We've been here several times usually arriving by boat. Don't have high expectations for great food. Stick to the lower priced items on the menu and you shouldn't be too disappointed. It can get kind of pricey but it is on the intercoastal and on a nice day it's a great place to have a couple of drinks and listen to music. They usually have great live entertainment which is awesome.
Review Source:This place is GREAT! Â The conch chowder is awesome! The fish tacos are awesome! Â The shrimp pasta is awesome! Â The Key West Rueben was awesome! Â Basically, my friends and I LOVED our dinner hear. Â On a weekday night, it was a perfect atmosphere along the water, with decent prices, and good service. Â Be careful the time of year though, when it's bug season, outside seating is intolerable!
Review Source:Relaxing place with a beautiful view of the intercostal. Very chilled environment and laid back. Made us feel like we were in the Florida Keys! We had calamari and conch fritters ... not the best but still good. What makes this a nice place is the view and their laid back atmosphere. FYI, parking might be a little issue but just try it out at least once :)
Review Source:Delicious conch chowder, if you don't mind plastic bowls and spoons. Â But hey, we were sitting outside at the edge of the intracoastal! Â Calamari was pretty great, too (especially after a few beers). Great hidden location on the intracoastal, you can even watch the Dania Beach Blvd. bridge raise and lower....makes for great boat watching. Â A must on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Â Great boat dockage, too! Â We will definitely go back.
Review Source:We have been here by car and boat. Have always found the service and the food very good. On this Friday night at 7:30 it was very busy and we were happy to see they had a good band. My wife had a blackened mahi-mahi sandwich with fries and coleslaw and I had the blackened mahi-mahi entree which included salad, rice and assorted veges. Both meals were excellent and the prices were right. We like to sit outside by the water and when we come by boat we bring our dog. We will be back.
Review Source:Terrible. Mussels were overcooked. Salad had ROTTEN lettuce in it. Luckily I saw it before eating. The only thing I can recommend is the Old Bay peel and eat shrimp.
It's just too bad. Â The location is perfect but the food was atrocious.
At least they didn't charge us for the mussels.
Dive bar all the way! Beer bucket specials are a great way to end every day, especially while you're sitting on the waterfront of the intercoastal. Â If you are in a hurry do not come here service can be incredibly slow. The tiki hut style bar and patio area has a certain appeal. My choice of food while dining here is the buffalo chicken wings. they have good flavor and are of decent size. I always get a side of fries as well. Â This would be a 4 star dive bar if they could improve their service.
Review Source:Went here a few weeks ago after having not gone there for almost a year. glad to see nothing has change aesthetically. always enjoyed eating outdoors while being next to the water. as for the food, Â it has gone for the a bit downhill. Its not too bad but just way too greasy and laking a bit of flavor.
Review Source:The Interwebs were hyping up the surf along North Hollywood beach, but, to my dismay, the "7 foot overhead" forecast turned out to be a bust. Well, might as well go to Jimbo's and drown my sorrows.
I made my way over to the bar and I nestled into a spot between the sun crisped 40 year old set, and a small Birthday party consisting of 2 girls ordering coconut tequila shots. I order a cocktail, take out my book, and start reading while taking in the perfectly warm afternoon sun.
Two minutes later, I make 6 friends as the 40 year olds and the birthday party simultaneously start poking fun at my well worn copy of Hamlet, which I'm forced to retire for the rest of the evening. By the time the sun is setting I'm 4 cocktails deep, my bar tab is $19, and I'm going home slightly buzzed and a few friends richer.
This is what makes Jimbo's great.
Maybe I went to this place on an off day, but my experience wasn't one that will convince me to ever come back. After a long day in the sun I wanted to grab some food. I wasn't being picky. I sat down and ordered a glass of water with a chicken philly and some rice side dish. It took about 20 minutes to get my water. The food came out about 2 minutes after. I got a traditional steak Philly with fries... My waitress basically disappeared for the next 20-30 minutes. I had to get up and track her down just to pay my bill. I don't know where she could have gone for that long because the place isn't that big. I'm sorry to say that I highly doubt I'm ever coming back, especially with its great location.
Review Source:This place is great. Â We headed here right after arriving at the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport on our way to a great beach just up the way from Jimbo's. Â You never know what you're going to get from a shack on the water in Florida; could be the best seafood you've ever eaten or just a shack on the water in Florida :) Â This place was definitely closer to the former. Â You sit right on the waterway next to a drawbridge so not only is it peaceful and breezy, but you get some good boat watching and heavy duty operating equipment watching, which I enjoyed. Â We got the fish tacos, which we intended to have as an appetizer, but they ended up filling us up and we didn't order any more food, but did have a couple of beers. Â I have to say, these were the best fish tacos I've ever had. Â They weren't much to look at, a little sloppy with homemade coleslaw on them, but I'm telling you....goooooood food. Â I'm taking away a star because the service was bad. Â When we walked in, no one acknowledged our presence and there were no signs indicating whether you were to wait to be seated or seat yourself. Â After looking confused and loitering for a bit, we just sat. Â We continued to sit for a little over 5 minutes and eventually I went to the bar and asked for a wait person. Â They were not busy at all (this was in the after lunch before dinner dead-time for a restaurant) which in my opinion makes it inexcusable. Â Also, our waitress disappeared after serving our food and we never saw her again. Â We eventually flagged down another waitress who seemed just as confused as us regarding who was supposed to be waiting on us. Â She asked "did you already cash out?" Â I mean, we totally could have said 'yes' and split, but we didn't. Â
Great atmosphere, the most delicious fish tacos ever, service needs work. Â I will definitely be coming back.
A few times I have stopped by Jimbo's on the way home from work. Â There is generally a decent happy hour crowd. Â I have never eaten, just gotten a couple beers. Â The people that work here are great. Â Always easy-going and fun loving. Â This can also be said for the patrons. Â There is never a lack of conversation, and if there is a lull you have a couple TVs.
Review Source:The crowd and sitting at the bar overlooking the busy ICW is one of the big attractions here. Â The fish tacos are fab as are the crab cakes. Â Very interesting locals provide lots of laughs. Great service at the bar, can't say about table service... looks like it might be kinda slow. We stop here everytime we are in the area.
Review Source:Jimbo's Sandbar is a mix or a cross between a simple tiki type dive bar and a better than bar food water front joint, but a nothing to write home about, type of restaurant. The nice part about it is that it is on the water, more specifically the Intercoastal. It has a nice laid back, no rush, no frills atmosphere about it. The service is good and they used to have a great Reggae band for entertainment, but don't count on them having any entertainment at all. They tend to be very sporadic and inconsistent about that.
The reason I'm somewhat of a fan of the place is that I usually come in by boat. While the other places in the area like Le Tub tend to fill up you can usually get into Jimbo's if you have a boat less than 30 feet, and you can usually find a table.
My cousin picked us up in Ft. Lauderdale after we docked from a week-long Caribbean cruise. We were experiencing "post cruise blues" hardcore and she must have known what would cheer us up - Jimbo's for good food and a bucket of beer.
The location is amazing - right on the inter coastal waterway. The best part is that you can come by boat or car. I loved watching people driving their boats or just idling and having some drinks and enjoying the view. Don't forget your rich people on their yachts with tinted windows. Nobody cares about you anyways!
The tiki bar is long and narrow, and it runs along the waterfront. There's no reason you would want to sit inside unless you want to be close to the bar or you're being bit by bugs. There's always live entertainment and something fun going on.
We all had blackened Mahi Mahi sandwiches that came with fries and cole slaw ($10). Amazing and delicious.
It's a place like this that makes me want to move to a warm climate. Drinks specials are ridiculously good and everybody was super friendly. Great experience.
I realize this is not the finest restaurant/bar but one would think being on the ocean the quality of food would be better. The only thing going for this place is the location as it's on the intercostal. I have had better seafood from a grocery store and better service from a walk up window. If your looking for watered down drinks and frozen seafood then stop by, otherwise look for someplace else to spend $75 bucks for lunch.
Review Source:We came here a year ago after they put up the new tiki roof, and thought it was nice, but just never came back because we really haven't been going out all that much. But we went back last night, and we're glad we did. This is laid-back, unpretentious south Florida at its best.
This place is really just one giant outside tiki bar. You really don't want to be inside. Trust me. All the money they sank into the gorgeous tiki roof didn't spare a dime for any fix-ups inside, and it's pretty gross. Basically, the inside restaurant is where the kitchen watches football games. The ladies room could use a paint job and some Murphy's Oil Soap. But really...what seals the deal here and gives this place a solid 5 stars is the deck, the food, and - Angela!
You'll know her by the long raven hair, the scarlet lips and the artsy black rimmed glasses - and the boisterous laughter. She mans the outside bar, telling jokes, chatting you up, and getting cozy with the regulars. She's sassy and full-stop charming. She charmed us into a couple of Bombay Sapphire gin and tonics (that were HUGE) and charmed a giant 50' yacht full of rich people to stop in their tracks as they floated by to actually dock and order drinks. With a flick of her wrist on the giant ship's bell, she heralds in newcomers and generous tips.
She's magic. And she's money!
Back to the deck now. It's a long wooden stretch facing the intracoastal at the foot of the bridge before John U. Loyd park. There's tons of tables and the bar is long enough to seat many. The place was pretty busy on a Saturday night, but we did find two stools to pull up to.
There was a band playing, the Ringers I believe, and they were much better than your average bar band. These guys are true pros. They did the standard covers you'd expect (blues, rock, country, etc), but they were so good at it, they had people up and dancing the entire time we were there.
We ordered hot wings, the terriyaki chicken sandwich with garlic potatoes, and the mahi sandwich with fries. All of it was excellent, and the price was right.
JImbo's is a fantastic place to become a regular. It's great for bikers, boaters, party people and families. Come by, watch the sunset and boats go by, order a drink and a meal, relax. It doesn't get much better.
I must admit, when you head to Florida you want to relax, wear a comfortable outfit and flip flops, grab a cold beverage and look at the waves as they break across the street.. of course while some music is playing.. This place is a great off the beaten path find! for locals.. Each time I have visited I was greeted promptly and fed well.
Review Source:I want to like this place more.
The food is decent. The tuna appetizer was a little dry, but still good. The beer steamed shrimp and shimp po' boy were tasty.
The happy hour $2 draft, noon-7 on weekdays, is nice, but they serve it in smaller-than-pint glasses.
The atmosphere helps - you can sit right along the inter coastal.
Big complaint? REALLY, REALLY SLOW service. I'd love to frequent the place for lunch because I work really close to it, but it was almost 45 minutes between sitting down and getting food. If that improved, this place could easily be 3+ stars for me
I'm definitely not into the "see and be seen" scene. That's why I love places like Jimbo's "Home of the Last Call". It's welcoming and non-pretentious. It's the type of place that people who own yachts and people who clean yachts can come as equals. There is inside dining, but I've never seen anyone but servers and and bathroom patrons in there. The place to sit is on the large deck, overlooking the intracoastal waterway. They even have tables directly on the water, but I usually opt for a shady seat near the inside.
On our first visit, my husband ordered a shrimp po'boy. You're not going to lose any weight with this option, but I had a bite. Then I had another. The fries were good, too. I ordered the seared tuna over mixed greens with an Asian vinegarette. No, it wasn't anything life-changing, but it was cooked to my liking (rare) and was exactly what I was looking for. Paired with a couple of bloody mary's we knew that we had found a new weekend spot.
Lo and behold, one of my favorite bartenders Darlene started working there. I knew her from Webby's, but she returned here after a brief hiatus. She is happy to make you whatever you want at the bar, and really, you can't beat the view.
This place has just reopened as Jimbo's Raw Bar and seems to be doing well. Â It was packed both times I went there on a Sunday afternoon. Â The back deck has a bar that you can sit at and look out at the intercoastal. Â IThe only thing I ate there was the oysters and they were quite good.
Review Source:I came here sunday afternoon. i had a burger. what a good burger i had. also, theres bottled guinness (long neck), stella, sam adams brews, blue berry sea dog and yuengling (draft!) for those who like to go out boating, this is a nice place to dock, get some inexpensive food and drinks. our bartender was hella cool, told me and my friend about tuesday nights (busy night for them?) and that they are open for breakfast on the weekends at 8:30am!
there are a few flat screens, i was watching the dolphins but i soon got depressed and stopped paying attention. i have a feeling i will go back to this place next time im out on my friends boat. there should be more dive bars with docks around the area!
