First off, we had a great time at the Tuesday Open Mic. Â There were some comedians who were totally...meh...but others who were great! Â We came to laugh and we did. Â And this may be my Utah showing, but I loved that it wasn't just a bunch of white boys, but was actually quite diverse, including women, too, though too few (though I don't blame the club for that).
We wanted to get tipsy and both managed to get buzzed, but only with the two item minimum. Â The Seamen shot was potent! Â But the Tokyo Tea left me wanting. Â I wanted to get slammed and I thought all that liquor would do me well, but it seemed pretty watered down :( Â Otherwise, all our drinks were yummmy - that includes the Hurricane and Leg Spreader.
Our server was personable and worked the room pretty well, I felt.
As for parking, mentioned by others here, I really don't know what you would bother driving. Â The light rail station is nearby and it's not too much of a walk from midtown. Â Alas, America the lazy...
Oh! Â And I didn't think the bathroom (at least men's) was gross.
I always have a great time at Laughs Unlimited.
I went recently for open mic night and I really enjoyed the experience. The service was awesome. Larry, the bartender was really friendly and made superb drinks.
The show was great. The comedians were really supportive of each other which I thought was really cool. Shane Murphy was definitely my favorite!
Was there on Sunday part of Tahitian celebration taking place in old sac. I stopped in to cool off and get something cool to drink. Huge mistake bartender Larry was a fun sucker! Music was good and crowd was lively. Larry's bad additude made the brief brake displeasing. I will never go there again. He even made me feel bad for his co-worker George. Little angry bartenders are the worst!!!!!!
Review Source:Disappointed with service and really?! No buns for the sliders on the menu. Â Weak...
I was there for a fundraiser for a local charter school so I won't talk much more crap about it than that. Â It was my first time there so I had higher expectations for the drinks, food and overall service. Â Not sure if I'll ever go back.
The bathrooms were disgusting!!!
We got there early on a Friday night; place was empty. The beer was expensive and both the bottles and tap beer were not cold at all.
The place filled up fast when they opened the doors to the stage area. Tiny tables and poor chairs. It was ok for a coupe; but not for four people. It is hella cramped in there.
I didn't know about the drink minimum until later. After over paying for not cold beer I did not order more inside; just had water. I was told later the rest of the group met the minimum with what they drank as well as the food we ordered. The food was ok. It was $40 for six beers and three appetizers.
I don't know what we paid to get in; but we also had to pay a lot to park.
The show itself was pretty good; I have no idea who the people were; but they were funny.
The bathrooms were disgusting!!!
Of the four comics, only the headliner had material that wasn't threadbare and worn out. Â The others were good for a half-hearted chuckle. Â The headliner was hilarious.
Drinks were bottom shelf and watered.
The service, on the other hand, was atrocious. Â Drink order to delivery was a metric eternity (45 minutes.) The waitress dumped my date's drink all over me, and took forever to get me a towel. Â The kicker: I still had to pay for the drink. Â No replacement, no comp, just a vodka soda all over my lap.
I came here last week to watch my friend do his first ever open mic night. $5 cover and no drink minimum. I didn't get any food, but they had a great selection of drinks and were really reasonably priced. I couldn't see the two drink minimum being a problem on a regular night when you can get a beer for just above dive bar prices.
The bar area is mellow and seems like a cool place to hang out. The employees were pretty casual, but friendly.
The performance room was the darkest place I have ever walked in to, but there is plenty of seating and the wait staff come by pretty regularly so your drink never runs dry. Once I found a seat and settled in, I was comfortable and ready to laugh.
It's Old Sac, so parking can be a pain sometimes, but there is a parking garage right across the street. If I'm in the area I might just duck in to the bar for a drink.
Went to Laughs Unlimited last night with my Fiance and her Sister to celebrate their birthdays. We got to the club early to buy our tickets and were given VIP passes for 2nd row access since we were early. If this is the norm, then I highly recommend this if you like to interact with the comedians. Â
I will admit that I was a little leery about the place prior to even leaving for the club due to Yelp reviews and my own grimace at the $20 tickets + 2 item minimum per person.
I am glad to report that my leeriness was wrong. The night was very enjoyable and the bartender (before and after the show) was hoot. Of course it helps that I managed to choose the one beer that apparently no one ever drinks so was able to get them for dirt cheap (about a couple of buck a bottle after figuring in the gratis ones). My fiance certainly liked her Tokyo Teas.
We were seated at 7:50 by the bartender (skipped the line thank you VIP Tickets!) and the show started at 8:05. The Emcee and the acts were all very funny (bluer than I expected but not any worse than what I hear at work). The headlining duo's act got somewhat stale mostly because you could predict where the jokes were going. However, the two "Warm up" acts were hilarious and I look forward to them being headliners.
For my two items (ended up getting 3) I ordered a 2 beers (Newcastle Werewolf) and a chicken Quesadilla. If you are looking for a food item, based on what the group ordered, I would recommend quesadilla which had good flavor and seasoning and priced right, and the Pork sliders (didn't eat them but they looked wonderful). The chicken wings that our group got were lackluster.
Wait staff was prompt, helpful, and around just at the right time to keep you satisfied.
The reason for the -1 star is two fold:
- Bathrooms - Started off clean, but after the first show were pretty torn up and more importantly very small. Read that as Line for both genders.
- Club - Very tight quarters. They certainly know how to maximize the amount of people they can sit within the theater. I am average height and was hankering for some legroom by the end of the night.
If you are into catching the occasional comedy show, Laughs Unlimited has got you covered. I think if I lived within walking distance I would spring for their membership pass which provides tons of benefits and would greatly reduce the cost per show.
Lastly, location wise it is right next to a parking structure, so for those of you worried about the questionable after dark old town sacramento crowd (saw a few of those.... ladies if you are a size 14 please don't squeeze into a size 8 dress unless hootchie is what you are going for) you have a prime spot to watch River Cats Fireworks and a quick get away.
I am a fan of the club. Â We went to celebrate a friends 15 wedding anniversary. Â Parking was convenient and close and the comedian was very funny! Â But wait he was not the comedian we went to see! Â What you say. Â The comedian we went there for had passed away and the club didn't even bother to say anything. Â I mean really you don't even make a polite mention of the fact that the comedian we thought we were seeing had died! Â Bad form. Â We did have a good time but I think a metions of Scott Kennedy. RIP
Review Source:Bought a dealsaver coupon in December and just redeemed it last night! Â Well worth it and would of paid full price for this! Â
All three comedians ( Hostess, opening comedian and headliner ) were very funny! Â Food was great and surprisingly cheap! Â I paid 5 bucks for 3 pork sliders and a bag of chips! Â My soda was 3 bucks in comparison!
Laughed my @$$ off!
Was super surprised at the show! Laughs Unlimited seems to attract true up and coming talent! Â Drinks are reasonable, and even the bartender gives a good standup performance. Â Have not been to old town Sacramento in ages, and it was nice to get downtown again. Â Great place for a date, as long as they have a good sense of humor!
Review Source:On a sunday with a 3 hour show, I paid $9 for parking in the lot behind Laugh's Unlimited. Â
When I came inside I bought a $3 glass of orange juice from the bar while waiting to go inside. I asked the bartender if the drink counted towards any minimum purchase. He went to go ask and told me that NO it does not count and there is an additional $15 minimum inside (at least 2 item purchase). Â So basically I'd have to buy $15 dollars more in addition to the $4 drink (drink plus tip outside). Â Um, how many orange juices could one drink? Â And isn't that kind of steep when the show itself only cost $10?
When my 2 friends and I were seated along the wall prior to the show, we were lectured to not even think about moving chairs to be closer to one another because there was a concern with the fire department. We had not even touched a single chair and the lecture went on for more than 2 minutes by the bald headed staff member (guy with glasses and mustache. Â Kill buzz. Â
We ordered 3 food items and had eaten most of it (reluctantly) while waiting for the show to begin. Â In fact the majority of the venue had finished eating before the show started. Â I will warn you about the food, SAVE YOUR MONEY and ORDER DRINKS INSTEAD. Â Let's just say that when you order chicken wings and they come out TINY, SOGGY, and MICROWAVED, it's kind of a bummer. Â Chicken strips were sad too, soggy and microwaved. Â Nachos LOOK good but are GENERIC. I think they must have stocked up on their food from Grocery Outlet to cut a few corners. Â Stick with the drinks!!!
As for the comedy, our headliner was hilarious! Â If you are bored and have the extra money to throw at parking and subpar food/drinks just to catch a specific comedian, Laugh's is your DESTINATION in old sac. Â If you don't want to deal with parking fees, Punchline does have a leg up on this. Â *Not to mention Punchline has nationally known acts and decent food.
Should have reviewed this place a long time ago, been going for years. Regardless of what crowd I am with, everyone always has a great time. I'm taking one star off for the service. I completely understand how difficult it can be to accommodate everyone at this type of venue but the service is always slower than it should be. Other than that, the place is fun and if you feel like being the topic of comedic harassment sit right up front and be a GOOD sport! Parking is super close and there are lots of shops to check out if you are waiting to get in.
Review Source:This place is consistently a good time! Â The prices are pretty cheap for quality entertainment, and the food is tasty. Â The drinks are a little blah, but the ambiance more than makes up for it. Â
At first you think you might be squished with your neighbors when you see the seating, but you don't really notice it. Â
Parking is not as bad as you'd anticipate for Old Sacramento. Â
I'll keep coming back, hands down.
Parking was easy for the 10:30PM showing on a Saturday Night.
Walked right on in and picked up our tickets at Will-Call.
Were seated promptly.
Loved the set up of the stage and the seating, it appeared everyone had a good seat and was able to see the stage. This was a smaller club then I had expected, I liked the small, personal atmosphere.
Drinks were pretty cheap and tasty, though not very strong. The names of the items and drinks were funny. (Leg Spreader was my drink of choice. YUM). Food options were OK, but they had VERY LITTLE available for my vegetarian friend, that was a disappointment.
Wait Staff were friendly and mostly prompt. We had an issue with our dessert (if never arrived) but they quickly corrected the mistake by taking it off our bill. No harm, no foul.
Over all, I liked this place. I would totally return again.
I have been here 1 time before the following horrible experience and that time was very enjoyable, but due to this last experience I will never being going back to Laughs Unlimited.
I had purchased a Groupon for a Show on Thursday or Sunday, which I then made reservations for a show that was canceled last minute. That was a long drive From Napa for no reason. Â I had contacted Groupon about the issue who then forwarded the concern to Laughs Unlimited. Â After a very quick response from the manager Skip, I was told that he would comp a show for me and my guests and also let me keep my Groupon for another date. Â Wow sounds great right? Wrong! He was just fluffing it for Groupon. Â Here is the email from Groupon after talking to Skip......
Hi Ron,
Really sorry for the delay in response here. We've been inundated with an unusually high email volume and are working to respond to inquiries as fast as we can.
I spoke to the manager at the theater, Skip, and he was able to confirm that the event had indeed been canceled. He did let me know that due to the trouble, he would like to make it up to you anyway possible. They have some great shows coming up in October and November. Paul Ogata, Kermit Apio and Debbi Gutierrez. If you would like, they would be willing to comp you and your friends for any of those shows and you can still keep and use your Groupon for another date. If you would like to do so, you can call Skip at 916-768-4072 and he will take care of you.
If this is not something you would like to partake in, please let me know and I will look into an alternative solution.
I again apologize for any trouble encountered in the matter.
Regards,
Walt
Groupon Customer Support
So I attempt to contact Laughs Unlimited for weeks, leaving messages that are never returned, in which time my groupon expires. Â I finally get a hold of Jennifer and I explain the situation and she tells me that she will leave a message for Skip to contact me. Â Two days go by and nothing. Â Well the day of the show I figure I really need to talk to Skip before I make another drive from Napa. After trying for 3 hours and 6 calls I finally get a hold of Skip, who states that he did receive my message 2 days ago (so why no call back, I wonder). Â I tell him that I just want to confirm that the tickets are comped for tonight's show and if I can use my expired groupon for the food and drink a $10 value, thinking this solves all the problems. Â He tells me that he has to ask Jennifer if the tickets can be comped and comes back saying that they never agreed to comp my tickets. Â I explain to him that I have an email from Groupon with his name in it stating that they will be comped. Â He continues to state that never happened and to use the Groupon at face value. Â Well above is the proof from the email, thanks for all the lies and trouble.
I had a good time here, definitely. I enjoyed the nighttime walk on the wooden platform sidewalk, across from the river. I like the old, western aura it gives. It was no good for my heels though, so ladies look out! I walked on my tip toes but a heel still fell in between the cracks and i have a huge scratch on the heel. It was time to retire those shoes anyways.
At Laughs Unlimited, I asked the bartender for the strongest drink, and ended up with a black superman. I had two of these, and enjoyed them over some good laughs. The entry fee was $15, cash only. I noticed the audience was more mature -- a lot of older couples maybe in their 30s who want a good time out together. I thought it was cute.
First timer at Laughs Unlimited on Friday, April 20th. Overall, I enjoyed myself. I watched three stand-up comedians -- all were entertaining.
Con:
* Awkward waiting area (line forms inside and wraps outside building -- no bueno when Summer heat hits!)
* Awkward seating arrangement
* Uncomfortable wooden chairs
* Grungy restrooms
Pro:
* Inexpensive tickets
* Entertaining comedians
* Friendly staff
* Menu with inexpensive items
Stopped in here to wait for a table at another restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly the entire time we where there. We asked if we could stand at the end of the bar because it there were no more seats at the bar, and all the tables were taken. Even though we were to be slightly in the way for the staff to get access to behind the bar, they not only said it would be fine, but the staff when to tables with empty chairs to find my date and I two unused chairs to sit on.
The drinks were strong, and fairly priced in my opinion. The bad was great and loud, but not too loud to overpower the venue.
Stopped in to see the band, "Mitch Kay and the Groove Deluxe band." Â It was Saturday and it was hot outdoors but it was cool inside and the acoustics for the classic rock'n roll live band were perfect. Â Good crowd for the afternoon although I had trouble getting drinks for my date and I until I went up and tried to order myself when a waitress swooped in to tell me she'd get them for me. Â Then it took a long time even though there were three waitresses for a crowd of about 25 - 40 people. Â Didn't order a second drink because I didn't want to have to wait and go through that again.
Still, it was a nice cool resting spot and the vibe was good. Â This place is A-OK with me and I'll go again the next time I go to Old Town. Â The person who mentioned the "night" scene reminded me that as dusk settled in I commented to my date that "...we'd better leave because it looks like the zombies are coming out...." and I meant it as a joke in reference to some people that began streaming into old town about then who appeared to simply be loitering and people watching and could possibly have been trouble as the night and alcohol levels increased. Â Just sayin' I wouldn't hang out with those folks on a Saturday night, I don't believe.
I was a little unsure about what rating to give this place. My feelings were certainly mixed. The food/drinks were inexspensive... but they were definitely what you pay for. There were four guys "performing" the night we went. The MC was absolutely terrible. He was one of those comedicans that yelled in order to be funnier? Does that work? The second guy was absolutely impressive. The third guy talked about kids for 25 minutes straight..... not really sure what to say about that.
The main act was really funny. It was fun, we had a bottle of wine and we got what we came for. Unfortunately it's located in Old Sacramento, which after the sun goes down has a trashy, disgusting crowd that I wouldn't voluntarily spend my saturday night with.
I guess now you can see why I was torn. In conclusion, I'd go again... if I wasn't hungry, and wanted to go straight home after.
I am not funny and my girlfriend makes sure to point it out to me whenever we talk about stand up comedy. Â Fortunately, funny people perform stand up at Laughs Unlimited and so the world does not need me to get before a crowd and make "in bed" jokes or get drunk and make fun of the crowd. Â The stand up at Laughs unlimited seems like a mix of locals in rotation with a headliner who joins the mix. Â I wonder what open mic night is like? Â No, Eduardo. Â No stand up for you when your routine would be something akin to Sir Buzz Killington of Family Guy fame.
Review Source:Well; it's just like any other comedy show I have been probably. Nothing out of the ordinary. I didn't like too much the way the tables and seats are set up; it feels like you are in top of the person in the next table and the chairs are not comfy at all.
Other than that I have no complaints. The show I attended was very funny and since it's rather a small place the comedians were able to engage the audience a lot more that any of the other clubs that I have been before.
I would totally go back if I am around and they have a good show.
Kinda had a blast here, and it was unexpected. We popped in here as the last pit-stop before heading home, and we ended up parking it in here for a couple of rounds.
I wish that we were here for a comedy night, but we happened to drop in on a live band, and that turned out to be kind of okay. They had some live music and were playing some fun 60's and 70's hits.
The waitstaff were pleasant, the mood was fun, and the owner or manager (forget which) was nice enough to give us some passes for an upcoming comedy night. I haven't made it back in, since Sacramento isn't one of my regular weekend spots, but I will be sure to breeze on in the next time I am in town.
I went to see my friend perform but we showed up late and missed his act.
That's kind of funny in itself, so I'd say just about everything was funny about the experience.
A bar tab for 4 people (one wasn't really consuming anything) ended up being 50 bucks on an off night. It consisted of 5 drinks, and some nachos. It was a weekday when it wasn't busy. They peppered headliners among some comics of varying levels of skill.
They seem to invite new talent to hit the stage often.
I'd imagine on a busy night this policy is not as loose.
They were also plugging a stand up comedy class. Many times, I've thought of trying but I am too scared. What a wuss. Maybe once I'll go up there and embarrass the shit out of myself. Hey, what do I have to lose besides my dignity?
Overall it was amusing and I'd go again.
Oh, there was also a 5 dollar cover.
We're not usually the comedy club type couple. Â I find most stand-up pretty lame (but then, who can compare to my own comedic genius? Â Yes, fart jokes ARE funny, I don't care what you say). Â But I digress...
We decided to check this place out because of a Groupon deal. Â We picked a random night and invited a few friends along! Â The show we selected was $15/person (plus the 2 item minimum). Â Checking in to the show was a bit annoying, there was a massive line through the front room and no one seemed to know what to do. Â We were told seating started at 7:30, but it was much later once the huge line started moving. Â We were seated and decided to order food and drinks. Â Both were pretty bad! Â The food was mircowave-style (tried the chicken fingers and pork sliders), don't waste your time/money! Â The drinks were OK, but not great.
The room is large, with a tiny stage in the corner. Â It's an intimate setting, which is a fact that our headliner constantly brought up (he'd just come from Vegas where he'd filmed an HBO special). Â So after several comments about how small and crappy the club was, I started wondering why he was complaining to us (the people who paid to see him), rather than complaining to his manager for booking him in not-exactly-world-famous Old Sac. Â But logic has little do with comedy, so on with the review! Â The MC was reasonably funny, the opener was OK, but headliner actually was pretty good. Â Half way through his set, I started recognizing some of his jokes, and realized I had seen him on Comedy Central! Â So that was pretty cool.
All in all, we had a good time. Â What I'd suggest here is to bring friends, eat before you come, and use your 2 item minimum to focus on a drink or three. Â That makes everyone more funny.
I love Laughs Unlimited! Â My husband and I came out here a few Saturday nights ago. Â The MC, Headliner and main comedian was super funny!
We used to go years and years and the place was packed to the max, but when we were there a few weekends ago, they place was only a quarter filled. Â It is really sad that there weren't more customers. Â But, then again Laughs Unlimited is not cheap. We paid $20 per person for entrance and then there was an additional 2 drink min per person, so we ended up spending 60 bucks for an hour and half of entertainment. Â
Overall we had a great time and will be going back for sure..
Just came here with some girlfriends to watch my friend get on stage for his 2nd open mic experience. Â The bartender greeted us right when we walked in and was very friendly, which was awesome. Â The show got started late, and they kept having electronic issues but all in all, we had a great time. Â A few comedians were pretty horrid (I found myself thinking "what the hell do I do?" and trying not to look down or pick my nails) but the rest had me laughing and clapping in glee.
I stole a nacho here or there and they were alright for bar food, but this place has Shock Top on tap, yea-yuh! Â Service was a little slow once we were inside the back room, but I attribute that to the fact that our friend filled more than 3/4 of the house with his supporters! Â (They do give a 2 drink minimum once you're inside the back room, but since service was a bit behind I only ended up ordering one beer. Â Score!)
Go see Will Garrett, he's hilarious!
So get this: My 5th grade teacher recently retired from teaching, and she now tours as a stand-up comedienne. While I'd known about her new career for a while, I recently got to see her act for the first time, and the the friends I brought and I had a fun time.
L.U.'s front room is rustic, feeling a bit like an old west saloon, which fits the wooden boardwalk out front and the neighboring Old Sacramento businesses. I was disappointed that even the management acknowledged that 4 servers was minimal for the number of tables in the bar and the showroom in back; service was about as good as you could expect when understaffed - my server was polite and timely about bringing drinks out, but I DO recommend ordering in bulk rather than expecting to get several rounds. The showroom was solid, with good light and sound. It was disappointing that the emcee didn't bother to show up for the 8pm show; however, that meant we got more time from the comics.
The $20 ticket on a Saturday, combined with a 2-drink minimum, seemed a bit steep for the level of comics they present, especially when well drinks are $6.50. (Specialty cocktails are only a buck more.) In fairness, the 2-item minimum wasn't enforced when I was there, so I didn't feel overly exploited.
The big parking garage across the street, combined with modest street parking a couple blocks away, makes it fairly easy to travel. I do recommend taking stroll around Old Town after the show, perhaps to get dessert at Rocky Mountain Chocolate. That recommendation goes double if the bachelorette party of hotties in "little black dresses" leaves the club just ahead of you...
TRIVIA: Laughter is universal among all ages of all primates, strengthens social bonds, may improve heart and blood vessel health, and of course, feels good! Even more amusing, the study of laughter is officially called gelotology... perhaps because jiggling Jell-O looks like it's laughing?
I have been here a couple of times now and always have a great time.
I was not happy with the service at all on my last trip, staffing was soo inadequate! We did not order or receive our drinks until ONE HOUR into the show, on the last act. Â My mouth was so dry I started to develop a permanent smile! One of the waitresses came to our table and asked if we were her table...Are you really asking me that question? Don't you know what your tables are? Next time I'll just grab a drink at the bar before going in.
The opening and first acts told some of the same jokes I have already heard here before. Luckily, Jamie Kennedy was so hilarious that I can oversee the other deficiencies.
The comics last night were GREAT!
The place was PACKED for a Tuesday of all days.
Very cute venue!
The service? Not funny at all.
We had a blond for a server, and she lived up to the dumb blond stereotype, which put a damper on the evening.
Food orders took FOREVER to come out, and not at the same time, one order was brought out while the LAST comic was out. Drink orders FORGOTTEN with no sense of urgency to correct HER mistakes.
I missed parts of the show, because I was looking BACK to see when we could wrangle her and ask her where the hell were our drinks and food. An hour or more between drinks? Unacceptable.
The icing on the cake? We gave her cash, expecting change, and she never came back to give the change. We had to hunt her down! She assumed she was getting a 30% tip!?! Â Are you SERIOUS lady?
I gave her the benefit of the doubt and told my friends she must be a "new" waitress. And when we asked, she said shes been there for three years!! WOW!! She needs to find another line of work, because if she have not learned the ART of being a server, when the place is crowded ,then she needs to find another job ASAP.
Being that it was my first time at Laughs Unlimited, I was left with a very bad impression. I might be back, might not, but one thing is for sure, if Blondie is still there, and I'm seated in her section,I'm asking to speak to the manager to tell him about my last encounter, and move to another servers section.

I apologize to all of you that read Erin O's review. She is an ex-employee who was let go from Laughs twice, so I understand her anger toward our club. She should have reviewed her information before speaking, and she would have known that the old owner she was complaining about no longer owns the club.
The new ownership has been in place about 6 months, and they still continue to provide top notch entertainment, and showcase Sacramento's local talent. Please check this establishment for up coming shows.
Unlike the other 2 comedy clubs in the area, which do not allow for bar service (since the bar is part of the showroom) before or after shows, Laughs has a separate bar area for Thier guests to mingle and enjoy themselves until 2 am.
Laughs Unlimited is a great place for corporate parties and fund raising events.
Check Laughs out for St. Patricks Day weekend this weekend in Old Sacramento, there are many events going. Laughs will have a classic rock band on Saturday before the first show. We also have a Laughs favorite Cash Levy performing until Sunday, please call for show times and ticket prices, and if you have 10 or more people ask about our group rate. Next week Laughs will entertain the troops past and present, if you can prove you will in the military you can get into the show.
I haven't been to this venue in a long time but went last night. Our server was as good as it gets. Â She was attentive and got all of our orders straight including the waters.
The entertainment was top notch. I went with http://saccomedy.com meetup group arranged by Steven Bloom and it was an excellent evening. Â If you like comedy join this meetup group.
There is convenient parking for $5 across the street.
$15 at the door, 2 item minimum (drinks or food),....hmmm. Â I can understand the charges if it were a major headliners, but lets drop the 2 item minimum, I'm fine with the cover. Â It is smaller then most comedy clubs and the seating is alright. Â Drinks are pretty reasonable.....
Though the waitresses were probably doing their job, they were hovering around the tables a little too much. Â I ordered a few drinks and it was taken away before I was done. Â That goes for the folks around me too. Â I understand that they have a job but it seemed like they wanted everyone to finish their drinks because the act was almost over and wanted everyone out. Â A few people were upset, I understood why. Â I'll be headed to Punchline Comedy Club at Arden from now on. Â Laughs unlimited can keep their $5 acts and $2 service!
So ordinarily I'm not a huge stand-up comedy fan, I know I'm lame. I've had some crappy experiences before at other comedy clubs, so I knew to enjoy this one I'd have to be pretty close to drunk. Walked in with the boyfriend, ordered a drink and it went a little something like this:
Bartender: Hey guys what can I get you?
Boyfriend: Um two Greyhounds please..
BT: Awesome, now would you like more Grey than Hound?
ME: Pssht OF COURSE! (insert bf's omg here she goes look)
BT: That's what I like to hear! ...(pours vodka) Tell me when...
BF:OMG STOP!!! (insert me shooting bf dirty look)
BT:I'm feeling generous tonight ...
It was pure music to my hears. The drinks were awesome, inexpensive and the staff was really friendly and helpful. Totally soothed the soul, after I just got ripped for two drinks at Fannie Anne's. (20.00 for two vodi/redbulls that were WEAK)...The comedians we saw were HILARIOUS, and I actually am looking forward to returning and seeing more. See, I'm not so lame after all! :)
I've been to Laughs Unlimited several times over the past few years and I have never been disappointed. It's a small enough club that you get an intimate show- but large enough that the crowd can really let loose. They also get some great comedians and they always keep the prices really reasonable. I saw Steve Brewer here last weekend (he is amazing!) for just $17 a person.
The one thing I hate about this place is that you have to pay cash to get in, and you have to wait in line for up to an hour to get a decent seat. Once you are inside you can pay by credit card for your drinks and food.
I've had many, many laughs here. Â Even brought an ex-boyfriend to break up with him after the show.
Oh... come on.... he was laughing, loaded up on liquor, full belly of nachos.... about to lose the best thing that ever happened to him... it was PERFECT TIMING! Â What more could you ask for?
No seriously.... he cried way too much that night.. we ended it like 5 months after that attempt.
