dined here on cinco de mayo & will come again. best mole sauce in town, really considerate service, great margaritas, and incredible handmade corn tortillas. vegetarian friendly -- i had the bean and cheese enchiladas which were incredible (and if you like cheese, be sure to get the queso fundido as an appetizer) and my companion had the seafood soup, a beautifully simmered broth with all fresh ingredients -- calamari, shrimp, crab legs (in shell), fish. a most wonderful dinner. can't wait to come again.
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place. The interior is bright and the space is much bigger than you'd expect from the outside. There is a main dining area (the green room in the attached picture) and a smaller cozy area next to a faux fireplace. Then there is a separate space for a private party. On a Monday night though it was just my group of 4...that's it. The staff was friendly and if a nice atmosphere and friendly staff were all it took to make a great restaurant this review would be higher...
Sadly the food was not so good. The margaritas? Eh, OK. I opted for a guava margarita which was fine but nothing exciting. My friends who ordered the traditional margaritas were equally unimpressed. The salsa was really good though. It wasn't a traditional red variety, more yellow and it really packed a nice punch. The entrees were disappointing. 3 of us ordered the tacos. The meat was so dry and it seemed like there were no spices or seasonings used during cooking. I was eating and dreaming about those delicious tacos around the corner at Tio Luis. Gosh darnit the lure of margaritas had drawn us in to Los Girasoles but I don't think they're likely to keep us here.
I'm new to Yelp so I'm trying to write reviews on my best experiences and my worst first. With out a doubt eating in this restaurant was one of my worst. I was working on the corner of 37th and Archer (I'm a phone man and work for AT&T) the crew that I was with was hungry so we decided to go eat. This was one of the first places we saw and it looked really nice on the outside. When we got there the waitress or owner came up to us and let us know that she did not speak English. I speak fluent Spanish so I decided to translate. We all placed out orders with a few tweak here and there. We waited and waited and waited. Â (I think our waitress went in the back to cook our food cause we didn't see her till our food came out). Finally our food came out. Not one of the orders came out right. To the patrons credit they did make us new plates and got us what we had ordered. Then when we did get what we ordered the flavor was just not there defiantly to worth the wait. One guy complained that the bread was too hard like it had been sitting there for a few days. It was 4 of us 2 white guy's 1 black guy and me (Mexican). Needles to say none of us were impressed by this place. We should have gotten the hint when we walked in and the place was deserted. The time of day we went there was 11 am so to any one thinking of coming here for lunch think twice about it!
