I have only been here twice. The first time was for a band that was playing and the second time I actually had food. I went in here on a Sunday afternoon around 3:00. They seemed to be very short staffed and busy for a Sunday at that time, I believe I ordered a burger which was decent. I really felt bad for our server because he seemed like he was running around with his head chopped off. The bad part is, I don't recall seeing a manager or anyone else helping him. He just kept getting table after table. He did apologize to us and thanked us for being patient. I know what it's like to be In his shoes. Overall, the experience was decent. The atmosphere is good and not too loud.

the servers are nice. the non-desert portions are consistent.
all in all a tight little lunch/dinner/watering hole spot. Â

As a resident of Wheaton, Â I don't go to the downtown restaurants nearly as much as I would like. Â I had not been to Muldoon's in several years and now I know why.... The place was pretty clean and our server was friendly. Â However, it took 1/2 hour to get our food and when it came, Â the food was not hot. Â Add to that the food tasted just OK. Â Not bad but not all that good either. Â I guess I expected more....
Review Source:I actually really like Muldoon's, and it's not just because I'm a Wheatonite. I think it's a cool place where there's something for everyone. Music, Trivia, a good bar area, and if you want to sit somewhere quiet, the restaurant is big enough to accomodate.
They do some traditional Irish fare, but I like the diversity of the menu. There's something for everyone! It may be boring, but I like their burger!
One of the few real pubs in Wheaton. Beer selection is OK and the food is fairly typical bar food. Great location in Downtown Wheaton near train and many restaurants. I suspect if there were more real bars and pubs in Wheaton this would be more of a two star joint, but we'll take what we can get.
Review Source:Went here for lunch at noon on a Tuesday, sat at the bar. Bartender was busy for a few minutes, catching up with other people, including tables. Usually in my experience you sit at the bar for quick service, and the bartender isn't kept busy with tables.
Bartender and staff were occasionally occupied with sports chatter, including a period of several minutes when my glass was empty.
Had the Royale with Cheese burger, medium rare. Came out closer to rare, maybe should have ordered medium well. Patty was large, but otherwise unimpressive. The meat was OK, but not of top quality, and didn't appear to have much in the way of seasoning. The egg on the Royale was hot off the stove however, perfectly cooked, splattered yolk when I bit into it. The pretzel roll bun was pretty awesome.
Got a caesar "side" salad that came on a fullsize plate, and the fries, along with my burger. The fries were ok, maybe overly salty, some a bit soggy. Nothing to write home about, nothing to rave about.
Paper napkins should be readily available when you're dealing with runny yolked eggs and greasy burgers. They were not.
The bartender talks faster than I do, and that'ssayingsomething.
Will give these guys another try when it's not lunch on a weekday.
Came here while visiting friends and they bragged pretty intensely about the local pretzel bread, so we came to Muldoon's. Â I had the Royale with Cheese and our group ordered their cream cheese balls. Â Both were fantastic! Â
The service here was warm and very pleasant, but what place in Wheaton isn't warm and pleasant? Â Anyway, I would definitely come back to Muldoon's and order ANYTHING on the menu that came on pretzel bread!
Came here on a weekend night for a drink and a shared appetizer. Service was outstanding; I suspect our waiter was new, as he was overly attentive, but it certainly wasn't a negative thing. My husband and I each ordered a pint of beer, and we shared the Muldoon's sampler (mozarella sticks, steak bites, Buffalo wings, and potato skins). The cheese sticks were good (it's hard to screw those up), but the real winner were the steak bites. I tried to sneak a few extra while my husband wasn't looking, but without success. The other apps were standard pub food; delicious, greasy, loaded with calories. And that was just fine with us.
Review Source:Don't get the special Nachos. Â Dummy me thought, hey Irish Pub/Restaurant, let's order Nachos. Â Bad idea. Â The steak on them was not flat iron, more like pot roast. Â No cheese to speak of, just a watery cheese sauce that was a whitish, yellowish color. Â I asked for jalapanos on the side and they obliged and even diced them for me but the took all the seeds out so no heat. Â I would not order these again, they were really pretty awful. Â Of course, I came home and read the other reviews and realized Nachos are not the thing to order here. Â Oh well, my bad!
My husband on the other hand, did the intelligent thing and ordered a Reuben in an Irish establishment and loved it. Â The bread was toasted, not grilled and the dressing was on the side. Â A bit lighter than some Reubens and he really enjoyed it. Â Damn him, I was jealous of his meal. I gave up fries for Lent and if I'm going to indulge in a Reuben than I also want to indulge in fries so a no go for me.
On the upside, friendly service, and decent prices with a great beer selection.
We'll probably go back but I'll stick to the their Irish specialities like the potato soup, Reuben, fish and chips, or one of their many other Irish dishes.
How have I not yet reviewed Muldoon's? Â Shame on me! Â This is one of our favorite casual dining establishments and part of the reason we'd like to move to Wheaton. Â You're treated to some excellent Irish hospitality here and we've always had great service. Â But the food! Â The food is what keeps drawing us back...
It's an Irish-themed pub & restaurant if you hadn't guessed from the name, but not in a cheesy kind of way. Â Everything we have ever eaten here has been delicious. Â Seriously, you cannot go wrong. Â My absolute favorite is the Guiness Tips with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies, all topped with a to-die-for Guiness gravy. Â I could easily eat the whole plate it's so good...but for fear of needing to be rolled to the car, I resist and take half home to enjoy the next day.
Then there's dessert! Â I can never choose just one, we always get the same two: the English Toffee Sticky Pudding & the Carrot Cake w/Jameson Scented Cream Cheese Frosting. Â Those two desserts are pure heaven for me. Â If I had to choose just one it would be the Sticky Pudding, as I have a preference for warm desserts and I adore toffee. Â But we order both, eat half of each and take the other two halves home. Sometimes the dessert leftovers make it to the next day...sometimes they make an irresistable midnight snack.
We aren't big beer drinkers so I can't tell you anything about their brews. Â I can say they have quite a few and others we've been there with seemed to enjoy their selection.
If you find yourself with a grumbling tummy in Wheaton, head to Muldoon's. Â And even if your tummy isn't grumbling there's always room for dessert!

In my opinion, I look at Muldoon's in two different lights, as a bar and as a restaurant. Â As a pub, it's a solid place to grab a beer with friends, especially if you're from Wheaton. Â But as a restaurant ... yikes. Â I would say most the menu items at Muldoon's are a notch below what you'd expect to find at a pub-type eatery. Â I want to like Muldoon's food, but I've been disappointed too many times.
I used to get the Cobb salad. Â Then one night, the turkey tasted weird and I felt sick all night. I don't expect much food-wise from places like Muldoon's, but I don't even like their burgers. Â Their chicken tortilla soup is among the worst I've ever tasted and their version of nachos should be avoided at all costs. Â AT. ALL. COSTS.
I do like Muldoon's baked potato soup. Â The BLT chicken wrap is safe.
I've had wildly different experiences with service. Â As a regular for trivia night, we have a waitress who always takes care of us. And she is great, very friendly, prompt, etc. Â But I've also had experiences with other servers that were pretty bad. Â My girlfriend and I once waited like 40 minutes to pay our bill (from the moment we got our check to the moment I signed the credit card slip). Â I've also experienced some rude service.
The place can get really busy, especially during the summer and holiday breaks. Â College kids back home flock to Muldoon's. Â
Positives: For Wheaton residents or people in the area, decent place to meet up for drinks (partly because there aren't many options ...), trivia night is definitely fun.
Negatives: most of the food
had dinner with friends here the other night. had a salad and steak which were both tastey. i found it interesting that this was a dry city but this place found a way around by serving food (or something like that).
only negative to this place was its location. took us forever to get there coming from the city. im sure this is a great option for those that live nearby. if you are in the area - stop in. seemed like it would be a cool place to watch a game and have some finger foods.
I have a total soft spot for Muldoon's. Â As Wheatonians (Wheatonites?), my fiance and I often hit Muldoon's as our fall-back burger/beer place for a quick Friday night dinner or a weekend lunch. Â We always have good, attentive service, are seated quickly (this place gets PACKED on Friday nights), and the food is good, standard bar fare, but good. Â Also, my fiance and I came here for lunch on the day we got engaged...after a morning walk and engagement, dozens of phone calls, and stopping by my parents' to show off the ring, we were hungry and excited...so I will always be fond of this place.
Review Source:If I could give an extra half star, this would be a 3.5 star review. Â Muldoons is pretty standard pubbish food. Â The regular food menu is better than the specials, in my opinion, as I don't think there's anything too fantastic about the daily special items based on what we've tried before. Â I love their shepherds pie and their pot pie - DH loves the Royale burger. Â Service is pretty average and sometimes it can take a little while to get drinks brought out - I am not sure if it is because it is constantly packed or if it's just how they are. Â The room by the door is freezing in colder weather, which can be kind of annoying if you get stuck at the table right inside the door, so something to consider. Â Otherwise, decent, standard pub fare/ comfort-type food.
Review Source:Loud, ignorant staff (the male guy we had), not attentive to their customers, waited 20 min to get anyone to come to our table. then we had to ask for water. he took our beer order which we got about 7min later. Â so 30 min into this trip here, we were lucky to get a waiter and a beer. Â then he had attitude too??? by Muldoons. Â Maybe the youngsers that go there put up with that...but my money spends quite nicely at much nicer/better places.
Review Source:For those of you who have never stayed past dinner to enjoy the nightlife, you may think the four stars are a bit generous. I frequent this pub about once to two times a month depending on the season for drinks and to catch-up with friends in the area.
The other night I stopped in with family for only a meal, and was left a little unsatisfied. Now, I know what Muldoons is: a pub. For some reason my parents had the place that came before doons and ordered some salmon and pasta dishes. I had a patty melt and it was glorious. So, if you come here for food, keep in mind that they are pretty good at serving burgers, poppers, and fries. If you want a fun, light, young, and busy evening, check-out this place.
Oooo I almost forgot. Try the pineapple infused vodka they make. It's yummy!
This place has a pretty extensive menu (both food and drinks) and I was pleasantly surprised with my meal. Â I ordered a spinach artichoke dip/grilled chicken sandwich and it was pretty tasty.
Decent monthly beer specials, a large menu, and separate bar and restaurant seating make this place a good destination for just about anybody. Â Thursday night trivia is also really popular.
There isn't an overabundance of decent places to grab a drink and some food in Wheaton. Â Muldoon's is nice to have around.

Muldoon's is an American/Irish Pub. Â They have a great bar menu and you must try their sliders (prevents hangovers). Â The drinks are easy on the gullet and the wallet. Â They can also do some pretty amazing things with Guinness (ask my wife, she did NOT have the sliders, Great Night/BAD morning).
When they have live music the band sets up in the corner right next to the bar which may lead you to tripping into them, but what the heck you can buy them a beer apology. Â
The bartender was great and enjoyed his job. Â He even laughed at my jokes. Â I tipped him well.
A great night starts next door at Tasting Devine (wine shop) and finshes at Muldoon's (or rather when you safely make it home).

Thanks to a friend's suggestion, I tried Maldoon's Baked Potato soup. Â OMG!!! Â It's like heaven on earth. Â It is not only the best Baked Potato soup I've ever had, the presentation is picture perfect. Â Seriously! Â It made me wish I had my camera with me. Â
In my book, this earned Muldoon's an additional star AND repeat visits from yours truly.
My 3 girlfriends and I were  starving and were looking for a place to  get some good food! We walked in the right place.
We got seated by the front door (it was cold) with people coming in, but even after sitting and getting introduced to our waitress, I requested a new place to sit and they let us without any hassle! So great friendly environment.
My girls and I all got the buffalo chicken wrap (delicious!!) I loved the spice and it included a side so I got seasoned fries. Yum! Especially for a price of less than 10 dollars.
Quick service. They had also provided warm bread with butter as soon as we sat down. They were quick to fill up our waters and get the bill, and everything. We were in no rush. It was a fun night, and had a nice crowd for a Wednesday night.
This was my first time in Downtown Wheaton and I liked it. Next time, I'm going to go for a longer stroll to see what's there! Definitely would eat here again!
Muldoons is one of the few places open after 9 PM in Wheaton which makes it a Mecca for late time hang outs if you don't want to drive a long way away.
The bar is decent and the food is adequate. Haven't had bad service in the several times I have been here but the overall experience remained average. This is a very positive A-OK though and will definitely be back.
The wife and I ate here several weeks ago - I know I've been lazy! But summer has been beautiful, if even a little too warm!
Anyway, I thought the food was great! The setting had, what I will call, the "typical" restaurant-pub-bar hybrid feel. You know the ones where you'd happily take your family and grandma during the day then come back later that night for a few drinks and some late-night music. Well that's what I got from Muldoon's.
As I stated above, the food was great! The meal is started with a loaf of bread. We added on an appetizer of mozzarella sticks. I had the Blarney Bacon Burger, which is a burger with bacon, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese an fried onion strings. My wife had a Ballybunion Club, which is like a triple decker turkey club sandwich.
Our service was good and the price was OK - $43.00 for appetizer, two entrees, and two drinks... the $43 is after tip too. We got two meals out of it too!

So you're in Wheaton and you're looking for a Guinness, perhaps a Smithwick's, and a place to watch the match. Muldoon's is probably your best bet and heck, you may see some familiar faces from around town since it's in the town square part of things.
That said, you visit from another city, further to the east that starts with a 'C', ends with an 'o' and has a 'hicag' in the middle, and what you find is basically one step off a Bennigan's.
The starter bread was delicious and kept coming (but with cold pats of butter, come on now). The menu is standard "pub" fare, sandwiches, big salads, entrees and burgers. The potato soup I was told was delicious and sure enough, one bite and I think my salt intake for the day was satisfied. The Irish BLT however, I cannot abide - Texas toast notwithstanding. It had cheese on it, which yes I ordered it knowing that and had hoped it would disprove my "cheese doesn't belong on a BLT" theory... fail. The Irish bacon tasted a bit off as well, I should have gone with the 'Merican version.
It'll do for what it is, and I'm sure the big salads are delicious. And heck, they even had a burger with my beloved Stilton on it - for $10. So your prices are not exactly what you think when someone says "suburbs" but might be what you think when someone says "Wheaton".
This is the first Irish Pub I've been to that didn't have any Irish people working it. It really just seemed like a regular bar with a fancy name. Maybe I came on a night when all the Irish are chilling at home.
Aside from not living up to the name on a Thursday, I was all about the trivia night. It was pretty awesome. We won some free shots and had a jolly ol' time playing with a good group of people. And we can't complain about the drinks we did pay for. $15 for 3 drinks. Not bad at all.
Always been a huge fan of this place going back to the time they opened.
From the warm bread, to the baked potato soup, to the blackened steak bites, to the burgers, to the chicken spinach melt, to the fries, the food is excellent. As far as Irish authenticity, I just care about good food and they deliver.
I've always found the service solid and the bartenders are usually talkative and on the friendly side.
I like this place a lot and I used to come out there every Thursday for karaoke (which is good times, too). Â The main bar area is always crowded and the back bar room is a little more spacious and open. Â
They serve lamb-burgers, which is awesome. :0)

Very hometown atmosphere, nice bartenders, same crowd there often, which is to be expected because it's the only bar open at night in the fair city of Wheaton.
So why the missing star? Â Their nachos. Â Yes, I am a fan of nachos and these are "Irish Nachos" or some other lovely thing of that nature. Â I love all nachos.
Except the ones with green peas in them.
Yes, my nachos had green peas in them, along with something that resembled pasta sauce. Â I wish I could only deduct a half star for this because it seems so petty, but dang, a girl needs her cheese nachos, and green pea nachos just ain't gonna cut it.
If this happens to be a rare Irish recipe I don't know about due to my lack of culinary knowledge, then I take it all back and give this place 5 stars.
Everything else is awesome about this place. Â Just don't get the pea-nachos.
I'm torn about this place because when the food is good, it's very good and when it's bad...well, let's not go there. Â We stick to the burgers and the home made soups and salad dressings. Â Their chicken rice soup and Thousand Island dressing is fattylicious, and sometimes on Saturday they have the all-you-can eat soup/salad special. Â We caught it for $6.95 and took the salad home. Â My son loves the burgers and my husband likes the bleu cheese potato.
Having said that though, I have to agree that service is spotty (try to sit in the front room, where they clear people out quicker) and other food we've tried hasn't been that great. Â We go back for lunches, avoid dinners, it gets too crowded.
Went here after dinner for a quick pint, stayed too long...

If you're lucky (or maybe unlucky) they'll be playing "Iron Bartender", where you get to rate two competing special shots invented on the spot by the bartenders -- for $5, it's a steal. Assuming, of course, the shots don't suck.
Great vibe in this place, mixed crowd of young to old. It gets loud, especially when the music kicks in. Fun place, though. Good for us old farts -- the action starts early...
We didn't eat, so I can't rate the food. Bar tab seemed about right...
Somehow, I still can't get over the fact that this is a real bar in downtown Wheaton. Ah, I remember the days...
Well, it is open late during the week, but that doesn't make up for my dislike of the food and the high priced beers. Â Once I got a turkey sandwich and I swear they used that Carl Budding lunch meat on it! Â The prices are high compared to other pubs (not in Wheaton, Glen Ellyn) in the area. Â I would be ok with paying more , but it's just not worth it.
They do have live music here, so that's a plus and there's a few outside tables when the weather is nicer.
