I went to Lucky's today as a suggestion from my cousin. Â Despite the fact that the place was packed and there was a pre-St. Patrick's Day pub crawl, my friend and I were seated pretty quickly. Â I ordered a "Diet-Rite" to drink, no Coke or Pepsi I guess. Â For lunch I had the "Double Bagger," which was a corned beef and pastrami sandwich. Â The thing about Lucky's is that it serves "Pittsburgh-style sandwiches," which has fries and the cole slaw on the sandwich itself. Â I wasn't a big fan of this style however, and couldn't really tell what kind of sandwich I was eating, all I could taste were the fries. Â The portions were huge, definitely worthy of being on Man vs. Food. Â Great service though, and very speedy for a busy place right by Wrigley Field.
Review Source:I went to Lucky's with a great deal of skepticism. Â I am from Pittsburgh and thought this would be a very poor imitation of Primanti's... let's just say that I was pleasantly surprised!
I ordered the good ol' stalwart, the "cap and cheese". Â When the sandwich came out and was actually a bit bigger than Primanti's, at least from what I recall. Â The quality was definitely there as well. Â This is one of the best sandwiches that I have ever had. Â
Let me be clear though, it is not BETTER than Primanti's, but it is just as good. Â If you get the chance to stop by and grab a sandwich, don't pass it up.
A whole meal in a sandwich! Fries (good alone), slaw, meat, etc all in a fluffy white bread. To top it off this place is quick and cheap too!
I had the Cajun chicken - was very tasty. It paired perfectly with an old style :)
In a typical Wrigleyville fashion this place can get crowded (think Cubs games and weekend nights). But I have still had a good deal of fun here then and was able to get drinks easily.
Believe the hype.
Despite living close by we never thought to try this place. I know it was on Man vs. Food and Adam took the 3 sandwich in 1 hr. challenge and won. But we tried it since my dining partner was in the mood for a sandwich. Everything about Lucky's exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere is cozy. It's a touch small, music at a reasonable volume, lots of interesting pictures on the walls, and of course pictures of all who bested the sandwich challenge. There's a tidy beer list and we each had options we enjoyed.
We ordered:
10 wings (5 the OMG hot! and 5 Garlic Parmesan w 2 sides of Ranch)
Meaty large drumlets and winglets. The meat was very tender and juicy. It was difficult for my partner and I to judge which flavor was better. The OMG! had a great kick. The Garlic Parm was well seasoned and original.
Chicken Cajun sandwich
Don't let the pictures deceive you. The bread is just thick enough to hold the sandwich together and is soft. The chicken had nice spicy flavor. The slaw on it was vinegar based and enhanced the flavor profile. The fries, which are a generous heap inside the sandwich, are very good. Crisp, fresh, and scrumptious. I dislike fries and almost felt they were the shining star.
One could easily get one sandwich to share w another. Or just split the 10 wings and be full. The portions are very generous.
The service was excellent. The server who also was the bartender took care of all the tables with poise.
It definitely lived up to it's reputation. I will go back and if you're feel like getting Lucky you should go too.
Very good food - Ordered the double bagger --that may not be the correct name for this sandwich. Forgive me.
I asked where were the fries...lo and behold they were on the sandwich. Tricky tricky!
My only complaint was that they say this is a full bar and it's not completely full. Keep it simple and you'll be just fine here.
Cool place.
This place is decent.
I'm impressed with how everything is in the sandwich (fries and slaw!) The taste is lacking. I think this place gets a lot of hype because of it's location and their eating challenge (featured on Man Vs. Food).
I got the corned beef, and did not like the cole slaw. It's got a weird taste to it. The portion is huge, but the quality is not there.
Also, this place does not have decent drink specials.
One of my favorite aspects of traveling is finding fun and delicious places to eat. Â I had heard of Lucky's Sandwich Company on the TV show Man Vs. Food and it sounded like my kind of place. Â
This place is a small sports bar with a cool dark tavern feel. Â Smaller than I had expected my group of three hung at the bar and had a beer before we were seated. Â Then it happened...
I had one of the top five best sandwiches ever to grace my mouth. Â I had the corned beef and cheese sandwich, and it was AWESOME. Â All their sandwiches come with a heaping handful of french fries on top and a great vinegar salad. Â The vinegar in the lettuce cut through the saltiness of the corned beef and fries and was incredible. Â My sandwich came on two huge pieces of white bread, and it was so big I could only eat half. Â This is a rarity for me as I am known as the "clean plate kid" around these parts. Â
Cold beer, killer sandwiches and good atmosphere make this place a must stop for anyone visiting or living in beautiful Chicago.
I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Awesome sandwiches, and they're HUGE!
Here's the skinny:
Kinda small...
You better be hungry, and I mean HUNGRY.
Bars galore on this street.
Here's the fat:
Yes, it's kind of a small(ish) place but, they make good use of the space they've got. I think it was a Saturday night... might have been Sunday morning, we were pretty shmammered  (cross between sh!t faced and hammered). Anyway... it was a bit crowded but you can still move around a bit. Not that you'd be doing much moving after eating one of their sandwiches.
Which brings me to THE SANDWICHES - Giant, Huge, Massive - like the size of a Steak and Shake DINNER PLATE Ginormous! And they all come with slaw and are stick to your ribs good. Our group got a few different kinds and shared, every single one was delish!
If for some mind boggling reason you want to move around shortly after eating one of those big ole things(That's what she said!) there are plenty of bars up and down that strip. But, why bother??? THERE'S A BADASS BAR RIGHT THERE!
Gotta stop here, for serious! If you're feelin' froggy try the 3 sandwich challenge that was featured on Man vs. Food!
#SYOY!
I don't know man, it's a big ass sandwich that's barely mediocre at best. It's hard work trying to stuff this sandwich down. Exhausting. It's a bad sign when you need a ten minute break from a sandwich to go text your co-worker about how tired this sandwich is making you. I can see the appeal if hung over but I think I'd rather have a tasty huge burrito instead, mmmm an Oregon burrito. The coleslaw is vinegary and I grew to tolerate it but could do without it cuz it wasn't very tasty. I was hoping for the creamy variety. The fries were good though. I had the skirt steak sandwich, no cheese with hot peppers. Just cuz it's been on Man Vs.Food doesn't mean shit. Not a must visit at all but it seems to be the thing in the midwest I've realized, that people are into lots of mediocrity in big portions. People loooove that here.
Review Source:I have to say that it was basically an accident that we ended up here at all. We were walking down Clark looking for a completely different place to get our grub on when we spotted this packed house of a place. Â We peaked in figuring it must be good and decided to stay.
We ordered the veggie sandwich for the vegetarian and the fish sandwich for the meat eater. They both hit the table quickly enough and that's pretty much where the good stuff ends. The "slaw" as they call it on the sandwich is simply over powering. The fries were delicious, but almost made the sandwich too big to pick up and thoroughly enjoy, sandwiches are not supposed to be work. I ended up picking all mine out.
The "grilled" veggies on the veggie sandwich were either old and wilted, or over cooked and wilted, either way, it wasn't good, heavy on the cheap onions, and a little on the slimy side. Â
The fish sandwich was a little better, but the fillet of fish used in the sandwich is so thin, that even McDonald's serves a better one. I get that this place is going for shock factor with how huge the sandwiches look, but the only real shock was how little flavor such big sandwiches packed.
Next time, I'll stick to what I know. Quiznos or some other boring chain.
We live near Wrigley and always bring our guests to Luckys! We love the food there. Tips to visit if you want a quieter, quick experience would be to go on a Sunday for lunch right when they open. Hardly anyone there yet and the food comes fast. The combo of frieds and slaw on a sandwich may sound crazy but until you try it you can't diss it!
if you like bloody mary's they serve them here. Warning - very spicy but you can always ask for a chaser or spot of Guinness to tame it down. I did and they were happy to accomodate.
Also - if you can't eat alot or don't like leftovers I'd recommend splitting a sandwich.
Went here on Saturday because my cousin, a Chicago native, was in town and:
1) he saw this place on man vs. food and was intrigued (as was I)
2) we didn't want to do our typical trip for Chicago style pizza. Â Apparently they can get some decent za in Cali these days. I'll believe it when I taste it.
So we went there Saturday afternoon, not to hang out and watch college football, but just for the sandwiches. don't think this is a sports bar destination if that is what you are looking for.
My sister and brother-in-law tagged along as well. It was an hour wait for a table because the seating area is tiny, and people somehow think this is a place to hang out.
Once seated we ordered the Cajun wings as a starter, me and my sister ordered the turkey, bro-in-law ordered the corned beef, and my cousin did the challenge with turkey, Cajun chicken, and roast beef. First of all, the sandwiches came out first, but only one of my cousin's came out. Confusing enough, but where were the wings? Then his other two sandwiches came out, and then the wings.
The sandwiches were a joke. Minuscule amount of meat (literally 2 slices of turkey) that was clearly not even fresh. And there was something very off about the overall taste of the sandwich. None of us finished, except my cousin who braved through a whole sandwich, who said he only did it to try to finish the challenge. Thick slices of bread surrounded by putrid coleslaw and what otherwise would be awesome fries, had they not touched the slaw.
When I mentioned my sandwich tasted weird to the waitress when she came to clean up my barely eaten plate, she said, "oh, that's probably the coleslaw. That's my favorite." that response made no sense. She made no apologies that I didn't enjoy my food (and clearly the full plates around me said none of us did) but that comment made it seem as though it was my fault for not liking what they served me.
Ugh. Never again. At least not for the sandwiches.
The wings were incredible. They should re-market this place as a competitor to BW3 and just stop selling sandwiches. Now that I think about it, the people who like these sandwiches are probably the people who like BW3 wings.
They get 2 stars because the wings were their redemption and worth 5 stars.
Service: 1
Claim to fame sandwiches: 1
Beer on tap: 4
Wings: 10 (out of 5) seriously, order the wings here instead of the sandwich
I love the sandwich concept here, it was very different and unusual. Â As far as taste goes, it was not excellent, but not horrible either. Â The beer selection here is great! Â I ordered the cheese sandwich, and along with the fries and coleslaw that all get mashed down on the sandwich, it was a bit much. Â Could only eat half, took the other half home. Â But it is a fun place to go if you want to try something different. Â come here for the beer, the unusual food but do not come here for a great culinary experience with good tasting food.
Review Source:I desperately tried to set this review to the tune of "Lucky" by Britney Spears; I lost all my creativity, failed miserably, and then thought: I'll just tell it like it is, and you'll enjoy it. Â Like you'll enjoy one of their sandwiches the next time you go (because yes, friends, you are going, whether you like it or not).
As you can see from past reviews, Lucky's and I have a history. Â We had hot sex every Thursday for nearly two years over a bed of 10-cent wings and $2 beers but then, as happens in many relationships, new factors presented themselves, things changed, and our love fizzled out. Â Although a couple attempts to reconcile our love were made over the past 3 years, I actually did not step foot in Lucky's until recently. Â Turns out she was whoring herself out to everyone else and their mother (and probably brother, sister, cousin, and anyone else on the street) and every time I tried to get back with her I had to wait in line, just like everyone else. Â But one Tuesday night, I got Lucky, and knew it was time to make up and move forward.
And it was just like old times. Â Fairly empty restaurant, sports on the tube, super friendly bartender, fast like lightning service, and no wishy-washy specials. Â We put in an order for ranch fries right away and they came out quicker than I can get my clothes off after a hard day's work. Â While we chomped away at those we put in our sandwich orders: Â 3 Fredo's, mine without coleslaw, in an attempt to avoid unnecessary mayonnaise (which I am bummed about because they do not use mayo in their coleslaw). Â It was absolutely delicious, truly a ham/capicola/salami/swiss/french fry/spongy-crusty bread party in my mouth. Â The meat was tasty, greasy, and needed nothing, and the fries were piping hot and plentiful. Â I would have slept with my plate, it looked so good. Â OK, in all seriousness, like many reviewers have said, yes, french fries is greater than actual meat on sandwich, but I think going with the Fredo increased my meat:everything else ratio as opposed to the sandwiches with only one meat. Â On that note, an extra order of fries was unnecessary, but welcome, since I was starving.
It looks like the relationship between Lucky's and I is salvaged, but I wish she wasn't so damn popular, because I cannot wait to have more!
If you're looking for a fine culinary experience, go somewhere else. If you're looking for something a little unusual and some simple no frills grub, Lucky's is a good choice. After watching the Jets get embarrassed yet again on Sunday, I felt like some depression food and this seemed like a fine fit.
I am impressed that they do have a good variety of beers from across the country. I chose an Breckenridge Agave Wheat from Denver for $5 and really enjoyed it. for the sandwich, I took the capicola and added a hard fried egg since I heard that was a very popular sandwich in Pittsburgh, which is where this concept comes from. Now I've seen various people describe the bread as sourdough, or white, or Italian. Here's how I describe it. A VERY thick, soft, generic Italian. But the bread needs to be thick with so many ingredients packed inside like a sardine can. It didn't get soggy or fall apart, which is such a big deal for me.
I did like the capicola and egg combo, though it's not a very meaty sandwich. The fries and slaw tend to take over, which isn't ideal for most sandwiches. But then again, I really like the oil and vinegar based slaw as opposed to a mayo-based slaw; it compliments the heavy taste of the fries very nicely. And the sweetness and acidity of the tomato slices works with the slaw too.
The service was fine, the waitress seemed to be pretty attentive. And I certainly like the Jets helmet placed high above the bar, along with the Bears and Steelers.
I can't say I would drive all the way downtown from the burbs just for one of these sandwiches. But if I'm in the area and I'm in a sad enough mood, it's a pretty good idea.
The key to this girl's heart is food. Awesome, Local and delicious food. Sandwich's are on the TOP of my list to make my mouth water and heart happy. Every sandwich should have:
-a delicious and fresh meat.
-gooey melted cheese.
-a perfectly fresh & toasted bread.
-yummy veggies for optimal crunch factor.
well...let me tell you Lucky's goes above and beyond to make any sandwich 100 % AMAZING & a Chicago staple!
In addition to the ingredients above, Lucky's throws a bit of Coleslaw, French fries & tomatoes, making it not only the best sammich I have EVER eaten, but the biggest as well! With everything anyone could ever want piled high between two pieces of bread, it was about 12 inches long and about 6 inches high....and absolutely delicious! WOW!
My friend insisted we feast on these massive sandwiches, and I was beyond impressed. Their food is amazing [get the Fredo or the Chicken], their service is killer and the atmosphere/environment is relaxed and chill. It's the perfect spot to people watch, catch a glimpse at Wrigley Field & fill your tummy!
Lucky, I think I'm in love with you!
We stopped into Lucky's after my husband saw it featured on Man vs. Food and decided that we had to try it out. Â Honestly, it was a pleasant surprise. Â It's your typical loud and crazy Wrigleyville bar (though considerably smaller than most) and I was expecting some really greasy subpar food. Â The overstuffed sandwiches are actually really good. Â I can normally put it away, but only managed half of my sandwich-- turkey and cheese stuffed with tomatoes, coleslaw, and french fries. Â This would probably be an excellent place to visit for some hangover food.
Review Source:"All of humankind has one thing in common: the sandwich. I believe that all anyone really wants in this life is to sit in peace and eat a sandwich." - Liz Lemon
You can get part of the Liz Lemon experience at Lucky's. They have darn good sandwiches, but are far from peaceful. Since it's right in the heart of Wrigleyville, you will more than likely run into rowdy bar crawl folks or Cubs fans looking for a good meal that isn't T.Bell or McD's. You will also probably hear someone mention the Man vs. Food challenge, but don't feel obligated to take it on yourself.
Got myself a child's size (Still huge!) roast beef sammie from Lucky's and was very happy with the portion size/ingredients etc. The bread was super fluffy and the fries/cole slaw added a little somethin'somethin'. The cole slaw is vinegar-y, not the super creamy kind so skip out if you hate tart flavors. I will make it a point to come back sober and not during the mustache bar crawl :{
I came to Lucky's with a group of friends who highly recommended it. The menu looked promising, and I had difficulty deciding which sandwich to conquer.
I decided on the Fredo, consisting of ham, capicola, salami, and swiss cheese. All sandwiches come loaded with french fries and cole slaw on sourdough bread.
The fries and cole slaw really over-powered the sandwich for me. There was a decent amount of meat, but definitely lacked flavor. The only high point, in my opinion, was the fluffy sourdough bread. I finished half of the sandwich, and really didn't care to finish the other half due to the disappointing flavor profile.
The service was poor. It took over 15 minutes to get a second beer, and we received our check before even being offered another round. I would understand this kind of service on a busy night, but not during the afternoon with only a few other tables occupied.
I would not return, and would advise others to skip Lucky's.
I came to Lucky's a couple of times when I lived in Chicago and consider it a great place to stop by before a baseball game or during an afternoon in Wrigleyville. Set in Wrigleyville, Lucky's looks like a neighborhood staple and is well kept with nostalgia without being pretentious. The service is very good as are the prices.
The overstuffed sandwich is a daunting foe but one that a hungry dude like myself can put down without being able to get up and leave the premises in satisfaction. I believe I ordered a corned beef sandwich both times and enjoyed the quality of the meat. The oil/vinegar-based coleslaw gives your sandwich a good crunch and does not overwhelm like a mayo-based slaw. I think the fries are a little bland for how many are on the sandwich, but the idea of fries on a sandwich makes me tingle with joy. Perhaps take a few off or throw on some salt and/or ketchup. No problem at all.
The next time I'm in Chicago, I've got to get back to Lucky's and try some other options.
We were winging it with sketchy phone internet service on our way to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. I was amazed at SO MANY BARS surrounding the stadium. Â We found Lucky's a few blocks away with fewer loud drunks and no patio. Â
He ordered the "Two Bagger" that had pastrami AND corned beef. Â I had the Salami & Cheese. All sandwiches come with cole slaw and fries INSIDE THE SANDWICHES! Â Makes them huge but good. Â I would have preferred my cole slaw and fries separately to be able to taste the flavors.
I saw this place on Man vs Food and figured it should be pretty good.. Â Â The Challenge at this place was to eat three of their sandwiches in less than an hour. Â Â According to their stats, less than 7% of the people who attempt it are able to finish all three.... Â Â This challenge wasn't for me, so I just went to enjoy the food..
All of their sandwiches are topped with Tomatoes, Fries and Seasoned Coleslaw. Â Â Sounds good to me! Â I opted for the Two Bagger. Â A sandwich with Roast Beef and Pastrami with Provolone Cheese.
The bread was very soft and fluffy. Â It worked really well and tasted freshly baked. Â The coleslaw, however, was too vinegary. Â I like coleslaw, but to me it just tasted like vinegar soaked cabbage with no other seasonings. Â I really didn't like it at all. Â The fries were seasoned and were good. Â With the rest of the sandwich being drowned out by the coleslaw, there really was too little meat to taste. Â Eaten separately, the meat tasted fine, but nothing special. Â The fries and coleslaw drowned out the meat. Â A sandwich loaded with as much as this one is, there really needs to be more meat to balance the taste out.
Although this wasn't a place I'd return to, it was busy at lunchtime. Â Within 10 minutes of our arrival the place was packed solid! Â
Bottom line: Â Skip this one. Â Nothing special to see/eat here.
We stopped in here before a Cubs game because a friend recommended it. So glad we went! We were meeting some out of town friends and they were so excited to try the double bagger (I guess a lot of people said it's the best sandwich on the menu). My husband and I split a sandwich because we weren't that hungry, and that was a smart move. These sandwiches were HUGE and very tasty! The beer choices were pretty good, too.
The service was friendly, prompt and attentive.
We'll definitely be back and next time, we're bring our appetites!
My review isn't going to add anything new to the past bad reviews. Â By now Lucky's has had enough time to change the reoccurring issues with their food but I get the feeling they don't care.
Been here twice, I can't even remember the first sandwich I ordered but I do remember it was crap. Â Tried it again today in the hopes I had a random bad experience but I was met with the same disappointing basket of white bread, french fries, and vinegar (I had ordered a turkey). Â There is just too much of the SIDE ingredient and too little of the actual sandwich. Â If I wanted a pile of fries with my meal I would go to 5 guys. Â If I wanted vinegar overpowering my food, I'd go to England.
For some strange reason I wanted to like this place, but I highly doubt I will be coming back here again.
2 stars for the service
I took the Lucky's challenge!
Sike! There is no way in heck I could eat three of these monsters. I'd probably be dead before I finished the second. Cause of death: gluttony. In reality, I ate half of one and took the rest home. Womp womp. The sandwiches are ridiculously huge. And I ate most of mine with a fork. But they weren't just nasty ingredients that were sloppily thrown together. I really enjoyed my turkey and cheese sammy with fries, coleslaw, and peppers. All the fixins were nice and fresh, and the peppers gave it a good amount of heat (they ask you if you want peppers). AND to top it all off, the son of a beast was only $7.50.
I'm not big on the Wrigleyville scene after dark, so I can only imagine that Lucky's can get cray cray on the weekends. But on this particular weekday it was nice and quiet, and our server was beyond awesome. He was extremely friendly, refilled our waters and just gave us that all around "nice guy" vibe. I'll probably run a few miles before conquering one of these sandwiches again, but I'll be back!
Funny story lead me to Lucky's - I probably would have never gone here to be honest. I was really nauseous last week from stress (Im getting laid off from my job and they won't give me a date) and I couldn't hold down my lunch.
I stumbled into Lucky's and started wretching in the men's room. An older gentleman named Louis asked me if I was ok and we ended up exhanging phone numbers after we talked for an hour. I ate some bread but it came back up lol but Louis stayed by my side the entire 2 hours I was in there. The manager even came in to check in on me since I was being so loud so hopefully the next time I come back to Lucky's Ill be able to enjoy a couple of  sandwhichs lol!
Hubby and I lived around the corner from this place and though I've never been a big fan, he sure is. And whenever his friends visit, they usually go for a sandwich there, too. The one thing we both agree on, though, is that if there is a line for tables, we don't wait...not worth waiting for.
The vibe is very casual. Sometimes they get swamped, but service is still pretty quick and relatively friendly.
I always order my sandwich with the fries and the coleslaw on the side because I am not a fan of that stuff in my sandwich. About the only extra I like in my turkey sandwich are potato chips, or maybe stuffing and cranberry sauce, but that's a different season. Seriously, though, the sandwich is still okay with the stuff on the side, plus I think they must add more meat that way, because I noticed some reviews say that the meat was lacking and I've never had that problem. Turkey is kind of bland, but then turkey is bland, so why complain about that.
If you're from Pittsburgh or a fan of Primanti Brother's sandwiches, you NEED to come here!
Stopping in out of curiosity (and the "as seen on Man vs. Food sign), I was surprised to see a menu very similar to my college town favorite joint.
I went for the Two-Bagger (pastrami and corned beef) and was very happy with my choice. Â Great bread, well done fries, juicy meat and great slaw. Â I dare to say that Lucky's does a Primanti's Brother's sandwich better than Primanti's!!!
If you've never had this type of sandwich, the ratio or fries to meat (or anything else on the sandwich) can be strange or off putting, but I really enjoyed it!
After seeing this place on the food network I had to give it a shot. Â I love sandwiches with coleslaw on them, and I love fries, so why wouldn't I like them put together?
I'll tell you why, because there wasn't any meat. Â Just a coleslaw and fry sandwich on mediocre bread. Â Also got the chili cheese fries, and they were worse than the sandwich. Â The chili tastes like BBQ sauce? WTF??
Really every bit of food sucked, but the place and service is nice, so i give it two stars. Â I'd rather just have a beer.
The prices can't be beat, but the fact that all the "sides" are stuffed in your sandwich really take away from the actual sandwich. I pulled out a lot of fries just to taste my chicken (which there was barely any of!!)
The wings on the other hand were awesome. They have a LOT of flavors, think more than 6 to choose from.
The place is cute, the sandwiches are a plenty (you can get double meat or double EGG on some).
I think next time I will order the wings or get a more flavorful sandwich than just chicken. This place would also be perfect to stuff yourself before a big Wrigley drinking session (if you're into that).
Do you like sandwiches with 4 oz of meat, a sh*t load of fries, and cole slaw on them? Then this is the place for you. While your doing that  I will be at an Italian deli gettting a nice thick sub sangwich while your downing cole slaw and fries. I give them credit for the idea and hosting a food challenge but where are the meats? Cmon man.
Nice atmosphere and very nice people that work there.
I read a lot of the bad reviews from 2008-2009 and I must say that something must've changed since those people went to Lucky's. Â
I have been to Lucky's twice - once to watch my boyfriend participate in the "Lucky's Challenge" (as seen on Man Vs Food  - you must down three Lucky's sandwiches, fries and all, in under and hour or thirty minutes...can't remember the time) and again later after a parade in the Wrigleyville area.  Both times I had a pretty decent time.
I saw a lot of complaints about the lack of meat on sandwiches, which I had the complete opposite experience. Â All the sandwiches I've seen come with a ton of meat on them (almost food coma worthy) and were pretty good. Â I had turkey or chicken (can't remember which) but either way it was moist. Â The only bad part is that the cole slaw comes on the sandwich, and I am not a huge fan of cole slaw, but it's easy enough to just toss off to the side. Â The fries that come on the sandwich are pretty awesome too. Â
The other complaint was about the bread being bland. Â It is, but it's really meant to keep all the meat and fries contained, so it is not a big deal. Â I actually am happy they keep it simple with white bread because it would take away from the meat and fries if they used some bread with more herbs or something.
For the service, the first time I went was better. Â They seemed understaffed at the time, yet the bartender came out and made sure my boyfriend was enjoying himself and his horrible idea to eat three giant sandwiches. Â The second time my boyfriend and I ate here was about a year later - the waitress we had seemed kind of new and the food took a little longer to come out. Â She forgot to visit our table as frequently as we would've liked, so that took away from it. Â Still, the food was great and I left quite overstuffed and happy.
Definitely worth a try for the sandwiches - they're huge and come in a variety of different types. Â Try to go on a non-Cubs game day so it won't be as crowded!
Delicious!
We were looking for a lunch place and my step-son suggested Lucky's after seeing it on Man vs. Food. Â We are lucky he watches so much TV. Â These sandwiches were so good! Â
I ordered the steak sandwich, my husband got the salami and the kids got the turkey and a cheeseburger. Â We were all pleased with our choices. Â How can you go wrong when the fries are IN the sandwich and cole slaw counts as your lettuce? Â
The only downer was that we got there at the exact wrong time. Â They had just seated two large parties and we had to wait almost 40 minutes for a table. Â Luckily the food was worth it and it was pretty easy to pass the time while watching foolish boys taking on the sandwich challenge. Â
Oh and did I mention how affordable it is? Â Full sandwiches are $7.50 and kids size are $4.50. Â Outstanding!
I know I will be back because there are more sandwiches I want to try!
