Marche has, like maybe, the best burgers in town.

The excellent service and warmth at this fine restaurant are matched only by the wonderful menu. These folks go the extra step. When we showed up for breakfast a half hour before opening they opened the door for us and served us a spectacular cup of coffee. We stop by now every time we are in Eugene.

The food was pretty good,  but the waitstaff didn't care at all. They walked around looking bored and blatantly disregarded a table across from us. Although we didn't receive the worst service in the restaurant, it was clear that the guests were not a priority. That being said, the dessert was nice as well. I'll have to try dinner next time, so maybe the staff will be more attentive.

This place is a time capsule to another era of dining. They don't do interesting things with their food. In fact, they do remarkably boring things to not-particularly-good food and charge inexcusable prices for the resultant mediocrity. Eating at Marché is like paying a premium to a car rental place for a 1970's Oldsmobile.

I have been to Marché twice in the last two months, and it does not disappoint. The restaurant is of the caliber that one would expect to find in a metropolitan city. Honestly, no other meal in the Eugene area compares to the quality that you find at Marché, because of this the price is higher than average eugene meal for two. I would recommend sitting at the chefs counter when not on a date, watching food prep being taken seriously is hard to come by.  The service was good and the wine was above par.  Plan ahead on reservations.

FOOD- 4 stars... Fresh local ingredients combined with quality preparation.
DRINKS- 4 stars... wine and cocktails were good
AMBIANCE- 4 stars... relaxed and comfortable.
    SERVICE- 4 stars no complaints
TOTAL- 4... Marché is undoubtable the best Eugene has to offer.

Went for breakfast and had tasty eggs benedict and good mimosas. A bit overpriced and not much atmosphere. Very few people dining while we were there yet service was rather slow. Limited menu for breakfast. Was OK, but would not return if back in the area.

First time here.  Felt very welcomed even though the place was packed on a Friday night.  Waiter was excellent and made great recommendations for both wine and food.  We shared appetizers of Provisions Charcuterie Plate (a trio of pates) and a very tasty Roasted Delicata Squash with paprika gastric topped with crispy shallots.  We also shared the roasted beet salad and a yummy grilled pear and prociutto salad.  Our entre was the Oven roasted Spring salmon with delicious chantrelle mushroom cream sauce.  We also had the pear tart and apple huckleberry crumble for dessert.  While definitely not inexpensive, well worth the dining experience.

I have heard people rave about the Marche Hamburger and now I have had the opportunity to try it! I called in the order as I work across from them and had them add bacon to it, because a burger isn't a burger without bacon! Right now the Marche burger is made with gruyere cheese, wild mushrooms and thyme aoli, then of course the bacon!

When I picked up my order and brought it back to work I noticed there wasn't any bacon and the buns were burnt. Let me state that I Hate sending things back, I absolutely hate it!

I walked back over with the burger and told the hostess, I hate to do this but the burger bun is really burned and there isn't any bacon on it which I had ordered. She was very polite and quick to get it back and remake it, even offered to bring it to me when it was done. Wow, that is great customer service! It gets better, a gentlemen delivered the burger to me. I of course thanked him and told him I noticed I wasn't charged for the bacon but I wanted to pay for it. He politely told me I didn't need to but I still handed him some money for how quickly and remarkably well they handled the situation. Then he comes back to give me ketchup for my fries without me asking, and next thing I know the gal who took the first burger back also brought me mayo and ketchup.

I was delightfully happy with the burger and fries, I understand why people rave about it! The service was exceptional!

Charcuterie plate, cheese plate: beautiful. Bartender (Evan) : AMAZing. Made us the perfect custom drink (altered manhattan sour with egg white and muddled peach)  to go with our dessert. Professional, creative, brilliant, personable. . Lovely experience overall. Thank you, Evan, for a lovely night out.

Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in town.  Great atmosphere, great food, great wait staff.  Very, very, very consistent!  My favorite for dinner, is the grilled beef tenderloin - but whatever entree you choose you can't go wrong.  Marche uses local vegetables and beef, so the sides will change depending on the season.  In addition, Marche' has the best wine selection in town - second to none.  If you want a fantastic meal, with fantastic service, and your in Eugene this is the place to go.  Oh, and one more thing...they now serve breakfast!  One of the principles in the restaurant, just opened a boutique hotel adjacent to the restaurant.  And to service the hotel, Marche is now open for breakfast - what a boon for Eugene!  Best eggs benedict in town? - you guessed it, Marche!

We had a light supper in Le Bar last night, our first night in Eugene. I had the Nicoise salad - just delightful, and my husband had the burger, the best he has ever had! Service was attentive, and the outdoor dining very casual and comfortable. The restaurant opposite the bar looks great too. Going back for sure!

FANTASTIC!  We were in Eugene for my daughter's Graduation.  We called to get a table, thinking no way!.  They had three seats available at the Chef's Counter and we took them.  It was great.  To see the Chef's work and to see the food go by, WOW it was amazing.  We ordered the Smoked Salmon Rillettes, the Pizzetta and the Fois Gras and were not disappointed.  Our Waiter was fun and engaging which we always like.  The entrees we chose were the Salmon and the Tenderloin, again fab!  Dessert was also great with the Rhubarb Galette and the Hazelnut Torte.  Bravo!

In town for my daughter's birthday.  She wanted to go to Marche for her dinner.  The little place was comfortable but the service and the chef need improvement. They were out of 2 menu items, 6:45 on Monday.  Most of the food was excellent.  There were 4 of us so we shared the appetizers.  The filet was over cooked.  After reading some of the reviews, I see this seems to be an ongoing problem.  No chance was I going to wait as the entree took forever to arrive.  The souffle was so rich, it was almost inedible. They did refund the price of the steak as none of it was eaten.

I wouldn't go here for a birthday celebration as there are no candles, absolutely nothing.

I have been a fan of Marche since they opened. Their regional dinners are always fun and you can always find something good on the menu.

However, in the last few months, since they opened Le Bar, my love for Marche is renewed!  Le Bar is casual, comfortable and the menu is outstanding; representing the best of casual French Cafe food.  Each of us  has our favorite dish.  I understand the Steak Frites is great, and the Marche Hamburger gets rave reviews, but I can't get enough of the Grilled Portabello Sandwich; if you like mushrooms, you really must try it.

Kids are allowed in the small area between the restaurant and the bar, and you have to get their early to get one of those spots but, if you are looking for a great, casual supper,  I highly recommend you try Le Bar.

My son Cameron is a junior at the University of Oregon at the time. Ever since his freshman year Cafe Marche   has been one of our favorite restaurants in Eugene . We have been there at least 10 times in the last 3 years and loved their food and service. Even my 82 year old father from Germany has dined there and loved it.

So when I decided to spent Mother's day with my son I asked him to a make reservations for Saturday at 7 and as usual looked forward to yummy food and great service.

We arrived for our 7 o'clock reservation on a beautiful day and were seated outside. I had not seen the new addition to the bar area and was exited to spent a nice and relaxing evening with my son on 5/12/12.  I live in Seattle, Washington and have been a foodie all my life. I have dined in great restaurants all over the world but look forward to this little gem in Eugene, Oregon every time I am in town.n

As soon as we were seated and the " energized and stressed out"  waitress came to our table I should have known that this visit was going to be different.
When I dine at a restaurant I do not want to hear about the stressed kitchen staff and all the problems and the items that are not  on the menu from the get go. I came here   to relax and have good food.  The job of the wait staff is to keep that to themselves not to  run around like a chicken with their head cut off from table to table and make everyone feel stressed.

Our waitress was the worst !!! We ordered appetizers and starters and asked the waitress of some of our favorite appetizers not on the menu. Instead of telling us that she will check with  the kitchen she rattled off the stress the kitchen is under at the time and that it would probably  wont be possible.  OK.

I ordered my beef tenderloin medium and when it arrived on my table the waitress looked at it and took it away  as it was charred an all the way done. I appreciated that even though  my son was having his entree. She returned 3 minutes later with snot her well done tenderloin.  I asked them to take it back again and this time the manager brought it out for the third time......
It was for the third time well done  not medium!!! They never even bothered to replace the vegetables and potatos that by now had been put under  the heat lamp for the third time and were absolutely disgustingly mushy plus  the tenderloin was still not medium .

The manager never bothered to come to our table and explain or at least  apologize for ruining our dinner. I never ate my entree , paid our bill  and left .
Maybe Matche  needs to do a better job hiring their wait staff especially a manager who actually care about their job and ha e the skills to manage one of the top restaurant in this city.

    *Review for LeBar at Marche*

Recently made my second visit to Le Bar to celebrate a birthday, in hopes for some classy cocktails and French Bistro-esque nibbles. I usually get my fix for such atmosphere and flavors from the Rabbit, but here's to new things-am I right?

Nice space, but crowded on a Friday night, with the new hotel open for business. Seat yourself, the three of us were told. All booths and tables by the bar were full. The only unoccupied options were the small, high tables with stools to sit at that sit between the dining room and the bar area.

It was busy, and our female server looked emo and seemed broody, like she didn't seem to be all that invested in our experience or wanting to be at work. Whatev.

Cocktails leave something to be desired, for the price. I like drinks with a balance of flavors, and among the signature mixed drinks I've tried here, I have found one hit among 3 misses:
*The pear sidecar was far too lemony, and needed a dash of sweetness instead of having to suck the sugared rim.
*The seasonal pear champagne cocktail was delicious, elegant, with just the right essence of pear among the flavors of the brut, but...
*the most recent version this drink combined champagne mixed with rhubarb and vanilla syrup was fine on it's own (a little sweet, less tangy than I hoped for) but did not mix well with any of the food ordered.
*The Zuribero (tequila, pineapple gum syrup, peychauds bitters & a lime twist) was really underwhelming in flavor, too strong, and was only consumed because the drink was pricey.

My date's expensive, imported karamelkreik-something beer was served in a somewhat distracting goblet, and it should be noted that the pours were uneven when comparing the two glasses he had. (Result: The Rabbit has far better cocktails.)

Food was pretty good. They were out of the roasted chickpea & aioli appetizer, and so we tried the Spring Tartine Trio, a trio of thick french bread slices topped with white bean & rosemary; melted leek, anchovy & parsley; herb goat cheese & artichoke chip. Quite tasty. The plump and juicy mussels were steamed in a delicious pesto sauce, and the french fries were absolutely perfectly crisp, salty and served with both aioli and ketchup. (Take that, Rabbit!)

5 cocktails, 1 bowl of mussels, 1 plate of fries, 3 big slices of baguette with stuff spread on them = $76. I left hungry, but moderately buzzed, so it was a slight victory.

I dined there for the first time the last weekend of Feb 2012, with my wife, while on a short getaway from the nugget weekend.

We reserved via the Yelp Open Table app while having a drink at Territorial Winery ( also a great place to try ).  Table for 2 at 7pm? no problemo.   As we were drinking our pinot, I recieved a call from the restaurant and the hostess explained that "Open Table isn't the best way to reserve a table, because it will accept reservations even when we're full".     She was very nice however, and said that we could still come at 7 if we wouldn't mind eating at a long communal table ( which is very portland style, so we were ok with it ).

We showed up and were told that a booth became available so we settled in.  The Manager came over and opened the wine we had brought with us ( a 2007 Shea Pinot Noir ), and commented that he didn't see many of them.

Our Server was very nice and did a great job... all the timing was perfect, and the food was great!!  The Wife loved that they offered a "side order" of foie gras and we were both in foodie heaven..  Oysters, charcuterie, cheese, steak, and foie gras?

At the end of the meal, we shared a glass of the pinot with the mgr and had a nice glass of dessert wine and shared a creme brulee.

One cool thing I noticed:  As we were leaving, there was a huge bread basket by the front door, with a server asking all of the departing customers to pick out a loaf or baguette to take with them.   I thought that was pretty cool, although i hope they share it with the staff as well.

We waddled back to our B&B up the street and slept like dogs.  What a great meal and even better weekend.

We were at Marche' as guests there as well as the new Inn at the 5th a few days ago.  I've only been to Marche' once before for lunch and it was pretty good.  We had a special menu and I am a vegetarian and I have to say, that option was perfect for me. I loved that they catered to me and created a few things to go along with the rest of the group.  The mushroom crepe was so delicious and I loved the Roasted Beet and Citrus salad.  My husband isn't a huge fish eater but kept talking about how the good the Steelhead dish was too.

If you are in Eugene or want to get away for a day or weekend, Inn at the 5th is a lovely boutique hotel and Marche' is a perfect choice for dinner.  By the way, the train station is so nearby, it's a perfect ride from Portland, Salem or Albany and just a short walk over to the restaurant!

Celebrated my birthday at Marche this year and was very pleased with the experience.  Marche is a wonderful venue and boasts one of the best menus in town.  I have to admit, they don't run the tightest ship but overall, without a doubt, Marche is one of the best restaurants in town! (probably not a surprise to most)

I had just a couple of issues as the service was a bit clumsy as the overstaffed floor had employees bumping into each other and our polite-but-nervous maître d (inexperienced and young) had me worried.  Our bill was totaled incorrectly and we had to point out that our wine wasn't included in the meal... what an honest guy I am!

That being said... what a TREAT!  Our meals were fantastic, prepared to near perfection with wonderful side pairings and every bite was complex and flavorful.  Our waiter was attentive and downright gregarious.  His advice was candid, honest and spot-on.  The wine was good and it's quality on par with it's price.  One of the best meals I've had in Eugene holds its own against some of the nicer restaurants I've been to in bigger cities like Seattle or Portland.  Bravo Marche!

On February 1, 2012 Marche opened for breakfast. I finally made it on Saturday the fourth. Fantastic breakfast fare. I always try the eggs Benedict at any new restaurant (or one starting a new meal) but I could not resist the crab cake benedict (substitute crab cake for the ham and muffin). It was wonderful. Two tasty crab cakes, two perfectly poached eggs and lemony perfect freshly-made Hollandaise sauce, a few fresh greens, toasted buttered thin-sliced baguette.  They also have a good selection of traditional breakfast dishes and a few of the chef's own, fresh squeezed juices, perfectly made coffee drinks. I had a wonderful blended black tea they call "Eugene Breakfast" and fresh squeezed sweet tasty Orange juice.

The food is as local and as organic as they can find, always, and always of the highest quality. I suspect that some menu items will change depending upon what is in season.

The bar is open for mimosa, bloody mary, or any drink you would like and many wines by the glass.

Why open for breakfast when you already have a very successful lunch and dinner crowd? The new hotel forty feet away on the same block, The Inn at The Fifth, will have its grand opening next week. Marche will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for hotel guests as well as room service. That just means that we locals can now enjoy breakfast as well as lunch and dinner at Eugene's best restaurant.

Excellent food and service!  Instead of ordering a main plate, I decided to order 2 starters and a salad.  I was really happy to see a place where you can order 3 oysters instead of 6 although they were so good that I could have finished 6 with no problem.  After the oyster, I had the chicory and apple and crispy prosciutto with a honey vinagrette.  How can you go wrong with this combination of ingredients?  As a matter of fact, it was amazing.  To end my dinner, I ordered the mussels with the apple-cider curry cream which was also amazing.  After I finished the mussels, I was dipping the fries and the bread in the cream.

Very good!  Just wish I had some room left to try some of the desserts!

Outdated interior. Uninspired menu. Overpriced drinks and plates.

There's not much going for Marche-- other than the fact that it seems to have a lock on the University-sponsored (or other employer-sponsored) lunch and dinner crowd (i.e. folks that ain't paying for themselves and, therefore, don't demand all that much of their dining experience).

To be fair, Marche is a reasonable restaurant, by which I mean a exceedingly bland albeit not entirely objectionable experience. If you want an interesting menu, excellent food, sensible prices and a cozy atmosphere, do yourself a favor and head over to Belly across the street.

One of the greatest restaurants in the Eugene area. Marché has some of the most magnificent food in town. Locally grown and raised products cover their menu which changes on a very regular basis. The managers show class and taste. The wait-staff are incredibly informed, polite, helpful, and warm.

The wine list is also littered with local wines but it is smaller than it used to be. However it is still extensive and filled with typically great tasting wines.

Dessert is always a WONDERFUL way to end this meal and for you after-dining coffee-lovers, Marché also pulls FANTASTIC espresso shots.

Last tip:: alway try their preparations of foie gras. They are always amazingly artful and delicious creations.

This restaurant must be experienced by those who truly enjoy the eating out experience!

Absolutely, hands down the BEST place I ate while visiting.  The raw oysters were super fresh and VERY tasty, almost as good as Hog Islands..almost I said.

The BLT is TOO DIE FOR! Heirloom tomato's, pork belly AND bacon, home made mayo on a crunchy brioche! Très magnifique!!!

The fries were awesome, the roasted veggies in balsamic glaze were awesome, the potato bacon cheese soup, AWESOME, Burger...AWESOME.
I love this place. I highly recommend it! I would love to go back, just not on that crappy Allegiant Air.

Marche is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Eugene. When we decided to have our small brunch wedding in the area I knew two things: I wanted Eggs Benedict & I wanted it catered by Marche.

Everything I've ever had at Marche has been wonderful. Such delicious, fresh ingredients really make a difference. Plus everything always looks pretty on the plate!

For our wedding catering, I actually think every single guest of ours raved about the meal thanks to our fabulous chef, Laura. Our server Bria was also fantastic! She was so attentive and I never had an empty drink glass! Michelle did a superb job coordinating everything to make my day PERFECT! Thank you Marche, you continue to be one of my favorite places to dine!

    NO NO NO NO NO!

Why is this place so expensive?  They don't even know how to cook meat or balance flavors.  They spent WAY too much on decorating this place and I just hate it.  I feel I wasted my paycheck.  Blech.

Over decorated.  Over styled.  This describes both the decor and the food.  They put sauces on the food that add color but taste WRONG.  It's like they wrote the menu first and THEN tried tasting everything.

We took one of our entrees home and recooked it for lunch the next day.  We took off their sauce and added our own.  SO much better.  What a waste.  I am not a trained chef and I can make their food better at home.  WTF?

    Two stories:

    1. I took the honey there last fall - it's pricey, but we hadn't been in quite a while.

Tasty waiter, good drinks.  When I nearly finished my frisee salad, I spotted it - a slug crawling through the greens on my plate.  Now, I'm not so squeamish, but I totally had the napkin at mouth/just in case.  Barfo!

The waiter was embarrassed and apologetic and called over the manager (been there, my friend).  He was all nonchalant, not at all sincere and just like "Hey, yeah, sorry about that.  It happens sometimes when you use organic greens."  Hey - eff you, dude.  I just ate mollusk slime off your precious plate.

When I told this story to my dear friend Dena, she shared her own recent experience:

    2. "Did we ever tell you how we went there for our anniversary last year, and not only was the food good-but-not-stellar, the place was empty and they sat us in the way back right next to one of the only other tables full of people, underneath a cooling vent. I was wearing a sleeveless top and was freezing, and when Russell asked if they could turn the air down, they said no. When he asked if we could then move to another table that was less freezing, they said NO. We stayed, but it really wasn't very enjoyable. And way overpriced if you ask me. I'll take Belly (or King Estate if you want really fancy) over Marche any day."

I don't care if you're chowing at a rest stop diner - nobody should experience this.  But at these prices, it's ridiculous.  Can you please pay someone to rinse the slugs out of my salad?

We've come here for years with varied experiences. What keeps us coming back is the local, quality food. My wife and I had a late lunch here on Sunday. The salmon was phenomenal. My bouillabaisse was under-seasoned and on the cold side.

We sat at the bar. Perhaps it was this perspective that brought some concerns to my attention, three in particular.

First, the head chef was texting while preparing food. He used the same hand to text and place my food on the plate. Not good. Second, the maitre de was also texting. So I'm wondering if there are things more pressing than fulfilling your job description. The third concern was the hacking cough of the prep chef. Food service folks, especially at a restaurant like this, ought to stay home if they're sick. Period.

I'll go back and will likely have a better experience.

I've eaten here a few times.  The food has either been overcooked or undercooked, but never just right.  Maybe people are being blinded by the incredibly high prices or think that the food is better than it really is simply because of the restaurant's purported reputation, but there are a myriad of other restaurants in Eugene where you can find better (and more) food for better prices.
The service has also never been anything to write home about.  I have always had to flag another waiter down to find ours before we could get water refilled or our desserts delivered.
Yes, the ambiance is quite good for special occasions.  So, if that's why you go, cross your fingers in the hopes that the specialness of the occasion will keep you from seeing the truth about the food.

Marche is at the top of my list of restaurants for "Good Eats" here in Eugene, OR!   Dishes are well executed, clolorful, flavorful, and seasonal.   Utilizing fresh, locally grown organic farms for their meats and produce, one can expect a fine dining experience to please the palette!

From the menu one can expect to find a good variety of French style dishes both rustic and locally interrupted by the chefs.   The plating is beautifully done with care giving the taster an artistic view of the Pacific NW finest provisions.   I really can't stress how wonderful it is to see the chefs taking such great care,  time and effort to craft the masterpieces that come from this kitchen.   The menus change per what is seasonal for the area.   Typically each month Marche also likes to offer Prix Fixe meals that take customers on a gastronomic adventure around France.

The Waitstaff were very professional and well trained.   The atmosphere is like a "fine dining" ambiance but but with a touch of a casual bistro style.   A nice but very simple wine and cocktail list help round out the dining experience.   BTW did I mention the Blood Orange Margaritas are exquisite!?!?!?

Hands down for me Marche is the pinnacle restaurant in Eugene right now!   Keeping the menu light and simple but full of flavors, using local organic ingredients, a wonderful dining experience that puts the spotlight on Eugene.

Marche is not a five-star experience.  Whether it is the best restaurant in Eugene is a separate question.  If it is, then Eugene has no five-star restaurants.

This note aside, Marche is a fine place to enjoy high quality ingredients.  The transformation of these ingredients into finished plates is sometimes unsuccessful, notably with desserts.  But the menu is seasonable and imaginative.  Fish is executed well, and salads are nice, if heavily dressed.

If you visit Marche, you should plan to order what dishes on the menu appear most simple in conception.  You should also plan to reacquaint yourself with the unfortunate reality that if a restaurant in a smaller city receives accolades, it will feel justified in charging New York City prices.  I wonder if the proprietors know that there still exist in New York a number of fine dining restaurants that have not yet passed the $30/entree plateau.

My visit to Eugene filled me with nostalgia for my college town (Davis, CA).  It was a blast to think back fondly on those days with my college sweetheart, now husband.  We mostly subsisted on dorm food and the typical cheap college fare cooked in our apartments.  It was always a cause for celebration when our parents would visit and take us out to a REAL restaurant.

So, while there is nothing like those crazy college days, there are advantages to getting older.  Now we can travel in style and eat real meals whenever we want too (well, at least whenever a kidsitter is available).

I didn't see a single college kid at Marche.  In fact, it is probably too nice even when the parents are in town.  Northwest freshness with French style and prices.

The service was quite good, with a little smugness mixed in.  I typically narrow my entrée choices down to two or three and get a little guidance from the server about what is exceptional at a particular place.

My innocuous question, "What are the most popular items on the menu?" was answered by, "Well (sigh)... just because it is popular, doesn't mean it is the best."  True, but there was probably a more diplomatic way to answer that question.

Now, I did follow the server's recommendations (somewhat) and enjoyed the meal thoroughly.  The mesclun greens and romaine leaf salads were light and zesty.  The bouillabaisse and pork entrees were wonderful, but the side order of roasted vegetables was the standout for me.  The Sparkling Cosmopolitan was a lovely cocktail and we rounded out the meal with the Apple-Huckleberry Galette (after the server noted, "You can get crème brulee anywhere") for dessert.  Actually the dessert was a bit of a disappointment compared to the rest of the meal.  So maybe sometimes popular IS the right choice.

They offer Stumptown French press coffee, but not in decaf.  And we're not kids anymore cramming for a midterm.  No real coffee for me after 5:00p.  :-)

Wow! Fine dining is alive and well in Eugene. Five stars for food, service, ambience, and wine menu, all top notch. I'd heard the owner/chef had been up for the Beard Award in 2008 and waited for an opportunity to try the restaurant out.

My wife and I went to Marche for our wedding anniversary and had one of the finest dining experiences ever. The restaurant was shutting down for a private function for Yo-Yo Ma after a concert at the Hult Center when we arrived for our 8:30 reservation. But instead of kicking us out into the night they gave us a more private booth because the manager explained they had a no turn anyone away policy, brilliant!

We ordered the charcuterie plate($9) for starters which included a duck pate, breseola, rabbit rillettes and cornichons. This was enough to be a light meal in and of itself. The flavors blended beautifully and prepped our palette for the main course. I ordered the ratatouille($22) and my wife ordered the black cod($29) and both were excellent. The menu is constantly changing and relies heavily on locally sourced foods in season.

The waitress came around just enough to make sure everything was going well and to check on each course which by the way were served perfectly spaced apart. The waitress waited to place the order for our entree's until we were 1/3 of the way through the appetizer, nicely done.

All said and done the meal with wine, coffee and tip cost just over $100 dollars. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny.

Note: This review is for Marche's catering efforts.

Marche catered my niece's June wedding at the Northern Lights Christmas Tree Farm. Ingredients were first-rate and the food was wonderful; apps included crab cakes, gazpacho, heirloom tomato crostini, etc. Mains were salmon, tenderloin, and some really beautiful grilled vegetables.

Marche earns five stars for performing with grace in a rustic, outdoor setting. The temperature kept spiking and dipping. It was windy. The ground wasn't flat. There were maybe a few too many tables squeezed in under the tent. The Marche mobile unit was well-equipped, and the staff handled everything flawlessly.

Marche had one chance to get it right, and they definitely got it right.

I had been told that Eugene had a lot of great restaurants.  We've been here for a few months now, and I hadn't felt that Eugene had lived up to that, in fact, I'd been fairly disappointed so far.  Tonight changed that in a big way.  My wife, parents, and I had dinner at March.

Dinner was superb!  All of us thoroughly enjoyed it.  The atmosphere was great - clean, crisp, yet warm, and relatively casual.  We had reservations and were seated promptly at a nice corner table.  Our waitress was great, and was helpful with the wine choices.  She knew the wines on their list quite well, as well as knew California vs. Oregon characteristic differences and other points that helped.

We started off with some great cocktails, and placed our order:
    - My mom: Heirloom tomato and goat cheese salad, side of chard to split with my dad, and the fresh, Chinook salmon.
    - My dad: Heirloom tomato and goat cheese salad, and the pork chops.
    - My wife: Trio of bruschetta for appetizer, and then she went for the heirloom tomato salad, side of onion rings, and side of beans with bleu cheese, for her entre.
    - Myself: Breaded/fried oysters, and the duck.
    - First off, the heirloom tomato salad was absolutely outstanding, all of us couldn't stop raving.  The tomatoes were perfect, the goat cheese was outstanding, and at the proper temperature, and the light dressing was killer (so good we asked how they made it, and plan to try to reproduce it at home :)  I ate a chunk of my wife's salad, and again, just stellar.

The fried oysters were ok, and are something sort of unusual for me anyway.  I think slightly lacking in flavor, but honestly, with all the other awesome food we had, it was fine, and we ate them all.

As for the entree's, all of them were excellent.  My mom loved her salmon, and I tried the pork which was very good - very juicy and tender, so often restaurants dry out pork, but not at all in this case.  Also, the grilled peaches that went with it were a really great match, and a nice change from the the more typical apples.

The duck I had was hands down the best duck I've had in as long as I can recall.  I don't order duck all that often, but had it recently in the Bay area, and it was pretty average on that occasion.  The duck came sliced, rare, with a extremely tasty crust around the edges, and in the most wonderful sauce!  Everyone was going nuts for the sauce, and in fact, we had them bring a little extra bowl for dipping the onion rings, as we found that a great combo :)  The sauce was the perfect amount too - by no means swimming in it, but also, enough to coat some of the potatoes and chard.

Speaking of chard, yes, we had a lot, given two of our entrees came with it, and we had two sides.  It was so darn good though that we ate nearly all of it, and took the remainder home.  Perfectly cooked, great seasoning, oh, just so good.  I wish I had more room, as I'd have finished it off.

Finally, we managed to save enough room to have some dessert.  My dad and I split the cheese plate, and my wife had the creme brulee.  First, thank you March for not putting berries in the creme brulee!  Very good.  The cheese plate had a small serving of the same goat cheese used on the heirloom tomato salad, and a Camembert I particularly liked.  Given the intent for this to be a dessert for one person, it was a good portion, but since we split it, I'd probably have liked to have one more cheese (not that our stomachs needed it!).  We also had some espresso.

The food was so good, I almost forgot we had wine.  Aside from a glass of malbec we sent back (and indeed, the waitress had told us it wasn't the best), the cab was good.  We had wound up going with just wine by the glass, as honestly, their wine prices are quite high - even by California standards.  They had a fair number of good wines, but with cocktails, and the prices of the wine, we just decided to skip it.  I guess that would be about my only knock.  Aside from that, outstanding.  Definitely the best meal I've had in Eugene, and March gets my vote as the best restaurant in town (that I've been to so far anyway).  I would highly recommend it.

Note, I'm giving Marche 5 stars relatively for Eugene.  I've been to better restaurants in other cities, but in Eugene, I suspect this will be the best of the best.

Marche has been, over the past few years, consistently the best fine dining restaurant in Eugene. Serving simple, unpretentious Northwest cuisine with French and Italian influences, they always manage to please.

Portions are neither gargantuan nor too small. The menu is seasonal, changing frequently, and always includes a wide range of carnivorous and vegetarian options.

Beyond the food, though, the service here is simply top-notch. If you go for lunch, it's surprisingly affordable as well.

    In conclusion, go.  Soon.
