We just had a delicious and wonderful birthday dinner at Morton's. The bone-in ribeye was cooked to perfect order, tender and savory.  Ordered scalloped, cheesy potatoes augratin, which were cheesalicious.  The spinach and mushroom sauté is a new favorite and the oysters at the beginning were a great beginning.  Service was fantastic and the waiter even took our picture and gave us a souvenir photo with nice birthday balloons and greeting drawn on the inside of the photo holder.  Another memorable evening at one of our favorite places in Chicago.  Love Morton's!
Review Source:Yeah the steaks are good, its the customer service that will have me coming back to this location. Â Hands down some of the best maitre d's in the business. Â If you are a repeat customer they will remember you every time and the wait staff makes sure to check your name before they come to the table and address you by your first name. Â
First class operation all the way will have me coming back to this location.
The atmosphere was so nice. Â Much cozier and warmer than I had expected. Â Our waiter could not have been nicer. Â He was informative, attentive, and kind.
I started with the onion soup which was good. Â It was very onion-y, and flavorful. Â Good temperature too. Â For the main course, I had the petit filet mignon. Â I had ordered it medium plus, and the quality of meat was very good, although it was more like medium rare. Â I was so full by the time I hit the middle though, so it was a good excuse to save any room I had left for dessert. Â Dessert was great. Â I had the creme brulee, but also tried the chocolate mousse and the key lime pie. Â All three were very good.
I look forward to returning!
I dined at Morton's last night. Â I have been there a couple of times in the past year. Â The food is pretty good and the cheesecake is excellent. Â However, the waiters are horrible. This is what happened last night and it is unacceptable, unbelievable but true!
#1. My salad had a huge bulk of lettuce heart in it. Don't folks usually discard or reduce the size of that???
#2. They never refilled my water glass. It was completely empty.
#3. I requested my filet mignon to be butterfly and medium. Instead it was full cut and rare.
#4. They did not offer me coffee. When I told them, and the girl brought it to me, I was not about to drink it. That girl did not know what I wanted. Decaff or regular? I left it on the table.
#5. While the waiter was validating parking, some in my party asked for her validation. Even though the waiter was standing next to her, he scolded her and stated for her to wait until he got to her table. Â I guess it would have been too complicated for him to have placed the sticker on her card at that time. Â How rude!
When dining there last year, the waiters were so unfair with pouring wine. Â No standard, no consistency. Â Someone in my party complained. Â Hence, last night, waiters used decanters for pouring wine. Â It is sad that waiters are so unprofessional.
Good food, lousy waiters.
The reviews for this place were great. And the filet that I had was amazing. I just couldn't get over the prices. The room was really loud and while the reviews I read said this place was dressy attire, there were several people in sweat shirts and jeans. Great steak, but that is about it.
Review Source:Definitely one of the better steakhouses I've had in Chicago. Â Morton's may be a chain, but they definitely know how to make a great steak.
I ordered the cajun ribeye while my husband had the filet mignon. Â I like my steaks medium rare, but since I'm pregnant I decided to go with medium while my husband ordered his medium rare. Â The server accidentally switched our requests and I came out with a medium rare ribeye and my husband had a medium filet mignon. Â We ended up just sharing our steaks instead of sending it back because both of us were too hungry. Â They were both delicious despite the mix-up and were well seasoned.
My husband also had scallops which he said were fresh and seared perfectly and we shared a side of creamed corn. Â I could probably eat that corn everyday lol. Â For dessert, we had the chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla which I didn't care for because I don't like chocolate, but my husband devoured completely.
But in all honesty, my favorite part of the meal was the WARM, delicious, freshly baked onion bread they serve in the beginning. OMG. BEST BREAD I've EVER had at a steakhouse!
I have been to a number of Chicago steakhouses but had never been to Morton's. Â I wish I could still say the same thing. After everything I had heard, I was excited to try it out. I left wondering why my experience was so different from that of other reviewers.
The bread that was served before the meal was the best part and, quite possibly, could be the best bread I have ever had. I should have stopped there.
I ordered the five onion soup which was a disappointment. It wasn't bad, however, it wasn't very good either. At $12 for a small crock of onion soup I was expecting more.
I almost always order a filet when I am at a steakhouse. At Morton's I did the same and, unfortunately, was not impressed. The steak was not properly cooked and didn't seem to be a great cut of beef. If I had spent $20 on the steak I wouldn't complain but for $50 I expected a lot more.
I don't know how you don't do a good job with asparagus. I am not a very good cook but even I do a decent job with asparagus. The steamed asparagus (e recommendation from my waiter) was almost indelible. I didn't think that asparagus could be so bad.
For desert I had a piece of the chocolate cake. This was a huge and exquisite piece of cake. It was the one item that I ordered that was worth the cost.
The service was fair at best. Again, not what I would expect from a restaurant in this price bracket. The bussing was very good, however, I would rate my waiter as less than average.
Each steakhouse has a different ambiance. Â I am preferential to rich wood paneling and thought the decor at Morton's was horrendous. If the meal had been good I certainly wouldn't have been bothered by this, however, it is another reason why I wouldn't eat here again.
If you are thinking about getting a good steak in Chicago, do yourself a favor and go to Ruth's Chris or somewhere else. Simply put, this experience was certainly not anywhere near its cost.
Cold and windy was the night, and the two whose blood has thinned from years of living in warmer climes were happy to cross their threshold. Too tired from a long day of travel and work, we jumped into big martinis, mini cheeseburgers and truffle fries. Since it was close to closing, our server was gracious and happy to discuss the variances between NOLA and Chicago. Ending our time with a generous pour of single-malt scotch, we were happy our expectations were met - delicious beef, quality booze and great service.
Review Source:I'm sure Morton's does better than on the night we went there - they took over a half hour to seat us, inspite of our Opentable reservation - there was a big convention in town apparently, the place indeed was mobbed. The slow to service theme continued all through our meal, and we enjoyed a really leisurely 3 hour dinner!
Strangely enough, of the three of us I was the only one to order steak - apparently my order - a medium rare NY strip loin - was the reason the kitchen took more than 45 min to serve us - & it should not have taken even 20 minutes to cook. It was perfectly done & I had no reason to complain, (I did not pick up the tab!) & the steak, the wine, the creme brulee, and our waiter's good attitude & helpful demeanor made up for what could have been a less than satisfactory dining experience.
Filet mignon and a huge baked potato. Â What could be better? Â I really missed Chicago steaks and Morton's delivered. Â The service was timely, but a bit pushy to turn the table. Â My party of five was seated at a table for four, but we made it work. Â I am always able to accommodate for the deliciousness.
Review Source:We went out to eat last Saturday night and originally wanted to try Grass Fed in Bucktown. We took a cab over there only to discover the restaurant was closed for a private party :( I was beyond dissapointed because I really wanted to try it. Anyhow, I was still in the mood for steak and wanted to go somewhere we hadn't already been to so we decided to head back downtown and pick a place, and Morton's was it.
The restaurant has your typical nice steakhouse atmosphere. It actually reminds me a lot of Sullivan's (which BTW is better) on the inside. Our server was extremely nice and didn't rush us at all even though we were there about a half an hour prior to closing.
Onto dinner. We ordered the escargot to start which was delicious, but nothing you can't get elsewhere. I had a small filet and my husband had surf/turf - filet, scallops, and shrimp. The scallops were pretty good, but the shrimp was a little overcooked and dry. The steaks were cooked properly and flavorful, but were very different from any other steakhouse I've tried. Maybe they broil them ?? When I think of steak, I think of a nice, THICK hunk of meat with a beautiful char on the outside and a nice warm, red center ..... Mmmmmmm now I'm hungry lol. The filet here was very tender, but it was thin and had no char on the outside, and just tasted a little different. We also had mashed potatoes for a side and they were standard, nothing to write home about.
Bottom line - if you want to go out for a nice steak dinner go to Mastro's (no really please go here it's AMAZING), Chicago Cut, Ruth's Chris, or even Sullivan's or Flemings.
I am a STEAK GIRL and I am very hard to impress on the frontier of a big hunk of meat (steak), but this place HIT THE JACKPOT! I'm a frequent traveler, so I'm often stuck reading the magazines in the backs of the planes seats just to get through the initial taxing before takeoff. It was here that I first discovered this gem, but never really gave it thought to actually "try" being that we don't have 1 in the bay area or greater Alabama metropolitan area, which are my 2 main hubs!
Anyhoo, I was meeting with friends in Chicago after a long week of legal conferences, and we needed a bite. I hadn't seen my friend in MANY years, as I am a nomad, lol. Since then, however, she has had many children and those lil yappers were just as starved as the big yappers! Our initial choice was Grand Lux, which is a Cheesecake Factory, essentially. They were packed to THE MAX with a 2 hour wait, and this wasn't happening... At all with hungry hippos! (It's Taste of Chicago & P4Fk whatever this weekend) We needed food, so I called Morton's and told them our dilemma and they were ABSOLUTELY accommodating! I was nervous to go into a steakhouse with a group of children, but it worked!!
The Food: OMGEEE this was a pristine experience. I had the Cajun Rib-eye Medium and it was cooked too PERFECTION! No char, perfectly seasoned, and perfectly cooked! I was melt-in-your mouth tender! A magnificent cut of meat!
Sides- we shared a BROOD of them so here goes:
Creamed Spinach- my least favorite, a bit watery, but it's spinach.
Creamed Corn- This wasn't as creamy as it was watered down as well. There were big chunks of meat in it, and it was ok. I left it mostly for the children.
Mashed Potatoes- Basic, Creamy, Yummy...
Onion MacNcheese- Delectable! By far my favorite side of the night!!! It was perfectly baked with a crunchy topping! MMh MMh Goody!
Overall Morton's was a great experience and ÃœBER accommodating! It was so good that I'll be going back before I leave Chicago to enjoy a quiet date with my iPad! Â Definitely worth the $668.00 W/tax & tip bill!
Steak: I ordered a medium cooked steak, and ended up with one that is all over-fried on the surface. The whole steak just tasted bitter as pill.
Salad: Morton's salad, topped with a super creamy dressing and kipper. That's weird taste, at least to me. I want the salad to side the main dish (maybe I am wrong for this idea), but ended up even more oily. Â
Service: plain good. As most of the American foods, you are gonna be in big trouble when you are in a hurry or a hungry.
I will not try it out again....
the food and service we received does not equals to price that we paid for....co - worker of mine ordered a "medium rare" steak...he received half side medium, half side rare....I guess that's why they define as Medium rare. Â
Also, waiter that waited our table....we all came to a conclusion that night....he must be on drug....or high from something...boy...the first order he took from our table of 10, he screwed it up big time....also, is there a thing called "Fresh ICE TEA" that took 20 minutes to get to our table? Â wow...one of the first....
I had better experience at other locations than this one...need improvement.
Well, was this ever a good experience! We were celebrating a special day, so I made the reservations on Open Table, and noted that we were celebrating. When we arrived, they sat us quickly, and provided us with special celebration menus that we could keep.
First, the bread was hot and the butter was soft and spreadable.
Then, the bacon wrapped scallops were spectacularly good. The scallops were large and as tender as butter. No knife was needed to cut these, just the tines of the fork gently split each scallop into manageable bites.
The Caesar salad was very good. I wouldn't say it was the best Caesar ever, but it was excellent. And, since Hubby and I had decided to split the salad and the scallop appetizer, our server brought the salad on two plates for us.
We all ordered the filet mignon in varying sizes and degrees of cooking depending on our tastes. Hubby and I are medium rare people. The steak was very good. It need no additional sauces or accompaniments. Some at our table did get theirs with bleu cheese sauce and such, but ours did not need that at all. They only complaint I might make is that my hubby had a piece of gristle in his which is usually rare in a good filet.
The horseradish mashed potatoes were good, but I did not love them. Hubby, however, did like them very much.
My creme brulee, though, was superb! Served in a very shallow dish so that every single creamy bite had crisp, burnt sugar to go with it. Perfection!
Hubby had the key lime pie, which was tart and creamy, with a tasty graham crust.
Finally, the service was impeccable. Our server, Megan, was knowledgeable and attentive without ever being intrusive.
I've been to Morton's in several cities over the years and they have all been fabulous but none have come close to this place.
For myself, I love, love, love their wedge salad, steamed asparagus and the filet. Over the years i have taken many groups of people and have never, ever had anyone get anything served to them that wasn't done to perfection. The food/menu presentation is really cool, and seriously, the double Porterhouse? Who orders that...a family of 6 could get good eatin' on that one cut!
I can't comment on the desserts, as I have never had room left for them, but I'm sure that they are spectacular.
Yes, it is pricey, but it's MORTON'S!
Holy Flinstones sized pieces of meat, Batman! Â
We were in this past weekend for the first time. Â There are so many steak places in Chicago and since I rarely go out for steak, I have only been to a few. Â I'm SO GLAD we finally found our way to Morton's! Â
Our waiter (darn me for not getting his name) was charismatic, friendly and above all, incredibly competent. Â He made the experience even better. Â
The food! Â Oh the food! Â We didn't even have appetizers. Â We didn't even have dessert. Â But, woah, I'm still dreaming about that prime rib. Â Our waiter said it is approximately *28oz* of meat. Â Sweet Jesus. Â I was starving and I couldn't even get through 1/3 of that monster. Â We also had the creamed spinach. Â We had originally ordered 2 sides but our waiter suggested that since the cuts of meat were so large, we might only need one. Â So thankful, he was absolutely correct. Â My dude and I each requested pieces of prime rib from the middle (we like our meat bloody) and they were perfectly cooked. Â Perfectly. Â
I had a Ultimate MORT-ini (har har) and it was yum. Â I'm such a sucker for blue cheese stuffed olives, absolutely my weakness. Â
*NOTE*: Â They only do prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays and they very often run out by 7pm. Â When we ordered at around 6:45, our waiter rushed off to mark off pieces for us to hold them, that's how fierce the competition is over those heavenly slices of beef. Â He suggested that in the future, if we want prime rib to request it when we make our reservation so they'll hold us a piece, otherwise there is no guarantee.
GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY!
If this place were a woman, she'd have all my money! Â lol excellent service, food, and drinks. Enjoyed a good cut of meat, nice and tender! Â The cocktails were one of the best that I have had in a lonnnng while. will definitely do it again reservations are strongly recommended though cause it gets really crowded, especially weekends.
Morton's Steakhouse on Wacker Drive is the best place to celebrate your birthday. I made reservations for Saturday night to celebrate my husband's birthday. Upon arrival, he was greeted with Birthday Wishes and his menu had Happy Birthday written across the top. Later, during our meal, the waitress said she would like to take a picture (which we willingly did); our picture was framed with a nice note from Morton's staff wishing my husband a Happy Birthday - a nice memento for the evening.
The service was outstanding. Our table was assigned two waiters who were very attentive and great with recommending appetizers and entrees.
Great food! The portions are very generous and we took about half of our meal home.
The only thing I didn't like was the seating - the restaurant really squeezed you into the space and you are so close to other patrons.
We went here a couple of months ago. Â We made reservations and were ushered right into our very tiny table. Â Service was great as they show you EVERYTHING they have and then you decide. Â Food was okay, not so much flavor. Â
The only problem we had was that I got prime rib..cooked medium and my husband got NY strip cooked well. Â They swapped them. Â He got his cooked medium and mine was cooked well. Â That kind of stuff doesn't sit well with us when we are paying for a $50 steak. Â
They were accommodating but only offered a free round of drinks to make things better.
Well Chicago, this is the dinner to beat.
Great drinks, amazing food. Â The most red piece of meat I've ever eaten and did not care because it tasted so good. Â That is what steak should taste like. Â My husband & I both ordered the single filet mignon and shared garlic mashed potatoes. Â The mashed potatoes were amazing. Â Just enough garlic to not be overpowering and know that it is there. Â We ended our meal with a hot chocolate cake. Â Good size to share after your meal. Â Not too rich either, just perfect.
No complaints at all with this meal. Â How could there be? Â This is the stuff food dreams are made of!
YES! This is what a nice steakhouse should be. Great food. Great service.
Half of our party was over an hour late and it didn't even phase the staff. They were more than happy to hold our table. We waited for our party in the bar area. Fairly typical bar. Good drinks. Pretty good food/drink specials too.
Our server was on point. He presented the menu, nice touch. I also had a lot of food restrictions due to this stupid diet I'm on, and he was able to accommodate everything.
Had a fillet. AMAZING.
Brussels Sprouts with bacon and shallots. My first Brussels Sprouts experience and it was a good one.
Ginourmous Baked Potato loaded with bacon. Fantastic.
I only ate simple foods due to the diet but they were as delicious as could be. Didn't partake in dessert for the same reason but it looked terrific.
The setting is great too. Basically one big room full of happy people, amazing steak, and plentiful drinks. We had a blast and my tummy was thanking me for days.
For some reason this Morton's is better than the others. The food is the same - excellent (but pricey) - but atmosphere seems a little less boring.
My biggest gripe with morton's is that it is a long, slow, boring meal - 3 hours start to finish and most of that starting at a carcass on the plate.
We were in and out in less than 2 hours and worked through drinks, appetizers and entrees (no dessert) without the boredom I have experienced at other Morton's. Although, I must say, we had a large group that included clients so we ordered a lot of food and wine and had a private dining room.
Went to the other location a few years ago and had one of the best steaks I had ever had. Â Also had some great oysters there, and I HATE oysters. Â Wasn't really thinking much of it at the time...so fast forward a few years.
Came to this location the other day, and vaguely remembered something about getting a really damn good steak that other time. Â They crammed us into the absolutely crappiest table in the house. Â I figured they could only disappoint...but when the steak came it truly was the best steak I had ever had. Â It was like someone went in ahead of time and snipped every little bit of connective tissue. Â There was zero stringyness - I probably could've cut the steak with the edge of my fork. Â PERFECTLY cooked, perfectly seasoned. Â The flavor was simply amazing. Â
Sides and everything else are nothing special - almost a waste of time and a waste of stomach capacity. Â Just gimme that steak. Â
I'm scared to go back now since they can only go downhill from here. Â I just wanna remember this steak as it was.
Are your clothes fitting just the way you want them to? Do you make a concerted effort to practice portion control when dining out? Do you have normal blood pressure? If you answered yes to any of these questions then stay far, far away from Morton's! However, if you want to gain 20 lbs. in 2 hours, if you want drawn butter smeared all over your face post-dinner and if you want your blood pressure to shoot up 50 points, then by all means visit Morton's!
A friend and I popped in here to do a little damage on a busy Wednesday evening and I found it odd that there was a police officer posted up by the entrance to the dining room. After quizzing our waiter about the constant flashing lights and mild ruckus going on in the private dining room, I found out the Blackhawks organization was there worshipping the Stanley Cup, so it made sense why 5-0 was there.
We started off with cocktails-- I, a vodka gimlet  and he, a vodka and cranberry juice. After getting the steak and seafood presentation I was drooling and wanted everything on that platter. I had to remind myself that my eyes are bigger than my stomach, so we figured we'd split the 16 oz ribeye, an order of crab legs and the beefsteak tomato salad. I had a loaded baked potato all to myself.
Food nirvana! The salad with its blue cheese crumbles was just heavenly; the steak- sheer perfection; the crab legs--frickin' unbelievable and the gargantuan loaded baked potato was delicioso!
Our server was charming and accommodating and the decor while classy, was typical ---dark wood and dim lighting.
Chicago steakhouses are just wrong, wrong, wrong!
It has been awhile since I ate here, but the meal was memorably bad enough that I thought I'd give it my two cents. Â I was on a business trip to Chicago, and really looking forward to a great steak dinner, from what I had heard from others about Morton's. Â
The first thing I noticed is that if you're not lucky enought to get a booth, the restaurant's tables were packed so tight that you're sitting about a foot away from the stranger next to you, and waiters were having trouble walking around without stepping on toes. Â
I have to second Eric K's comments about the service. Â I am a pretty young person and not overly-sophisticated looking I suppose, and I got the feeling the whole time that we were getting slighted on the service because we were deemed unworthy of giving a good tip. Â It was a really long wait for everything, and no one ever came to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything. Â I think our waiter may have just been bad though, as other tables seemed to be getting good service all around us.
The biggest disappointment, however, was the food. Â I paid $40+ for a filet mignon, ordered medium rare, which came out overcooked and extremely fatty. Â And for dessert, there was some delicious-looking chocolate souflet (or something of the sort), and when I went to order it after the meal, our waiter said it would have to be ordered beforehand. Â I said I wish we had known, and he said that he had told us before the meal (which he hadn't). Â I said we would wait for it to be cooked, but he said that it was their policy that it couldn't be ordered after the meal and we would have to choose something else. Â
I can't remember leaving a meal at a nice restaurant as disappointed as I did at Morton's of Chicago. Â I'm sticking with Ruth's Chris next time.
The whole world is well aware that they make a great steak, but I continue to be impressed by their seafood. I attended a networking lunch in one of their private rooms upstairs, which is pretty much the perfect spot for anyone looking to host a corporate lunch/dinner.
We were given a few choices for our entree and I went with the grilled colossal shrimp and scallops. The presentation was beautiful (shrimp wrapped around the scallops) and it was beyond delish. I was proud of myself for ordering the healthiest entree, but the butter sauce that came with it was hard to resist. By the end of my meal I was even dipping my veggies in that butter...mmm. Â
All you steak lovers sure are missing out on some darn good seafood right here at Morton's!
I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a red meat-loving (in moderation) steakhouse kind-of-girl. Considering my European meets Midwestern roots, would you expect anything else?
But today, I craved seafood. I've been to Morton's enough times to know their steak inside and out. And, because I was attending a working luncheon, I thought lighter fare would probably be best. Okay, and I'm trying to squeeze into a new bikini for a March trip to Miami.
The bread they deliver to the table takes heroic-level willpower to resist. And... as much as I tried, my attempts were futile. The bread was worth every calorie and more! You can get a really great deal for lunch: 3 courses for $25. I started with the classic Caesar salad, and had the grilled colossal shrimp and scallops with veggies for my main. I couldn't stop daydreaming of summer the entire time I was eating my meal-- so good, and complete with the requisite grill marks. Lunch could have been somewhat healthy save for the beurre blanc sauce I kept brushing on my shrimp and scallops. And later, even my veggies!
As with all Morton's, the staff really takes service seriously but I especially always feel taken care of at this outpost. They're warm and friendly, always there when you need them and not hovering when you don't!
Dessert was a really rich chocolate mousse but luckily by this time I was too stuffed to really care. I'll now be recommending Morton's as an ideal restaurant for a business lunch, but a big, juicy steak for dinner will always be my first choice.
I usually only get to the Chicago steakhouses on business meals, since my friends aren't nearly the carnivore that I am. Â Morton's was my most recent stop, and I have to say it was one of the best. Â We came here for lunch, and ordered from the $25 lunch menu - your choice of soup/salad, entree, and cake or pie for dessert. Â I ordered the ribeye with mashed potatoes, a salad the the chocolate molten cake.
The ribeye was cooked to perfection. I order my meat well done (yes, i'm one of those people), and a good cook can cook a piece of meat throughout without stripping it of juices or flavor. Morton's succeeded on that front. Â Now, I am not a person who likes cake or chocolate for that matter, but that was some damn good cake! Â It was a ton of food for the price, but I managed to polish it all off.
I can't wait for my next business lunch to steer everyone back this way. Just a great dining experience.
I went to Morton's for a meeting, but I ended up taking my dinner to go. Â I ordered it as the meeting was ending, but it ended up coming out really quickly. Â So by the time I arrived home an hour and a half later, I was sure that my dinner was going to be cold and disgusting.
Yeah, it wasn't, it was the most amazing steak I've had since I can remember...and still warm! Â My single cut filet, which I ordered medium, was cooked to perfection. Â I savored every bite and since I was going out of town the next day, froze the other half for when I came home. Â I have never done that before. Â It was that good.
The mashed potatoes were peppery and delicious. Â I also like how they give you an entire stalk of broccoli when you order it. Â I missed out on the hollandaise, but I'm kind of glad because I would have missed out on the deliciousness.
The cheesecake for dessert was also very good. Â I will definitely jump at the chance to eat in next time. Â If it was that good an hour and a half old, I will probably fall off my chair when it's actually fresh.
Consistency. Consistency of great food and impeccable service is what I love about Morton's. No matter what location you go to- whether you walk in off the street, or have a reservation, Morton's shows what a fine restaurant should be.
We stopped into this location on a Wednesday night without a reservation. We were warmly greeted by the hostess who took our coats and got us seated right away. Our delightful server, Jack, was there within seconds, introducing himself and calling us by name.
While the "speech" that they have to give about all of their meats is a bit lengthy (I eat here alot so I usually know what I want before I even walk in) it is always fun to see what the server is going to point out as their favorites.
We ordered our favs- oysters and tuna tartar( chopped and served with avocado, my favorite presentation) as our first course. Both were great, my only wish for the tuna was that it would have come with crackers or something to enjoy it on. But no matter, it was delicious! And the warm onion bread that comes to each table? I could have eaten the whole thing myself!
We went with the bone in rib eye and the NY strip for our entrees. Both were perfectly prepared and came with our choice of sauces (I love Bearnaise sauce and no one makes it better than Mortons!) Our sides were simple- lyonaise potatoes and creamed spinach. Plenty to share and there were even leftovers as the portions are huge.
As for dessert- we wanted something "light" (yeah right!) so we ordered the chocolate mousse. This fluffy bit of decadence was the perfect accompaniment to our after dinner drinks.
The only misstep of the evening? I was drinking my martini and I bit into an olive and was surprised to find a pit in it! The manager immediately came over and even bought us our after dinner drinks to make up for the issue. Again- great service!
If you drive- there is valet parking or you can park in the garage immediately to the west of the location.
Friendly, impeccable service (thank you Jack, for making our night so enjoyable), great food all served in an ambiance that you can dress up for or just go as you are. Morton's, you continue to earn my respect with each and every visit.
I arranged for my company's holiday party at Morton's and it was the easiest planning experience that I've ever had. Â The event planning staff (Jessica in particular) were so wonderful to deal with. Â They made great suggestions and everyone loved the party. Â The staff that executed the event were polite, friendly, and everyone loved them. Â Not one complaint!!
I've also eaten lunch here a few times and always loved the food. Â
Mmm-mmmmm, Morton's!!!
I accepted my pal Lisa B's thoughtful let's-hang-out-and-chat invitation and attended yesterday's complimentary come-see-how-pretentious-we-can-make-your-wedding-Âbar-mitzvah-birthday  party event at Morton's.
Great company and food. The wine was even good, and I rarely drink wine. So three stars for historic Morton's quality.
I was struck and somewhat grossed out by the frills and pomp the room designers infused into their presentations. I thought to myself, "there is no way I would spend this kind of dough for an event like that even if I could afford it ten times over."
I must be growing up, I guess. Or, something's changing. My 50th birthday is fast approaching and after last night's Ostentation on Display at Morton's I had the answer: I want my birthday party in a neighborhood bar.
I had an awesome dinner experience at Morton's last night, AND I'm a vegetarian. Really. It wasn't stuffy like I thought it would be. Actually, the waiters were awesome, and the way they show the menu is rather unique (the lobster even has a live cameo). They offered to make me a special vegetarian plate, but between the chopped salad (no bacon, and YUM) and the mac and cheese (a new addition, creamy with a hint of spice, excellent) I didn't see a reason to order it. The bread they have is also really, really good. I kinda wish I could have my salad, mac and cheese, bread and martini again right now, despite it not even being noon.
I would normally  don't pay $13 for a drink, but when I do, I definitely expect that it tastes and it served like how it was last night. Perfect martini. They also have a really expansive wine list.
It's a place to go all out. If I am going to spend a lot of money on dinner, I want to it be like it was last night-- great food REALLY good service great drinks. Plus, if I hadnt ordered alcohol, my meal would not have been expensive at all.
In an effort to drown some of my work sorrow in booze and food I and some of the other managers from my office took our teams to Morton's this week for their "Power Hour" and "Bar Bites". Â We didn't actually order any entrees so none of my comments are on that part of the dining experience although I did look at the menu and my mouth was watering the entire time. Â Luckily it turned out that the Bar Bites were tasty enough that after digging in I was pretty satisfied. Â
We ordered the Filet Mignon Sandwiches which I didn't think were all that special; a little strip of meat on some toasted bread with an unidentified sauce. Â But the Blue Cheese Fries and the Onion Soup that I had were fantastic. Â We also had the Crab, Spinach, and Artichoke Dip which was pretty tasty as well. Â I didn't actually order any drinks but the martini's with blue cheese stuffed olives that some other people had looked great and no one had any complaints about the drink menu. Â
I'd say that I would head back for dinner sometime but after the service we got I'm a bit hesitant. Â Yeah sure we were sitting in the bar area but that's no excuse for neglecting tables. Â In fact, the bar doesn't have that many tables to begin with and there were 3, sometimes 4 people behind the bar so there's no reason why we had to wait over 45 minutes for our server to come back to our table. Â I had to ask for a refill on water a few times and after our food was brought out we never saw our server again until we tracked her down for our check. Â She wasn't at all friendly, never smiled, and frankly she kinda gave off that snobby vibe which I translated into a minimal tip. Â Too bad so sad for her because I'm usually pretty good about that. Â
Unfortunately I'm giving it a 3 because the service was just that bad. Â Otherwise the menu looked great, what we ate was good, and the Power Hour and Bar Bites are a really good deal.
So, I have a story to share about this Morton's - before my husband came along and when I first moved to Chicago and I was playing the dating game, this boy decided to take me to Morton's on a first date. Â The whole way here, he couldn't stop telling me how great their steaks are and how I'm going to enjoy my first Morton's experience.
I remember service being extra nice especially considering what happened. Â We had a nice appetizer of scallops wrapped in bacon and then, when it came time to order the entree, my date decided to order for us - he ordered a yummy steak for himself medium rare and then, for the back then, size 2 me, a salad.
I was fuming furious but I turned on a smile and when the steak came out, I pointed the steak at me and said that was mine and my date was a diet so he needed the salad. Â After that, we had all different servers coming to our table refilling our water glasses. Â I sat through the rest of the meal savoring my steak and pointedly asked him how his salad was. Â Needless to say, there was no second date, nor dessert, and I cabbed it home. Â But Morton's - that steak was deliciously revengefully good!
It was my husband's 30th birthday and we went to Morton's for dinner with another couple. I haven't been to their other location, but I wouldn't recommend this one. The atmosphere is really stuffy and this place is more for business meeting than for dinner with friends. There is absolutely no decor in this place and we felt like we had to act proper or we'd get kicked out.
I've been to Carmichael's, Gibson's, Shaw's, Joe's, etc. Morton's is my least favorite.
My husband ordered a fillet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered Salmon and felt sick the next day (all day). The sides aren't anything to gloat about and you get enough for 2 people.
Mmm...not bad! Their medium rare is perfectly medium rare - smooth, soft and juicy. I took a bite and immediately craved for some red wine. Though I normally don't enjoy eating beef, my next order here will definitely be a thick slab of steak to myself. This time around I decided to play safe and ordered chicken...It was nothing special so I had to steal from other plates.
There's a nice, lively bar at the front. Not so exceptional in terms of service (a bit slow), but friendly enough. Interesting how they automatically assumed that we were tourists. WHY?
Well I went here after work and it was pretty quiet but I was starving so I cared little about anything but a big bloody steak.
Funny though when I say the menu and the server had gone through what has to be considered a litany of steak meals I wen for the Double Lamb Chops which were cooked to perfection, and filled me to the brim!
The water-boys in here are on steroids it has to be said. My water glass whenever I took a sip was filled in seconds, and there must be some water-nazi watching over them.
This is in the main a very conferency restaurant right next to the Hard Rock Hotel, so expect lots of business folk, steaking it up and being loud.
Not quite my scene, but good food nonetheless. you just expect a lot more for $165 (inc tip) for 2 entrees and 2 glasses of wine!!
