mmmmmm Melita's! I really enjoy eating here. I love the Greek Platter. For just $10 you get a huge plate full of food. Â So much food it lasts for lunch the next day. Â The Gyros is the way to go. The meat is juicy and flavorful. The pita is fresh, I bought some from the market when I first came here because I liked it so much. The platter is also served with a dolma, hummus, and a heaping portion of the greek salad which I also love. I kinda mix it all up and eat it on the pita. Then I have the baklava for dessert! Â It's become my staple at Melita's. I've also tried a supreme gyro that was pretty amazing. It was a typical gyro but it had guacamole! Yes, you read that right, guac on a gyro. Kinda strange but very tasty. Â My husband and I split a greek quesadilla once too, it was made with chicken souvlaki and cheese then we dipped it in tzatziki. Â Melita's specials are indeed special.
After driving by Melita's for years I am very happy we finally stopped in to check it out. We are now loyal customers as long as Melita's is around. Â My only wish is that we lived closer so we could take advantage of the delivery. But maybe it's best that we're not!
Melita's is your quintessential greek diner. Â The staff is nice, the gyro stand is twirling behind the counter, and they house a nice selection of traditional Greek grocery items for sale. Â Both the gyro breakfast sandwich and traditional gyro sandwich w/ fries were good choices. Â Nothing fancy, but the exact flavor you're craving. AND they refilled my coffee for free in a to go cup which I thought was fantastico.
Review Source:Thank you Denver Daily Deal! Spent $10 for a $20 deal and it was worth it. My bf and I both ordered the Chicken Soulvaki Platter and it was really good. Greek salad, marinated chicken, a warm pita and a small tasty piece of baklava - all for only $9.99.
My only complaint was service was pretty slow and there wasn't anyone else waiting for their meals. If we're in the area and in the mood for a Greek salad this will be a place to go.
Everyone who lives in the neighborhood has definitely barreled past Melita's heading down Lincoln Street. Â Pump the brakes; because this is one of the best Greek food joints in the metro. Â Incredibly fresh salads, falafel, gyros, burgers, etc.. I've lived in this neighborhood for 7 years and just recently popped in.. I regret all the time we missed together and I plan on making up for it.
Review Source:If you're looking for sit-down quality Greek food at fast-food speeds, this is the place! We ordered the falafel platter and avgolemono soup (lemon chicken and rice) and were served immediately by the exceptionally friendly staff. The avgolemono was a little too creamy for my taste, but it the flavor was amazing! Very lemony without being sour. The falafel platter was also very good, with plenty of fresh greens and perfectly blended hummus. As an added bonus, the platter also included dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), which were not listed on the menu. We all but licked the plates clean and left happy.
Review Source:Melita's greek cafe is a cute little place to go for lunch. I wouldn't say that it was the best gyro I've ever had but it is was pretty good! The staff was extremely friendly, after we had ordered and paid I saw that there was a $12 for $20 deal on yelp. I asked them if we could still do that or not, and they were happy to oblige. That was a huge plus in my book! We will definitely go back.
Review Source:I went here for the lunch the other day and wasn't that impressed. Not much of a selection of Greek food, just salad and stuff off the grill. It seemed like there was more American food being offered than Greek.
I was in the mood for a good Pastitio and did not have any luck here; guess I should've looked at the menu online before heading over.
Fresh, big portions, and reasonably priced! Â Melita's is a tiny Greek grocery store/fast food restaurant with amazing food and quick service.
I tried the Falafel Platter as well as the Chicken Gyro over the span of 2 visits. Â The Greek Platters include a fairly generous portion of salad, warm pita, and..drum-roll..BAKLAVA! Â Every aspect of your order can be personalized so feel free to let your foodie imagination soar.
This joint is perfect for a speedy afternoon lunch- especially if you want to catch your 1pm meeting.
I purchased a groupon to Melita's and I am glad I did! The gyro is fabulous, the gyro platter my boyfriend had looked really good...I was jealous he got a piece of baklava with his meal, but he was willing to share with me. We went back this week and tried the Grecian Delight platter  its a great way to sample almost all of the menu and still have plenty of food to take home  We have only been for dinner during the week and it's always been quiet. The staff is friendly and service was quick.
Review Source:Great tasting reliable food.
Melitas is one of my go to greek places now. Â Very clean, very organized, and a wide selection of grocery products. Â
I have driven by Melitas several times, but for convenience there is middle eastern place just a block away from me. Â Â I was very surprised to see the variance in the two places. Â Now the decision will just be "walk or drive."
I had to try the gyro which is a gauge of Greek/Middle Easterm places. Â I was not disappointed. Â The lemon chicken soup was delicious. Â They generally have a wide variety of foods, I even saw Fish and Chips on the daily specials menu.
I am debating breakfast or lunch there tomorrow?
DT
Yum! Â I recently used a groupon here and was really impressed. Â Pretty quick service and I got a delicious chicken souvlaki wrap. Â The tzatziki was perfect consistency- not too thick, which made it easy to pour little bits on every bite. Â The wrap had large pieces of chicken and came with fresh tomatoes and onions. Â The fries were super crunchy and crispy- almost burnt...my favorite kind. Â
3/4 of the employees that we encountered were really friendly. Â The guy taking our orders, not so much....but in his defense he was probably busy. Â The menu board was kind of confusing as to what comes on the wrap, salad, or platter. Â It didn't explain much and we were confused. Â The guy taking orders seemed kind of annoyed that we asked questions about what the differences were. Â Even after he explained one comes with baklava, no salad, etc. etc, I still wasn't sure so just stuck with the wrap. Â If you're in doubt, just order that- you won't be disappointed!!
This is pretty good Greek food. Â The service was on the ball, too, no waiting around, and the guys were pretty nice. Â
I got the gryo platter which came with a large salad, and an alright( I wish it was more) amount of meat with a very small portion of baklava. (oh and some feta cheese). Â I also had the falafals, which were really good.
I wanted to take home some sweets because they were good, too, however I think they are a bit pricey.
Spectacular!! Just ordered a gyro wrap for delivery. The pita was warm and soft, the meat was delicious, and the tomatoes/onions were fresh. It wasn't cheap, but it was more than worth it and I LOVE that they gave me the option to forego a side and took $2 off -- I've never seen a restaurant give you that option before. Delivery person was fast and courteous. Will be ordering from here again.
Only negative is that there was nowhere near enough tzatziki. Definitely ask for extra.
Melitas is awesome! They really hit the Greek feel on the head. The owner is such a doll.
The lamb gyro is HUGE. Its the ultimate gyro. The veggies are cut fresh, and lamb seared RIGHT in front of you! I love this thing (I'm going here today). The dolmades (grape leaves) are really good sometimes, but sometimes they are a bit greasy. I wish they offered the dolmades stuffed with lamb instead of only vegetarian!
They are open late, which is awesome, and the whole of this restaurant is awesome. Its clean, and they offer a small store(ish) with Greek goodies to take home and prepare things yourself!
I used to come to Melita's for my Feta, kalamata olives and Filo.
In the past, they would cut chunks of Feta to order, just like
in a New York City deli, so if you wanted 4oz of Feta,
or 2oz of Feta, no problem. They evidently have changed
this policy though. The last time I was there Melita herself (sexy body, bad attitude)
waited on me and refused to cut my Feta to order.
She rather rudely and smugly directed me to
the pre-packaged Feta chunks. I needed some for
some spanakopita for a potluck so bought a chunk
but regretted it. I now get my Feta and Filo from
the Jerusalem Market on Evans. I'd even get my
Feta from Kings before going back to Melita's.
Average to unpleasant food, way overpriced.
It was pretty busy when we went in for lunch, but we got our food quickly enough. First, the good things: my chicken gyro was quite good, and the salad dressing was very tasty. Now, the not-so-good: The side salad that came with my gyro as well as the so-called chef salad my lunching partner ordered were about 50% rotten greens. We picked through as best we could, finally managing to flag down an employee. He took a look at the pile of rotten greens and denied to our faces that they were rotten, suggesting that they were merely wet. I assure you I know when lettuce is rotten vs wet. Later, he brought us complimentary baklava -- nice thought, and I appreciate the effort, but it wasn't very good either. Finally, the chef salad itself was a mere approximation of such a thing, with a few crumbles of bacon and feta, some tomato and avocado in addition to the aforementioned greens.
I'll be purchasing my overpriced lunches elsewhere.
Look I'm giving Melita's a five star for what it is.  The price was very good for what I and my gf had.  We each had the platter  with Lamb, salad, and Pita bread along with a scrumptious slice of heaven.  The atmosphere wasn't anything to write about and we ended up sitting outside along the busy street anyway.  The price for our three course lunch was twenty dollars for her and I.  The caliber of the food was on par with a forty plus dollar ticket.  In other words,,, We'll be back!
Review Source:Wow, it was pretty busy today at noon and it looked like they had enough staff running around, but I thought our food took a long time to come out and then my dish had the wrong side.
I had the gyro which was quite tasty with a side salad. It took will power to not get fries as a side and that's what they gave me at first. Rather than give me a plate to keep my sandwich they took away the entire plate for nearly 5 minutes and then it wasn't hot when I got it back. And they forgot my feta.
Will I go back, sure, but not for a while. I don't like poor service and cold sandwiches.
The food here is average and nothing spectacular. Â There are plenty of other Greek restaurants with comparable food. Â
However, what set this place apart was the horrible service. Â The blonde woman was cold and rude. Â I had ran out of pita bread and asked for more. Â She seemed completely confused at the concept of a customer asking for more pita and refused. Â So instead of satisfying a customer with 2-3 pieces of pita, which would cost them 25 cents at most, they decided to have horrible customer service. Â I've never had a Greek restaurant say no when I've asked for more pita bread especially since its so cheap.
One of the best chicken souvlaki sandwiches that I've had in a long time.
It was 6 PM on a Friday night and they close at 7 so it was pretty empty - which is great because we didn't have to wait very long for our food.
The staff was nice and inviting. Â For the sandwich and fries - with a small additional add for the feta it was just under $10.00 Â I've paid more and gotten worse food - so after the fact I was more than happy to pay the $10 for this meal. Â They also have a small grocery in the dining area which seemed to have a nice selection of olives.
If I'm in the area I'll definitely make a point of stopping in again.
I went to this place for lunch while on a recent visit to Denver. While it was somewhat busy, it wasn't more than you'd expect on a Friday at lunchtime.
I had slight mix-up with my order but the manager contacted me on here and explained the situation, which I now understand. They have been redeemed in my book!
Also, the Gyro Sandwich was the best I've had and I'll definitely be back this Spring. Thanks for caring about the Yelpers Melita's!
Really great Greek comfort food. The gyro platter can easily feed 2 (although you might want to buy a 2nd piece of baklava) and the avegolemono (chicken and rice soup) is the best in Denver. The owner is pretty much always there and she is helpful and a sweetheart.
Also, if you're a dolmades fan, like we are, you can buy them by the tin for an awesome price; you get about 20 for the cost of 6 at most greek places.
First off, this could have easily been a three or four star review. Â If the management is reading this: A little goodwill is certainly worth the cost of a Baklava.
I was a bit annoyed with this place for two reasons. Â First was the inefficiency of the staff. Â True, nobody really likes feeling as though they are on a conveyor belt like at a fast food chain, but without getting into it, this place was slow even with almost no customers there.
The other issue was that they have a Yelp deal but I, failing to read it fully, tried to get the deal in the store when it specifies that it is for delivery. Â Honestly, I'm a little shocked that they didn't just accept it to make me a happy customer.
Beyond that the food I had was good. Â Veggie pita and some egg dish. Â I'd have put it at around a 3 or 4 on food alone, but I'm not likely to go back. Â A bit too far to bike for mediocre service.
I've escaped my office many times to make the two block walk to Melita's for lunch. It's a great break from all the fast food and sandwich shops in and around Capitol Hill.
Melita's serves breakfast (they have a HUGE breakfast menu!), lunch, and an early dinner.
You'll be able to please most anyone here - on a diet? Have the greek salad or veggie wrap. Most definitely NOT on a diet? Go with the greek burger, which is a beef patty with shaved meat piled on top. It's delicious.
A slight downside is that Melita's is usually pretty slow. But hey, it's not McDonalds. I find the food worth waiting for, I just wouldn't go here for lunch if I were on a tight schedule.
The cafe itself is pretty small, with plenty of tables crammed inside and a few on the patio outside. If you're seated inside, you may have people bumping into you while they check the coolers for great imported Greek items to bring home - a bottle of olive oil, a jar of olives, a platter of baklava, some fresh cheese... tons of good stuff. Enjoy!
I am not a Greek food expert by any means, but...I did in fact go to Greece this summer so I was able to eat my fair share of the authentic sh*t. Â So...maybe I know a bit more now than I did before. This was the first time having Greek food since my trip.
The four stars is NOT for the ambiance-it's very casual, cafeteria-like. There is a grocery section you can get Greek items too.
One thing I've been craving for a long time is the egg/lemon soup. I'm actually convinced this isn't really an authentic Greek food item- since I never saw it during my time in Greece. Surely doesn't mean I won't eat it though. I decided to get this soup and the chicken souvlaki platter.
Platters are the way to go! You get a lot of food and then baklava for dessert. Â The chicken was flavorful and awesome. Â Their pita bread rocks. The tzatziki was a little runny though. Totally get the hummus, it is out of this world. Â They closed at 7, and didn't seem to mind that we lingered a bit longer after that. Very friendly service! I even liked the gyro meat- something that I don't normally enjoy (don't really like lamb).
I'd say this is one of the better places around town to 1-get good Greek food, and 2-have a good meal for under $10.
Upon my most recent visits I have noticed something rather upsetting...this place is sooo busy that nothing seems to go right. I am glad they are doing well, but sadly they will lose loyal customers if they don't pick up the quality of their service...
I will say, the food...it still rocks..if you don't mind waiting forever for it during the busy lunch hour...which I will..it's still the best in town from my point of view.
I love you Melita's, but please...get back to business!
Yup, yup, yup, I still really like this place! I'm pretty much always craving a gyro, and yesterday was no exception. I dragged Yvonne C with me for some grub while we were waiting for my new cruiser to get outfitted at Campus Cycles.
So, apparently 3:30 p.m. is an ideal time to visit this joint! (They are open until 7 p.m. FYI). Not crowded at all, as would be expected. Their freezer section was empty on this visit, but they still have numerous shelves stocked with imported goodies (olives, honey, olive oil, grape leaves and the like) and a small cooler with cheeses and other delights.
The gyro was predictably good, and the combo is served with a side of fries and a runny-style tzatziki sauce. The grape leaves are always a good thing to order, and Yvonne ordered a small Greek salad. (Humph. Salad??)
If you're craving some Greek goodies, I definitely recommend this spot!
When I saw the outside of Melita's Greek Cafe, I wasn't thinking four stars. Â When I saw the inside of Melita's, I was definitely not thinking four stars (it reminds me of the cafeteria you see in a lot of circa 1970 office buildings - if you work in education or in government, you probably know what I mean). Â But after coming here a few times, I'm certain it deserves a solid four stars due in part to the consistently good, filling meals, but also due to the friendly staff.
The food is your basic greek cafe regulars with a few additions based on the fact that they've already got a grill and a fryer (e.g., fish'n'chips, burgers, etc.). Â I'm not a huge fan of the falafel since they tend to be a little crispier than I like, but I still get them occasionally. Â The combos are filling and are a good mix of heavy, light and sweet. Â Plus, the fries are good, and I will admit that occasionally I have eaten a fry that came into contact with the hummus or the tzatziki sauce (and usually that contact happened because I was dipping my fry directly into the hummus or tzatziki sauce).
Like I said, I've found the staff very friendly (it's run by a mother-daughter team - they're in one of the photos), and I've ended up in a little conversation with them more often than not. Â I can never time my lunch like normal people (I'm either starving at 10:00 or I look up and it's 2:00), so I can't say what it's like at peak hours, but I've never waited in line more than a few minutes and I've never had to wait long after ordering.
We've come here a few times for a hassle-free working lunch since there are options for vegetarians, and an order of hummus is big enough that you can split it with a few folks. Â Plus, though you order in line, they bring the food to your table so you can start working and don't have to hang around at the counter.
If you're reading this and asking yourself "why haven't I been to Melita's yet?", then you need to get with the program. Â This place is yelping highly for a reason. Â The food here is fantastic. Â I end up here far too often (or maybe not enough!).
I'm absolutely stuck on their greek platter, which includes gyro meat, pita bread, tzatziki sauce, greek salad with balsamic vinaigrette and feta, a dolma, and a small piece of baklava. Â WOW, talk about a food coma at my desk in the afternoon, but it's worth it every time. Â I mean seriously, try reading all of that and ordering something else.
Sorry Pete, my heart will go on for you, but I can honestly say that I like Melita's better.
This place just smells delicious. Right when you walk in your nose is assaulted (in a good way) with the aromas of Greek food. Laura L and I met up for lunch here the other day and it's a cute little place that kind of reminds me of a cafeteria in its set-up. You go to the back, pick up a tray, and order from the lady behind the counter. If you want one of their cold items such as Greek salad, hummus or dolmas then you take it out of a little sliding door cooler before you order.
As a side story once I had a friend who upon taking a bite of falafel said "I'll never eat anything that ends in 'awful' again. While we laughed a lot at that the truth was those falafels were pretty bad, but I think this friend would have a different reaction with the falafel at Melita's. It was one of the many pieces of my lunch and they were so delicious.
I also enjoyed the Greek salad, a dolma and hummus. For just under $4 you get this giant tub of hummus. In fact I think I ate about 1/8 of it and took it home for use throughout the week.
It's a nice spot for a quick, casual lunch if you're in the area. Oh yeah. The big sign says something other than Melita's so look for their small sign.
Things You Must know about Melita's:
1. Upper Average food. Â The greek salad is bombin and very good.
2. Prices are between $5-$9
3. Fries are extra and you do not get many of them when you order a meal.
4. Gyro is good. Tzatki is good. Â Nothing mindblowing though.
5. Some of the grocery items they sell are pretty low in price such as pastas. Â Check em out if you eat there.
6. large dine in area that is casual.
7. Reminds me of a place to come if you work or live close.
8. Can park right in the straight  lot on the side of building.
9. I would walk if I were close at a bar or just in the area. Â Would not drive more then 5 minutes to come to Melitas. Typical good greek fair, but there is better in Denver.
Love it!  I crave  Dolmades with tzatziki  all the time-  and they have can of them and homemade tzatziki  !  mmmmmm  I think their gyros are fabulous!!  I love all their special items!
I love that this place is a short walk away from my home! Â The hospitality is Awesome! Â Really nice people! Â Great Place!!!!
Have passed this place over and over again, and finally decided to wander on in.
Very clean place, with a few groceries, frozen greek items, and some refrigerated goods.
I came in for lunch though, so I quickly perused the menu and ordered. Â Gyro sandwich and dolmas. Â The food ordering area starts with a small refrigerated case that sits on the counter and encourages you to take salads, dolmas, whatever from it on your own! Slide on down the metal bars in front of the short-order cook and you see a clean prep area and fast workers. Â I felt like I was in an old, quaint, hospital cafeteria.
Food was decent. Not as spicy as I like, but definitely tasty and fresh. I will definitely be back.
I just wish they had a big olive bar...but oh well.
ps-get the feta on your sandwich-for fifty cents, it is worth it if you are cheesy like me!!
