Solid bass. Casual and mostly unpretentious House crowd (No kiddy ravers). Efficient bar set up with a crystal dragon, which pulls the whole place together into a coherent concept. This is my go to place for House. Frequent mainland DJ's as well as the local scene.

First Friday (FF): Expect some hip hop sets, a mixed crowd (Manifest overflow), two rooms, two DJ's. Cover.

Non-First Friday (NFF): House, Drum&Base, Deep House, Bassy, scenester crowd. Cover for special events.

    Yakitori stand is A+..

Hands-down the best bar for Electronic Dance Music in Chinatown.  There are different and multiple DJ's every week, and these range from local audiophiles to mainland celebrities.  The front room DJ usually provides great dance tunes, which is good because there's plenty of room to dance.  The back room (complete with back bar) generally has a different vibe, and the tunes back here range from trance to hip hop/R&B.

The crystal dragon above the bar, laser displays and fog machine set a classy ambience, but the super friendly, laid-back staff keep the place casual.

One caveat would be that it can sometimes be a little empty on weeknights, but that can be nice if you're cruising with your friends, and even when it's dead, it often picks up a little later in the evening.

*The bar-owned food cart in front of this place has AMAZING STREET FOOD!  Even if you don't go inside, you gotta get those grinds!

The DJ's that come through to spin are amazing!  They bring in the most incredible DJ's from local ones to ones from around the world!  I like the variety of music styles that come through to spin!  The best place to here and dance to the best house music I have heard spun here in the islands!!!  The staff is so welcoming and most kind!  I feel at home every time I go to Lotus!  I try to get to Lotus at least once a week to unwind from my daily stresses to the awesome music played as I dance the night away!
Wednesday nights is slow on people dropping in which is sad because the week nights the music is just as amazing as the weekends!  Lotus never seems to let the people down when it comes to music!  Whether the DJ is some big name DJ or some of our islands local talent the music is always great!!!
I love that they have opened up another room so that now they are able to cater in music to more people!  They will play one type in the front and another type in the back!  I find myself jumping rooms because the music is just to great in both rooms!
Lotus feels like home to me and I go every chance I get even if it is to stop in for an hour or more because it just has this nice positive vibe that even on my long exhausting workdays I just have to stop in for!!!

One of the best bars in chinatown for sure. Great house music --ranging from dubstep to deep house to drum and bass. Paul (owner) and his crew have put together a great venue for friends to get together and enjoy a few drinks. The smaller room in the back has a great intimate feel and walking in between the two rooms provides enough entertainment and variety throughout the night. LOVE this place!

What can I say? It's my second home in Chinatown. I first passed through Lotus's hallowed doors during one of their more 'alternative' nights a couple of months ago. It was quite the spectacle. My buddy and I happened to make the acquaintance of the bartender, along with the owner Paul.

Since then, Paul and his team have gone out of their way to make Lotus feel like a second home to me. He always takes the time to greet me with a smile and firm handshake, along with the rest of the Lotus family. He's a great resource on the nightlife scene in Chinatown, always in the know of where the next best event is to be found.

Paul always holds great events at Lotus, bringing down fantastic DJ's and partnering up with the various Chinatown promoters. There is decent room to dance, if the mood strikes you, along with a long, neon lit bar to wet your whistle at. The lighting in Lotus is top notch, especially around their famed glass dragon, that hangs above the bar.

Recently, Lotus added an additional room in the back, where patrons are able to relax and kick up their feet, to catch a breather from the hustle and bustle on the dance floor.

If you're looking for a great place to relax, drink, and make new friends, Lotus is waiting for you.

Lotus definately has the best djs, electronic music scene, and expressive random ass dancers on the island but the only problem is that this bar is cramped as ****.  I wish they would have rented a larger space.  Anyways, I went one Friday with a couple friends and there were two dancers on the dance floor there, dope as **** , but that's all the dancers that could really fit, and they were fun to watch as I was downing a couple drinks.  I tried to match their moves and ended up falling on my ***. Anyways, stupid drunk me, this place is definately the hidden jewel in Chinatown.

This place seems to be only crowded on first fridays when I come here.  Small bar, but good environment.  Worth a shot if all the other places have long lines.

I stumbled upon this bar on Fat Tuesday while I was taking advantage of my free wristband in courtesy of Yelp :)
I guess my review isn't good for a regular bases cuz it was rather empty when we were in there.
The ambience was soothing. The DJ was spinning some smooth jams.
The TV behind the bar was playing Jack@ss (the most current one)
I only had a beer for $5 but i doubt thats the normal price.

Like all the other reviews, the crystal dragon definitely caught me mesmerized. The painting on the wall closer to the entrance is nice too!

I really do prefer bars over clubs these days. Especially bars like these. I'll be back when i'm in need for a chill drinking sesh!

We had our work function here, they were pretty accommodating.  The bar tenders were really kind.  I love the dragon hanging from the bar its gorgeous.  The AC is rather cold in there which is pretty good especially when it is crowded.  I can't tell you how much the drinks cost because it was an open bar for our event hahaha

As a fan of refined electronic musics, you gotta love this place. I loved the original in Waikiki too, but now there's not really any reason to go there, anymore.

So Lotus downtown is where its at if you enjoy various types of house (ranging from soulful to tech), dubstep (Slow n Low is my fave event, every 2nd Saturday), other types of electro, or simply mingling with downtowners. For the past few years, Lotus and a handful of other places have been slowly transforming Honolulu into a reinvigorated Nightclub district, with dance music events springing up in establishments all the way from the Mercury & Soho at the top of Chinatown, down to The Loft at the bottom of Hotel street.

Lotus definitely helps bring an element of class to the area, as is well documented in the previous reviews. Decor is not really my thing, the drinks are a bit pricey, but definitely worth the performance if you're into that kind of music (or scene, admittedly). They've had some incredible superstar guests and performances in the past (DJ QBert, Dimitri from Paris, Derrick May, DJ Colette were some of my faves), I hope to bear witness to some more in the future.

The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because its not nearly as big as the Lotus in Waikiki, which was also within walking distance of my place, so there you go. Two thumbs up anyway, of course!

Nice decor, nice ambience and there was just enough people. I live the crystal dragon hanging above the bar!

I had been waiting forever for Lotus to open back up and I was not dissapointed when they did. The music was banging, everyone was dancing and the drinks were good. The only issue was the back which was still be renovated so I couldnt tell if it was VIP or what. Not as rroomy as old spot but still a great vibe.

Lotus is a great new addition to Chinatown. Just a couple of observations: If you don't plan to spend more than $15 at the bar then bring cash; they have a minimum spend when using a credit card. Check out the amazing crystal dragon hanging over the bar. They very likely have the best sound setup in Chinatown.

(Same owners as the former Lotus Soundbar Waikiki location.)

I've been watching the construction and renovation on Hotel, across Bar 35 and between PYNK and Manifest for some months.

At last, during last night's Chinese New Year festivities, the doors opened.

It's a small'ish front room, with super cool laser lights, kick a** air conditioning, a nice long bar with some friendly and skilled drink-making folk (seen at Next Door and other area spots), a few very low-to-the-ground couches, and mostly standing room.  The sound system is heavy hitting, and I liked the vibe coming from the DJ!

I'm told there is still construction going on in a back room and plans remain for this place to be a Japanese eatery during the day and club at night.

I wish them the best. It's great to have so many nifty choices (Downbeat, PYNK, Manifest, Bar 35, 39 Hotel, Next Door) in one short block!
