What can be said except that you must experience this place yourself??? One of my girlfriends and I decided to indulge in a leisurely lunch and hit this place up. We love the tapas type of vibe and were so pleased to have found this place so close by! The quality of the food is superb and the attention is unparalleled. Our host was so very gracious and even gave us several tips and pointers for our next trip to Marbella!
We opted not to have their 13.95 lunch special which sounded great (appetizer and main course along with dessert) and instead decided to have several tapas. These were their Manchego and Jamon Serrano tabla, which came with a drizzle of olive oil and was extremely fresh; the cod fish 'croquettes' were full of cod and not just flour and breadcrumbs; the chistorras a la cidra had a smokey after taste that was just right; and the staple of the Spanish tapa, the 'tortilla' was served warm with a side of alioli and carmelized balsamic vinegar. It was amazing. This place is going on my 'regular' list! I highly recommend it to anyone in search of an authentic feel!
Called and made reservations for 12...I specifically stated that we wanted a table near the Guitarist and Flamenco dancer where we would have a good view....I was told that it would be no problem...When we arrived our table was the farthest from the stage and we could not see anything...I was ready to walk out when the hostess (with an attitude!) told me she could not do better....I did not leave because it was my GF's sisters birthday and did not want to ruin it for her....Now the food - Nothing spectacular!....There are MANY places in Miami that serve better Tapas....One of our guest ordered the $50 dollar steak and it was dry and tasteless.....Service so so....NEVER going back! If you want some authentic tapas and great service try "Las Tapas de Rosa" or "Los Gallegos"
Review Source:Oh my... where do I begin?
A friend and I were supposed to meet for a late lunch at Bread & Butter at 3 p.m., but upon arriving found out that they close from 3 - 6 to set up for dinner service.
Although frustrated at first, this apparent misfortune ended up being a blessing in disguise, for we wound up at La Taberna Giralda.
I'll start with the impeccable service. We were attended to as if we were the only people in the restaurant, with consistent refills of our water and replacement of napkins and silverware, as well as the removal of empty plates. Superb service.
Now the food. Holy cow. It's been a while since a Miami restaurant has blown me away, but wow! From our appetizers, tortilla espanola and calamari fritto, which were both excellent, to our desserts, a cream filled crepe drizzled with chocolate and one with caramel, our meal was perfect from start to finish.
The beef tenderloin and grilled sea bass deserve special mention as they almost caused a fork fight between me and my dining companion. The fish was savory and cooked perfectly and the beef was tender and nestled in a sauce so good I could probably eat a bowl of it with a piece of baguette.
A nice surprise was Karen, the owner (along with her mom and pops), who stopped by our table and shared the story of how the restaurant came about,.
La Taberna has been around for 8 months under its present ownership and I hope it stays around for 8 million more.
I have lived just a few blocks away for two years and Im still surprised when i find gems such as La Taberna close by.
Went for tapas and wine and had a great time... Jordi the owner is a great guy. We tried about 8 tapas, all of them great and reasonably priced, 2 jars of Sangria and a special plate the owner brought us as he said "if you dont like this, food is on the house".
Paid about a hundred bucks... not bad at all... will be back.
Natasha and Jessie nailed it; great place. My wife and I spent most of January in
Spain and this place is as good or better that most of the tapas bars we visited
including the most popular one in Sevilla, Bodega Santa Cruz, which has about
a hundred tapas, for real, but not of the quality of La Taberna Giralda. To put out
food this good you have to have a real chef, and you will not find that at these
prices in this County. Red peppers stuffed with vegetable mousse in a light
red sauce, ground ox tail in a brown sauce with a white sauce complement,
delicious croquetas some of artichoke and mushrooms, some of cod, and a
tarte Santiago not on the menu of a mouse with aguardiente under neath.
And the service was very attentive and friendly. New owners have only
been here six months. but, based on what we experienced, they've got it.
If you are looking for authentic Spanish food at a family-run restaurant in the Gables, this is the place for you. You'll find a friendly and knowledgable staff willing to answer all your questions about the menu if you're not familiar with the food from the region. This place is great for dining on a date, in a group, and everything in between! Â The food was very good and not to be enjoyed without their tasty sangria.
Review Source:Just want to let the people know that La Taberna Giralda is under a new administration since about two months ago. A positive 180 degrees change. Since they changed owners, I have been there 3 times and all three times the food and service was excellent. Jordi, the owner, takes care of all the clients personally, as well as Karen. Tapas are highly recommended as well as main dishes like Dorada a la sal, lomo de cerdo and several other ones. Very good list of wines and and tasty and soft house made sangria. Saturday night, starting at 8:00 pm, Flamenco show with Jose Miguel Herrero, playing the guitar and singing and Annia doing the dancing. Wonderful show. Â I do recommend the new La Taberna Giralda.
Review Source:Ate at La Taberna Giralda last Tuesday night for a girl's night dinner. Â The food was amazing! Our waitress was totally knowledgable about the menu and we really just ordered according to her recommendations. Â We drank the white sangria, which was delicious but they also have some nice choices on their wine list. Â We sat out front because it was nice out, and I hear since the restaurant just changed owners they are working on patio seating outdoors as well. Â Definitely recommend this place, great for a date night, girls night, whatever!
Review Source:I'll be honest, this place was nice but i only had 2 tapas and a bottle of wine so im hesitant to give it an all out review.. one of the tapas i wanted was not available and the first two glass wines they brought me were dirty/stained. Not good. The owner came to the table and was nice, my fiancee and i had a wonderful time and got so involved in our conversation that we were there nearly three hours.. lol.. I didnt really get a sense that that the server cared nor did he apologize for bringin several dirty glasses to our table and no attempt to make up for it was attempteed (perhaps a free glass of wine or some sort of olive branch wouldve been nice).. Still, all in all, i enjoyed the place and may even venture back for a more through evaluation of the place.. the tapas we had were the serrano ham croquettes (EXCELLENT) and the shrip in roasted garlic and olive oil, also delicious. The house wine was also very good and a value at $24 for the bottle..
Review Source:What a gem, gourmet affair at eatery price. Â The menu has tapas on one side (cold/hot dishes, open face sandwiches, etc), and salad/entres on the other, we opted for variety over opulence. Â The bread was warm, crusty, and the olive oil extra virgin complete with hint of green that Rachael Ray raves about when she coined the term EVOO. Â Not a bad start. Â The oxtail was paired with very creamy mash potato, very succulent and flavorful. Â We soaked up all the juices with the bread. Â This was followed by impeccably authentic Spanish tortilla, and squid-ink rice. Â The tuna steak was seared quite nicely with a crust that could be a bit thicker/crustier, but the climax was the open sandwich with jamon and pear compote. Â A marvelous mix of salty and sweet, the pear really brought out the Iberian ham. Â That last dish launched us back to 2004 when we visited Madrid and was mesmerized by the open face sandwiches on the plazas. Â A very respectable establishment, will absolutely be back. Â Oh, as a bonus, parking was plentiful.
Review Source:I came here for a work event and the place is cute and small, the staff is really nice and friendly but for what we had to eat (paella) was really bland and dry not too much flavor. Â We previously had some tapas with machego, olives and omelets which were good, unlike the croquetas of spinach they were just a fried taste with no flavor ever.
Im not sure if I be back.
It does not happen very often, Â but sometimes you find a restaurant so authentic, it transfers you back in time to far and foreign location.
La Taberna Giralda brought up all the good memories of a trip through Spain I took with my brother in 1978. We had found this small bar/ restaurant in Cadiz, Spain.
The wine, the tapas, the food, all out of this world, authentic and delicious.
Bring friends, share the tapas and you will find yourself in heaven!
I hope this gem makes it in this a little off the beaten path location!!
I'm confused. Either there is another Taberna Giralda in the Gables that is amazing with good food and a show, or I came on the wrong night b/c my experience was not was nice as the other reviews on Yelp. I don't even know where to begin...
My family and I came here on a Friday night. According to some of the other reviews on this place, you would think the place would have some patrons eating and drinking, and perhaps a Spanish singer with a guitar belting out tunes from the Gypsy Kings- NOPE, not this night. The place was empty except of one table with maybe 5 people. At first we thought that maybe they were closing, but nope, out came our waiter eagered to sit us down and handout menus.
The menu must have been three pages long and a total waste of time to look through b/c our waiter came out to tell us their "specials." What he forgot to mention was that the "specials" were all they had. We asked for the Taberna Giralda, which is a platter of different types of ham and cheese, and they didn't have any! WTF?! How can a Spanish tapas restaurant run out of ham and cheese? It turns out, they only had the "specials" and nothing else. We went ahead and ordered the patatas bravas, chicken in garlic, lentil soup, garlic soup, fried garbanzo with bits of chorizo, and croquettes de bacalao. Nothing was exquisite. The garlic soup was extremely greasy and the "fried garbanzo" might as well have come in a can and microwaved. The croquettes felt like they had mashed potatoes inside and it lack any flavor- even salt! I swear, it felt like we were being punked. Finally, we just wanted to get the hell out of there, but when it came time to pay and my dad took out his credit card, the waiter THEN decided to inform us of their "cash only" policy. Mind you, the entrance door has a sign saying "we accept" and a crap load of credit card logos. My father had to walk to the nearest bank to withdraw money to pay for that crap.
This place is one big JOKE, and unfortunately the joke is on those who eat here. Never again am I coming back.
Not impressed with this place at all. Â Went here for my father-in-law's birthday in July..there were so many things that went wrong. Â We waited forever for the food to come out and even then, everything that we ordered never came out. Â Service was slow and when we got the check, some of the tapas that never came to us were still on there, and the manager was basically trying to ignore us.
The only reason I gave them 2 stars was for the entertainment. Â We will not be returning.
We came here last night for my Mom's birthday and the show was spectacular!! The entertainment consisted of a guitarist/singer and a flamenco dancer that was absolutely amazing!!
The prices are decent for tapas, but they need to add more people to the staff. We were a large party of about 15 or so and all the tapas took long to come out.
I notified Yelp they have a new phone # and it was corrected immediately. Their old area code 305 number which is still posted all over the net is "no longer in service". Imagine calling for reservations and getting that message -which happened to me!
In spite of it I found out they are open and we had dinner there tonight (quite a feast) The tapas ranged from very good to excellent -3,4 and even 5 stars. Also we were told the current chef is Basque, the other one is vacationing in Malaga. Must be nice for him.
In order of arrival:
-The gazpacho tasted nice, it wasn't as lively or spicy as I personally like it but my partner loved it and says it exactly like she had in Spain.
- Morcilla de arroz frita. Blood sausage cooked with onions, absolutely excellent!! Much better than their Argentine, Colombian or British counterparts which I'm well familiar with.
- Boquerones (white anchovies) en Vinagre with garlic. Tasty morsels.
- Salpicon de Mariscos. OK but I would have like more zest, I asked for lime to liven it up.
- Complimentary Ensaladilla Russa (with grated hard boiled yoke on top?) very nice.
-Complimentary Chistorras al vino Blanco. My companion described them as Spanish Vienna sausages -they did taste like a cross between Spanish Chorizo and small wieners cooked in wine. Would work fantastic with dry white wine or Tio Pepe sherry.
- Berenjenas fritas con miel. Think tempura of extremely thin slices of eggplant flavored with honey. Rather large portion too. Sound weird but it's quite good and doesn't taste strange at all.
-Garbanzos fritos :chick peas flavored with Serrano (dry cured ham) and Chorizo. Tastes great but very filling and they serve way too much of it.
- Piquillos rellenos de Bacalao: small red peppers stuffed with a delicious, creamy cod filling, on a bed of tomato sauce; the best!!!
All of this and a large carafe of decent Sangria set us back about $70, (or about $90 including tax and 18% tip) and the service was friendly.
The restaurant was very slow for a Wednesday night, but I expect it will remain so until people find out that the restaurant is actually not "no longer in service"
What can I say? The food was pretty good. Unfortunately, that was the only thing that was good about the restaurant.
Lets start with the fact that the waitress did not speak English. She could not explain anything on the menu, and finally had to solicit another guy's help. The toilet in the washroom did not flush.
I would choose another Mexican joint next time.
Definitely a good tapas bar. The owner (I think?) was super attentive and the food was great. We had las gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), pulpo a la gallega (octopus Galician style) and chorizo a la cidra. The shrimp were definitely a standout choice. They were toasty with just the right amount of garlic. The sangria was also great. I'm absolutely planning on visiting them again.
Review Source:Wow! People really don't know good food...this place is not good. Buñuelos were fried in rancid oil, the pollo de taberna had no taste, the salad came with a mind of black "olives"--really? where in Spain do they serve canned black olives? As for service, I ordered a $28.00 bottle of wine, which they were conveniently out of, so the waiter brings over a different bottle and says it's comparable and the same price. When I get the check, $64. Friggin bucks for the wine. STAY AWAY
Review Source:Me giving any tapas place four stars is a miracle. I actually for the most part hate tapas and don't particularly like Spanish food. I like this place, I've gone back to this place without being forced by social pressure.
The one thing I usually do like anywhere I go is sangria. This place makes a good sangria. Everyone I know who has been here agrees.
All the actual tapas I've had I've really really enjoyed. The fried eggplant with honey is to die for. I will repeat -- everything I have had here as rocked, and let me tell you, I really do normally hate everything I eat at other tapas places. This says a lot.
Why only four stars? The service sucks, and that also says a lot for me because I generally have a high threshold for inattentive staff, but this place usually ends up annoying me. They barely acknowledge you when you walk in and it is next to impossible to get a hold of your waiter. Also, when I called to make reservations at 9pm, they told me  they don't take reservations for that late so me and the 10 people I was bringing would have to come at 8pm. Annoying! Especially because this place is dead at 8pm. They always take forever to bring you the check (I hate sitting at an empty table looking at crumbs). I've had some people tell me they don't mind and that its just part of the informal tapas experience. I don't like it.
Live music on weekends is great, but warning -- REALLY loud. You won't hear your company. Not good for a first date because you won't get to know each other, but great for when you've reached that point where you're happy to just stare at each other while you share a meal.
Conclusion: if I was generally a fan of tapas, I would have bumped it down to 3 stars, but since you usually have to drag me kicking and screaming, this place gets four. A little extra staff attention and I would be in love.
If you know and enjoy good spanish food, do yourself a favor and visit Taberna Giralda.
Great food, great service, great prices.
We went there on a weekday and decided to do tapas, started off with sangrÃa, then we ordered Patatas Bravas, Gulas al Ajillo, Tabla de Jamón, Queso y Chorizo, and Berenjenas con Miel, everything was oustanding, and just when we though we couldn't be surprised, then came dessert, a Tarta de Santiago, you MUST try this.
This is the real deal people, not some cuban guy pretending to be spanish, this is Spanish Cuisine, Malaga style.
You will not be disappointed.
La Tabernacle Giralda has been "on the list" for a bit, but I haven't strayed in for various reasons (including some Karaoke-ish music and a crowd that seemed more dusty than my usual companions. Â Looked it up today after bundling a care package for some folks in need just south of our shores and dropped in with my faithful side-kick.
Ordered a bottle of the better of two house reds (a rioja crianza from 2007, a good value), some fried eggplant, Fabada Asturiana, pickled sardines, and stuffed dates.
The bill came to 53.50 before the tip. Not bad. Tapas is like that.
The eggplant was breaded, deep-fried and drizzled in honey. Â It was tasty for the first three bites, the became too fatty for my tastes. I suspect the oil wasn't hot enough and they has not been drained long before squirting the oddly enjoyable honey upon their glistening flanks.
The Fabada had perfectly cooked broad beans in a savory ham-flavored stock. It had pieces of jamon and chorizo as expected, but no morcilla (blood sausage), alas. I'd order this again and ask for a serving with morcilla if possible.
The sardines swam in a sea of olive oil, vinegar, and fresh garlic. Â It was as expected and enjoyable on bread.
The last dish is interesting: dates stuffed with almonds, wrapped with a thick rasher of bacon, and broiled. Â Deliciously reminiscent of the bacon-wrapped peaches at Michael's Genuine. Â I'd get this again, too.
Pretty basic fare for tapas and worth a look. Not my face in Miami, but far from the worst.
Dr Rico
I'm a fan of any place that makes me feel as if I'm studying abroad in Sevilla again. Â Checked this place out after finding it on yelp- and it's now on my list of go-to tapas bars. Â
Don't be thrown off by the tapas concept... a little bit of food can go a long way. Â
We ordered:
Calamares
Huevos Rotos
Chorizo
Garbanzos Fritos
Dates with Almond/Cheese/Bacon
Tortilla Espanola
Plus a pitcher of sangria.
Everything was delicious but the most surprising were the Dates. Â I'm usually not a fan - but these were amazing.
They brought out the food as it was ready... and it was the perfect pacing for us. Â We left stuffed.
"It's just like in SPAIN!!!"
Walking along Giralda, my mom became overly ecstatic seeing the leg of pig and cauldron of paella offering samples to passerbys during the Coral Gables Food and Wine Festival. Thankfully, the Spanish owners were not put off by her frightening enthusiasm and instead, offered her a plate of food. Little did they know, they had just recruited a customer.
We walked a couple blocks down to the actual restaurant, unaware upon what we were entering. They sat us smack dab in front of the singer and the evening commenced. The waiter began speaking to my mother in Spanish, of course, but she knows none. Her one-week stint in Spain taught her well though, and she was able to successfully order amazing patatas bravas, tortilla espanola (which they were unfortunately out of), a platter of ham and cheese, and of course, delicious sangria filled with apples.
The music and environment are truly what made this place a treat. From the outside, you would never expect there to be such a party going on on the inside. While the music played, waiters danced, patrons joined in, and there was smiling all around.
I'm definitely planning on heading back here with a big group of friends for a taste of Spain the next time I get the itch.
Maybe it's the difference between Miami and DC but I just wasn't that impressed with Cafe Giralda. Â We tried about seven dishes (fried chick peas, meatballs, cod fritters, croquettes, stuffed dates, etc) and none got my mouth watering or made me want to go out of my way to come back.
Nothing was bad mind you ... but it was all just ok. Â I mean, if we hold true to the Yelp star ratings ... I really have experienced better. Â In fact I usually do and I agree the service was average at best.
We arrived here on a Friday night around 9pm after many weeks of anticipating some good tapas. There were a few people in line in front of us and so we had to wait about 5 to 10 minutes before we were seated. But, once we were seated and our party was complete, the service picked up.
The waiter was kind enough to suggest a good bottle of wine for us to enjoy. His suggestion was excellent! My friend and I ordered some garbanzos fritos, a tabla de jamon serrano y questo (ham and cheese), and the salpicon de mariscos (mixed seafood platter). Everything was wonderful; the portions were just right and the taste was excellent! Also, we had some cheese and cod fish croquettes (but these came a little later than expected). Other than that, we were very satisfied with this place.
5 stars for AUTHENTICITY!!!!!! This is exactly what I look for when I go out for tapas. Food that makes me close my eyes and savor every bite and service that is so good I couldn't stop saying thank you. The authenticity comes in when our Spanish-born server Alfonso answers all of our questions in great detail and tells us stories of when he lived in Spain. Some people might find that a bit annoying but I found it fascinating and  helpful as he gave us great tips for our future trip.
Taberna Giralda is the place to go for tapas in the Gables!
Good place for tapas and wine in Coral Gables. My date found this place through a little website I recommended to him...yelp.com. There is no wine list because their selection changes frequently, but many different bottles of wine line their walls with prices per bottle clearly marked. I don't know much about wine but I do know food and everything I tasted was delicious. My date ordered (or should I say over ordered) 5 different things. We had the tortilla española, fried garbanzo beans, chorizo, filet tips and ceviche. These were not ordinary sized tapas by any means. I was expecting dishes the size of my bread plate but instead got near entree sized portions on some dishes. The ceviche alone was almost enough for us to share for dinner. Everything was really good except for the tortilla española which was a little different from others I've had before...it wasn't bad but just not great. The ceviche was very fresh, the filet tips were tender and the garbanzo beans and chorizo were flavorful.
There is a stage where live music is played on the weekends. I was there on a weeknight so I didn't get a chance to see any live performances. Might be a cool thing to check out on the weekend but I did notice something on the menu about a $20 per person minimum on Friday nights so keep that in mind. I had great food and great company with my glass of wine...definitely a place worth checking out.
The place is actually called Taberna Giralda these days. Â Good little casual spot for some wine and tapas. Â Service could be a little better. Â I'm not picky, but I do notice it when it's lacking. Â I would go back though. Â Apparently they have some live music as well. Â Tiny stage, so I'm assuming it's acoustic guitar type stuff.
Review Source:This quaint getaway is located at the heart of Coral Gables. Â With wooden accents and wine lining the walls, Â it is no wonder why this is becoming one of the hot spots in Coral Gables. Â This is a great place to get away, meet some friends and eat some famed "tapas". Â The wine that lines the walls, don't just stare, grab one, open one, drink one. Â Giralda Cafe has caught on to a new trend where you pick up a bottle in the restaurant and buy it at a very low price. Â Wines range from California to Spain and between $10-30 dollars. Â The tapas are also phoenomenal, the fried garbanzos are to die for. Â The chorizo and queso manchego are also to come back for. Â This is a must do again and again. Â The wine flows like water and the tapas are priced fair.
Review Source:Peruvian fare & parrilladas
This place is great! reasonable prices, for lunch and dinner (although dinner are obviously much more expensive, and that's pretty much applies to everywhere else in the Gables). But still, for dinner, I was served a big plate of salad, yummy black beans, veggies, and vacio (delicious delicious steak)! I also like the Bife de chorizo, but vacio is my number one recommendation!
The steaks here beats El Novillo. And I thought Peruvians were more famous for seafood... hm.
Service was good and friendly. I sat on one of the outside tables at night and it was very romantic.
Prices for lunch tops $9.
For dinner, $15 - $18.
There are other dishes that are less. Very reasonable, especially by Gables' standards.
