I was in the mood for some peruvian chicken and decided to give this place a try. Â And let's be honest, when I say peruvian chicken, I really mean the sauce that comes on the side.
Jacalito's was good. Â The chicken was moist... not as flavorful as I would have hoped, but again, this is where the sauce is supposed to play it's part. Â The yucca was great! Â I'd go back and order just a side of yucca. Â The platanos/maduros were also very good, though I had no use for the side of sour cream they serve with them.
The sauce? Â Eh. Â The green was spicy... definitely had a kick, great on the white meat section of chicken The white and yellow sauces? Â They weren't bad.
Overall, no complaints, and I'll definitely stop by again.
This casual restaurant sells Tex-Mex food such as tacos, fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, carne asada, rotisserie chicken, and flan. I usually get take-out for home, but I have eaten in at one of their many tables before. Prices are reasonable. Cashiers are nice. Tables and bathrooms are clean. You can sit and watch their TV while you wait for your food to be done cooking, but wait times are not too long. Catering is available.
Review Source:Pretty good food and service is very nice. Chickens pretty good but I think the steak soft tacos are the best thing they have. Not too expensive but if your in the area I'm not sure this would be my first choice. There are a lot of great Latino places up the street but this place definitely has best steak tacos....
Review Source:I went here with a few coworkers for lunch... I saw that they had chicken or beef enchiladas... but because of lent I wanted to get shrimp (i gave up beef and chicken)... I was informed that they didn't have that, but could make it for a little extra, which was cool... it was only like 2 bucks extra! Â The food there is great! the service is quick! Â I'll definitely be back for more!
Review Source:Great little cafeteria-style restaurant! Beef items (bistec, beef tacos, etc.) are some of the best I've had because they are incredibly tender and well-seasoned/marinated. The portions are large the food is fresh, and they have one outstanding item: The Alfajores are better here than any other restaurant I've ever tried.
Review Source:The Peruvian chicken here is pretty good and a decent size. I work nearby and all of my coworkers love this place, they would probably give this place a 5 star. The salads, burritos, and taco salads come with very generous portions. Another plus about Jacalito are their drinks, they have authentic drinks including fruit drinks and horchata.
The reason for a 4 star is because their food is really good, but I have had better.
Having moved from So Cal (and hubby from TX), we were used to having an ample supply of Tex-Mex/authentic Mexican food. We hadn't found any here in VA until we went to Jacalito.
The service was great, as was the selection. Prices are reasonable. The chicken enchiladas were delicious, and hubby really liked the grilled steak tacos. Will definitely eat there again!
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place.
I love pollo a la brasa, so I was excited to find this place so close to home. The chicken was moist and delicious, as were the ribs. I also had a taco and an chicken enchilada, which was DELICIOUS because they used the rotisserie chicken. The sauces are also awesome (the green sauce has a wonderful kick to it). I highly recommend this restaurant!

Yes the staff is frendly, but that should come standard when going to the establishment; friendly only goes so far when the food isn't what one expects. In the end I'm paying for good food and to me that's the bottom line.
I had the 1/2 chicken and sadly it was tasteless and a bit dry.  Thankfully they included some ground jalapeño which gave the meal a little taste and spice.
I'm going to give them another chance and try the Carne Asada; but if that doesn't rock my world I won't be going back.
You have to start with: Super Friendly Staff. Â Great job guys, I always feel welcomed by your great smiles.
I haven't had the mex food but can highly recommend the rotisserie chicken. Â You can get it with the nearly mandatory Yucca and salad along with typical green (cilantro/jalepeno) , yellow (aioli?) and spicy mayo sauces. Â They grill the birds over real charcoal and you can taste a difference. Â
Plus for no MSG headache from the mojo.
1/2 star minus for variable tenderness of the birds.
plus 1/2 star for Latin Football on everyday at lunch
I'm from Texas, but have living in Virginia for nine years. Â I thought I would never have good Tex-Mex food other than the three times per year I travel back to Texas. Â SURPRISE! Â I discovered Jacalito Grill! Â This is the BEST Tex-Mex food outside of Texas! Â It is delicious! Â And don't forget the amazing alfajores for dessert! Â Simply Amazing!
Review Source:$6.25 for quarter chicken platter.
Crispy yuca fresh from the fryer. I had the choice between regular fries and fried yuca. I prefer regular fries. Yuca is drier and more dense and with more fiber.
Moist chicken. Much better than the one down the road - La Brasa Chicken. I'll come back for lunch.
I have been driving by this place on my way home from yoga for the past year now and haven't been able to bring myself to stop because -
1) Alban Road, WHY are you scary at night??
2) I didn't exactly know what type of food the name "Jacalito" entailed. (and in case you were wondering, it means "little pony" in spanish. YUP.)
FINALLY, I stopped. They have a random combination of Mexican food and rotisserie chicken (why???) but hey, who am I to judge?
I tried the taco plate and my man had the enchilada plate. Came out fast, super friendly peeps, good price and the food was great! Jacalito, I WILL return to your fine establishment!
This place is just OK. I've been to a few places that are alot better. Chicken was cool ok but lacked the flavor I like. Service was good tho, seemed willing to make you satisfied. Overall not a bad place.
Some recommendations below but distance is a factor.
Senor Chicken (Mount Vernon Ave) There's a good retail shop near there called Super K Center, I picked up some good quality luggage and gifts there at a great price. So, another reason to go there.
Crisp and Juicy ( Tysons/Falls Church) - Good place get alot of their orange sauce if you like a little spicy. No good shops around here but Anthony's has some good steak and cheese sandwiches.
Thanks for reading!
Great authentic Mexican. I generaly avoid any place with pictures on the menue but this place is an exception. Fresh ingridients, great corn tortillas, and the best green sauce for the chicken I've had anywhere. The friendly service was above any expectation you might have for a small Mexican restaurant. The lack of a cold beer or margarita is the only reason this place doesn't warent four stars. I enjoy it every time.
Review Source:This place is such an awesome surprise for DC's New Jersey/Springfield! Â The food is really good, cheap and it comes out fast! Â The waitstaff is really friendly, especially the owner. Â Definitely a good place to go if you work in the area and need to get food quickly before your lunch break is over.
Review Source:Stumbled upon this place while waiting to pick up our dog from Old Towne Pet Resort. Â I had the steak quesadilla and thought it was awesome! Â Seriously. Â It came out quick and was absolutely delicious. Â The salsa verde on the side had a kick and tasted homemade.
Small family-run restaurant. Â Clean. Â Great food at a pretty good price. Â Had a sweet painting on the wall too. Â Definitely going to ear here next time we take the dog to the pet resort.
