Mulligans is mulligans. I'm one of the locals and its that typical shitty dive bar that everyone either loves or hates but still goes to. Nice to have a few drinks there because its cheap and the familiar faces are typically an ok thing. no complaints on the bartenders. kinda used to them. jukebox is fun, pool table is fun. never had the food even in the almost 8 years ive been going there. Not that i go often, especially for a bar that is walking distance. went more when i was younger. now just once in a while for a spontaneous drink. worth checking out.
oh and yes they do have live music once in a while. place is small but cozy.
WOW. After moving back to NJ after being in North Carolina for 4 years I had the pleasure of visiting one of my old stomping grounds Mulligans Pub. Â The place has done a 180 in terms of decor and clientele and the new owners are such gracious hosts. Â Phil and Todd really turned this joint around. Â Cheap beers, daily specials, great bar food and hospitable bartenders make this my new go to place for a relaxing adult beverage while watching some football. Come check this place out.
Review Source:Don't come out of your way to come here but if you are in the area it is actually not a bad place to stop and chill. Â It is right off NJ Parkway exit 137. Â You can get off and on right up the street so it is easy to find. Â
Here's the highlights. Â It is recently re-opened and they have a new menu. Â Basic burgers, wraps, sandwiches... And GREASE TRUCK FAVORITES!!!! Â And bar pies. Â It is definitely a dive bar, possible occasional live music although I have never heard any there. Â So, a small yet decent beer menu. cheap strong mixed drinks, and good bar food. Â Ok.
Here is my problem. Â I went and thought it was the normal dive bar crowd. Â So my 1 friend and I waste no time ordering a bunch of food and drinks. Â The bartender had a cold stare on the whole time. Â No pleasant smiles, not even a stop to ask if we needed something. Â We literally had to wave at her every time we needed something. Â Then, then I looked around and thought, "they must think we are cray" Â we had like 7 plates to share and about 12 empty glasses and bottles. Â We obviously were the spenders of the night. Â I was shocked that the bar tender did not cater to us a little more.. Whatev. Â In addition to the not so nice bar tender there was also a small group of young ladies there who proceeded to tell me that the bartender was their friend and I better be more careful who I make faces at when they aren't looking. Â LMFAO!! Â
Had to leave that time before I finished getting burgered or beered. Â
By the way, I love NJ.
**updating this to be more specific as to when the incident with the bartender and her friends occurred.  This happened  a couple years ago.  But worth sharing because it is a local dive.  No doubt that in a town this small this is once again the place people hang.
They have re-opened again. Â I haven't been there in a while. Â This place would be a whole lot better if they had live bands, karaoke, etc.... Â There's basicaly nothing special or unique about Mulligans. Â It's just your boring, average Jersey bar with a digital jukebox. Â I think they only stay in business because they are one of the only bars in the town, aside from Frenchy's.
