  Nice little pub that's off the beaten path.
  South African themed bar with a full liquor and two draft choices. They also have a pool table, jukebox and lots of TV's.  
  The staff is friendly and their prices are cheep for the area.
  And it's dark inside.
  I like to stop here on a hot day. You will think it's midnight inside.
  Another neighborhood dive bar that knows how to do it.

  In my opinion, call it a South African Bar or whatever you may; it's still a dive bar. However, it's a pleasant enough dive bar.
  
  The walls, the bar, the ceilings and every corner of the place is covered with all sorts of memorabilia sorts of stuff. Autographed t-shirts, signed by persons of no particular note, flags supposedly having something to do with South Africa, some African face masks, wooden carvings and the like.
  
  It's a smoke filled, and I do mean smoke filled, neighborhood type of place where folks gather for a friendly drink, a game of pool and a lot of the typical bar room gossip type of talk.
  
  Since they don't serve any food, it's a drinking establishment dedicated to the singular purpose of drinking.

  Both the interior and exterior of this bar are really, really authentic looking.
  Really makes you appreciate the care that the long time owners have put in to it. Gets a fairly sized decent crowd in here.
  The Service here is on par and very friendly.
  The biggest knock I have on it is that its really a liquor bar as the only have 2 beers on draft (bud & yuengling) and only a few others on bottle.

  Does the world really need another Irish Bar?  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  Koodles to the Kalahari for being different.  
  
  There's tons of stuff to look at on the walls, the owner wasn't there when I visited.  He is from S. Africa and I guess he wanted to bring some of home to his bar.  The staff unfortunately didn't know much about S. Africa, so that was a little downer.  And, they don't have any South African beer.  What the??
  
  I wanted to hear some talk about the World Cup.  She didn't know much about football.  I should try going there again when the owner is there.  Make sure you have your google maps, as the Kalahari is easy to miss.

  It's not just a South African bar (and the first one in the US at that), it's an awesome neighborhood bar that's not scarily empty before closing.  Grabbing a springbok (a shot named after a popular South African antelope and/or their national rugby team) plus a beer and walking around to look at all the stuff on the walls (including a thank you from famous South African Charlize Theron) is an excuse in itself to make the stop.  
  
  South Africa is one of my most favorite places in the world -- it's a super laid-back, anything-goes type of place where it almost seems as if there's no such thing as a clock.  No deadlines, no worries.  And that's what contributes to a great neighborhood bar.
  
  The clientele is friendly, including ex-pats, friends, and those interested in South Africa.  I also heard a German accent or two.  There are rugby player looking people as well as the punkrock hipster type drinking side by side -- just hanging out and talking and having a relaxing time.   The South African and American bartenders don't even stay behind the bar the entire time, choosing to split their time sitting and chatting away at tables with patrons.  Even so, they got up when they realized someone needed a drink, so the wait for a refill wasn't long at all.
  
  They show the rugby games on a large projection screen when they're on, and some nights of the week they have movie nights.  They even have a library that patrons are welcome to peruse -- you can even borrow any of the paperbooks "as long as you bring it back!"
  
  Oh, and only shoot back a springbok if you're wanting an after-dinner dessert drink.  Ask the bartender to add a little Kahlua to the Amarula cream liqueur and creme de menthe, and it'll taste exactly like mint chocolate chip ice cream.
  
  But it probably doesn't go well with the biltong (jerky) that is also available for sale at the bar.

  If you are South African or interested in how South Africans drink. Then this is the only bar for you... well its the only South African bar in Fort Lauderdale. It is family owned and operated. You can find all your favorite drinks here and the atmosphere is "Bia Goet!"
