My wife and I and quite a few of our friends were at Lemmons on 07/19/13. We arrived a bit early to see some bands play and decided to order a few drinks. First complaint is that when I asked for a drink that the bartender did not know, instead of being polite and asking how to make that he flatly said "I don't know how to make that" and went to walk away. Ok. I get that. You don't know how to make a certain drink, but how about asking the customer how to make it instead of being rude. After I finally got my drink (rum and coke) and my wife's drink (vodka, sprite and grenadine) we went to sit down and enjoy our drinks. Now I've been to my fair share of bars. I've drank some really bad alcohol, but this is the first time I have been to a bar where it tasted like they literally put water in their alcohol bottles. My rum and coke tasted like a small glass of coke mixed with some water. My wife's drink tasted even worse and when we started talking to our party, we found out one of the girls with us ordered a vodka and sprite and had the same exact problem. So much so that they took it up to the bar to return it and the bartender gave them trouble for saying it didn't taste good. Overall, a very horrible experience. We attempted to contact the bar privately via facebook, but we have received no answer so here we are.
Review Source:Went here for trivia night on Wednesday.
Really great trivia night. There are a lot of regulars and the trivia categories tend to be selected the previous week.Teams have the opportunity to win a free pitcher each round if they get the high score (there are 4 rounds) and they also get to spin the wheel for a drink special for the next round.
As for the venue itself, its a truly authentic dive bar. The decor and furniture are very authentic. There is no waitress service so you have to go up and get drinks/food (they do bring food to your table though). The pizza is chicago style thick cruct and pretty good. Most of the other food (including the wings I had) was pretty subpar.
Overall, if you are looking for an authentic dive bar with some character and great trivia, this is worth a stop.
Even though the majority of the ceiling tiles are water stained and the chairs are seemingly a mishmash of South City alley garbage, Lemmons is a great neighborhood bar. Â Highlights include STL's best bar trivia (Wednesdays and Thursdays), Black Thorn Pizza, a decent beer selection, shuffleboard, and foosball. Â If you can manage to not use the bathroom during your stay, you may be better off, but, let's not let a dingy bathroom deter us from a good time. Â Apparently, there are a lot of shows here too, but I have yet to attend any. Â Anyway, just another great bar bar in the drinking town that is St. Louis. Â Cheers!
Review Source:This is an update to my previous review. It's been a little while, but I've recently been back to Lemmons, and they've taken strides to improve their bread and butter: the music. They bought some better gear for their in-house sound system, and the effect is very noticeable. It's enough that I think it's worth kicking this place up to 4-stars. The sound is *much* better, now, and it makes things super awesome if you came for the music.
Review Source:Slowly becoming one of my favorite hangouts!
Lemmon's doesn't have a whole lot of appeal. Â In fact, it's a bit of a craphole. Â However, this aspect might add a little to its overall charm. Â If you're looking for a dive, South City is full of them. Â But Lemmon's is the dive of all dives!
Personally, I love how the management runs this place. Â It does a pretty good job appealing to both patrons and talent. Â As a musician, I've performed a few times at the pub, and I love how the people treat me. Â They try to keep things as fair as possible, and even if a musician doesn't make any money, the experience is still worthwhile because of the free beer and pizza!
As a patron, this place is pretty great, too. Â The main bartender is a swell guy. Â He could easily come off as a gruff jerk, but he actually does a pretty good job of taking care of us when we come by. Â We recently went to a punk show there, and it was a solid experience overall.
Did I mention that Lemmon's serves Black Thorn Pizza? Â Oh, hell yeah! Â However, it's slightly different from the stuff served in Tower Grove. Â Someone told me that it's Lemmon's version of the Chicago style za, but it's still pretty darn good!
They do have drink specials, but when they don't, the beer can get a little pricey. Â PBR and Stag run $2.75 regularly. Â Yes, I'm a cheapskate! Â They do have a nice beer selection, but it goes up from there.
Finally, it's a nice place to catch local talent. Â It ranges from metal to acoustic acts. Â On a good night, you might even see me on stage! Â The cover is usually pretty cheap. Â Local show covers have been getting out of hand, so it's nice to have a venue that doesn't overcharge at the door!
Like a good dive? Â Lemmon's might be your place.
Honestly  the place could use a face lift, having said that, this is one of my FAVORITE places in the City, The deep dish pizza is the best outside Chicago. (make sure you have time, each pizza takes 40 minutes to cook) They have plenty to do, Shuffleboard, and even board games. The live music on the weekends is hit or miss, but most of the time pretty good, and they do a improve night that I really enjoy (but the misses hates) It's a good bar with the Best Pizza in STL,(yes it's better than Pi ) They always have something going on, movie nights, trivia, improve, music, Just a great place to hang out.
Review Source:Been here on nights when music and crowd was great also been here on nights when it was awful. Typical of most bars in that aspect. Went to free concert night before Thanksgiving and see why it was free some of the worst music I have ever heard but will be back just will scout bands better
Review Source:Well-priced bar. Lots of fun events.
On Mondays they have movie night/buffet. You do have to order at least one drink, but you get to watch 2 movies as well as eat free pizza. You can get a bottle of PBR for $2.75. They also have beer on tap that's probably cheaper.
Went a few times to see local bands. Never had to pay more than a $5 cover charge. Their lot seems small, but I've never had a problem finding an open parking space.
I try to be as honest in my experiences as possible, so I understand if people have different opinions on this place. I found Lemmons to be, on my first and only visit, not worth the trip.
I went to Lemmons on Thursday night for Trivia. I've been to a number of bars in different cities for trivia before, and have things I like and dislike. I have to say this was one of my least favorite trivia experiences.
Taking pieces of the event, it sounds like it could be good. Free to enter, winners of each round get free beer, good prizes at the end, drink specials for each round. But the atmosphere was quiet and awkward. No one really was talking, there was no music played for the 2.5 ish hours, the host was extremely nice but not very lively. It is undoubtedly a local-event. The people who were consistently winning were obviously regulars. The questions were chosen in previous weeks by teams who were there, which sounds neat but yielded (at least for our team) impossible categories tailored to a very specific group that shows up every week.
The place itself is dive-bar-esque, but seems neglected. It's almost as if it had its heyday in being a music venue then slowly started peeling off the layers til we're left with the shell of something grungy.
For the record, we didn't try the food but the pizza looked delicious. They have a respectable amount of local beers as well. Unfortunately, the beer is pretty pricey: $10 for a pitcher of Bud Light is kind of outrageous a stone's throw from the brewery.
Maybe I was there on an off-night, but Lemmons offered me no reason whatsoever to return or recommend. If you live in the area and have a close group of friends that you only go to that bar ever, perhaps it'd be good. The locals seemed to know the bartenders well. But if you're looking for a fun night going out for drinks and some entertainment, there are many, many better options.
Free pizza and a movie... Why, yes I like both of these things. On a Monday night what else is there to do so what's the harm in going to a South City dive bar for free pizza? This is nothing fancy but some one-topping pizzas, meatballs and huge chicken legs - all for FREE along with a movie playing on a large TV.
I'm totally down.
This is the same pizza as Blackthorn but the crust isn't deep dish nor your typical St. Louis style cracker-thin crust. But it's just thin enough but gives you a bit of a doughy crust, too. I really liked the sauce as it had a bit of a spice yet a sweet little taste, too. No meatballs for me because I wasn't in the mood but the chicken legs? Oh, they're good. Nice and crispy skin but a sauce that was nice a peppery.
They have a $15 minimum when using credit/debit cards, luckily their ATM only has a $2 fee.
I certainly won't be returning to this place to make lemonade anytime soon...
A friend and I wanted to grab a few drafts and maybe something to eat on a quiet Sunday night. Â Why not try something new we thought? Â Here's why...
First off, on a Sunday night I don't want to pay a cover charge to set foot in a bar/restaurant. Â If I wanted to pay to see music I would have bought a ticket to one of the many great venues in the city and enjoyed a show. Â If you want to pay musicians to perform at your place make them pass a hat, don't make customers pay it. Â So with an already sour taste in my mouth we sat at the bar. Â Here we found the only redeeming quality to the place, a great bartender. Â She was extremely friendly, quick with a refill, and really really good at what she does. Â We ordered a medium pizza and after about 45 minutes later we ate. Â I have no idea why it took so long, there were only a dozen or so people in the place and none of them were eating. Â The pizza wasn't bad but nothing spectacular. Â We had the deep dish pepperoni that was mostly crust but they did use mozzarella cheese which is a plus in my book. Â We had one more drink and left before the "entertainment" even started. Â Overall I can't find much good to say about this place, save the bartender. Â If you want this kind of pizza and atmosphere, save yourself the agony and go the Blackthorn.
Lemmons is unique and disturbingly difficult to describe when attempting to conjure adjectives. Endearing, thrown-together, honest.
When you first walk in, the dining area feels like a cafeteria or rec hall that has been transformed into a bar for the night. There's a large TV at the front with an assortment of audio equipment. A small stage anchors the rear. Longhall tables with stacking chairs fill the dead space in between. A sunken bar lingers in the corner like a nearly-remembered thought, and opens further to additional seating and a wrap-around counter. Somewhat confusing and disjointed, but somehow sensible and right.
The pizza is incredible, although I don't recommend the Chicago-style. Being a Saint Louis boy, I love thin crust, and boy does their thin crust deliver. The sauce is delectable with a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The cheese is plentiful, but not burdensome. The toppings are typical and expected, but have enough variety to keep things interesting. And the crust -- I could eat the (thin) crust alone.
The bar features six or seven taps, some local and others standard. Mixed drinks and draught usually come in a plastic cup, and there are additional brews in bottles. Prices are decent. In my experiences, there aren't enough bartenders (usually one to service all patrons), which can sometimes lead to an annoyingly long wait, but otherwise the service is friendly and responsive.
Entertainment leans to the unusual, with normal features such as local bands and trivia, but also improv nights that are either hysterical or strange. Cover for these events is usually cheap.
Essentially, Lemmons is either a place you love or hate. Its dive-y qualities will charm those who enjoy the stranger things in life and offend those with more palatable aesthetics. It is, I find, an adventure worth taking.
Lemmons is the typical neighborhood dive bar with a twist. My first venture there was for happy hour. $2 drafts until 7pm...on a Friday....what? Yes, you heard that correctly. Good draft brands like Sam Adams, Schlafly and Guiness. Sign me up.
Since my crew got there early we had the back area with free foosball and shuffle board all to ourselves. Once the unsportsman like conduct concluded, we devored a deep dish sausage pizza, thin crust pepporini pizza and wings. The wings were AMAZING! The pizza was AWESOME!
I definitely want to hit this joint up on Mondays for movie night with double features at 7pm and 9pm. I heard there is trivia night during the week and there is live music on Fridays starting at 9pm with a cover charge. The satellite juke box has everything in it so Prince, Brittany, Peter Gabriel and Weezer made it into the evening rotation. Lemmons is going to be on my list of happy hours spots to kick it very often.
Free Pizza Buffet??? Yes = AWESOME!
Although you can check this place out anytime and order the wonderful Chicago style "Black Thorn" pizza or just come in to have a drink and play some shuffle board, Monday movie night w/ free pizza buffet is the time to go!
Every Monday (with the exception of football season) they offer 2 (often cult classic) movies that begin at 7 and the free pizza starts rolling out at 8.
Let me give a word of caution; do not go to the buffet starving unless you want to join the stampede as the first few pizza's are coming out of the kitchen.
I mean seriously, even though they bring out a new pizza ever 15 minutes or so, and in the end there is always plenty of food, you would think that the people running to get in line were just about to resort to cannibalism.
It's also a very amusing people watching experience to see everyone else, whose eyes are darting back and forth trying to be the first to glimpse the kitchen door being opened, sitting on the edge of their seats ready to pounce on whatever is brought out - pretty darn funny!
However, if you can stave off your hunger until the crowd has died down, you will be rewarded with a new pizza every 15 minutes or so (alternating between veggie & meat) in addition to meatballs and chicken wings, (which remind me more of chicken legs) along with what's sure to be an amusing flick!
Grungy, dank, dirty, scuzzy. Â Went for the first time to eat, would probably come back to eat but eat less. Â The food is terrific, the chicago style pizza (but with the cheese on top, not in the middle) has a great sauce. Â I played battle ship and won! highlight of my evening. Â They show movies on monday nights and have a free buffet that comes out around 830 but if you're not a vulture (and you aren't) then you probably won't make to the food in time. Â just get a pizza. Â and when you approach the teenage riotess behind the bar, pretend to be just as indifferent to her as she is to you--because if she's clearly not in it for the money, ur not in it for the food.
Review Source:My wife and I went to lemmons last night for the second time to see a band we both enjoy and it was just as terrible as the first. Â Both times we ate mediocre food that takes hours to get and drank beers that you nearly have to beg for......this place sux.
Last nights experience though promted me to write this review, here's how it went
. We walk in @6pm and join a few friends at the bar only to wait 20min. for the beer girl to shout at us "pizza's got a 1.5hr. wait" she obviously didnt want us ordering pizza so we ordered french fries and some beers........the beer did'nt get to us for another twenty min.... Â
So an hour goes by and we managed to get the girls attention to ask if our order made it to the kitchen, She looked at us like she would rather us leave and told us "YES" with an eye roll. Â
45min. later a shaggy lookin hippy wearing a knit sock hat walks up with our fries.....tosses them on the bar and says  "you order these"  I said  " maybe I ordered  them like an hr. and 45min. ago"  so he leans over the bar and says  "everybodies waiting that long for their pizza too"  I failed to understand  his logic because fries only take 3min. to make (I know I have a fryer)  And after all that the fries were "ok"  but come on nearly 2hrs for fries with a side of attitude.
I gave this place two chances and there wont be a third . There's plenty of great bars and restaurants in south city  and this is one of the worst.  To call this place a  "dive bar" is a complement.  If you dont mind dirty floors and restrooms  or rude and lazy hippies handling your food  this could be the place for you.
Improv Comedy every Tuesday hosted by The Improv Trick's David Imler. All St. Louis improvisers are welcome to join in on the jam. Â Only $1....that's what ya call a comedy bargain.
Great Pizza and wings. Â You could have a burger, but why? Â This is St. Louis' best Chicago style pizza.
Great trivia nights and movie nights, too.
Free pizza on Monday nights! Â They use the same recipes as Black Thorn does for their pizza. Â You gotta be a vulture to get some on busy nights but that's a nice touch. Â The bar is nice enough and the bartenders are decent but usually a bit busier than I'd like. Â Not my favorite bar in STL but I do like the place and would take friends there with no problem. Â I like their parking (I still hate street parking and they have a separate lot) and sometimes they have live music or other stuff going on.
Review Source:I've been to Lemmons three times now, but last night was the first time we tried their Monday "movie and free buffet" night. Â They play two movies, at 7pm and 9pm and the buffet start at 8pm. Â The cook serves up whatever his heart desires, from pizza to wings and meatballs. Â However, don't expect to get Chicago style pizza for free! Â The crust is neither thin nor thick.
We arrived around 8:15pm and things were pretty slow. Â I was starving and the only thing out was a cheese pizza. Â He bought the next pizza, sausage, out around 8:30. Â The pizza was really good. Â Nothing out of the ordinary, but being free it tasted even better. Â We had a few pieces and then waited to see what came out next. Â MEATBALLS. Â These were so good. Â I wish I had saved more room. Â Towards 9:30-10pm, he brought out some huge wings, but we were stuffed by then.
After a few beers each, our tab came out to $19. Â Not bad for dinner and a movie! Â My only suggestion is that they announce each week's movies on their Facebook page.
This place is kind of a disgusting gross dive with a lot of South City customers who are loud, irritable and like to give stink eye to other patrons. Â Don't let them scare you because at best this is a great place to order pizza to go. Â Be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour! Â It is worth it because this little dirt hole has the best pizza in St. Louis! Â It is a Chicago-version with super thick crust composed of crust, chese, crust, an awesome sweet and spicy sauce and then cheese. Â I have gone for a local comedy night before too and it get's really crowded so be prepared to have strangers sit at your table if you order a pizza. Â It is an experience to say the least.
Review Source:This place isn't too bad. It's a dive bar that is close to my house that I go to sometimes. It is extremely smoky in there so if you don't like smoke I wouldn't recommend going here. The table set up is weird as well, lined up banquet tables. Anytime I sit at them I feel like I should be playing Bingo with some gmas. Speaking of Bingo they have boardgames that you can play there (Battleship, Monopoly, Checkers, Etc.).
I never had any issues with Lemmons until last week when I was craving some beer, but then again I always previously ordered mixed drinks. I ordered Boulevard heat, don't have it. So I ordered Bud Light Wheat, don't have it. Fine, Coors Light, don't have that either. GRR PABST??!! Finally, they had something. So I'll be going to Lemmons for their pizza, board games, and improv but definitely not the beer. :)
Just changed their hours. They are now open until 3am.
Black Thorn Pizza. 'Nuff said. Â Except I'm going to say more. Â
I love Lemmons. Â It was my home away from home when I lived in this neighborhood. Â Now the pizza -- fantastic. Â I'm not a fan AT ALL of the thick crust style, but the Chicago deep dish and thin are great. Â Especially the Chicago style. Â It's about 2 inches thick so you won't leave hungry. Â I am a huge fan of the sauce, which has a spicy kick to it. Â I also like that they offer other bell peppers than green. Â Â
Other: Â VERY smoky bar, which cannot be avoided, unless you take your pizza to go. Â The atmosphere is definitely dive-y. Â Good beer selection, great happy hour prices. Â On Mondays they show movies and have a free buffet. Â You just have to get out of the way of the stampeding starving college students who watch like vultures for them to bring out the food. Â Trivia nights are packed and have interesting topics (although I haven't been there since the main trivia-guy died). Â Various decent bands later in the evening.
If you like Chicago style pizza then this place is for you. Â It is first and foremost a dive bar, without a doubt. Â However they have pizza that will knock your socks off. Â To top things off they have a respectable 12 beer taps and have trivia every weds/thurs.
The Deep Dish Pan style is a true 3/4" thick of crust. Â If you like pan style, it doesn't get much better than this! Â The Chicago style is layered but unlike true Chicago style the sauce is under the cheese like most pizzas. Â This is not even and issue, because when you order and eat in nothing beats when they bring your pizza out and its all gooey and melty. Â I won't even mention the thin crust, because with the previous two you shouldn't even need to order the thin.
Besides the pizza Lemmons has the best Hot Legs I've ever had. Â Not hot wings, but Hot legs. Â They do chicken legs in place of hot wings and the sauce they use is sweet, tangy and very peppery. Â I've eaten my way around St. Louis and have never had a sauce come close to what Lemmons puts in their legs.
Did I mention the tap line? Â Budweiser, Bud Light, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Sierra Nevada, Goose Island Honkers Ale, Sam Adams, Schlafly Pale Ale, Schlafly Hefeweizen, Newcastle, Guinness, Amber Bach. Â Yes, I am a beer enthusiast.
You may have heard the pizza is the same at Blackthorne pub, and it may be the same recipe but its not nearly the same quality. Â I've been to Blackthorne, ordered the pizza and they served it to me raw. Â Then when I told them it was raw they put it in the oven till it was burnt black. Â It was like a mouthful of charcoal. Â Plus the servers/bartenders are rude and act like they cannot be bothered. Â
Do yourself a favor and go to Lemmons. Â They know how to cook the food, I've never had anything come out burned or raw in the 5+ years I've been going there. Â Plus the bar staff is incredibly nice and attentive.
I went this past Tuesday for Improv Night! I must say honestly for $1 this is the MOST fun you will EVER have. The show was from 8-11 and they had different groups come up like the Bunk Bed Pizza Party Brigade. They did short and long form Improv.
Of course, I had to buy a Pizza since that is what Lemmons is known for! We ordered the flat pizza because my boyfriend doesn't like the Chicago style. Bad idea! I thought the pizza we ordered was ok....but I saw the Chicago deep dish and it looked REALLY GOOD.
Lemmons is a chill hangspot. They have a bar, shuffleboard, air hockey, and the stage area. It's a bit smoky but hey who really cares. I will definitely frequent here every Tuesday night for Improv. It's definitely worth the money and I'll try the deep dish pizza next.
Oh and they even have wifi....yippee!
Just in case you were curious the improv night is put on by Improv Trick.
Lemmons has some of my favorite trivia in the city for several reasons, let me explain why:
1. They run it 2 nights, Weds and Thurs at 8 pm. Weds tends to be fuller than Thurs which is fun if you have a big group and provides lots of competition. I prefer Thurs because it tends to be more relaxed, and since my "group" can consist of as little as 2... it gives me a better opportunity to win a round.
2. Prizes. It's free to enter, and they give a free pitcher of the beer of your choice to the winner of each round. Winners of the night get free pizza and beer... so not a bad deal.
3. Same as most trivia nights, there are drink specials including $2 pbrs.
4. The categories are hard. I say this as one who is super competitive and brought up the rear many times, but it seems there is a healthy mix of weird enough trivia that the only advantage that you will have is by bringing a highly diverse group. The trivia lady did a really shitty night right after the Oscars where is was ridiculous stuff like "only person nominated for best supporting actress who had a husband who died of syphillis." Not really... but you get the point. My friend and I were drowning a couple weeks back, then managed to sweep the "Norway" category, enabling us to have a free night (since it paid for the pitcher we split).
Trivia nights are the only time I tend to make it to Lemmon's, but if you're broke and want to try your hand at free beer... you've got a pretty good chance of hitting it here!
It's no secret that I love Black Thorn - both the pizza and the bar itself. So it's probably not a shocker to learn that I also am a fan of Lemmons. It took me awhile to actually get here (5 years in the city and this is my first time here - that's a shame!), but once I arrived, it felt like home.
I had been warned that the place is kind of dirty. And gross. And it is. But that won't keep me away. The pizza is delish, the drinks are cheap and the bands I heard on Saturday night were worth going back for.
Is this somewhere to take your kids? Absolutely not. If you're looking to entertain a younger crowd, go to Pizza-A-Go-Go. And yes, you will have to wait awhile to get your food, but that's just a small price to pay for the cheesy goodness that will be delivered to your table.
Four stars!
It's hard to rate Lemmon's; they have a lot of divey traits but also a pretty good beer selection. So it's hard to reconcile nice beer with smoke clouds and funky bathrooms. Though guys get to enjoy the disappearing floor-length urinal.
I used to eat the chicken here a lot, now I mostly go for beer and trivia. And whatever pizza we can win @ trivia. Play some shuffle puck afterwards, it's been known to turn best friends into bloodthirsty enemies.
I went to Lemmons to see a friend's band play last night and was really impressed. Â They have deep dish pizza ala Blackthorn (I guess they're owned by the same folks?) and great music.
Not only did I like my friend's band (duh) but I totally loved the other bands that played before and after them.  All were a  little bit different on the genre scale so it never felt redundant.
I will certainly head back to Lemmons (close to home, cheap drinks and good music!)
We love their addictive (although not entirely authentic) Chicago-style pizza. Â The crust is very flaky and crispy, and they fill it with so much cheese that removing a piece while it's still hot leaves a huge, stringy trail of cheese sticking to the tray. Â The sauce *is* a little sweet, but if you're not into that kind of thing they will go easy on the sauce for you.
Besides the pizza, there's something about their fries that is really addictive. They always come out piping-hot and super-crispy. Â Love 'em. Â Their beer selection, I would say, is better-than-average although not enormous. Â And the prices are generally quite good.
We used to go regularly for their trivia night, which is great. Â Free admission, and winners get free pizza and beer. Â We haven't been there in awhile, but when we went it would fill up pretty quickly and you would have to get there almost an hour in advance if you wanted to be guaranteed a good seat.
All that being said, the place is kind of dingy and smells like an ashtray. Â The service is pretty slow (they try hard, but they always seem understaffed), and if you want to order anything you have to go up to the bar. Â But in the grand scheme of things, those negatives aren't serious enough to change my mind about the place. Â (And if you want to avoid the slow service or the smokiness, you can always call ahead to order takeout.)
Me and a group of friends went to Lemmons the other night for the Trivia. Â We got there about 6:30 and got a good table. Â There were others there as well...securing a spot.
We ordered our pizza right away since it does take awhile....we ended up getting the pan style and it really was pretty good. Â Even if I'm totally starving I really can only eat one piece of the Chicago style ...if that.
The trivia was a lot tougher than we thought....categories like...Harry Truman and State Flowers threw us a bit, but we kept up. Â
The questions are all shown on a big screen TV so you can see them really well. Â
Make sure you think of a really funny name for your group since poor Sandy has to read them all out loud on the mic after each round.
We didn't win anything and had to leave right before the last round since most of us had to get up early for work....so not sure what happens at the end. Â
I will comment that the place was REALLY, REALLY smokey and maybe I'm a big wuss, but I'm getting a little spoiled going to the smoke-free places.
Ugh, this pizza doesn't even meet my low standards. Â The sauce was way too sweet, the italian sausage was unpleasant little balls of meat and the smoky atmosphere was unpleasant.
The chili fries were good, but they should call them "bean-fries" or something that better reflects the absence of, ya know, chili.
Won't  be going back.
The main purpose of going to Lemmons over the years, for me, Â has been Trivia nights (Wednesday and Thursday). Â I haven't done that in a while, but it is my favorite trivia night in town. Â You can win beer and pizza, and the questions are usually pretty fun.
Speaking of pizza, it's from Black Thorn and it's tasty. Â If you like pizza and you like free and you like watching movies that you can't really pay attention to because you are at a bar, check out the Monday movie night. Â It features free pizza! Â As people are often ravenous, you might need to fight off some other vultures for your free slices, but they keep 'em coming, so you'll get some food.
There's also live music with local and national bands.
First of all Lemmons is many things. It's a hang out, it's a pizza place, it's a bar, it's a live music venue. It's better at some things than others.
Food: the pizza is very good. Everything else? not so much.
Bar: well stocked but service can suck when they are busy. I think it's more a management problem than a individual bartender problem. I mean there is at least ONE really bad bartender--but thats still a management problem isn't it?
Live Music: Besides the pizza this is the reason to go to Lemmons. Despite appearances this is a really great place to see a band. It's small, the sound is good, and it just has a nice vibe for a music club. The stage lighting could be better, but seriously I love seeing bands here.
Lemmons is a perfect spot for the active drunk. Â This place distinguishes itself from the endless string of Gravois bars by constantly having things going on.
Every Monday is movie night (or Monday night football during the season). Â The kicker here is the free buffet. Â You read that right friends. . .free grub, no strings attached. Â Well, maybe one string. Â During the earlier hours, Â each new item added to the buffet is treated by the hungry patrons like a t-bone dropped into a tiger cage. Â I mean, people are knocking each other over to get to the free 'za and wings. Â If you determine that sprinting towards food like a crazed mom in pursuit of a Tickle-me-Elmo on the day after Thanksgiving is not your style, you can still order from the menu, or wait until the masses have been satiated and get your food peacefully (you have to wait 'til later for this to be an option). Â In any event, a place that allows me to watch Tron and eat free food is OK by me.
Wednesday and Thursday feature the best pub trivia in town. Â Some of the details have already been covered, but the beer and pizza prizes are great and the trvia itself is challenging enough to be interesting, but easy enough to keep everyone engaged. Â I once completely owned a "famous moustache" category. Â I mention this in case any potential employers are reading this and are in need of a guy who can identify John Oates by the 3 inches surrounding his upper lip. Â Call Me!
The weekends feature live music with both local and small-time touring bands. Â Every band gets a free pizza along with their pay. Â No big deal for those of us living right around the corner, but useful information for touring bands scraping pennies together on the road.
I should say at least something about the actual food at Lemmons.  The pizza is good, with the deep dish being the standout.  I suppose David G. is correct about it not being a true Chicago style, but whatever:  it is seriously thick and it tastes damn good.  Just be careful.  I once made the mistake of following a Lemmons deep dish dinner with a Ted Drewes concrete and went into a four day coma.  Seriously people, don't eat more than one  slice (two if you are really hungry) of this unless your calendar is empty and you can drink a gallon of water and sleep it off.  Be prepared to wait for this pizza after you order it.  A LONG TIME.
Lemmons is always a good time.  Occasionally, the bar service seems a bit overwhelmed and those pizzas sometimes move from understandably slow to ridiculously slow, but if your friends are lame and you need activities to prevent you from having to hear more about their jobs or dogs or kids or whether or not  a lightsaber can cut through Superman (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgizmodo.com%2F351747%2Fcan-a-lightsaber-cut-through-superman&s=7aff01fe0b05d6b06bdd085cbbb36088feddbc11285834c3da9ebd9c1dc6ec10" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://gizmodo.com/35174…</a>), Lemmons is hard to top.
Lemmons located right off of Gravois Avenue is one of my favorite places to go for pizza and beer. Most of the time, or rather all the time, when I go there I go with my friends for their trivia night that they host.
Lemmons trivia night is one of the best nights to go there to enjoy some of their home style pizza that is nice and thick with the cheese still hot and running when it comes out nice and fresh. Of course, by chance or rather it could be luck or maybe skill, we have never paid for any, except for our first round of drinks.
The nice thing about Lemmons and their trivia night is that if you win around you will receive a free pitcher of beer. Then for the over all placement of each team at the end of the night to receive a free case of beer, a free large pizza, or a free small pizza, of course, you have to come back the next time to make use of them, which is perfectly fine for me.
I love Lemmons. I'm a regular at their Wednesday (and now Thursdays too) Trivia Nights, which is free to play. My team (the Squids) have won many-a rounds and games, prizes of which including free pitchers and cases of beers and free pizzas. They usually have a free-buffet on Monday nights which coincide with football or movies being shown on the TV, depending on the season.
The food: Their Chicago Style Pizza is better than the likes of many I've had IN Chicago. Simply amazing and one slice will get you full (though with beer to wash it down I'll attempt 2). Note however that it takes awhile for the pizza to be ready - anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes in my experience. Worth the wait, my friend.
Their hot wings are seriously hot, but not in the red fire sauce that traditional wings are smothered in. Lemmons' wings are in a unique dark tangy pepper sauce which is full of heat but has a little sweet. That sounds like a slogan! If you can handle them I highly recommend em.
The jalopeno poppers are delish also.
Beers - Lemmons has several on tap and a couple of spots for seasonal beers which is always nice. The prices are average there, with good happy hour specials. They do have Guinness on tap but if you're a snob like me I say pass - it's not very fresh.
Lemmons has shuffleboard, foosball, and bubble hockey upstairs, and a few billiard tables downstairs.
Live music and pizza. All in the same place. How much does that rock?
First of all, Lemmon's is very open to booking local bands, as well as bringing in regional bands on small-scale tours. Â You never know if you will be watching a crazy progressive St Louis band, or a rocking band from somewhere like Nashville, Cleveland, or Chicago.
The vibe there is very laid back, and very subculture-neutral. They show Monday-night football, they also have goth nights. They have trivia tournaments and poker. The stage is small, but easy to see, and there's a generous dance floor space between the tables and the stage. Â There's also a bar seating area off to the right side of the room, so you can enjoy a drink without being in the way of the band crowd.
The pizza is good and greasy. Make no mistake, it's drinking food. The wings and other appetizers are equally bar-tasty-tastic. Prices are on par with normal bar food anywhere else.
