3 bloody mary after reviewing the menu. Â Oh my, what a delicious drink in a TALL salted rim glass. Â And it appears (after watching the friendly bartender mix the drink) that they make their own mix, not from a bottle of Mrs T's. Â YUMMY!
We reviewed their Sat-Sun brunch menu and it looks to be very good; build your own omelets, eggs your way with choice of meats, eggs benedict, eggs florentine, etc, all priced in the $8-9 range, with $3 mimosas (unlimited for $14) and $3 blooody marys.  This will definitely  be on our brunch radar very soon!
Parking in the lot was easy, right at the door. Â No valet issues on a Saturday afternoon.
Excellent service by the happy bartender; just realllllly loved this place. Â Be back soon!
Oh, I believe this is my 100th review....WOW, I have been a busy girl!
Idle Rich gets bumped up to 4 stars for their Sunday brunch $3.00 tall Bloody Mary's that they make themselves. Â None of that mix crap. Â They come in really tall glasses with your stalk of celery, an olive and a slice of lime. Â Glass perfectly rimmed with salt and utterly delicious. Â At $3.00 a pop, you can't beat it with a juggling pin (we found one on the way to the bar, in the bushes...???)
They also had $3 mimosas, or bottomless mimosas for $14.
Next time I'm ready to get blasted on a Sunday and then yell at everyone in Uptown, I'm heading to Idle Rich. Â Not to mention you can avoid the crowds that normally are there. Â Although I did eavesdrop on an interesting conversation about the cupping of... well... you decide. Â Male conversation. Â Hrm.
I'm not at all an Uptown girl. Â I don't like Uptown and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. Â That said, I found myself in Uptown one evening and ended up visiting Idle Rich with a group of my favorite Yelpers. Â It was a'ight. Â Then again, I could have fun in a barn when I'm with my favorite Yelpers.
The valet was overpriced, but at least my car didn't get towed ala Deep Ellum. Â Somehow, Erin M. managed to snag the huge table in the middle of the room that was just big enough to fit our entire group. Â That was awesome. Â But we then spent the next 20 minutes defending it and our barstools from the tools around us. Â
Our waitress did a great job and I have nothing snarky to say about her. Â In fact, she impressed me early on when she gave me back a quarter with my change. Â ($3.75 beer usually means the extra quarter bites the dust and you only get back bills-an annoying cocktail waitress trick) Â
The food on the tables around us did look yummy and had me lamenting my plan of eating before I left home.
All in all, I didn't hate Idle Rich. Â I reserve that for some of its neighboring bars. Â But considering its location, I probably won't go out of my way to go back.
I'm a big fan of going to Idle Rich because I consider it "Uptown for Beginner's." It's the place you take a friend who thinks that Uptown is full of hoity toity places that demand you pay bottle service and listen to shady house music in an poorly designed modern atmosphere. It's big, it's dark and it's always packed but never too bad to get a drink. . .factor in the people watching and you've got yourself a pretty good night.
We went here this past Saturday and were able to walk right in at 11 pm. Our timing was on the money because we walked right into the path of a group leaving their table. . .time to hunker down and put on my drinking cap. The mixed drinks were good, not Loon good, but good and unlike Zodiac (Manhattan's, Central Park, whatever the hell they're calling it these days) the owners believe music shouldn't overwhelm the place. Of course, it's still louder than hell but that's a good sign of a decent bar.
Our waitress was pretty quick for the entire night and had no problem splitting our tabs (something still lost on most of the Addison restaurant personnel). My only real complaint was that we wanted some appetizers for the table to munch on, but the kitchen closes at 11 and we were too late (right when I'm craving fried mushrooms and sliders! sonofabitch!). The late night menu is only available Sun-Thur, so weekend warriors you now have a reason to go out on a school night. . .you're welcome.
As usual the crowd was entertaining. . .young and old, rich and poor, fat and skinny, prude and slutty, douche and hipster. . .it's got it all.
Grab your camera, appetite and your extra liver and check it out.
Cool place. Â Moderate to high rate of douches, but hey that's the uptown area for you. Â
How can you fault a bar with such a vast array of delicious beers? Â Seriously -- a must-visit for the beer enthusiast. Â If you have a European friend from out of town, take him here! Â He will think you are cool. Â He will still think that he is better than you though. Â Just go ahead and get used to that. Â
They have an extensive menu of scotch as well.
The food is pretty good. Â The cheese plates are great. Â That's what I always get. Â Make sure you get the homemade pate with it! Â I've only had a couple other things on the menu, but they were good too. Â Try the mussels and the guinness stew! Â
St. Patty's day is a great time to visit. Â It's crowded as hell, but where else are you gonna spend it? Â At Chuy's Tex-Mex? Â That's un-American! Â But then again so is St. Patty's day... Â Anyway, I've spent two really great St. Patty's days here. Â They have live Irish rock, which is cool. Â Ever heard of the Dropkick Murphy's? Â Punk rock plus bagpipes. Â It's better than you think, but no, not THAT good.
Consider this the review for The Old Monk Pub on Henderson too. Â They are owned by the same people and have almost identical menus and accommodations. Â Both have darts too!
Beer Selection? Very Niiiiice. I love how they have a wide variety in beer selections. Their beer combos are great. Every time I go, they seem to be out of Koningshoeven quad.... boo!
Their food is pretty good. The Killer Mushrooms are great, if you like mushrooms.Well hey, it's fried! Who doesn't like anything that isn't fried? Â The ranch-spicy dipping sauce goes great with it too. I just wish there was more of that spicy sauce. The Whiskey Cheddar Bacon Burger was good as well. I asked for the patty to be cooked medium, but it came out well done and dry, something a lot of ketchup fixes!
