Mark's is a great little place for a quick lunch. I've never been disappointed with anything that I have ever ordered there. The family that runs it is very friendly and they can season most dishes from spicy to mild. There is a wide selection of vegetarian dishes that make a great lunch or dinner. There aren't many Indian options in the area, so it's great to have Marks around.
Review Source:Good Indian food- thats all any Indian Restaurant is going to get from me, as I am Indian! I have been there few times, happened to have chat with the owner/chef of this place. I love his passion for cooking. He is open to cook things thats not in the menu, thats wonderful!
Its been a while since I went there, I miss it!
I just visited this place for the first time on 12/15/2012. Â The place looks like your average strip mall eatery/pizza type joint where friends come to have a good meal and some good conversation. Â There was only one other person eating inside the place on a Saturday afternoon. Â
I was not at all skeptical about the food, as the kitchen smelled great with savory smells of curry and roasting meat. Â The owner happily greeted us with a warm happy smile. Me and my family really felt welcome.
My mother ordered the gyro and I ordered the lamb curry. Â My younger brother ordered the royal goat curry. Â For appetizers we shared the bean salad and the kabob sampler. Â From start to finish the food was absolutely delicious. Â I have tried Indian food at many places in NJ and NYC and this place was the best I have ever eaten.
Our curry dishes were cooked to order and "spiced" to our exact liking. Â The goat was cooked to perfection. Â As most gourmands will attest, goat is a very difficult meat to prepare properly, it's by far a miracle to make it melt like butter in your mouth like a top choice filet. Â Ashwani nailed this dish in a way that would make Gordon Ramsay feel threatened.
The lamb was equally as good and was heaven in my mouth. Â My mother commented it was the best gyro she had ever eaten. Â It must have been because she at the entire huge portion, something she rarely does. Â That said, the portion sizes for the entrees were generous and we took the remainder of the goat and lamb curry home with us.
My brother and I plan on going here again and I urge any of you who are thinking about a great place with great Indian fusion to try Mark's Ooh La La Yum! Â You will be glad you did!
Above average food bur home like environment with friendly staff. Recommended for Indian food lovers :)
Edit: After trying so many other Indian restaurants, not to mention visiting India and having food there, this place is not the tastiest Indian joint. however, I will still give them 3 stars for the service and home like ambiance.
Got the chicken tikka masala lunch special with naan delivered, which was very nice because my order was under their minimum (but I didn't have a ride).. The naan was unfortunately burned, and the chicken tikka masala was bland with a surprising heap of scallions. It was also superrr oily. Additionally, they forgot my soda and didn't have enough singles for change, but they said I could stop by any time for the coke and change. Very nice people but unfortunately tasteless food..
Review Source:I have been to Mark's many times for his $7 lunch special that CANNOT be beat. Although the place isn't what we would call "fancy", you are always greeted by the owner and these little fried chip things with a sweet brown sauce (sorry for the lack of terminology).
After placing your order and specifying your level of spice desiredness, the meal is homemade and you can HEAR IT being made! The food always comes out fresh, hot, and delicious. Huge portion for lunch and always satisfying.
Have never been here for dinner, but it is definitely more of a lunch place. The reason for the 4 stars is that I wish it was a little nicer so that I would want to go here for dinner. Either way, I have never EVER had a bad meal here (maybe a tad bit spicy, but I'm always up for a challenge!).
100% recommend if you live in the area!!!
One of the best indian restaurants in north jersey. Mark is an incredibly warm person and his love for cooking indian is clearly evident in his food. Dont see what you like? Mark is always amenable to preparing off menu indian specialties if he's familiar with the dish. I can say confidently i have never been dissapointed. Try the tandoori shrimp, roasted corn and royal goat curry.
Review Source:First of all, Mark's OLLY is never crowded, which facilitates one of its strong points -- personal service. The owner, Ashwani, is extremely friendly and nice and will make any dish the way you like. He will suggest dishes, add spices after serving if dish is not to your liking. He may forget to refill water, but just ask because he is always happy to serve.
Second, the food is very tasty and delicious. We got the Lamb Kabob, the Chana Masala, the Chicken Tikka Masala (and another) as well as the Samosas appetizer. All great, no complaints from anyone. The food may trend on the spicy side, since one of my group thought it was a bit on the spicy side. Only knock may be that the lunch can be a bit pricey if you add some Nann or other side, but the portions are large to make two meals out of it if you are worried about a low budget meal
Mark's OLLY is worth going out of your way for some tasty Indian food.
Remarkable. The owner, now retired from a career in the garment district, makes food as a passion. It comes through in the cooked-to-order results. He will deliver, too- just call and ask. He'll make special requests. This is precisely the type of restaurant Yelp users should want to promote. Tell the world about this place.

So. Stinking. Good.
I got a random hankering for Indian food recently, something I haven't had in years, my wife hasn't had in 2 decades, and my teenage kids never. Yelp done right by me when it steered us here. Â Very close to home, too.
First of all, the owners were super nice and helpful to a bunch of obvious Indian food noobs. Â And the food! Â Ordered several appetizers to kind of break the ice with the family, and sure enough they were scarfed down. Entrees were even better. Â Lamb curry, lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs and "butter chicken" were demolished. Â Outstanding all around.
By unanimous agreement, Mark's is now on our local restaurant rotation. Â I only hope it's doing ok...we were the only customers on a Friday night, not an encouraging sign. Â Especially when the food is so darn good.
I have tried just about all the indian restaurants in the Queens and rockland to Northern NJ area.  And i have to say this was one of the hidden gems.  I was hoping to be one of the first to review it but alas i am not the only one.  Good flavor to Ashwani food.  I almost missed the place because of the name they have listed on the outside.  Ashwani and his wife will ask you how spicy do you like it.  And i must say the food he serves tastes really good.  Unfortunately he did not bring us any water and that disappointed me.  But maybe he was just excited to see newer customers.  He def is very talkative and loves his cooking.  And they make everything by hand cause you can see his wife in the back making the food.I tried the eggplant curry.  His servings are large so you will not be disappointed.  He also made an excellent dessert for me withing 15 min fresh.  I forget what its called  its taste like sweet grits.  He calls it Hallawa.  i asked for carrot hallawa but brought me this.  It was garnished with sliced almonds.  it was delish.  I proceeded to slap my mama after dessert.  Please go and try for yourself.  Its the real thing.
Review Source:I was really pleased that there is a decent indian place in the area.
Mark's is a family run spot. Â Mark and his wife are two of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, and will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy with your meal.
The curries here are really nice, spicy, aromatic, and complex. Â I do have some issues with the chicken curries occasionally (they cook it tandoori style and then pour the curry over it--I prefer it when the chicken is slowly stewed in the sauce, giving it that fall-apart-y texture).
The best thing I've had there is the Chat Samosa, which is 3-4 samosas smothered in spicy sauce and cool yogurt sauce, chickpeas, and a variety of chutneys.
I'd definitely hit up the lunch special if you can, you get a good amount of food for 6-7 dollars.
The food I'd give a solid three stars (four on a good day), and the service a five, culminating in a final four stars.
I liked the food at Mark's. Â I got a pretty nice lunch combo for about $9. Â My lamb wasn't prepared as spicy as I would've liked but it was still good. Â I guess maybe sometimes it's nice to actually taste the food instead just trying to get blown away by spice. Â I hope that Mark's stays open because it seems like a pretty unique place for the area. Â The owner is a nice guy too.
Review Source:Another hidden gem with absolutely no one inside. It is not the best Indian food I have ever had, but Norwood and the surrounding towns have so few restaurants that this more than suffices. The owner is very friendly and cooks to order. Try it and help keep this place stay in business.
Edit as of 11/26/09:
I had Mark's again, and this place is quickly becoming a favorite based on price and proximity. I have learned a few things in my time there:
- the owner, Ashwani (not Mark), helped develop MC Hammer's ridiculous pants
- Ash also designed Patrick Ewing's wedding tux
- Ash lives around the corner
- Ash has NO PROBLEM waking up at 3am to make you food. He loves it. Although, I made a personal rule that I will not wake him up for an order totaling less than 30 or 40 dollars. I hope you all follow this idea as well. No sense is waking up a class act like Ash for less than 10 bucks.
