Great craft beers! Though, I'm skeptical about the quality of the beers shelved. I go for the fresh local stuff like Sculpin or other Ballasts because THEY ARE DELICIOUS and also because I know there is a rapid turnover which means mmmmm good... I tried a Monk's Cafe Flemish Ale from there just recently and it was not in good condition. I had tried it previously from another store about a year ago and it was super effervescent and full of body. The best I can describe the recent one is - flat. AND THIS MAY NOT BE THE FAULT OF THE LIQUOR STORE! I realize that, but its worth mentioning; insert grain of salt here! I also like that they have a few craft sodas like Ginger beer by Bundaberger (I think this is the brand name). . Found Coronado's Sock Knocker here a few days ago but heard they are already out !
OK, here is the BEST part about Liticker's... There is a Mexican food place inside the store! I was SUPER skeptical the first time I went, but they actually have some of the best selection for a fast food Mexican shop. It's varied in selection and there are a couple salsa that are really delish on their salsa bar, nice spice but not burning. The only thing I've tried that was not good is the rojo enchiladas. The sauce is WAY too salty, and I'm not an anti-salt person. It was just too much. The service is so-so. Sometimes really nice and attentive, other days a little off. Its ok though, its still a great neighborhood Mexican joint.
Hi!
Are you looking for a bomb diggidy mex spot with an abundance of unique veggie options? Well you found it here! Really good food. Everything made fresh. Usually there is only one person running the show so don't go here if you need your food out in 5 mins. It's located inside the liquor store so it's a little different. They recently revamped the place with a face lift inside and new bigger table outside.
Check it out.
OH they have an array of hot sauces to die for. From mild and tasty to mouth scorching-ly flavorful.
Liticker's is a great store and has a wide variety of products that suit your everyday needs ranging from beverages and snacks to even a small Mexican taco shop. The food is great and the workers are really kind and helpful. Litickers has everything you need and you should definitely stop by .
Review Source:I'm sorry, but I need to flag this place as downright shady. Â I popped in for something quick and went to pay with my credit card. Â They quickly added a 50 cent credit card fee and began to run my card. Â When I said I guess I could just pay cash (to avoid the fee), it was apparently too late. Â Half a buck isn't worth making a big deal over, but did lock them into a one-star review and a place I recommend you avoid.
Review Source:The food and service are excellent, best salsa in San Diego. The problem about San Diego is that everywhere you go and get mexican food there is only 2 types of sauce, green or red, here they have everything from habeñero to classic avocado salsa. One of the best local mexican food spots in Diego.
- One Love O.B.
I eat here more than I care to admit. Â Is it gourmet? Â Nope, it's a liquor store. Â But is it fast, filling, and reliably tasty? Â Definitely. Â My favorite "fast food" in OB. Â Great breakfast burritos, tasty little TJ tacos, and damn decent tortas. Â 3 star food experience; always there in a pinch. Â
The liquor store gets the bonus 4th star added to the review for having a really good selection (including arak) and good prices. Â And the staff here are all cool and friendly.
Everything a liquor store needs to be. Good beer selection, good wine selection, and a burrito shop right inside. They also have their own parking lot which is great in a neighborhood like OB.
Even when I'm not looking for booze I often come here just for the food. The burritos are really good, they have all the ingredients, and they have taco deals on Tuesdays.
I really wanted to like this place.... Â Unfortunately they just couldnt live up to my expectations. After this last experience I will never go back. I decided to try their lobster and marlin tacos I always see advertised when I walk by. Don't do it! Uuugh... it was a greasy mess of who-knows-what-kind-of-seafood smothered in some nasty creamy sauce with heaps of lettuce. Not at all what I was expecting nor would I ever reccomend to anyone. All I could taste was grease and foul fish. Yuck! & to top it all off the julian hard cider I picked up to wash it down with was flat and obviously past its expiration date. Sorry Litickers but this was an epic fail!
Review Source:Talk about unexpected! Â We came here out of desperation for food, any food, and were pleasantly surprised with what we got.
I ordered two carnitas tacos and one shrimp taco. Â I ordered three for myself picturing the small street-size tacos. Â Oh no, these were man-size tacos. Â Luckily, I had my partner in crime to help me out. Â
The shrimp were well seasoned and plentiful. Â The carnitas had the perfect crust, and all of the toppings were fresh. Â We were very happy with the full meal we ended up with and our next stop won't be by accident!
Every time I visit San Diego, I have made it a habit to come here at least once for breakfast. You would never know that this place has such great breakfast that keeps you full for most of the day. Even their vegan food is really good, and I'm no vegan.
Aside from their food, they also have a great selection of liquor. You would never know this place existed unless you happened to walk by it or were already set to go there.
What an unassuming little place! You would not expect there to be a wonderful Mexican joint on the inside of a liquor store. We had some sort of carne asada burrito, which was delicious. It might have been the booze talking, but the freshness of the ingredients was unmistakable. There was a sauce bar with tons of different types of sauces to put in the burrito. HEAVENLY!
Review Source:It's always the little hidden places you would never expect right? Delicious food!
My boss claims their breakfast burrito is the best she's ever had! I'm a fan of the Veggie Delight with a little cheese. It's huge, so I usually eat half and have leftovers later.
Quick service, delicious food, and right down the street! Who knew?!
I should have written this review so long ago. Now that I'm in PB instead of OB I miss this liquor store soooo BAD! I love San Diego breweries & this gem has all the local shit ;D they have a huge selection of rollingpapers, wine, & their swishers are ever dry. Oh well.. only a 10 min drive but used to be a ten min walk. There's a pretty decent taco shop inside open all hours & laundry across the street. Awww I miss OB!
Review Source:Such a disappointment. I was so excited to try the tacos here after all of the rave reviews.
The fish was WAY over seasoned and they used a a ton of chunky tomato-based salsa so all I could taste was salty tomatoes.
On the upside, I saw the fish grilled to order. Â That's always nice.
Went here because a friend was raving about how great this place is and it ended up being just awful. Â I ordered a machaca burrito and my husband had a carne asada burrito and we were nothing more then disappointed. Â
The machaca consisted of potatoes and some salsa, hardly any meat. Â The salsa they put in it was just alright. Â My husband, who I might add was buzzen pretty good, was not impressed either. Â His burrito was also overwhelmed with their salsa.
Perhaps this is a good place for those who also think Taco Bell is good mexican food, or simply for those who grew up not really eating mexican food, but for us this place simply did not deliver.
Hands down, best "fast-food" Mexican food. Â I say "fast-food" because it's definitely not a sit-down (it's a Mexican place located inside a liquor store) but it is sit-down restaurant quality. Â
I'm from a town called Santa Maria that I've claimed has the best Mexican food (even better than San Diego, which is closest to the border), but no one beats the selection here at Liticker's. Â The menu just continues to grow. Â It's a great place for vegans + vegetarians too. Â Even non-vegans love their vegan menu. Â
You gotta try their fish ceviche. Â The best ceviche I've ever had!
Great selection of beer, tho a little expensive...good selection of wine and spirits, and if you search, you can find some incredible deals.
The Deli, it scares me. Â I have never seen anyone order anything there. Â
Recently, I have been haunted by a taste for a guacamole burrito. Â I was introduced to the combination in High School. Â It's a tortilla with guacamole, bacon, cheese, sour cream and onion all wrapped up to make a burrito. Â
I stopped in to pick up a beer and was "struck" by the idea of the burrito. Â Since the guy was still behind the counter, I went up and asked him to make the burrito. Â It was then that I noticed his hands and fingernails...not very clean. Â He went back to the grill and slapped down some bacon. Â He wiped his hands on his apron. Â Once the bacon was done, he added everything to the tortilla, rolled it up, wrapped it up and handed it to me.
Fortunately, my dog likes guacamole. Â He had the luxury of enjoying the burrito.
Solid Mexican food. In a liquor store. ...awesome? Definitely!
I'm not super familiar with joints in OB, but I came with friends. I opted for a surfin california, there aren't a lot of places that have them on the menu. And an al pastor street taco. Mmm. There's only one guy working the grill when I was there, and he's multi-tasking that between taking orders. So service was a little slow, but not that slow considering he's running the show. There was quite a bit of selection on the menu, a lot of burritos unique to their store (I think I saw some veggies ones, a Charger one, etc.), I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous. And I usually like to try something familiar on my first visit to see if it hits the benchmark (it did).
There were a lot of salsa choices! I liked the chipotle one, this.. creamy avocado one, and their regular spicy salsa. I tried a little bit of the haberno one, it wasn't super super hot and I wasn't very impressed with the flavor so I stuck with the chipotle one. :) One slight complaint, the plastic cup for the salsa were super tiny. Make them big, use less plastic, save the world. Done. Or have them in the tubes.
There's also a "seating" area. One table that looks like it gets cleaned/wiped weekly at most. So we had bought some beers from the liquor store, and started to enjoy them while waiting for our food. There was also a bottle opener on the counter of the mexican food grill (we opted not to use it to make it more of an adventure, ok fine, we didn't see it until after we opened our beers..). Halfway through drinking our beers, the lady at the counter of the liquor store comes over freaks out and yells at us to get out. I think she also asked us if we were stupid.. I'm pretty sure she did, but I can't say with 100% confidence. Thanks. We just brought our whole team in, bought a crapload of food and also a 12 pack and a 30 pack. You could've just asked us nicely.
Anyways, back about the food. Their fries aren't shoestring, but a little thicker. A hybrid shoe string and steak fries. I thought they could've included a bit more shrimp in my burrito. But it was pretty yummy, and I also was STARVING, so I ate it all pretty quickly. And my street taco was yummy! It was pretty small, but that's common. I couldn't wait to get back to the house to eat, so I just nom'ed it up on the way to the car. So yummy.
All in all, pretty good joint. Probably would've never known about it (or found it) if not for my friends. Prices aren't the cheapest, but it's pretty good!
I really wanted to like this place I did, but little things just made me not care for it. I went to OB an hour earlier than plan (hair appointment nearby at 10) just to get some breakfast here. The hours on their website says that the grill opens at 9. Well it wasn't open. The girl at the register said that they won't be in till 10. In fairness the sign at the door did say 10, but their website did not. Maybe it's my fault and I should have called anyway just to double check.
When I went in later in the day for food, they wouldn't accept my coupon either like someone here said. I printed something at the bottom of their website which says buy 1 burrito get the other free. The guy working there called his boss to confirm it and he said it was expired (ummm no there was no date even listed on the coupon). On top of it their website doesn't work to join the mailing list for coupons. When you enter your info you get some error thing. UPDATE YOUR F'IN WEBSITE!!!
So I was disappointed, but still ordered food. The chiliquiles (sp) were okay. Not really that great, but edible. The mahi mahi burrito was good and filling, but not enough to make a special trip for.
I'm here to let you all in on a little secret...BEST TACOS EVER!!!!
And the beer selection is pretty awesome too. Stumbled in here for a snack and found the mecca of mexican food tucked in the back of a convenience store. Jackpot! Be sure to get an al pastor tijuana style taco or any one of their tamales. I try something new every time I go and it's ALWAYS Â delicious!
Plus, they have several different styles of sauces that are all amazing!
I am in love with this place.
CON: The only cons would be that it's located on Voltaire ave. which is crazy crackhead avenue and there's limited seating. So you're better off eating in your car (like me cuz I can't wait) or taking it home.
Enjoy!
Tofu burrito, bitches, bring it on. Â I'm not even vegetarian, but I love the tofu scramble that comes in a whole wheat tortilla. Â Super size it ("mucho extra grande") for $1 more. Â The fresh, homemade salsas rock, especially the habanero.
You can buy alcohol here until 1:59:59 a.m., real time. Â Five stars just for that, know what I'm sayin'? Â KNOWUTIMSAYIN?
Liticker's has everything you need to stay off the wagon and a place to park it while you shop.
And just like your mom says, please don't drink and drive. Even if it is a wagon.
Bonus they have a taco shop INSIDE with a suprisingly excellent menu and tons of Vegan and vegetarian options!
More reviews of the taco shop here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/…
Rip your face off good carnintas burrito and every sauce is worthwhile... Liked the chipolte one prob the best. Â But unbeatable textures in the pork...perfect and a steal for 6 bones.
warning: do not get the pineapple tamale unless you like the taste of root beer, fermented pinapple, and corn all in the same bite.
Love the beer selection. Â Five stars for that, minus one for the food part. Â There is a definite "locals only" vibe there, so if you think the staff is unfriendly, just keep going back and they will eventually warm up to you.
I wouldn't recommend the food. Â The only time I get food there is if I'm starving and can't go more than a block from my apartment without dying of starvation. Â It will keep you alive, but it is over-priced and Nico's on Newport is a better Taco Shop.
One time I went there to get a burrito before a football game started, after looking up the hours online. Â I got there and the lady said the food didn't open for another hour. Â I knew it would be pointless to tell her the internet says otherwise, so I just went home. Â Hungry and defeated.
The hot sauces are bomb, I'll give them that much for sure.
Litickers consists of two entities. The first being the Liquor store itself which has an insane variety of beer and wine as well as just about every type of liquor you can find. This is owned and operated by the same people who run three other places in town. So the prices are comparable.
The second entity is the Mexican food place inside that is subleased. Don't let the Deli part fool you. Their menu of delicatessen is limited to the likes of greasy cheeseburgers and really poor quality pastrami. Mexican food is obviously their mainstay. If you want "real" deli, go up the street to Chris' Liquor.
Boasting a "fresh salsa bar" of which I would have to say that other than being really watered down, is quite tasty. The food quality is on par with other surrounding places. The tamales "from the pot" are hands down their specialty and in all honesty the only "authentic" place in town that serves them (they own a small cart called OB Tamales - but it's the same place). For this I suggest the $5 tamale bowl where you get three tamales of your choice topped with rice and beans. Not a bad little meal when you want something different and quick.
But that's about where it all ends. The regular menu items are overpriced and the portions are small in comparison. To get a fully satisfying meal it will cost you $10 no matter what. They used to have a "breakfast burrito" special in the morning but note the little asterisk. Only plain egg and meat burritos only.
Overall, stopping by Liticker's for anything more than an extensive alcohol selection is pretty much a pass. Walk up the extra block and get your money's worth at Roberto's for taco shop eats!
Three stars given for:
Decent Tamales
Even better liquor store
Liticker's is a solid four stars for a neighborhood liquor store. Â Great selection, typical (high) prices for convenience items, excellent beer, wine and liquor choices for the size of the store, friendly staff, easy parking and a decent Mexican food take out made fresh in the store.
Plus they have both the little bottles of Coke and the big ones from Mexico. Â Excellent.
I was here all the time when I lived in the war zone. Â Mexican food in OB sucks, and I used to think this place was the best of the worst - until they screwed up my order like 3 times in a row and now my girlfriend won't let me get us food here any more because her orders have been so out of whack. Â Last time my 'California burrito' consisted of a huge tortilla, about 3-4 runny eggs, some green bell pepper, and almost a whole sliced onion.
The liquor/variety store section of the shop is okay - great beer/booze selection, probably one of the better wine selections in OB aside from 3rd Corner but I wouldn't know because I don't drink that shiz. Â Selection good, price not so much. Â And they've got a bunch of random beachy crap for tourists like skimboards, little kid arm floaties, plastic pails and shovels, etc...
Pretty cheap and good Mexican food if you are hung over or too lazy to go anywhere else. It's right in my neighborhood so I'm there often.
Not a bad wine/beer/liquor selection at not OK prices. Â
They are ok with you bringing your dog in usually, as it's right next to the Dog wash that's kinda cool.
If you go here, it's not your imagination the ding dong sound that plays is because of you. Â They have a motion detector towards the back of the store, you go towards the liquor and it goes off. Â I kept walking back and forth (what can I say I'm a browser) not knowing that I was doing it and it was driving me and I'm sure the counter people crazy.
For Mexican, breakfast burrito, or carni asada burrito are good, I wouldn't go for the huge jumbo burrito it's not as good as it sounds, stick with the basics.
Beats Roberto's up the street.
The Ocean Beach burrito was done very well; black beans, salsa, rice, zuchinni, and squash.
The California burrito, a bit more Americanized than usual but definitely better than most.
The deli sandwiches come stacked and they're usually very quick.
Liticker's is holding it's own on the Voltaire strip.
First of all, do your self a favor when you walk in and turn immidiately left and go order the Charger burrito. Its a Surf n Turf with guac onions and peppers, Its so big that Im still not sure how to tackle it but at the end of it (or when the tortilla finally gives up) you are gonna need a fork, which sucks for a burrito but its oh so worth it .It has flavor bursting you may just leave out putting hot sauce on it. But if you do need some, they have six homemade recepies to choose from including a habanero thats some type of yellowish goodness.
Then if you like beer, come here. They got a lot. And they are always up on new shit and the owner always lets me know when New Belgium and Stone and any other dark valumptuous tastey brew hits the shelves...
Not to mention they have a mean selection of buy one bottle of wine and get the second for 5 cents.. and they arent too shabby of bottles. They might not have an 80 rating but they;ll get chya drunk.
Then there is the 'I forgot my sandals and boards shorts to come to the beach' they got that stuff too...
Big Ups to this liquer and more store
Oh Litickers, how I love you and your ghetto Mexican restaurant. Â So many nights you have supplemented our walk to Newport with inexpensive vodka. Â Given, I have never actually gotten the Mexican food before, so I cannot speak of such things. Â But your prices, the guy behind the counter who always looked like he would be capable of pulling out a shotgun if you ever tried to steal any of his liquor, and all your novelty 'margarita in a 1oz bag' or 'quick shot for energy and s***facedness' lingering at the counterhave tempted me on too many occasions.
You have the selection, and you don't try to jack my arm and/or leg in the process. Â Not to mention you have a little parking lot for the days when walking 10 minutes to get to your store front was just TOO DAMN FAR. Â
Though to be fair, liquor stores, by default, are going to average higher on the star-list than most any other business. Â For obvious reasons.
They have a large menu. Well, thats all well and good, except their food SUCKS and it is one of the most expensive mexican places around. especially for take out in ob! give me a break! Â The only good thing about them really is that they have an awesome salsa bar with stuff i've never seen anywhere else.
The liquor store is one of the best in town--great staff and lots to choose from. So as long as you aren't going there for the mexican feast, you should be happy.
Three words that make me very happy: Grilled Fish Burrito. Ahhhhh.....Litticker's is the best kept secret in OB. My friends scoff at me when I take them here (Liquor store mexican food?!?!?!?), but after we eat they look at my with happy, surprised eyes and say "Mmmmm!!!" And I say "Bitches, don't doubt me!!!" :)
I love Litticker's because they make everything fresh while you do your liquor store shopping (anyone need some porno mags, bottle of tequila, perhaps a blow up shark for the pool?) I actually feel pretty healthy eating here because of all their veggie and vegan options, and I love having my burrito on a whole-wheat tortilla. Â Not to mention, their homemade salsa kicks some major ass, and they always give me free chips, even though on the menu it says "Chips and salsa $1.50." Hurray, free stuff.
If you are coming back from the beach in OB, check this place out, it's a pleasant surprise.
Litickers is the local booze joint for last call, heading to the beach, or picking up a bottle on the way home. With a somewhat decent wine selection, lots of micro-brews and a KILLER Â mexican grill inside, you'll be happy no matter what your desire. It's true - they're open to the very last minute. I head to Litickers after the latest last call in OB at Lucy's.
Service? If you're local and they know you - fantastic. If not, don't take it personal, they're a liquor store for chrissake. Grill service is always friendly, but it gets busy, so don't be a dick.
The food - awesome. The Mexican Grill inside is not somewhere you plan on sitting down for dinner unless your in the mood for sitting on the street casual style, but I highly recommend grabbing a shrimp burrito on your way to the beach. Their seafood is always fresh, and the ingredients tasty and super delicious. I haven't had anything off the menu that isn't amazing. Â They also have a smoothie menu that's perfect for a fruit fix in the am, and their burgers are equally dope. Seriously.
Really? This is my favorite liquor store for miles around. I live a block away.
