JP Thorton's seems like an ideal candidate for  one of the many restaurant/bar makeover shows. So many aspects could easily be vastly improved - from service to ambiance to food. Currently, it's pretty depressing. We left feeling bummed we'd spent $ dining out - even though we went in with very low expectations. Hope it gets better as it's one of the only close spots.

This is a good neighborhood restaurant.  Small menu, but it does have options, especially if your trying to feed a picky eater(personal (gluten free) pizzas).

I've had the fish and chips and they were good.  The batter wasn't as heavy as in some other places, and I liked that. I have also had their pizza and it was good (disclaimer: I was born and raised in Chicago and we can be particular about our pizza), but my husband(grew up "down east") really likes it.

Good beer selection and pretty strong mixed drinks.  The staff is friendly and welcoming.

This place is just what this neighborhood has needed for years.  A nice, affordable place to get a burger and beer.  Great beer selection, and something for everyone on the menu.  I love the Thornton's original salad with steak tips that you can order to your liking. This has become our family's go-to spot for a local dinner that isn't near the mall and isn't a chain.

I went here over the weekend with my fiance for our date night, we decided to go here b/c we loved the appearance of the building and thought the food would be great. We decided to sit at the bar, I got 2 martinis which were cheap but not that great. Service was amazing, bartender, i believe her name was Sarah, was fun and bubbly. I got the fillet and it was AMAZING, cooked perfectly with mashed potatoes and asparagus...yum! so good, probably the best fillet I've ever had. i would definitely go again. great place.

After 2 days in Boston, and a train ride home, I didn't feel like cooking.  I called my friend JK - actually responded to a text from him - and arranged dinner when I got home.  I Yelped "Italian" and came up with a list of places that I know aren't Italian and perused them anyway.  In the end, I didn't take one from the list but recalled a place I'd gone before and decided JP Thornton's was worth another trip.  JK, our friend Mark, and I went here a few months back.  This was also a place I swung through with a dinner date one night after drinks and appetizers over in Portland.  I think I played my cards wrong or my technique was off, because the evening didn't have the happy ending I had counted on all week.  C'est la vie.

JK asked for what was on tap.  The waitress shared a list of names that sounded like epithets I'd used to described friends in college; names like "Drunken Bastard IPA," "Painted Harlot Stout," etc.  I'm getting old.  Whatever happened to Coors or Bud?  In standard form, I asked for a "Lascivious Moe-Foe" and waited for an express suggesting mild amusement.  None came.  What I got was something that looked more like "I didn't hear what you said and I want to save us both the indignity of my asking you to repeat it."  This actually happens to me a lot.  If she'd known that such behavior by me was de rigueur, she might have let her inhibitions down (she was tipped well in the end).  I don't really remember what I had for a beer, but it was good.

As for entrees, JK threw caution to the wind and got a burger and fries (WTF?).  I had the Veal sulta occo (or something like that) with sweet potato gnocci on a bed of sautéed spinach.  It was excellent.  And, pulling from the middle of Tim Ferriss' "4 Hour Body...," I chewed each bite between 20 and 40 times, so for me it was like getting two meals for the price of one.  Such a deal!

The entrée selection was varied, the prices were very reasonable, and the wait staff was polite and attentive.  I would recommend Thornton's highly.
