At one time Krazy Karaoke on Young Street was a 5-star karaoke joint to me. Everything was clean, staff friendly and attentive, songs were current, floors unsticky, books unsticky and updated.
And Krazy seemed to be able to keep up a high standard of operation. Today I'm sad to say that this place has taken a dive. This week our party had to deal with microphones that would turn off and on annoyingly interrupting our short visit. When we asked for microphones to be changed batteries were taken out and replaced, another 15 minutes later the microphones were out again and we had to ask for new ones. The system itself kept on emitting loud fuzzy noises. Being frequent karaoke users we tried every trick to see if it was us causing the noise: we turned down microphone volumes way below the overall music volume, we made sure the microphones were far away from each other, and then tried just singing with one microphone but nothing worked.
As a whole on other visits we do notice that the microphones frequently have issues such as dying mid-use. On a lot of occasions we see roaches running across the floor and up furniture. This place used to be my favorite! Please please take care of your system and your venue, it is very noticeable to regular customers that this place needs some TLC. I agree with other reviews that the overall star rating is too high. I really really hope that one day I can write another review singing Krazy's highest praises.
Guess who's back...back again. Yes, we're back and we've brought friends!
I went to Krazy last night for a friend's birthday celebration. Â A good majority of my friends took drama classes and were part of the school plays, so I knew we would make good use of the time and that que would be filled with songs of all types, ranging from Broadway classics to, yes, even "Without Me" by Eminem. Â It was a fun and memorable night to say the least.
Reasons why I like Krazy:
- located in town and is relatively easy to get to.
- pricing is comparable to other karaoke places
- LARGE variety of songs. Â They have at least 5 song books in the room - at least one is organized by the name of the song, the artist, and by categories. Â It is an rather extensive list of songs - as I mentioned above, they have Broadway, local (i.e. Hawaiian), and children/tv songs. Â They even have a listing of the Glee songs. Â It gets updated every month, so the list just keeps getting longer and you get some of the more recent hits too.
- you have your own private room - it's not like other places where you are singing in front of EVERYONE in the establishment.
- they offer discounts on specific days of the week, like student Wednesdays.
- they can accomodate large party sizes.
If there were half stars, I would have given this place a 2.5 star rating because:
- the establishment looks like it has seen better days. Â Usually the seats are always torn and the tables are wobbly. Â Even the song books look a little worse for wear. Â Just last night, one song book had only one binding (compared to the usual three that the book would have).
- the song book give you the number to enter to get your song to play, but sometimes that number is not the correct number for the song. Â So, either the wrong song will play OR no song will play because the system shows that the number is not valid. Â
- the bathroom is not that clean. Â I normally try not to use the restrooms here. Plus, it can be a long line to use the restroom because it is basically one big bathroom stall (only one toilet with the sink in the same room, no dividers), Â so ony one person can use it at a time. Â
- sometimes the system will stop playing music. Â You will still see the words playing on the screen, but no music. At all. Â Then, you have to grab a worker to get it fixed. Â Which eats into your time. Â No bueno.
Some things to keep in mind:
- parking lot in front of the place can be tight and is usually full. Â There is a parking garage across the street - $3 flat rate after 6 pm. Â You pay when you enter.
- if you plan on bringing alcoholic drinks, EVERYONE in the room needs to be 21 or older. Â They will card.
- if you stay late (past 12 midnight) and you have alcohol, they will come to your room and tell you that the alcohol needs to be removed from the room. Â
- you can bring your own drinks and food into the room, but they sell some items at Krazy.
Had going away party for friend. Thought service was great. Friendly. Helped us clean up. Allowed us to come early to set up. Price very reasonable esp since byob and food. Very good song selection and pretty easy to navigate controls. All in all will be back for any other parties I have to organize.
