The Irish breakfast was tasty but you have to ask for a side of baked beans to make it complete. Â Otherwise, it was really good. Â Seating was a breeze on a Sunday morning. Â I will say the pricing is kinda unique. Â I've never seen items given such exact prices (the Irish breakfast was priced at $9.53).
We'll be coming back for sure...
Lucky Grill is a pretty standard diner. Â I have only come here for breakfast. Â I like their skillet options and the portions are huge! My recent visit I ordered a skillet with chorizzo- more spicy than I'm used to from other diners. Â I liked that they offered toast, pancake, or a waffle as a side. Â I dislike that they have packaged syrup in the same bowl as the jelly packets. Â That sounds ridiculous, but there is something about the presentation of a jar full of syrup. There is a little guilt that comes along with opening multiple syrup containers...just saying. Â The service is nothing special and the setup is a typical diner- booths, tables, counter seating.
Review Source:All I wanted for lunch was breakfast, and I got it! They delivered to my work place in a quicker time than expected. Everything arrived hot, fresh and correct! I made a few changes to my omelet (adding cheese and getting other sides), they didn't forget anything, which is shocking! They even threw in things I forgot to ask for like napkins, silverware, and ketchup. Over all I am EXTREMELY pleased in their excellent attention to detail, delicious food, and of course the fact that they deliver!
Review Source:Great food, bad management.
On my last delivery order one of the items was Eggs Benedict with an extra charge for egg whites. The Eggs Benedict came with regular eggs. My girlfriend will not eat regular eggs, so her order of Eggs Benedict went untouched. The management refused to either delivery the correct order with egg whites or refund my money. This is not acceptable. I ordered through GrubHub and luckily THEY compensated me. But, they shouldn't have to. And now my girlfriend has her breakfast ruined. That's not right. It wouldn't have taken much money or effort to simply deliver a few egg whites a couple of blocks from the restaurant.
I have ordered from here many times in the past and the service and food has always been excellent. I will not order again. For a pittance of money and effort they lost a regular customer.
I have enjoyed going to Lucky Grill for years, starting with Lucky Grill#1 on Milwaukee Avenue. Â Lucky 2 is close to work, so I tend to go here now. I love the Irish breakfast at Lucky Grill, I always have leftovers and another meal the next day. Another yelper mentioned the lack of Soda Bread, and that is okay as there is so much other food and items with the meal. Â I prefer brown bread to soda bread anyway. Service is fast, prices are good, but it is so hard to get in on the weekends and the place is small. I love the soups and sandwiches as well. Â I left off one star because the only thing I don't like is the coffee, it is too weak. Â Lucky Grill ramp up the coffee for that 5th star.
Review Source:Four stars? Â Really? Â I weep for Chicago if the lucky is the best breakfast place in this area...
I like diners; I like greasy spoons; I like home-style cooking; I love breakfast food. Â This place should've been a holy grail. Â Instead it was holy meh.
Sat in a booth (had a huge worn-out crater in the middle; sitting on either side, I felt like I was being sucked toward a black hole), and was promptly greeted by waitress who offered coffee. Â I accepted.
Browsed the menu and decided on an omelet with the side of pancakes ("Breakfast Club #4). Â A glass of water and my coffee appeared; I placed my order.
Just as I was taking a sip of coffee, the entire row of booths that I was sitting in shifted violently; an extremely large man was trying to wedge himself into one of the booths, and with every heave, he was literally moving 3 other booths' worth of people. Â Everyone took notice, except for the rotund fellow... He just kept grunting and shoving himself into the booth.
Ok... that was fun.
Waitress refilled coffee and said the food would be out in a bit.
Food arrived within 10 minutes of placing the order. Â The omelet was over-cooked; I'm not a huge fan of a wet omelet, but this one was literally crispy. Â The "hash browns" were really American fries - big "chips" of charred potatoes; there were far too many in the omelet. Â Onion and peppers were nearly absent. Â I've never had a dry, crispy, taste-devoid omelet in my life... until today.
The side of pancakes were nicely cooked, but tasted like cardboard. Â The imitation syrup was another strike. Â I love me some pancakes, but these were inedible. Â Whomever said they were "sweet enough" must have been referring to the high-fructose corn syrup "syrup" because the actual pancakes were dreadful.
And, the coffee wasn't anything to talk about, so strike three.
Lucky Grill = FAIL
Food = 1.75 stars
Service = 3 stars
Value = 2 stars (inexpensive, but I'd rather have eaten at McDonalds, and I hate McDs)
MISC = 2 stars
To top off the visit, I overheard the large gentleman placing his order, and almost had a grabber myself... two cheeseburgers with fried onions, french fries, coke, and a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. Â Yikes.
This place is pretty great. Although I should have ordered something  out of the ordinary I had the steak and eggs and it was great. The service is great and the only thing I can really complain about is the booths which aren't that comfortable and that my wife had ordered juice to drink  and it came in such a small glass compared to my glass of water (see pic).
Oh and BTW their waffles are delicious!
I Will be back to try the Irish breakfast.
You can tell they take pride in their food from the way it looks and tastes. Everytime I go here I am pleasantly surprised. The veggies were cooked to perfection, the pancakes were just sweet enough and the coffee always hits the spot. The staff are superkind and attentive. Â This is definitely in my top five diners in Chicago.
Review Source:I love diners. Lucky Grill is a nice and little local gem. Nothing from the outside really draws your eye to the restaurant so you would have to be specifically looking for a place to eat. It's not a bad looking place by any means though. You can park on the street or find a spot in the little private lot behind the restaurant. The inside is somewhat small: there are a few tables, booths, and little bar stool area. Pretty much any place with neon signs on the window is a winner in my book.
The menu is surprisingly gigantic. There are pages and pages of various foods but the highlight (for me) is the breakfast menu. I've had several items and I've been satisfied every time. Classic items can be found, like a Denver omelet or bacon & eggs. If you want something different then why not try the chili omelet or latin skillet (which includes such ingredients like chorizo, jalapenos, etc). Want burgers, sandwiches, or gyros? Come over here and try 'em out then! This place has something for everyone at very reasonable prices. If I had to say an average price, I would say a meal would cost you ~$7.00.
I love this place so much that I plan to have everything on the menu at least once. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and the food is great.
It's easy to pass by this greasy spoon (it's got a pretty nondescript storefront and is tucked away between a barber shop and a dance studio), but if you can find it and avoid the breakfast crowd, you'll find it's definitely worth stopping in. Â The atmosphere of the diner is very laid back and welcoming, though it's pretty small and I can imagine it must feel pretty claustrophobic when the breakfast crowd is swarming the place; we went at 630 on a Saturday, so we were the only ones there (and we still got fast, friendly service). Â
The menu is huge and features an interesting mix of items for CRAZY cheap (most entrees were between 7-10 dollars and portions were quite large). Â Soups are made fresh every day, there are daily specials, and a pretty good selection of desserts. Â While the Lucky Grill seems to be, at heart, a traditional Irish breakfast-ery and features the usual fare-- black pudding & white pudding, corned beef, w/e else Irish people eat (...potatoes?)-- there are also some intriguing selections that I'll definitely try upon my return. Â Corned beef skillet? Done. Â Enormous breakfast combos? Â You got it. Â Pizza omelet? A-WHA?! You'd better believe I'ma try that.
When my small group went, we tried some standard breakfast items, which were pretty well received. Â I got the Irish breakfast, which came with two black puddings, two white puddings, a hefty slab of Irish bacon, two eggs (any style), and toast. Â All of this was served upon a tasty bed of thick-cut hash browns and it all cost around $8. Â A friend of mine got a skillet of some sort which was similarly huge and apparently delicious. Â I'm excited to go back and try more, and perhaps even venture in to experience the breakfast rush. Â Giving this a 4-star rating for now as I haven't fully immersed myself in what this place has to offer.
On Sunday (Nov. 7) a friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat breakfast. We were driving aimlessly and saw a small line waiting to dine at Lucky Grill (a nondescript sign read Lucky Grill - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). We figured it must be good so we decided to give it a try. After a brief wait we were quickly assigned a table. We were served our coffee and never had to ask for a top off. I liked that. I ordered a skillet and my friend ordered one of the combo breakfasts. The food was very good. I like the diner ambiance and unpretentious feel of the place. The food is very good, the service was on point and an overall good value. I will be back.
Review Source:Very cute little place. Â I've only had breakfast there, but it was hot and good! Â I love my bacon very crispy and I didn't have to send it back at all. Â The wait staff is young, but they weren't too bad keeping my cup filled with coffee, provided the restaurant wasn't filled to the brim.
Review Source:This is a cute little place located right down the street from Resurrection Hospital -so, if you have been visiting medical facilities lately like I have (long story), and don't want to eat hospital food, this is a cute little place to get your breakfast or lunch on. The staff was fast, friendly and the food was good! It's just about 15 minutes from where I live in Chicago so I would consider going back even if I'm not going to the hospital!
Review Source:Best breakfast on the northwest side. Â The food is delicious and they give you large portions. Â
The only draw back is the waitstaff. Â I have been there several times and I always have to get up to get more coffee or butter of find out where my toast is. Â And this is a small place - it is irritating.
