Looking for a great, local happy hour? Be sure to check out LEW'S in Waldo. I was thrilled to read a fellow yelpers review and find out that happy hour went until 7:00pm; my kind of happy hour (especially since it was already 6:00 when we decided to head out)!  I was pleasantly surprised when I entered, not what I'd call a "dive," as described by some...more of a cool, local hangout. There are lots of tv's, sports memorabilia, exposed brick walls and even an old school cigarette machine! The place was bustling with a variety of clientele - those in suits, families and even a a group of birthday revelers. I immediately knew that LEW'S  was going to be a place I'd return. The happy hour specials were plentiful and there was a free appetizer (spinach dip) for Yelp check in! Our original intention was to just have a happy hour drink and head home, but every order of food that passed by our table looked awesome. We ended up ordering the colossal wings, and that they were! Pretty amazing, just be prepared to get messy. I didn't try the fish and Chips, but saw enough orders come out of the kitchen (and empty plates return to the kitchen) that I feel safe suggesting them - they looked amazing. If you're in search of a cool place to catch a ball game, grab a happy hour, or enjoy some good bar food, I would say LEW'S is the place to consider.

I really wanted to like this place as soon as I walked in the door.  The server brought us our drinks right away and our appetizer came out lightning fast.  That's the extent of the good experience.

We waited over 20 minutes for a medium rare Inside Out Black & Bleu Burger and a Homewrecker Hot Dog.  We were splitting the hot dog and the burger so we asked that the burger be cut in halt.  The whole reason I ordered the burger was because I had seen an inside out burger on the Food Network and I was very happy to see one on their menu.  They didn't bother to tell us that if you split it, they won't make it inside out.  So I waited 20 minutes for something I didn't want.  The server claimed she didn't know, and the kitchen didn't bother to double check with her before they made it.  We split the hot dog and zucchini fries and sent the burger and sweet tater tots back.  I didn't want to wait 20 minutes for another one to be made...medium rare should take 10 mins or less.

Once the server got a couple of other tables, everything else seemed to take forever (ie. getting the check, paying out, etc.).  We still gave a very generous tip, because it really wasn't her fault about the food, but the lack of accountability between the manager, the kitchen, and the server was annoying.

It looks like a fun place to watch sports and enjoy some good sports bar food if you're in that mode.  Too bad the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.  I'd go back to watch a Royals game and hang out, but I will go in prepared for the servers to know nothing and the kitchen to take forever.

TIP:  Check in on Four Square or Yelp and get a FREE Spinach Dip.  It is pretty good and it comes out fast.

One time I caught my boyfriend lying to me about where he was because he came home and smelled distinctly like Lew's. True thing. Your pants and shirt get sort of stinky from the fryer, but...

FROM THE FRYER COMES THE MOST DELICIOUS HOMEMADE CRINKLE CUT CHIPS! Seriously. After a long night of Das Boot festivities, I needed food or else I was going to Das Boot. But not just any food. I needed potato chips. Ruffles, to be exact. And my server told me they made their own ruffles. She brought me some. And the angels sang.

Anyway, Lew's is solid and pretty chill and usually not chock full of fratty broskis, especially on a weeknight. And those chips! Damn fine.

This is where the Badger  fans gather, so bonus points right there. Standard beer bar with drink specials daily and food. What's not to like? In a strip mall with Aldi.

You haven't been to Lew's until you've had a boot.  Thursday nights is a special for them and it's always a good time.  The dip is amazing too.

A general all around cool bar. Food is a little pricey though. I admit though I don't know their daily specials...

Lew's is a great choice for a neighborhood bar.  The specials are great, they have a really great beer selection and the food is actually pretty decent (catfish paws...yum).  I also love the space - nice little pub with lots of booths and high top tables.  Wish they had a better outdoor space and some lighter food options aside from the salads.  But definitely a great place to have a drink(s) in the 'hood!

Gotta love happy hours. Half off appetizers, $2.50 wells and $2.50 beers until 7pm. You really can't go wrong with that. Try to grab one of the booths if you can...they're extremely roomy so you don't feel like you're smushed in like sardines.

PS - Check in via 4-square and receive free espinaca dip =)))

My friend, stuart, already explained the situation. Waited for 35 minutes for fried onions. She lied to me, admited she lied, laughed, continuted to look ugly and stupid and tried insulting me by telling me if they didnt get it right its not their fault its mine...i explained that I didnt stutter when i ordered and i confirmed my order and its not my job to make sure the workers get the order 100% right. THATS WHAT YOURE THERE WORKING FOR, YOU THREE BITCHES. The manager actually was one of the better ones ive ever seen with the way he handled it, meaning, he understood that he hired a bunch of high school drop out single moms filled with hate &regret. Overall, horrible experience for watching ksu football. I wish I had enough time on my hands to file with the better business bureau.

Had a quick beer here with a friend yesterday. I walked in and was surprised. This place has a cozy feel of a Irish pub. They had cute Christmas stuff out as well. You feel at home here because it is not enormous. It is long and narrow and that keeps it cozy. Plenty of monitors if sports are your thing. The staff was super nice entering and exiting. I will have to come back here to try the food. : )

Lew's is one of those great neighborhood bars that not a lot of people know about. They have awesome burgers and sandwiches. Its a great place to go for a beer on the weekends because it is normally busy enough that you can have a good time meeting new people, but it is not so busy that you can't move and it takes 30min to get a drink. I've never meet a rude waitress or bartender and have chatted with the owner on occasion. They also have "das boot" so if you are feeling adventerous I recommend giving that a shot.

One of the best Waldo bars. Great place to watch the game while enjoying a reasonably priced drink menu. If your hungry you can not go wrong with a burger or anything off the appetizer menu.

One of my favorite bars in KC.
Great servers and one of the best management teams in all of the city. This is a must visit for those in the Waldo Area. They care about the customer.

Great neighborhood bar! I love that from my house, I can just drive down a couple of side streets and I'm there in like 3 minutes.

We watched the KU game at Lew's last night and sat in one of the big, private booths towards the back - had our own tv and everything! Just steps from the restrooms without having to fight through the crowd. It's like being at home, but with bar snacks and someone to bring you beer!

The crowd is fairly down to earth, mostly folks from the area, and some college kids. Later hours on the weekend, it can get a little rowdy, but I'm usually just there to watch some basketball. I guess at 32 I'm getting old or something.

The food is tasty, nothing out of this world, just good solid bar food. I like the wraps, and they have a monster pork tenderloin. Good drink specials, and Das Boot, of course. If you have read any of my other reviews, you'll know that good service is a make or break for me. The service at Lew's is always good, even when they are super busy.

It's one of my favorite bars in Waldo, for sure!

Great place for a local bar. I like to come over here to enjoy some drinks and laughs. They even have old style in the can. Remember the das boot from beer fest? YES you can get that here, they also specialize in a great pineapple infused shot, GET ONE

At first glance Lews appears to be your typical run of the mill sports bar. Lots of TVs, Bud Light and Frat boys. But get past that and you will find a great Waldo watering hole. Amazing food and an even better staff. A couple of good video games plus an outdoor smoking areas also a nice added touch. And I don't know that they want this advertised but they are also very dog friendly. Every once in a while I see someone having drink out front and there appears to be a water bowl supplied for dogs.
The 2 very minor complaints would be that it's slightly over priced and the crowd gets a bit rowdy. The fine food and staff far out balance this though.

Lew's is a decent sports bar. Nothing about it strikes me as amazing, but it was an A-OK joint. And if you are into Das Boot, this is your spot.

Ah ... Lew's is my kind of bar. I'll never order one but any bar that offers beer in a boot is a-ok in my book!

The laid back atmosphere is exactly what I want in a grill/bar. It's a great place to hang out for decent bar food, beers and chatting with friends. None of my entrees have been spectacular, but none have been bad! (Though the boyfriend does swear by the meatloaf sammie.)

They do offer Turbo Tots on their appetizer menu ... please do yourself a favor and try these. Thank me later ... They're basically tator tots filled with cheese and peppers. If these don't sound good to you, we probably wouldn't make very good friends.

It's also a soccer bar ... as much as an American/KC bar can be, anyway. So if you're looking for a good place to catch some World Cup matches, head to Lew's!

I'm not a beer drinker but I went because Lews' hamburgers came highly recommended.  My friend was right--the cheeseburger I had was the old-fashioned kind that requires one napkin per bite to wipe your hands.  But I've had really good hamburgers elsewhere, so that wasn't enough to seal the deal.

The french fries, however, were--some of the very best I've had, with a satisfying crispness to them (instead of being limp and pathetic).  The fountain drink could have used a higher ratio of syrup to carbonated water, but hey--it's a bar, not a soda fountain.

Lews rocks!  Staff and food are great and trivia on Wed nights is awesome!

What can I say? My buddy Jason loves this place. His love for it has spilled over to me too. Anytime we want to catch a game and grab a drink, Lew's always comes up - usually first.

We usually opt for the private tables in the back. Is there anything better than your own private flat screen and immediate access to the restrooms and dart machines? If so, I haven't found it. When the place fills up-and it will on game night-try to snatch one up early. You'll be glad you did.

Drinks are fairly affordable but I think they could be a little cheaper. Seems a bit much for not being downtown. But sometimes, I can be a cheapskate. It's all about location and Lew's is really just your neighborhood bar and grill. Service and food have always been tolerable if not well done.

Great nights are always had for me here so hit it up.

Lews holds a special place in my heart because this is the place I was at when KU won the national championship this past April. That being said, it is also a great little neighborhood bar that serves the best hamburger i have ever had.

The waitresses are always quick and attentive and the drink specials are always cheap.

The Hawaiian burger is a large juicy beef patty covered in cheese, barbecue sauce and a pineapple. It is a great combination and was a pleasant surprise when I first ordered it, as I had lowered my expectations in anticipation of prototypical "bar food".

Lews is a great after work drink spot or a laid-back, but still fun and alive watering hole for the weekends.

Lew's is a sports bar in Waldo, Lew's is a great place to catch a game or play trivia on Wednesday nights.  When I went to Lew's we sat in the back booths that boast their very own flat screens for what feels like a private viewing of whatever sporting event you care to.  The back also contains a game room including Golden Tee and Lucky Strike bowling.  I ordered the mini-burgers last time I was there and washed them down with a Bud Light, it was a perfectly relaxing night out.

I love this place - what can I say! It's within walking distance of my house - which always brings a spot up a notch in my opinion. So - if you live in the Waldo area, you're in luck. This bar has to be my husband's and my nightcap haven. We always seem to end up here after we've eaten out or if it's late and we need to grab some quick bar food and a beer. (They're open until 3 a.m. and serve food until midnight.)

It's nothing fancy, at all, but it just feels like home. Tall, round oak bar tops with stools for seating, juke box and arcade games. Lew's has it all!

Plus, they have TVs, so if you want to watch a game while you imbibe, it's also set up for that. They recently added a garage door up front on one side, which seems to be rampant in Kansas City lately. I think it's a way to get around the smoking ban, but who knows? It doesn't really add a whole lot to the place. Plus, the only people who could enjoy it are the people sitting at the one table in front of it or loitering outside. And who wants to sit next to an open window when it's summer in Kansas City. Not me, thank you very much.

But I digress...If you're looking for a good ol' bar hangout, then this is your place.
