I didn't know about this place until some girls a buddy of mine met recommended it to us. And they were from the Midwest! We had cheap Jack and Coke shots, cheap to the point of me having to order a water after ordering two Jack and Cokes to meet the $10 minimum. Place is legen... wait for it... dary!

It's in Times Square, deal with it. But given the location, you'd be hard-pressed to find a tourist in here. It's a dive bar, the drinks are cheap, and not just cheap for Times Square. It's often crowded, unpretentious, and the bar tenders are friendly and attentive. Just my vibe.

This is simply a great dive bar in the Times Square area. Lots of boxing photos on the wall and small seating in the back. Outside this area it might be a 3-star review, inside the theater district, 4-stars no problem. Go here and grab a beer and pretzels or a shot of JD and don't expect the most polite service. I love this place. Sometimes it's just too crowded though.

My experience at Jimmy's Bar was by far my worst bar experience ever. I found the place on yelp after looking for an economically friendly place to grab a few drinks with some friends from school who are interning in the area. Upon walking in to see if any of my friends had arrived, the older lady immediately told me there were no seats in the back. I nicely told her thank you and that I was simply walking down to the other end of the bar to see if my friends who I was meeting there had arrived yet. I didn't see anyone and proceeded to walk out. While doing so, I noticed two gentlemen standing up against the wall drinking beers. While outside, I received a text from my friends that they were going to be a few more minutes. I then decided to go back in to get a drink.

Immediately the older woman proceeded to tell me there were no seats. I told her that that was fine and I would simply order a drink and stand while waiting on both seats and my friends. During this exchange I was visibly looking at the bar behind her. She then asked me what would I have. I told her I hadn't decided just yet while still looking at the bar to see what was on stock. They don't have the largest selection of liquors. She told me fine and that I had two minutes to tell her what I was drinking before I had to get out in a stern tone. Now up until this point I had ignored her rudeness but no longer could do so. It was very apparent.

Still being patient though, I quickly handed her a $20 bill while asking for Bacardi rum on the rocks. I honestly didn't want Bacardi rum, but was trying to appease the cranky lady, wanting to not take any more seconds than I already had. She gave me $16 (the only bright spot of this place) and I sat a dollar on the counter near her, I quickly drank the drink, got another, left another dollar and my friends walked in just as I finished the second. We then quickly left for Long's Room (bar) a few steps up the street.

I wasn't quite sure why the lady was so rude to me compared to the other patrons in the bar, but they noticed as well. One guy who gave his seat up to me sympathetically told me to have a nice day. You could tell the wheels in his head were turning as he tried to figure out why someone would subject himself to such outright rudeness as I had done. A part of me wanted to understand and sympathize with the lady. I wanted to also prove to her that her formed stereotypes were all off base. It was after reading other reviews more in depth on Yelp that I learned this behavior and lack of service is rather consistent from day to day. Now I see how my still treating the old lady with the upmost dignity and respect in spite of he reciprocity might have all been in vain. It's fine though, I hope things at some point change for the better at this establishment. Unfortunately though, I won't be patronizing Jimmy's Corner again.

Once again, the reason to go to this establishment is for a cheap drink. And with that quick drink, you best to either drink very slowly, or quickly be on your way. A more suitable name for this place would be Drink-And-Go!

The commonly-used 'Dive bar' moniker doesn't quite do it justice for me. This isn't a newish bar intentionally dressed down to look dark and disheveled. Its not trying to approximate the feel of another era. This IS a bar from another era.

Come here if you want to feel what New York once was. What most who was born here or lived here pre-Giuliani era wish it still were, or could be again. Come here to rock the coolest, most eclectic jukebox in the city. And if you don't buy all that, just come here because there's probably not another spot anywhere in the city - much less Midtown - where you can get a pint or a decent drink for no more than $3.50-$5 a pop. The city doesn't deserve Jimmy's. I don't deserve Jimmy's. You don't deserve Jimmy's. Now get here, enjoy it and cherish it while you still can.

Amazing a place like this exists in Midtown. Great jukebox, cheap drinks, real city
atmosphere.

If negative stars were an option, that's what I would give.

I live in New York City, I was a bartender for 6 years and I still work in the hospitality industry and it blows my mind that a place like this is still in business.

Never have I been treated so rudely at a place I was so willing to spend money in!!

My boyfriend and I had been out to a few bars, looking for a good place to day drink. Not realizing that we were meandering towards Times Square, that's where we ended up, and definitely not wanting to go into any of the tourist joints, Jimmy's seemed like a pretty fitting place for us.

Upon entering, I desperately needed to use the bathroom and kindly asked the man in the back where the ladies room was and he directed me. My boyfriend then stood at the bar to order a drink, and was then told that he was not allowed to stand, and had to sit down. (there were no bar seats available and he too needed to use the restroom, which, apparently you're not allowed to stand and wait for that either as he was asked to move and sit down)

Once we had both relieved ourselves of our previous beverages, we found 1 seat at the bar, that my boyfriend so chivalrously offered to me, and he stood next to me.

I was taking a sip of his drink, deciding if that was what I wanted to order or if I wanted to go in a different direction when the bartender (a woman this time) approached and asked what i'd like to drink. I said that I was ok for the moment, as I will still deciding. She then proceeded to tell me that if I didn't order a drink that we would have to leave. (My boyfriend still has full drink in hand) And that they have a policy that you cannot be in the bar if you don't order something...which I initially had every intention of doing and my boyfriend had already done so.

Between the two workers attitudes, and evident disrespect of hospitality or any person to person interaction, we asked what we owed for the drink. (a very cheap $4 which was impressive for Times Square) paid our $4 and left. Regardless of the cheap prices...I will never step foot back in this bar, nor will I suggest anyone to patron it, ever. I would rather pay $14 for a watered down beer and have it served with a smile and a welcoming face than drink another $4 mixed drink from that place.

Get it together. This is New York City. There are literally 1,000 bars within a 10 block radius that would love to serve me a glass of tap water while I decide what I want to drink.

I'm still on the search of a favorite, reasonable, hip/young bar in midtown that I can go to with friends or co-workers after a long day at work. And I know what you're thinking... good luck finding that! But I am still on a quest. So I thought why not look to my fellow Yelpers? That's how I came upon Jimmy's Corner.

From looking at the reviews people said the following:
-Hidden Gem right near Times Sq
-Surprisingly not crowded
-Drinks crazyyy cheap
-Boxing matches are a must-see here

Whereas I do agree that these are all correct, the bar was okay for me. It was moderately packed. I knew that it was going to be a dive bar but I wasn't expecting it to be so narrow! When my friend walked in they said "Oh, I'm sorry we don't allow children in here." My friend is 22 haha! That was a good laugh. We were seated right away in the back corner and I was happily surprised to hear my Blue Moon (drink of choice) was $4!!! Not too shabby. The lady working there was super nice. One thing I was glad was that it was quiet enough for us to catch up. Otherwise, it was a decent place to go but I am still on the search.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would.

I came in on a non-busy Thurs with two friends and we all sat at the bar because it was empty. The older lady behind the bar pressured us to order drinks. My friends got beers but I just wanted a glass of tap water, and she immediately said that I would have to get bottled water or else leave. I was really embarrassed and we didn't know how to respond.

This lady proceeded to rant on how this was a midtown bar and they needed to make money, and how she didn't like people who thought they were above it all. When we tried to reason with her, this woman angrily SHOVED all our money back at us and RECLAIMED all the glasses of beer and told us all to leave. We were only too happy to oblige because this solved our awkward situation. We ended up at a bar on the next street and spent over $200 there on food and drinks.

DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BAR! There are so many better bars in NYC. No one needs this type of rude treatment after a long day of work.

What a great place! Good dive bar, excellent service, and cheap drinks. What more could you ask for? We were greeted right as we sat down in a busy bar, and were never left with an empty beer. I think our server name was Leena. Awesome!

Local bar in Midtown. $4 beers. I don't like boxing or Sam Adams, yet I loved this place. Plus there's a jukebox.

What else can I add? My friend alerted me to this place. One step inside makes you feel you're in a scene from a '90s Tarantino film, complete with soundtrack.

This place is the only redeeming feature of Times Square in the 21st Century. Where else in Midtown can you get a pint of Sam Adams and a shot of Wild Turkey for under $9? If's just outstanding. The jukebox is also one of the best I've ever encountered (Sinatra, Belafonte, Four Tops, Michael Jackson, Rick James, basically nothing that sucks). FYI: the place gets mighty crowded after 5pm on weekdays. Start drinking at 4 and keep your seat all night.

Just steps away from the center of the universe is a small divey bar with cheap drinks and friendly bartenders. Nothing sexy about the place, just a quiet spot in the middle of all the craziness.

I have to imagine that the folks that gave this place a negative review either don't live in the city, or are never forced to spend that much time in Times Square.

You have to live here to recognize the beauty of a bar that is located in the heart of tourist hell...yet still manages to keep the drink prices down and the attitudes checked in at the door.

The jukebox filled with classics and the walls covered with old time photos add to it's charm...and, if you're lucky, you'll run into boxing coach Jimmy Glenn whom the bar was named after!

So, if you ever find yourself in times square and in desparate need of a real place with real people...head to Jimmy's...you wil not be disappointed!

Who knew this kind of place could exist just outside of Times Square. It's small, old and local. Great atmosphere, boxing themed, that is different than anything in the area. Still family run too. By far this is the best place to drink near a ton of lesser choices. The staff is great too!

Happy hour is fantastic and takes the already cheap prices even lower. We're talking $3.50 cocktails and $5 Johnnie Black neat. Some beers are $3 all the time.

Only downside is it's not a great place for larger groups, narrow bar and limited table seating in the back.

How can you find a bar so cheap in Time Square!? $3 for draft bud light and $4 for samuel adams. It's a perfect spot to hand out with friends after work. One old lady from the staff is not that friendly but it's okay with its price and location. They do not accept credit card under $10. The bar will be really crowed on friday nights.

4.5 stars..

A cheap bar in Times Square with very few tourists? How is any of that possible? Well it is, at Jimmy's Corner. It's a small bar without food or any extra stuff to do but that's part of it's charm. I love being served a beer that's under $5 by a sweet old lady who could probably kick my ass if it came down to it.

FYI: Jimmy's corner refers to the owner, James Lee Glenn, a legendary boxing coach. (I'm not into boxing but after seeing so many pictures of him in the bar with Muhammad Ali I felt inclined to look the man up)

Next time you find yourself stuck in Times Square for whatever reason and you want to escape and have a drink, this is THE place. $3 buds. Good music. Shitty, rude bartenders. Dirty bathrooms. Crowded. No where to sit or stand. Exactly what I'm looking for in a dive bar in midtown.

A solid dive bar and a cheap-yet-clean respite from Times Square. 4 stars implies that I'm a fan of this place, which I'm not--I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Jimmy's. But if I were to find myself (horror of horrors) in Times Square with $4 to my name, I'd make a beeline to Jimmy's, buy myself a Bud Light, and have enough left over to tip the friendly bartenders.

Stopped by for some mid-day drinks here. I had a shot of Jameson and a strong Jack and coke for about $10. Pretty awesome, especially considering the location. Bartender and regulars were friendly. I'll come back if I'm in the area.

A dive bar in the smack dab middle of the hubbub that is Times Square - who knew? Thanks to my trolling of all publications related to drinking and dining on the interwebz (thank you http://eater.com), I decided coming here would be a reasonable experience complete with reasonable prices.

I am not sure why the aforementioned site would refer to this place as a great spot to get cheap cocktails. In my mind, a cocktail is "An alcoholic drink consisting of a spirit or several spirits mixed with other ingredients, such as fruit juice, lemonade, or cream."* What they serve at this place is a mixed drink a la "I'll have a [insert spirit] with [insert soda]." Not a complaint, mind you, because they serve up a great mixed drink with a cheap price tag attached.

My friends and I were happy to have a small bar tab at the end of the evening, but there are many other a dive bar in this city that I'll be frequenting.

A-OK if you're in the neighborhood and need a quick, inexpensive fix.

Absolutely shocked!

Did not ever think I would find such an awesome place in the middle of NYC with well priced drinks and such a great atmosphere. We did late happy hour sometime during early September this year and I have been coming here ever since.

The thing I like the most is that even with it being in the middle of this "tourist scene" we call Times Square, that tends to disappear once you enter this hidden Manhattan gem.

Get there NOW and you will not regret it!

P.S. I'd love to finance their expansion lol, such a small spot, but i guess it helps make it better.

Who put such an awesome place right smack in the middle of all the garishness that is Times Square?? I mean, aren't bars in this part of midtown supposed to be overpriced and sterile? Jimmy's is anything BUT those things.

It's friendly, full of locals, has a great jukebox (John Lennon followed by Frank Sinatra...need I say more?), it has Woodchuck Cider, and reasonable prices all around for both bottles and drafts.

A great local dive in the middle of tourist-hell. Do yourself a favor and stop by Jimmy's...you won't regret it.

Small, inexpensive dive. But the place is SO small you can't just hang out with your friends and not order something. I didn't feel like drinking and was about to order a soda when I was barked at that I "have to order something." Thanks, let me finish my sentence that I am not ordering a beer tonight but I will have this instead...
Anyway, it's a good policy, as people were rubbing shoulders in there. It was a nice spot, though, getting away from the chain shops that make up Times Square and coming in here to see some real life and normal people.

Tiny dive bar with lots of character and history off Time Square. Owned by a former boxer who also staffs the bar till the wee hours of the morning.

* service is quick
* drinks are cheap and strong ($4 for most beers on tap)

CHEAPEST DRINKS AROUND. PERIOD.

...but very small space.

Update: I honestly had to update my review because of my last two visits to Jimmy's Corner where i encountered THE worst server. He was an elderly man with a handlebar mustache who made it very clear that he hated his job. He yelled at us for handing him two cards (we were a group of 8), lectured us when we helped him distribute the drinks to people at our table since his tray was very full, expressed disdain over my friend taking all of 10 seconds to decide on a drink, and yelled at us for sitting "too close to the aisle." All in all, he was VERY unprofessional. Dude, lots of people have bad days, but you really don't have to bring down everyone else with you. As someone who was formerly a frequent visitor to Jimmy's with my coworkers, we will no longer be visiting. Honestly, it's worth shelling out a few extra bucks for someone who doesn't make his clients feel like absolute crap.

Funny...as I read some of the less than stellar reviews of this bar I realize I've probably bumped into you (literally) at Jimmy's....maybe exchanged words, and suggested and hoped you would leave. Please...do us all a favor and don't come back.

For the rest of you, this bar is awesome. Jimmy and his wife still run it. Jimmy has life experiences that are inspirational and are captured in photographs all over the wall. His wife runs a hospitable and tight ship, serving and seating folks efficiently and as it should be. Jimmy, you're the best, and I hope I can continue to go to your times square oasis for a long, long time.

I LOVE bars like Jimmy's Corner. Here's why: Down-to-earth clientele; no annoying, loud jerks; great jazz/soul jukebox; friendly bartenders; sports on the flatscreens. If you want to relax and have an inexpensive drink, then this is your place in Times Square. A veritable haven from the crowd of annoying tourists milling about. Get your liquor straight here, as another reviewer suggested. The mixed drinks aren't worth the price...but, the shots/martinis are! $6 for top shelf vodka martini!
Cheers to Jimmy and his lovely wife! She was so friendly and pleasant.

Did some yelp research before entering this fine, aromatic establishment *note sarcasm*. I had seen that this bar had gotten great reviews...walked into the bar with a biiig smile on my face which instantly turned into a grimace. Would have appreciated a heads up on the smell that I can't quite pinpoint to this day...half B.O., half frat-house, post-party aroma.

The beers on tap were also quite limited but I did enjoy some Irish Car Bombs with the great company that I had :) Was a very memorable night and something that I will joke about with my girlfriend for a long time coming.

Dropped by on a Saturday night and was greeted with terrible service (as has been established). We had six people and proceeded to sit at a table. I sat down and the older woman/owner told me to get out of her way.

Within a minute of sitting down and moving my chair for her she asks us what we want, I hesitate for two seconds, she says we're wasting her time and leaves.. A few minutes later a different waiter comes to take our order. The mixed drinks are small and cheap- I got a gin and tonic which was watered down with excessive ice cubes in a tiny glass. A plus is the inexpensive shots and beer.

This isn't the type of bar I normally go to, so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it? I guess this place must be good for regulars. Otherwise, I'd stay away from Mid-town in general.

I had read about Jimmy's Corner on Yelp and figured it would be a place I eventually found my way to but happened to pass by while my fiance and I were walking to another bar. We figured we would pop in and check it out.

If I could, I'd give this a 2.5 but since the beer was cheap, I'll give it a three. The bartender was friendly enough but the other patrons sitting at the bar were incredibly rude and actually gave us constant dirty looks until we left. The bar has a good "been here since before you were born" feel but the beer and liquor selection was pretty poor. The restroom was disgusting, especially concerning since the place wasn't particularly crowded and it was pretty early.

I'd probably stop back in again if it wasn't busy and I had some time to kill in the area but I won't be adding this to my usual stops list.
