Eh, this place is a trick.

From the outside it looks nice and relaxing, but really it's overpriced drinks and prepackaged food. Typical airport. I had this pretty gross really sweet drink and the BBQ chicken salad, which was a prepackaged, califorina pizza kitchen salad.

As I was sitting there I noticed the place across the hall "lemonade cafe." I checked it out after and will definitely be going there next time.

Coming home from Vegas with a layover in LAX = shots @ Malibu Al's! They opened for me at 8AM and charged us only $27 for 2 beers and 2 jameson shots. Idk if it was cuz they thought we were nuts for getting shots at 8AM or if it was just an oversight.... either way, SCOREEEE! :)

Out of several beers on tap. Folks working weren't very nice. Beer lines weren't clean and the beer tasted funky. I heard them say they were out of a lot of food also.  I would skip this one.

Here's a quick question for Al... if you're charging me $20 for two rum & diets, why can't you afford to have more than ONE server working on a busy Thursday night? Jeezus.

I was thrilled when I found this place because after a long day all I wanted was a drink, so I found a seat and waited. And waited. Oh and hey then I waited some more. One my waitress arrived she was really nice, but you can tell she had way too much work on her hands. I didn't end up ordering food because I was afraid it would take too long & I'd miss my flight, but I was happy to sit here and people watch while sipping my drinks. Which, I might say, were mostly ice... that makes the $20 bill sting even more. Oh well. When you want a drink, you want a drink.

This place needs a staff overhaul and should also consider giving guests a little more than they currently do, and I would be a much happier camper. I would even consider ordering that BBQ chicken salad that looked so good on the menu.

Al, you shorted me buddy. It hurts.

It was simply... Not good. I wanted to scream, "hello??! Its 2012, not 1985!".

Terrible.  Delta needs to add another restaurant that serves food.  No breakfast except yogurt and fruit and the rest of the stuff...well terrible.

Airport food, airport service, airport prices. The worst part is the lack of tequila in a margarita. How the fuck else am I supposed to get shit faced pre-flight when I'm paying $15 for a margarita smoothie labeled as a margarita loaded with my old friend Jose?

    Ugh.

Sadly the only bar in the Delta terminal (terminal 5), so they can pretty much get away with high prices and shoddy service. They also have "food" which is pre-made wraps and salads from a cooler. Skip the "food" it is expensive and not good at all.

Long wait.  Prices reflect the need to afford their capital spot holding you captive in an airport terminal.  Service, was poor, but entertaining: there were two waitresses who were verbally sparing: we were certain that a fist fight would ensue.  I won't complain about prices, it's an airport, but the food was subpar, equal in quantity to airline food.  Drinks were small.  Eat before you go.

This is not Malibu.  There is no Al.  There sure as hell is no beach.  There is a bar.  A very limited bar.  A bar with utterly absurd prices and not a local beer in sight.

The food is plucked freshly from the refrigerator case, a great example of farm to warehouse to processing plant to freezer to shipping to freezer to refrigerator to table cuisine.  However, after Shanghai I can see how that isn't all bad.  Service actually is not bad for an airport joint.  Most places don't pay any attention to time, which is slightly frustrating when their patrons are on tight schedules.  This one does... after a fashion.

Ok... they have Blue Moon on tap. Other than that, this is the worst excuse for an airport bar in recent experience. Cold, pre-fab sandwiches; a lethargic and disinterested staff and a lousy atmosphere makes for a bad time. My waitress had me close out my tab because she was going on a break. I don't have an issue with her taking a break, but why did I have to leave also? This place isn't worth your time.

Just another shitty airport bar that charges you something like $8.17 for a drink. Why the hell can't airport bars just round shit off?

Given the fact that they are located in an airport, airport bars are kind of hamstrung with how good they can really be.  Occasionally you'll encounter a decent one, but for the most part they're variations on the same HMS Host dictated theme of Bud Light and Sam Adams that are only "two dollars more for a large" and get yourself a sidecar shot for a few bucks.

Malibu Al's is no different, but it really falls short of meeting already lowered expectations.  The food options essentially amount to prepackaged bar snacks, although the CPK across the way will deliver to your table.  Drink prices aren't listed on the menus, the glass of wine I had tasted like it had been "opening" for a few days too long, and I think I saw one power outlet, which was of course in use.

Add to it all a level of service that might have been justafiable if it was a packed house, but with maybe half of the tables full, it's not unreasonable to expect a visit from the server every once in a while, if only to check if I need anything else.

To be frank, I'm not entirely sure why I'm going with two stars for this one.  I suppose it wasn't a wholly unpleasant experience, for which I tend to reserve the lowly one star.  But there's still plenty of room for improvement.

Avoid the food!  Drinks are okay - could make them a lot stronger given what you pay for them.

People seem to be very critical of an airport eatery...but I didn't think it was as bad as everyone wrote!  We got to the airport early for our flight home so we had some time to eat.  We were looking for a place to catch the Sunday night football game and Mailbu Al's was close to our gate and had lots of TVs.

Food was catered from California Pizza Kitchen which was located across from it.  Drinks were large and delicious.  Service was great and he made sure we were taken care of...with a great attitude!

Two tall beers and a buffalo chicken pizza later, I was ready to board my red-eye flight and pass out.  After a long night (traveling to LA) for a meeting that probably lasted less time than it takes to board an airplane, I had to go to LAX to catch my flight back.

There didn't seem to be that many food place selections in the specific terminal (Delta) I was at, so I saw things on tap and TV to watch the US Open and plopped down to kill time.

The seating is open, first come first serve... make sure you get the attention of the waitstaff since they can be a bit.... inattentive (I don't blame them that late in the day).  Either way, they were still friendly and got my beers and pizza to me eventually [I definitely had time to burn!]

Wow, it's hard to be this underwhelmed but here goes.

We had a 2 hour layover at LAX and decided to sit down at Malibu Al's.  After waiting five minutes I asked the girl behind me if we ordered from the bar or someone comes to the table.  After haughtily rolling her eyes, she stated, "Someone will come to your table."  Boy, I sure don't miss that Californian pretension.

So, after 15 more minutes I went up to the bar and ordered a vodka and seltzer for my fiance and he promptly got me the weak drink for 9$.  Then we sat, for a while.

After 45 minutes (yeah, I can't believe I waited that long) we just got up and left.  Not once did the passing waitresses ever stop to even look at us.  It's as if they were in a random fog of serving and cleaning.

In short, this place sucks and I'll never return.

Read all the scathing reviews of this place and be prepared for the worst bar experience of your life!

While waiting for a recent flight at LAX, Malibu Al's was the only vendor open due to the late hour.   One could easily understand that would mean it's busy and virtually impossible to get a seat at the bar or a table.  But it wouldn't explain the absolute refusal of the waitress on the floor to seat even some of us (all working professional travelers) when tables became available, nor the woman behind the bar who ignored each of us while we waved our money for 30 minutes in her face only to be ignored every moment.   It finally became comical to each of us, as we attempted more dramatic ways to get her attention to stop for just 30 seconds and get us a cold beer on a hot night, in spite of the fact she had plenty of time to serve us..

Unable to get a seat after our wait, we all left.  The place is a joke, the staff should be fired and new management installed.

I had an awesome time here waiting for my flight! I started out with a double Bloody mary, which was delicious, and then ordered a Tuna Salad Sandwich, also amazing. To finish it off before I boarded I ordered a double Ketel soda...I was golden. The staff was super friendly, everything was very clean, the bar was pretty well stocked and had almost anything you wanted, and everyone there seemed like they were having a good time! My favorite part was that I got a little booth in the corner where I wasn't worried about my luggage being in the way and I could comfortably sit and wait for my flight. I definitely recommend this place to anyone awaiting their flight.

My niece is 21 in November, but her fake ID allowed her to get sufficiently buzzed here in order to deal with our imminent flight.

I wish I drank, because maybe the pre-made Ca Pizza Kitchen food would have tasted better.  Or I would have cared less!

    For the sober one:
    Diet Coke ($2.99)
Classic Caesar Salad w/Chicken ($8.99) - salty, small chicken portion, but fresh romaine and a nice amount of shaved parmesan

    For the lush:
    Jack Daniels & Coke ($11.49)
    Malibu Party Punch ($12.49)
The Works Pizza ($9.99) - hot and cheesy, the world is definitely a friendlier place for carb lovers!

The upside is that we had a comfy place to sit and people watch, and kill time before our flight to NY.  Oh, and our server was super friendly!

I'm at an airport. I don't expect much. They are priced high but then again - isn't Everyone here? WE're AT THE AIRPORT! you can think along the lines of Disneyland, the Movies, any major sporting event... They can charge what the want and ALL do! So, either bring food from home and go sober for a few hours OR accept it and take care of your tummy growls and get ya buzz on ;)

Ps. My waitress was very nice and attentive. But then again, I'm not in a rush.

When I got to this place the waitress made me wait for 10mins keep telling me she'll get back to me. The menu is very limited on selections. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich thinking it would be fresh but gave me one in a container that I could have gotten myself from those small food vendors that you grab your food and and drink and go, and I would have saved at least $2 or $3.

Even for an airport bar, this place is shady: (A) they list beers on their menu, but not their prices and (B) they charge $9.50 for a Sam Adams, which is bullshit.

Just because you work in an airport bar doesn't mean you have to be incredibly douchey.

If you end up in terminal 5 stay away from this place. If you do end up here, avoid the unshaven bartender with the ponytail. Now you know.

Arrived at Delta terminal for a work trip around lunchtime and needed a meal. CPK ASAP had a long line and no available tables so spotted a small table at Malibu Al's. Drink menu is intriguing -- tropical cocktails like piña coladas, daquiris and margaritas plus an assortment of beer and wine. Waited for previous diners glasses to be removed from the table and to order. And waited. And waited. Waitress finally said she was coming but then took other orders. People were coming to the bar to pay to make their flights because she wasn't picking up bills. Gave up and went to CPK ASAP and saved the alcohol prices and tip. They're in an airport. They need more servers.

So, we are  trapped at LAX waiting for a flight. We see the sign for "malubu al's" with a little thing that says they have the "worlds best Mojito" and that they have food from CPK. So, we think "why not?". We sit down, wait about 7 minutes for our waitress, who proceeds to tell us her shift is over and we'll have to wait for the bartender. A little weird, but o.k., we can wait. Another 7 minutes and the bartender finally makes it over to us. This is when we realize that, even though CPK is litterally across the walkway, they have a limited menu of about five (bad) sandwiches. We order drinks and the incredibly overpriced mojito turns out to be incredibly bad. We order food and get poor sandwiches. And, to add insult to injury, I noticed the bartender taking the extra foam to make more beer for drinks. I know, sounds odd, but you'd just have to see it to believe it.Oh, final tab for three sandwiches, two beers and one mojito  - $60!
    Arrrggghhh...
