This is my go-to spot on the Skillman Avenue side of Sunnyside.  With the worn couches, fireplace, and windows that open wide, Murphy's exudes character and charm.  Add oysters and clams on Thursdays through Sundays - $1 a pop or $10 for a pint and six - live music, friendly  bartenders to the mix and you have the perfect neighborhood bar.  The walk down Skillman from Woodside adds to the charm too. On autumn Saturdays it almost feels like you're in a college town and folks are at the football game creating a stillness and quiet that can be rare in New York City
Review Source:I finally made it here on a Saturday with a few friends to try the oysters and clams-- surprisingly good. However, I wasn't sure what to expect since the bar doesn't have a kitchen but they set up a little area with ice and bivalves and a guy to shuck them. I guess it's just that easy.
Review Source:What a wonderful renovation and addition to the community. The oysters and clams are surprisingly fresh and tasty and SO CHEAP! Seriously, just the week before, we were in Manhattan and were paying 5 times the price for crappy oysters.
Staff is great and I love the new atmosphere. A can't  miss place in Sunnyside/Woodside!
Murphy's has the best vibe of any bar in the neighborhood. They've got an oyster bar and build-your-own Bloody Mary options on the weekends. There's an open fireplace with bench seating in the back. And small, wooden tables line the walls, perfect for quiet conversation.
A quiet conversation is exactly what you can expect at this establishment. The regular patrons are a bit older than the clientele at more high profile bars on Queens Blvd. While Murphy's may lack a certain youthful energy, it has plenty of charm. Drinks are cheap and the service is friendly. This spot has quickly become my neighborhood favorite.
The beers on tap do lack variety. And the carbonation doesn't feel quite right. But until the beer bar options expand in Sunnyside, this is as good a place to nuzzle a pint as any.
female bartender is a joke and has a disgusting attitude towards new customers...we were ignored for over 10 mins on purpose by her why we did not know.Eventually we got served and we decided to go next door where we spent  tons of money and stayed all night...we just moved to the hood 5 new potential customers
in our new apt and whoever runs this joint needs to 86 mrs happy and get their staff to hustle not have an attitude,,,will never ever return to mrs happy again...oh yeah and we actually have $$$ to spend and are irish
My boyfriend and I LOVE Murphy's Bar!! Â We live in Sunnyside and were craving oysters one night. Â We googled "Oysters in Sunnyside" and found them on-line and realized they were only a 5 min. walk away. Â The atmosphere is lovely!! Â They play great music (not that top 10 crap some other Irish bars play) and they often have wonderful live music. Â They have an AWESOME oyster special...6 oysters and a pint for $10! Â Mike Murphy is AWESOME...everyone who works there is awesome. Â Great food. Â We will go back again and again!!
Review Source:My friend and I wanted to go for a low key quiet drink. Â We were in the Queens area so we went to Murphys on Friday night. Â Turns out it was music night and it was fantastic. Â There was a full line-up of Irish musicians with accordions, fiddles and all sorts of instruments. Â The music was not too loud so we could still have a conversation. Â
Can all Irish people sing?!!?! Â During the night, different singers sat down and sang with the musicians, even the bartender!!!! Â He is a really great singer and also this girl sang and she blew us away...She was fabulous and should be famous!!!
Murphy's bar is New Yorks best kept secret. Â The Guinness was very very good and the ambiance was just perfect. Â Old timely, relaxed and very friendly. Â
I will certainly be back!!!!!
I have only been here a few times, and not even on a day when the Oysters are around!! Which I am sure is Amazing, I actually don't eat Oysters so not too important for me to check that out. Which I guess I can mention now, they do it twice a month on Saturdays, 1pm.
The few times I have been here I went for the Music, no loud Pumping annoying music, just nice singing and nice music. Not all Irish-Jig kind of music neither, but yes there is an Irish slant in the music.
The bartender even sits in for a few songs during the night and has a really good voice in my opinion. So much so I really want to go back again and again just to listen some more. Not too mention I like the way the bar is set up, nice and cosy and even a Fireplace!!
The regulars that go there have all been friendly and talkative, mostly people that live in the area.
The also have a very unusual food Item which I will save for my next review. :)
