My family and I have been here twice, both times after seeing Santa at Bass Pro Shop. I think I remember last year being good, but yesterday was a complete fail all around.
The service stunk. The waitress was nice enough, but being nice isn't all that is required to be a good waitress. Drinks took 10 minutes to come out. We never got any bread until we asked for it where every other table had it out, then it ended up coming out at the same time as dinner.
The country fried ribeye was not special at all. The meat was fatty. The mashed potatoes were fine and the gravy was ok. My wife had the fish and chips, which had a lot of extra grizzle on it.
I thought the Mac and Cheese that my daughters had came out less warm than it should have. They didn't complain, but I wasn't impressed. The cheese even looked gloppy. Â It was Kraft Mac and Cheese. Â Pretty difficult to screw up. Â Oh, and she never provided any drink refills.
The ONLY thing the waitress did quickly was bring us the check and run my credit card. I really don't remember it being crappy last year otherwise I would have resisted going back, especially when there is a Red Robin right across the parking lot, which my girls love going to.
As far as price is concerned I didn't think it was really any pricier than what we would have expected to pay. Maybe a LITTLE, but not what I would consider out of line. Â The ONLY reason I am giving this place two stars is because I thought we had a good experience last time we were there, otherwise I wouldn't have gone back. Â We won't be making that mistake again. Â Lots of other restaurants in the very immediate vicinity since it is in the middle of the Northfield Shopping Center. Â Visit one of them instead.
UPDATE 12/12/2012: I looked at my credit card statement today and noticed that the waitress decided to take it upon herself to leave a larger tip than what I had allocated on the bill. Â As a result, I am now modifying my rating down to 1-star. Â Theft is not an acceptable quality in an eating establishment. Â I will note that they did resolve the situation, but it never should have happened to begin with.
Yeah the fish tank was cool. The service was horrible and the food was for the price was not so good. Â Don't bring appetizers without a plate. Â No salt and pepper. Â I would not go back. The hostess didn't want to seat us outside at a quiet table because it was not in the servers area, and she would have to walk another 10 feet. YUK. Save your money.
Review Source:I was hesitant to eat here, but the server was so amazingly friendly and helpful (wish I could remember his name). Â He went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed. Â My fish and chips were delivered so quickly that I wasn't quite ready for it when it arrived. Â The serving was very generous and the fish had a yummy and crispy, yet thin crust. Â He even suggested places for me to visit at my next destination!
I look forward to eating there again when I run across one again.
The giant aquarium was very cool! I don't know what it is about large aquariums but I think I could sit for hours just watching the fish. The aquarium was the best part of the restaurant.
The hostess didn't greet us more than asking how many were in our party. Four. She got some menu's then just began walking away. We followed her assuming she was actually taking us to a table, but we were not entirely sure that was what she was doing since she is apparently selectively mute. With booth's available she tries to seat us at a table in the middle of the restaurant. When we asked to be seated at a booth she seemed put off that we were not willing to sit where she wanted to place us. Not a good first impression.
After we were seated it was about 5 to 10 minutes before our waitress arrived to take our drink orders. However after all of that the waitress was on top of it for the remainder of dinner.
I saw that they had alligator appetizers on the menu, and because I never have had alligator I decided I would order it. Unfortunately I was informed by our waitress that they did not have the alligator. Probably wasn't good anyway!
So I got the fried crawfish tails which were ok. For the main course I ordered the blackened catfish etouffee. It was pretty good.
Overall everyone liked their food. This is a good restaurant to try just to try a new restaurant. But I would likely not return unless outvoted by others in my dinner group.
The service ended up being pretty good. The bad attitude hostess needs to be canned.
I was told never to go to Islamorada and I have to say it really did not suck. Not that it was a place I would return to again and again but if I was from Cheyenne WY and made a special road trip to the best Bass Pro Shop sale of the year, I would not be unhappy.
I had the grilled tilapia fish tacos and the husband had the chicken/bacon sandwich. They had sweet tea which we got and what I thought were a bit pricey drinks for the venue ($6.00-$8.00) which we did not get.
Both of our meals were OK, I asked for a few extra seasonings and turned my tacos into a nice treat. I think what Islamorada had going for it are the decorations and fish tanks. They do keep you occupied while eating the meal and maybe that makes it taste better.
This was my second vist here. Â My first vist was during the Christmas holidays and the place was packed. Â I had the Bayou Platter which was pretty tasty. Â The service was poor. Â We waited forever for our food and when I asked the waitress about it she said she'd check and brought our food out. Â It had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for some time. Â And she managed to drop my corn on the cob off my plate and onto the table. Â She didn't bother to offer me a replacement. Â I didn't think I'd go back but had a change of heart. Â A much better experience! Â The bread of course is to die for!! Â I had the coconut shrimp and it was really good! Â The service was very good this time! Â So, I will be back!
Review Source:Unique place with a cool fish tank and toasty fireplace. The fish and chips was ok - not too greasy but the homemade tartar was watery and tasted more like the coleslaw. It was fun to try and I might suggest popping in to grab a dessert  - it was just standard not horrible but not great.
Review Source:I was almost embarrassed to eat at a restaurant inside the Bass Pro Shop Store, and then I made it worse by having the Fish and Chips.
But they were great. Excellent flavor with a very nice texture on the fish.
Surprisingly good.
One of the best in town.
So go on in and watch the fish swim in the giant aquarium and then eat one of their relatives for lunch.
The fish swimming by in the giant aquarium gave me funny looks, I swear.
It was worth it.
Seriously, located in the same building as the Bass Pro shop. Check out the men's shirts when you are there. Good quality.

Islamorada reminds me of... Islamorada. Â Literally. Â I am from Miami, and this place is as close to the real deal as I've found out here.
The huge aquariums are cool, as is the post-dinner field trip to Redneck Disney next door. Â
The decor is an odd twist of Island Chill (Aquariums, fish on the wall, Fish photos, big windows, photos/paintings of Famous Florida Landmarks like the Seven Mile Bridge, etc) and Colorado (Huge Fireplace, stone and Thick Wood rafters.) Â It's a mismatched hodgepodge of randomness. Â But it keeps your eyes busy.
The menu (while a TAD overpriced for someone who is used to the Mahi Mahi being called what it really is (Dolphin, it's a fish. Look it up) and being caught 20 miles out and brought in fresh and priced accordingly. But I'll pay a premium for authentic-ish seafood way out here in Landlubber World.
I've tasted a few of their appetizers. Â But I usually don't have room after chowing down on their sweet-crusted bread that comes complimentary. Â The Fish Tacos were skippable, but the Fried Gator Tail is worthy of a try. Â But ask them to leave off the weird, electric green Jalapeno Cream Sauce they drench the Tail in. Â The real winner of the appetizers is the highly authentic Smoked Wahoo Dip. Â Chunks of Smoked Wahoo with Mayonnaise and smooth smoked fish, onions, and seasonings. Â This brings me back to Florida. Â It's served with Club Crackers, but I get a side of their House-Made Fresh Chips to go with it. Â I like to spritz mine with Lime and hot sauce. Â But I DO wish they offered more brands than Tabasco.
Their Salmon dishes have always been a crowd pleaser, served with veggies (Broccoli) and Rice. Â I really enjoy their Fish and Chips, too. Â The fish is fresh and not greasy, and their chips can also be Ranch Potato Wedges. Â Noms.
I also like to add on a skewer of 5 Scallops for $5.95.  I'm a sucker for  a good scallop, and these tend to not be overcooked and have always been fresh.
The service is very hit-or-miss. Â We've had amazing, fun, friendly, attentive service, but we've also been neglected and forgotten and ignored. Â The bartenders have always been very friendly and pour some great rum drinks to complement the Island Feel of the this place. Â
Plus, you get to look at the fishies as you get tanked.
A tasty restaurant hidden inside an outdoor store
When you first walk in, the decor of the place really gets your attention. Â There is an awesomely huge aquarium behind the bar, huge fish mounts all over the room, a central 360-degree fireplace, and a roof that is basically a rotunda made of wood. Â The super-high ceiling makes you feel like you're in a much larger restaurant than you actually are.
I was a bit worried about the service after reading some reviews, but the server for my party was kind and attentive. Â Appetizers consisted of fried alligator, which was really quite good and nice, warm bread. Â I myself had grilled scallops which were large in size and nicely cooked. Â The broccoli that accompanied was marinated in something delicious and was a definite plus. Â Overall, a great meal in a unique atmosphere.
The visuals of this place are cool... big fire in the middle, huge aquarium behind the car, tons of look-alike sea life to look at.
As far as the service goes, top notch. Â The servers were on top of everything and even the manager hooked me up with a refill or two.
My food was pretty darn good... fish and chips (actual house-made potato chips instead of fries), both of which were great. Â The bread they bring out before the meal was good too.
I would say the lacking would be the kids food. Â My son had the pizza and he took one bite and said "This cheese is no good." Â I took a bite and had to agree. Â It tasted like the low quality cheese they use at Chuck E Cheese or other places where food quality isn't why people come. Â From the sound of other reviews, that's pretty much across the kids food board.
Between the location inside the shop and the service/food  quality, I'd certainly go again if we were shopping and hungry, but I'd never make a special trip.
Okay.
Seating was prompt at 5 PM on a Friday. Hostess was friendly.
Our waitress was decent.
The food, however, was okay. I think the people who stated this was a step above Red Lobster were being generous. As a matter of fact, I may be weird, but I think I would have preferred Red Lobster.
I had an order of fried shrimp. It was the exact same order I could have received at Red Lobster and had more of for the same price. In addition I could have received a salad. A salad was extra for my meal here.
The complimentary bread had some kind of sugar on top of it. Strange. I missed my cheddar biscuits.
I was expecting the fried shrimp to be bigger, since 8 of them were coming in at around 15.99.
Overall it was just okay. Nothing I would hurry back to again but nothing so horrible that would make me say to stay away.
The food was a solid 2 (Meh) but the staff pushed the rating to a 3 (A-Okay).
Met my favorite sister in law here for lunch - we had both heard about it and never tried it. We both had the fish & chips - she had it with the regular friend and I had the ranch wedges. Â Both were yummy and the 3 peices of fish were lightly breaded, piping hot, crispy, not too greasy. Simply delicious.
The atmosphere is rustic and playful.
Our waitress was loess than attentive though.
I will certainly be back for more!
The only reason they're getting 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the manager.
When my boyfriend (Mike) & his friend (Terry) were done tinkering in Bass Pro Shop, we decided to try this place out. We decided to give it a shot because the prices were very reasonable for a seafood place & it had a very nice atmosphere. They've got a BIG saltwater fishtank above the bar, & a fireplace on the opposite end of  the restaurant & the low lighting gives it a very cozy feel.
When we first went in, we were seated by a very rude manager. Terry was wearing a Patriots jersey & the manager thought it appropriate to ask "Are you alright since the accident?" It was supposed to be a joke (the quarter back for the Patriots was recently in a car accident), but I thought the statement was uncalled for. When we were finally seated, a waiter quickly came to ask our drink order. I found the waiter to be very friendly, even if he was obviously exhausted. He even sat down & talked with us for a minute because he needed a rest - He was also the only bartender in the place that night, and the only server for our half of the restaurant (where  a majority of the guests were seated), despite the fact that there seemed to be many other servers sitting on their butts, chatting with the manager.
Anyways, on to the food: The 3 of us ordered the Island Sampler as an appetizer, which comes with Alligator, Calamari, Cheese Quesadilla, and Chicken Wings, according to the menu, which translates into Alligator, cut into pieces like chicken nuggets and some sort of spice is added to make it a little spicy; Calamari, AKA squid tentacle pieces dipped in batter & deep fried (they look like mini onion rings); Cheese Quesadilla, a green tortilla (doesn't taste any different than a regular tortilla) filled with cheese & a spinach cream, then cut into triangle shaped pieces (I was hoping it would be a little spicy, but it wasn't); & Chicken Wings, covered in hot sauce that was too spicy for my taste (but Mike & Terry loved them). There were 3 pieces of everything (except the Calamari, which they gave us an abundance of), & it was served with marinara sauce, blue cheese, & a 3rd green sauce that we later discovered was cream cheese & jalapeno jelly (which was surprisingly sweet. I really liked it, especially on the calamari). Everything in this appetizer was new to me, but it was very good. Terry claimed that their alligator was the most tender he had ever had, & while I've never had alligator before, it was indeed very tender. I've had calamari before, but never cooked this way. While it was good with the cream cheese/jalapeno jelly sauce on it, I found it to be rather plain without. The Quesadilla was a little plain to me as well, but they don't specialize in Mexican food, so it's understandable.
Before I talk about our entrees, I want to talk about my drink. The menu said that they served Iced Tea, so I asked if they served Sweet Tea. It tasted like they added sugar to it after it was already in my glass (although I shouldn't say "glass" because they were made of plastic). I had 3 cups of it total, & every time that they brought me a new cup of it, it tasted different. Instead of giving you refills, this is a place that brings you a new glass & leaves the old one on the table. The first glass tasted alright, but I added one packet of sugar to make it a little sweeter. The second glass was perfect as it was. The third glass needed 3 packets of sugar to make it as sweet as I like it, & it still didn't taste right (it had a very strange after taste, but I can't put my finger on what it tasted like).
As for our entrees, Mike & Terry both got the Sportsman's Platter (fried shrimp, catfish & alligator) & I got the small order of Coconut Shrimp (5 pieces total). All of our meals also came with fries & coleslaw, & mine had a few extra pieces of calamari with it. Mike asked for corn on the cob instead of fries, & he loved their corn. He said "They cooked it just right, & they used some great butter." I don't care for coleslaw, so I gave mine to Mike, & he DEVOURED it. He LOVED their coleslaw. Terry really enjoyed his catfish while Mike found it to be very plain, & both men said that their shrimp was good, ordinary shrimp. As for me, I thought the coconut shrimp was rather small, but I might just be picky (I've had shrimp from Thailand - Â bigger than your fist). Despite its size, it was very good. I have to say, they serve some of the best fries I've ever had, & they taste even better dipped in cream cheese/jalapeno jelly sauce.
Between the 3 of us, we spent a total of about $60 (not including the fat tip we left our waiter). $20 a person isn't too bad, & the 3 of us were absolutely STUFFED when we left!
Overall, the whole experience was great; The service (from our server at least) was great, the food was fantastic (none of us can get over how good that alligator was), & the atmosphere was very calming. We'll definitely come back at a later date.
My family has been raving about this place. How cool it was to try aligator, see the huge aquarium, very cool and expensive.
As I am not in this area very often I haven't had a chance to experience this place. But after picking up a famous author from the airport for my library district, I suggested it and he said "lets do it!"
The atmosphere was most definitely outdoorsy, I enjoyed it, and he thought it was neat.
I had the fish n chips, with fries. I had to, I told my guest, I have to try it to compare to the other greats I have tasted. He had the huge combo Catfish, Shrimp and Aligator. Mine came out classic, fried fish with fries, malt vinegar and ketchup. His was massive, huge plate of food, and an assortment of sauces including a jalepeno dip that came out neon green.
Mine was very tasty, extra greasy, a bit too heavy on the grease for me, but still good. He let me try the gator and it was a bit chewy but very zingy. I liked it, and so did he.
The service was nice, attentive and easily humored by the author. We had great conversation and good overall experience.
Stopped in for some quick lunch before hitting the Bass Pro and all of its splendor.
This restaurant is a bit of a mixed metaphor. Â They're going for the laid-back, rustic mountain look and feel. Â Oddly, they pair this with "island" music, a 13,000 gallon salt water tank filled with tropical fish, and island-themed cocktails.
But I can't complain about the relaxing vibe that the fish lend to the place. Â They have little personalities, each one. Â Made me a tiny bit guilty when my grilled grouper sandwich arrived, but it didn't stop me from chowing down in front of my new-found fish friends. Â The grouper was cooked well, and it hit the spot. Â
I wouldn't call this "destination" dining. Â But if you're in the area and heading to the wonder that is Bass Pro, certainly stop in for a bite. Â You need to be well-fueled for shopping.
So I'd never been to Bass Pro before and my husband wanted to take me to show me all of the cool stuff they had.
After spending probably an hour just walking around the store we decided to stop in at the restaurant and have a bite.Yes, the restaurant is inside of Bass Pro. I'm told there's a Starbucks in there somewhere too, but I haven't seen it yet.
We just ordered an appetizer sampler to share and a couple of drinks. The decorations in the restaurant are fun. There are models of fish hanging all over the place. So if you've never seen what a blue fin tuna looks like, you'll know after eating there! There's also a large aquarium behind the bar that has a puffer, lion fish, and a bunch of others that I couldn't name.
The food was good. The sampler came with wings, calamari, quesadillas, and alligator. I'd never had alligator before, but it was pretty good. The quesadillas were my favorite, they were delicious. The drinks were good and the service was prompt and friendly, maybe a little overly talkative but it was late and we were sitting at the bar, so I can't complain too much.
I'd like to go back and try them for a full dinner.
This is more like a 3.5 or 4 star joint but I gotta get his rating up! Â Bland and greasy? Â No, no, no...not in my experience!
Being east coast transplants, and missing fish houses on just about every corner, my wife and I have been here several times since it opened a few years ago. Â Most recently last weekend.
We've run through most of the menu. Â The fried catfish and coconut shrimp are excellent. Â They also serve many grilled and broiled items which they'll prepare for you in a variety of ways. Â The sesame tuna and maple glazed salmon, are especially good.
The salads are fresh and crisp. Â The side dishes are all good. Â For dessert try the chocolate chip cookie (freshly baked and served in a small cast iron skillet) with ice cream, or the key lime pie.
They also serve chicken, pork and steak. Â They look good but we've never tried them. Â Don't know why anyone would go to a fish restaurant and order chicken, pig or cow.
This isn't the cheapest place in town, but you don't have to take out a second mortgage to eat here (think Fresh Fish Company, Jax, or Oceanaire). Â And it's several steps above the Red Lobster. Â It's visually interesting with many old photos and specimens mounted on the walls, and a huge live fish tank behind the bar. Â If there's a wait for your table, you can browse the best and biggest outdoor store this side of the Mississippi until your pager goes off.
An acquaintance once spoke very highly of this place. Â It has since been determined that this particular acquaintance has poor taste. Â This place is a visit to barf city. Â Huge portions of bland, greasy food. Â In the middle of a Bass Pro Shop. Â No thanks. Â On the positive side, this restaurant provides plenty of interesting visuals.
Review Source:Isalmorada is inside the new BassPro Shop near Stapleton. The food was OK. I'm not a huge fan of fish so may have liked it more if I were.
The big reason, as far as I'm concerned, to go here is the massive fish tank behind the bar. The tank is bar to ceiling and stocked with massive fish.
