Either we hit Mom's on an off night (we did go just an hour before close) or, well, we are pickier about a few things.

    Pro's for us:  Proximity
                          Wings
Con's:  Those potatoes you all raved about were from a box.  Or at least the ones we had were.  There was cheese, yes.  But they were cold and dry.  The rib tips were dry and 3 steps up from jerky.   The brisket didn't taste bad, but there was no smoked flavor and the sauce was bland.   The beans weren't tasty, but if you've had Pollo Campero's  beans, you've had better.

Again, we could have hit on an off night or got there too late.  But unless we want some quick wings, we'll think before we go again.

    Don't tell my vegan husband!!!
Family owned and operated makes for a comfortable feel. Great service by the guy working the counter ("Mom's" son)- he gave me a review of the menu and told me which were his favorites and the most popular items. Did the rib tips first time in- great sauce but wish there were more. Second time in did the brisket dinner (per his recommendation) YUMMMM! The mashed potatoes are magical and my kid wolfed all my mac&cheese. I'm a sucker for good customer service but will return for the fantastic food. Not a BBQ joint within miles-this one is a welcome addition to the Belmont Central neighborhood.

Finally tried this place after hearing about it a while ago. As a person who has tried many BBQ joints, I have to say its a pretty decent place. It's not the best but it isn't the worst. I think they really need to work on their sides. We ordered brisket sandwiches which were nice and big. It had some fat in it but the fat is what makes brisket so good. Two problems I had with it. The brisket was particularly dry and the Texas toast was chewy. Now I came in 30 minutes before closing and the bread and brisket had probably stopped being fresh hours ago but it's no excuse. People who've been to Smoques or Smokeys BBQ will never have that problem. Smoques primarily because its always busy and Smokeys because they consistently keep their food fresh. With that said, the brisket was still tasty and the BBQ sauce is really, really good. The biggest issue were the sides. The mashed potatoes were the best overall. Very buttery and tasty. It has no gravy but it doesn't need it. The corn on the cob and the curly fries were decent but not stellar. Were it got bad was at the mac and cheese. It was pretty awful. Bland, flavorless and clunky. I know its harsh to say that and the owners will probably say "who the f@ck does this guy think he is?", but I'm a consumer and I'm just giving my honest opinion. People need to learn how to take critiques. What better way to better yourself then to listen to the consumers concerns and opinions. So again, the mac and cheese was bad. It almost tasted like it came from a box. If it didn't then it fooled me because it wasn't creamy or cheesy. It felt clunky like cheap boxed mac. BBQ joints shouldn't only focus on their meat, but also pride themselves of their side dishes, especially classic BBQ sides like Mac. My son, like many kids, loves mac and my son couldn't sit passed two spoon fulls. Last but not least, the chicken rings were also not so good. I got them for my son because he loves his chicken nuggets but he also couldn't sit passed 2 pieces. I'm pretty sure they were the frozen kind like you find at Aldi. They almost didn't taste fried but more like microwaved. If they were fried they didn't taste the part because the meat content was mushy and tasteless. Nuggets should be meaty and crispy on the outside.

So here's the break down, I haven't tasted everything on the menu but the Brisket was good and the sauce was nice and tangy. It helped me look pass the dryness. The toast was a bit chewy but tolerable. The mash was great but everything else was just ok. I'm very picky with coleslaw(as everyone should because coleslaw can go bad very easily), and with the sides being 'meh,' I'm too scared to try (kudos to The Feed for having the best coleslaw in town. It taste more like a cool cabbage salad). Moms has great potential. It has real good meat and sauce but they need to rework the sides. I recommend keeping it as fresh as possible. Dump out anything that is frozen or boxed and try making everything from scratch. Freshness will not only please customers but also draw in more BBQ enthusiasts like myself. Freshness always wins. Overall this place is still a decent alternative. It's cheap and the portions are big. I'll still give it another try since I heard their ribs are good. This time I'll dodge the sides and stick to fries.

This place is fantastic and I'm not just saying that because their mashed potatoes taste just like my mom's. Well...that definitely does have something to do with it!

First time I came here was because I was hungry and stuck in traffic on Diversey. I figured getting some bbq was way better than sitting in my car and I don't think I've ever been so right before.

I had the wet brisket sammich on texas toast with a side of mashed potatoes.  Everything was cooked to perfection. I couldn't believe there wasn't a line out the door for this brisket, so moist and flavorful. In fact I  loved it so much that I took my husband there for dinner that night just to show him how awesome it was. He had a slab of ribs that were literally falling off the bone. Hog heaven.

These people do texas bbq and they do it right.

Update: Prices have risen which is odd but quality is still here

First off, they do accept credit cards.  Ok I am a big fan of fat Willys on western, mostly due to it's in my back yard, nothing against willys, but it's turned into a hipster hangout and everything is too pricey to justify a lunch.

I work in the brickyard and I just found  out about this place, it's close to my work and it's surprisingly great.  I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was just awesome, the bread was delicious and only cut on one side so the meat wasn't everywhere.  The curly fries are good but could use some subsitutions and the drink selection could be a little more varied, not everybody drinks soda.  All in all, this place was a great find in an odd neighborhood dominated by Mexican and polish establishments, it's good to have some amercana there.

The atmosphere was very laid back and it was very clean and colorful, plus theres tvs in the corners and no they weren't all playing sports which I appreciate.

The wait was short, real short, like 5 minutes. Which is great for BBQ.  The guy behind the counter was very friendly and all his motives were for the community and that's what this city needs, businesses that are willing to make a neighborhood better by action.

I really can't say more great things about this place, try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Mom was actually in the kitchen! The food was great, it was really nice to stop at a fast food looking place and get slow cooked food at the price of greasy fast food!! Nice surprise, it might have taken a bit more time then the typical but so worth it!

Atmosphere was perfect it so nice to see a small family business that cares about its customer. Whatever kinks they might have I am sure they will work them out. They were completely open to our opinon! We will be back and will be bringing more of our family and friends.

    All the best to Mom's!!

p.s. they had at least choice of 3 homemade sauces and you can get your wings grilled!
