I'll be honest, if I was going to base this review off of food and atmosphere alone, it would be five stars. I have watched many football games and Big East Tournament games here with my brother, including the UConn - Syracuse 6 OT thriller. It's a great place to watch a game.
The wings are where it's at though. I love hot wings, and make a point of trying them wherever I go out to eat, and these are by far the best I've ever had. The cheese fries are awesome, along with the nachos and the bread pudding.
The only problem I've ever had is with service while sitting at the rail. Came in one evening while the Big East tourny was on to grab a bite and every TV had soccer on. Found it odd and asked if we could get one TV for the games to which a bartender replied that he was watching soccer. We left on the spot and went to Fox and Hound. I've only had this kind of issue occur the one time but it wasn't pleasant.
Would have been 5 stars if not so inconsistent.
I originally went here a couple of years ago while in town with some friends. Â All of the amazing reviews for their wings is what drew us in. Â Having eaten many wings all over the US (including the original Anchor Bar in Buffalo), that first experience here placed them high atop the list.
Why were they so good? Perfectly cooked, hot and crispy, and perfect combination of flavor and heat. Â What made them unique that they were almost dry but not lacking in sauce, plus they are cooked and served whole. Â I wasn't quite sure how they did it but I knew I'd be back.
When I returned the 2nd time I was disappointed to find most of my wings barely cooked and swimming in sauce. Â I thought ok, maybe this was a fluke. Â 3rd visit resulted in the same consistency as the first. Â Finally, fast forward to last weekend, and my 4th visit (from 2.5 hours away I might add) and you can imagine my disappointment when the soggy mess returned. Â
Now, the pub itself has a great atmosphere, great happy hour, and the wait staff has always done an excellent job. Â A little more attention needs to go into the kitchen, especially on the items they're known for.
Sometimes I wake up in the morning and all I look forward to is the excellent service provided at Moriarty's. No but really everyone here is lovely, specials are good, food is yummy. I've never ever had a negative experience with a server or bartender, they're all accommodating even when I'm creepy which is often.
To recap their all stars... Bartenders- Josephine is the perfect amount of sarcastic, helpful, and beautiful. Harry is the silliest, most jovial goose. Tim has hair that is full of secrets and beer recommendations. Their servers Laura, Mary, Sammi, and Tom are always smiling. The only thing that could make this place better would be an adult water slide.
Stopped by my fav Pub after a long day in NY meeting with my literary agent. Â Coulda eaten in NY, but wanted to aviod the rush crowd there. Â
Anyway-  Have eaten here many times & am always impressed with the great service, & terrific food.-(This time another great server  "Sammi".)
Last 2 times I wanted something light, not fatty, so I tried their "vegetable wrap".
This has been to me a pleasant surprise ! Â Light, healthy & very tasty, a mix of grilled vegetables (Tomato, zucchini, peppers & more) grilled nicely in a tasty wrap, with a side of chips.- Â
It's a filling dish, yet healthy & good for any people watching their fat intake or greasy stuff ! -
Sammi was a terrific server.  She was so pleasant & prompt with her service, smiling always, & as quick to bring me my "extra pickles"-btw, if you are not watching your calories & are a chocolate lover, for dessert try their  "Dark side of the moon"  a sinfully delicious , delectable double chocolate, creamy chocolate cake-!  Wow, a chocolate lover;s delight
I've had their bugers in the past & their tasty "Shepard's Pie". Â Â You wil never have any complaint about their food. Â Not a beer drinker, but when I'm there with my buddy, he loves their great variety of beers.
I highly recommend this place, before or after a show, or if you're just in Center City. Â Beats out any of the Pubs both in quality of food, & great service. Â Sammi, Laura, two great servers & met manager Tommy, who was very nice.
You can not go wrong here-! Â Great food & service. Â Best Pub in town-! Â Highly recommend it--!
Just... no. We were given one draft list for a group of more than 10 people, we had to beg to get water refilled (and even then, only a few people who asked actually got it), and, when they ran out of one of the beers we had ordered, they didn't say anything to us until we asked where the rest of our drinks were. Absolute. Crap.
Review Source:I have been wanting to write a review for a while. Â This place is, as the stars note, as good as it gets. Â What is? Â You ask. Â Well, quite simply, the wings. Â The wings in this joint are simply the best that have ever been made. Â Ever. Â In the history of ever. Â Now, combine that with cheese fries and your in heaven.
Review Source:You've got your beer. Your chicken wings. TV's playing the games you want to see. Lively and warm vibes with great company. Oldies music playing. And waitresses are so amazing/friendly! I'm so in loveee. I wish this place was out here in California! If you love your beer and some delicious chicken wings, you've got to come here when in Philly! The wings are seriously huge and have the perfect amount of flavor to them. Eat while it's still hot!
Yum, yum, yum.
This was my home away from home when I lived a few blocks away. Their Irish potato soup rocks and their burger's are huge. My favorite thing is that they have woodchuck on tap. Â If you can find the room, Â their apple crisp is yummy (and meant for sharing). The service can be a little slow, but that never put a damper on my good time.
Review Source:I love that the happy hour is 7 days a week. Three dollars for a Guinness? Yes Please! I love that they fry the whole wing without a batter so the skin is nice and crispy. It's a little strong the way the hot sauce and vinegar goes, but sometimes I like that. Other foods we've tried:
-Fish and Chips: great, fresh fish, pile of fries, how can that go wrong?
-Mozzarella sticks: these were not impressive, though I can't say anything bad about them either
-"Wings'N'Things": meh, strictly wings from now on, I think this only happened because we were being indecisive, but really, loaded potato skins? who eats that?
I had a review posted up here for about 48-hours that detailed a horrible experience regarding a single employee, but I received a letter from the owner, John, in regards to my incident with an apology enclosed. I hope to go in and meet John sometime soon because his apology was straight to the point and extremely generous!
I've been in the hospitality industry for the last six years, and I've been going here for the good part of two years. It's a really comfortable atmosphere, (with the exception of one time) I always enjoy myself! In my opinion, you can use this place as a date spot, hang out or whatever you want it to be. They have some employees that have been working there for a long time, and if you consider the turnover in the restaurant business, it must be a nice place to work! I'm looking at you; Joe, Scott, Laura, Tim (it may be Tom, sorry bud)... to name a few. They really bring the experience together because sometimes the place is jam packed. I never have to wait for a drink longer than 2 minutes.
The food on the menu is a bit of a random collection but I have not ordered a single dish that I haven't enjoyed. It ranges from your basic sandwiches and wraps to more involved dishes like Sheppard's Pie. The fact that the kitchen is open late has always made it a staple for those in the industry to grab an appetizer and unwind after a shift. I almost forgot! THE WINGS ARE FAMOUS and for good reason, please just get them. They're full wings with homemade hot sauce (not too hot) and bleu cheese with a heap of celery and carrot sticks. I once had a vegan who recently started eating meat sob because "This is what I've been missing?!?!?" The beer selection is decent with seasonal and standard usuals. You will find a beer to please most drinkers. They serve daily specials @ $3, where beers like Victory Golden Monkey are featured.
Final note: Laura, shameless glorification of how nice and attentive her service is on a consistent basis! :)
I have been going to Moriarty's for years and have always had a good experience. I have never been treated as poorly as I was last evening. Rob, the bartender, does not deserve to be a bartender anywhere in the city, nor should the health department or liquor control board allow this establishment to remain open. First of all, there was an extreme amount of obviously underaged and intoxicated individuals flooding the 2nd floor bar. This is a regular occurrence at this bar, as they frequently do not card. In addition, check the expiration date of the bottles of beer that you purchase. Bottles of Bud Light were on special last evening so we purchased them. We were in a large group of approximately 12 people and the majority were drinking these beers. When we confronted the bartender we were told we needed to talk to the manager who proceeded to tell us we were "cut off" from the Bud Lights but they were going to continue serving them to other customers and "what did we expect for a $3 beer" (I, myself, would still expect beer that isn't expired regardless of the price - but hey, maybe that's just me?!). Tom, who identified himself as the floor manager, refused to refund the cost of the beer as we only noticed the expired date after a few rounds. He also told me the drink was pasteurized so there's "no way we could get sick". However, milk is also pasteurized but you wouldn't ever catch me drinking milk 2 months past its expiration date. Food and beverages have expiration dates for a reason.
Finally, Rob, the bartender, told my friend to "get the f*** over herself about Bud Light" for complaining that the beer was expired. When a different friend confronted him about his nasty words, he POURED OUT HER BEER THAT SHE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR AND REFUSED TO REFUND HER MONEY OR GIVE HER THE BEER.
As a loyal patron for many years, I will never return to this dump of a "pub" (i.e. dirty underaged karaoke bar that may or may not serve you the expired beer that you have already paid for).
Where do I begin?? I'd like to first apologize to Daniel, Frank, Stephanie, Marie, David, Neha, Natalie and Maggie who all had similar experiences with the HORRIBLE Moriarty's manager. I'm sorry that you wasted one night of your life how I did, at the dump that is Moriarty's Irish Pub.
Upon entering Moriarty's last night, it seemed like a very normal night there, I parted through the sea of stumbling 18 year olds that Moriarty's uses as their second floor decor and went to the bar with a group of 12-15 friends. We asked what their specials were to find out that Rob, the rudest bartender had a secret special for Saturday night......EXPIRED Bud Lights!!! Seeing as how last night was April 20th and the beer literally had an expiration date in February we found this concerning.
When my friend went to the bar to let him know that he was serving the entire room of mostly underage drinkers beer that has been expired for 2 months, he told her to get the f*** over herself and that it was just a bud light.
My group of friends thought his behavior was appalling and decided not to tip him for the way that he talked to her. I went up to the bar and got a blue moon and asked to close my tab for the night. After I paid for the blue moon I wrote a 0 in for tip and signed the receipt. When he saw this he grabbed my beer and dumped it down the drain and kicked me out!
This was the most ridiculous service ever especially coming from someone who insulted my friend for drinking $3.50 beer but couldn't live without my $3.50 tip. The manager, Tom, defended him in both scenarios as this must be his star employee. He wouldn't even refund me for the beer that I had just paid for that was dumped down the drain.
I will NEVER go back.
Moriarty's is better than you think. The facade gives you the idea that it's some kitschy Irish-themed pub run by a group of frat bros that got the idea while backpacking through the Isle getting drunk during during "study" abroad. But it's not. It's a fun, popular, and loud bar with decent food and a killer happy hour special.
I ordered the Chipotle Chicken sandwich, which was a good, spicy selection. Otherwise, the items on the menu were very standard crowd-pleasers, from salads to Reubens to Fish N' Chips. I would certainly go back for the happy hour, which features a wide selection of drafts priced at $3. Although the place can become very busy, the wait staff is well-trained and friendly and they avoid the pitfall of hiring too few employees. I'm sure the overhead is large, but on the average night, it's needed.
When it's all said and done, I'm glad Moriarty's graces the Center City streets. It offers a fun atmosphere for anyone from a group of young professionals going out for happy hour to a family grabbing a pre-theatre meal. While it won't change the way you view the world, it is a good option with some reasonable prices, especially during that 5-7 happy hour window.
There is a place where the Irish celebrate and the green runs through your blood no matter what your background is. Whether it's St. Patrick's Day or just a regular weeknight or weekend, the people at Moriarity's have the Philadelphia charm. Their wings are a common order among patrons, but on a cold day I'll gladly go for a bowl of warm Irish potato soup with bangers and mash.
The beer selection is pretty good and while pitchers aren't an option, there is plenty to talk about since the pub is decoratated with local playbill memories and water jugs that the owner collected. The chandeliers aren't the swanky kind, but instead a good quality Tiffany style that still make them classy. I can't help it, I love the style the pub has.
Even the standard fried food is pretty tasty. A classic cheeseburger with lettuce, onion and tomato is served on a fresh bun and looks like it came right from a tv ad. Biting into the burger didn't let me down either because it tasted just exactly the way I imagined it would be. French fries are part of the order and grey poupon is automatically served when the order arrives at your table. Along with an order of onion rings, a few shots of Irish whiskey and well, that's what I can safely say is pretty damn tasty.
Perfect place to stop in for a beverage while sightseeing downtown. Â Cozy local ambiance with classic dark wood trim and dim lighting. Â The ideal Irish Pub. Â Didn't have time for food, but the plates looked delicious! Â Highly recommended if you're in the area looking for a refreshing beverage.
Review Source:The only food I've ever had during my 2-3 visits to Moriarity's is the pita + hummus. Â It's good - it's pita and hummus. Â Hard to get it wrong.
I've sat at the bar each time I've visited, typically during happy hour. Â The service each time has been okay - not particularly fast or friendly, but also not offensively slow or rude. Â Just okay.
Decent place for a beer.
Wow, I'm in shock. I am an events planner (I plan over 150 events a year), and I wanted to book an event at Moriatry's for 100 people in their upstairs space. I called and was transferred to Richard Konstantine. He was very brisk and unaccommodating throughout the phone call, and when I finished telling him the details of the event he said "no, we'll pass" and hung up on me.
I've talked to dozens of bar managers in the city and this is the only time that has ever happened to me. I never liked the place, but now I will never go back. If you're planning a party, I would not recommend trying to plan it here!
You thinking of chicken wings? Come to Moriarty's! I think it has the best combo: wings and Guinness on draft. YUMM. The wings unfortunately do not come in different spice intensities, but the bar makes up for it with its wing portions. The ordering is good for two people! Don't be alarmed, the wings are all connected: think wing-to-drumstick-to-that small flap wing at end. I see this as a great way to really grasp my food while chugging my Guinness in my other hand.
Wing eating tip: My hubby brought me here as one of our first dates....yes you will get messy. I was horrified he was going to judge me. But then you realize everyone is messy and buffalo sauced up. So just enjoy your wings and ask the waiter for extra moist toilettes!
Great Happy Hour spot for after work with a decent beer list that is half off during this time! Dark lighting and tons and  tons of wall decorations. Such a fun place to sit with friends and relax after a long day! In particular I loved coming here during the Holiday's when they have all of their X-mas decorations up. Very charming.
Good for grabbing a quick bite or for bar food nibbles. Try the wings!
Good wings, Â good happy hour specials on beers, friendly staff, and outdoor seating for when its nice out. I do think its a bit odd that their menu has so many Mexican options on it, seeing how this is an Irish pub, but the food is actually pretty good.
I've also been to a few events here in the upper floors, its kind of surprising how much space there is in this building. Â Its worth considering if you are trying to do a simple get together with a large number of people.
Moriarty's is probably one of the first places I have been to in the city, either this or Oscars, cant recall.
Apart from the huge beer selection, I just really enjoy the ambience and the decor of this place. Almost makes me forget I have a shitty job across the street if i can manage to keep my eyes off Walnut Street. I have been there at 2am and 2pm, and always had a good time. The bartenders are super accommodating, knows their stuff and OH! do get the wings, they are soooooo gooooood.
Again, I couldn't be happier about both their location and crowd. I always feel comfortable and welcome.
Friday happy hour, $3 drafts. I did get some onion rings too, but haven't tried anything else on the menu. It's busy, but they're quick, and the wait-staff are consistently checking on you. We were able to get our rounds of drinks/food pretty quickly.
Just caution, you can't sit outside with your drafts. You're limited to bottles.
I'll be going here again, probably for happy hour.
They have the best wings in town...
happy hour and beer list is a-ok...
...and those are the highlights.
Every time I come here--usually within 30 seconds of placing my order--I always wish I'd just downed a beer at the bar and got my wings to go. Â Why? Â Because the service is usually...bizarre. Â It has ranged from a waitress with the impressive ability to take your drink order and not come back to take your table for 30+ minutes (got stuck with her a couple times)...to the waitress who gave my girlfriend the evil eye when she ordered a lemonade instead of a beer...to the really friendly server who admittedly took our order super promptly, but then sat down with us to "chat" about movies for 15 minutes before actually placing said order.
I've probably been here 50+ times over the years and can count the number of times I've had normal service on two hands.
What's a girl to do when she gets to work and finds out that it's somebody's last day and everyone is scrambling to throw together a party? Â Order a bunch of wings from Moriarty's. Â I called a few minutes before they opened and ordered 6 orders of wings to be picked up at 12:30. Â Since not everyone can eat super spicy foods, we got half of the wings with the buffalo sauce and half of the wings with the buffalo sauce on the side, so everyone can enjoy them. Â
I walked into Moriarty's at 12:30 on the dot and the wings were already waiting for me. Â This worried me at first, thinking that maybe they had been sitting there for a while, but the second I picked up a bag and could feel the intense heat from inside, I knew that they had just been placed there. Â
The wings were a hit at the party, everyone certainly loved them and loved the fact that not all of them were covered in sauce. Â I thought they were very good wings, but not worth the price (because I didn't order a catering platter of wings and instead ordered a few orders of the wings off the menu, I had to pay the menu price, which got to be pretty pricey). Â Also, nobody eats the wing tips and they freak me out. Â I really wish they would cut them off.
As promise, i went back to Moriarty this past weekend to lush out to another spectacular wing feast. after eating these wings for a second time, I am still not impressive with the quality. the size of these wings are pretty big, but the quality simply does not hold up to Bonnie. This might be my brooklyn bias typing, but the fact these wings only comes in one level of spiciness is really a downer. I also dont think these wings are as juicy or flavorful as bonnie's. with that being said, these are good size wings with a kick to them.
Stay tune for a third update, since i am pretty sure i will be back to this place with ting s
HEY EVERYBODY OH MY GOSH GET THE WINGS THEY'RE REALLY GREAT AND REALLY HUGE BECAUSE THE DRUMSTICKS ARE STILL ATTACHED AND THEY'RE CRISPY AND JUST NOM-WORTHY.
(no but really they are)
...and ask for some extra buffalo hot sauce on the side, because it IS really super spicy and actually that delicious to where you'll probably want to drink it anyhow.
OH YEAH AND THE BEER SELECTION IS ENORMOUS. And the bartenders are experts at Guinness pouring: I had the pleasure of drinking the most perfectly poured Poorman's Black Velvet (Guinness + Cider) I've ever consumed. 2/3 crisp golden cider topped with 1/3 Guinness and the perfect amount of froth...
LET ME REPEAT:
BEER AND WINGS
BEER AND WINGS
BEER AND WINGS
(oh...whoops, i guess it really has been said and done.)
