Just grabbed a cream of wheat.  Waitress was sweet and nice.  They play Christian music on klove.

Yep, it's dated and the fox tchotchkies they have all over the place are dusty and a bit silly but...they have the best bacon It'smokey, slightly sweet, thick cut and darn good.  They also make great rye toast.  I don't know where they get their rye loaves from but the slices are friggen huge.

Their turkey melts are good too.  They use real sliced turkey, not the slimey, icky deli turkey.

The coffee is a bit weak but they have solid diner food.

So we were there for a late Saturday Bfast, without reading reviews :S
This place was friendly & casual, constantly full of customers (which is a good sign) our food came in pretty quick & drinks were quickly refilled. Food portions were pretty big for the $, but nothing fancy.

My veggie omelette tasted pretty good, my husband had strawberry waffles but had canned strawberries :(

One thing that bothered me the most was the awful greasy SMELL, not to mention carpet was sticky dirty, our booth's padding from top coming off, dirty chairs, dusty foxes, even cutlery wasn't washed properly :(

anyhow I hope they improve soon cuz they could do a lot better with their location.

Ned Flanders, the sanitized next-door neighbor from "The Simpsons," once said that his favorite flavor was not vanilla but "plain."

Ned would feel right at home at Fox Restaurant.

Fox sits at the apron of downtown Lisle, which is less boring than it looks from Ogden Avenue. Situated next to a tarot card reader, Fox sticks to its theme, with fox statues at tables and fox artwork on the walls. Our waitress wasn't a fox, though. S'alright. Too early for cheesecake.

The menu was big, like any other Greek restaurant. As we came during brunchtime, pancakes (for my wife) and a skillet (for me) sounded right. But they didn't necessarily taste right. They weren't as off-putting as the smell that grabbed my nose in the front half of the establishment, but they weren't that appealing either.

My wife's peach pancakes were expectedly large, but the peaches were diced and from a can, lacking in flavor, and unsatisfactory. They were "peach pancakes," just as the menu promised, but there was no love there. A very reductionistic meal from a literal menu.

My skillet had chicken in it, along with fewer-than-expected veggies, potatoes and a combination of cheeses, or so I was told. I've never seen such a bland-looking skillet before. It was monochrome. Some green pepper or tomato on top of the seas of cheese would've livened up the dish. Or maybe I should've shook hands with beef instead of chicken. (Or had a pork soda? Ugh. I'm out of Primus references. But that's way too exciting a band to mention here. Know any good Bread songs?)

The accompanying English muffin was overtoasted, taking away any chewy quality. But hey, at least this way, it was a different color than the skillet.

I guess it was okay, but nothing grabbed me enough to bring me back. It was just there. It was just blah, but not cheap enough to be allowed that level of blahness.

When I'm much older and don't want "too much flavor" in my food, this place may offer comfort to me. But they better upgrade to vanilla by then.

    Why did we go there?

    Because it was open.

We attempted to hit up Eyes to the Skies and they literally closed the whole festival down. We found ourselves stranded and were hungry. And not only that, but a storm was imminent. We headed down Main Street for lunch on that Sunday and attempted John Dough. Closed. Yerbabuena. Closed. Finally, as the clouds literally started to roll in and we were left with nothing but ourselves and our 4-month old in his stroller, we walked into Fox.

It only had a slight scent of cigarette smoke from way back when. Despite being a frosted-glass and puke pink decorated joint, the meal wasn't terrible. It wasn't good from my standpoint, but anyway. It's a diner.

My husband said, "Good news! You have another place to Yelp about! And you better give this place at least 3 stars." Hahahha.

So here we are. Three stars. My grilled cheese was none other than the obvious Kraft single you peel from the plastic and lucky me! It came with some creamy chicken and rice soup that was bigger than my sandwich. My husband was a fan, but he's known to have low standards for such things.

No changing station in the bathroom. I notice things like that...

What is this? I not only went out on a limb and ignored the 3 stars here on yelp, but I completely disagree with it? That's right. YELP IS WRONG. Completely wrong. Sorry Yelp, don't mean to call you out. You know I still love you!!

Lisle Fox needs to be looked at for what it is. Its a greasy spoon breakfast place. And its great. Service is just so friendly but not annoying as it so easily could be. Pancakes are made with a special flour that makes them just dense enough to soak up the syrup and keep the flavor of the cake. The skillets are so so good (try the greek with tzatziki sauce or the meat lovers!)! I can't stop getting them. I've had bites of their omelets - cooked perfectly. All are packed with flavor and fresh ingredients. I'm so glad this is just outside my doorstep. Yes - its nothing too inventive. You won't find me taking pictures of my food because its not art in the sense of beautiful to look at... but it is art in my tummy, for sure! :) Its a perfect Sunday morning greasy spoon breakfast though, so don't overlook this great family owned place.

Below average....and that stinks because I had hope for this place.  Only been in once, will try it again.  I left there smelling like cooking oil....bot a fan of it yet.

I've been looking for a breakfast place in Lisle, besides Gramma's, and this is my new place.  I got the country sausage skillet with the eggs sunnyside up, rye toast and coffee.  Skillet was hot and flavorful.  They don't go crazy with the cheese and the potatoes were perfectly crisp.  The rye toast was real thick and was delicious with butter and grape jelly with a coffee chaser...  my waitress was great too.  So nice, I wanted to call her Flo.  The coffee on its own was standard diner coffee.   Im coming here every Sunday morning after my late Saturdays at Maple Pub..

My boyfriend and I want to Fox after driving by tons and tons of times...It always seemed crowded, so we figured it'd be a good place for some home-cooked breakfast. I hate giving negative reviews, but I'd be a much happier camper if I never went back. From my first step inside, I was a little nervous. The place is run down and in great need of improvements. The booths were dirty (upolstry) which was unsettling from the get-go. I'm not a restaurant snob by any means, but I do appreciate a CLEAN eating atmosphere. Also, the smell reminded me of a musty old basement .. also, not great when eating.

The staff was friendly, and the service was ok. The food was nothing special, but I couldn't even try and enjoy it because I was nervous about the cleanliness of the dishes, cups, silver wear.

Don't get me wrong- it wasn't an awful experience, but I won't be back. If you're looking for a good breakfast in the area, I'd recommend driving up Ogden to Butterfield's or to Egg Harbor.

Stopped in for breakfast with my dad.  The food was pretty good and there was plenty of it.  The service was quick, attentive and friendly.

The service was the best part about this place. Now for the rest of the story:

I was there for breakfast and I had the waffle with a side of sausage links. The waffle was bland - I didn't think that was possible, but it really happened - it tasted like vaguely sweet nothing. As for the sausage, it faintly tasted like the sausage you get from McDonald's with less flair. I got hot chocolate with it and it tasted mildly like coffee - since I'm not a coffee drinker, this was not a good development - so I don't know if they use one machine to do multiple things and it hadn't been cleaned or what.

As for my wife's breakfast, she got eggs, hash browns, white toast and bacon. She said the eggs were ok, but the hash browns were bland and, even with salt and pepper, persisted in their bland-ness. The toast was more like a slice-o-bread than anything as it was soft and not, well, toasty. The bacon was cold and so over-cooked I could swear it was carcinogenic.

And now for the crowning achievement of our visit: the coffee. I was so watered down that areas of my wife's cup looked clear. She added flavored creamer and sugar and it tasted amazingly like sugar and creamer and not really like coffee. We saw a guy come in just after us with a large Starbucks coffee - he must have been a regular and given up on their coffee a long time ago.

All said and done, I won't be going back and, though the food came out fast, if it tastes bad, it doesn't matter. I was pretty surprised that there were so many regulars - I felt bad that apparently these people didn't know that there are much better breakfast places around - pity.

Holy cow! Fastest breakfast I've ever had! I had a hair appointment right around the corner at the Randall Brent Salon. I only had about 10 minutes to spare and I was really hungry. I decided to pop in and see if I could get my breakfast to go. They sat me down at the bar and the waitress brought me a water. I was like, "Oh, I'm ordering to go." She said, "I know, I just thought you might like a water since it's so hot out. " Wow! That's some small town hospitality! They literally had my breakfast cooked, packed and ready to go in about 3 minutes! I paid and flew out the door and even had a few minutes to chow down before my appointment. Niiiiice. Really cute typical "mom and pop" breakfast type place. I was so impressed with the fast service, I'm thinking next time I'll leave even earlier and get there to actually sit down and have breakfast!

Lousy food - had the corn beef and my friend had the rueben sandwich. Place is a dump. The owner and his friend sat all the while watching soccer from Greece. Not worth going to have lunch.

The Fox is a very average restaurant but a very nice average restaurant.  We had breakfast.  The omelets were plain and simple, the coffee had good flavor if a little weak, and the hash browns were excellent.  The whole wheat toast was the kind that looks like white bread with brown food coloring added.    The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Nothing pretentious here!   If you're in the neighborhood, stop in and you'll have a very good average breakfast experience.

A week before thanksgiving means one must exercise the stomach. Good thing the Fox has enormous portions (hungry man skillet is massive).

    I'm a fan!

Nice little breakfast place. Staff and owner were very friendly. Service was very quick. Food was good except for the sausage gravy. It was made with chicken bullion base which gave it a funny after taste. Everything else was exceptional.

We will return but I will skip the biscuits and gravy next time.

The Fox has pretty good food. I always go in for breakfast and it's always hot and fast. The prices are also decent, so you won't drop a paycheck for bacon and eggs. In other words, it's a typical family-run diner. Don't go in and expect anything fancy. The decor is little dated with fox theme knickknacks everywhere. But the service and food make up for it. By the way, who is really looking around when you are shoveling food into your mouth at 9am?

The menu is pretty diverse and you can find practically anything to satisfy your tum-tum. Definitely a great place to indulge in a little comfort food. One bad side is the parking lot can be cramped with all the old man Cadillac's filling it up. I nearly took out their sign by backing up my car. So be aware of that.

I LOVE THE FOX! Great breakfast, great service, good coffee, and a friendly staff. I have been going here forever and have yet to find a place comparable to here!!
