What's a temporary cure to the shivering cold? AYCE hot pot at $16.88 per person.

Unlike most places, the food items will be stuffed into ONE glass platter. We ordered the usual items: fatty beef and lamb, various fish balls, shrimp, mussels, various forms of tofu, vegetable, pig kidney, beef tripe, etc. Most of the items were served frozen so I'm guessing their AYCE hot pot has yet to reach the general public? I didn't mind how everything was glued together in frost. They were fresh and edible regardless.

We had the spicy and mild broth. The spicy broth was definitely lacking the "ma la" effect. The complimentary sauces were sha cha, garlic, and soy sauce. There isn't a lot to choose from but that will just do.

Sure, I could probably go 3-stars here, but I feel compelled to dish out 4 because a true 3-star establishment wouldn't take in an impromptu and rag-tag team of 12 very sweaty persons holding 8 bottles of champagne at 3:30 in the morning just hours after the 2013 New Year's countdown took place with smiles on their faces.

It's nothing flashy, the Sriracha bottle is sticky and overall it's pretty basic but they were able to sling 4 tables together in about 20 seconds to accommodate our large group and they fit 2 out of 2 of our criteria while searching for eats that very late evening. 1.) They were open and 2.) They were BYOB. We were sold!

Located in the new Chinatown strip, this relatively small spot houses several tables and booths as well as a small bubble tea bar. They host nightly specials including a $15.95 lobster special that I can't vouch for as I stayed veggie on this visit. The prices seemed pretty cheap to me and the food came out quickly despite our putting off ordering for a half hour while we waited for 5/12 of our team who was still en route.

    Items ordered:
    * Veggie egg rolls (4 for $3.25) Each a good size and very filling
    * Japanese Tofu Appetizer ($5.95) was a large portion and apparently Japanese tofu means it's a slightly softer tofu on the inside. The sauce on top was sooo good that I'd consider ordering this as a meal next time since the portion is enough for one person.
    * Kung Pow Tofu (by request $7.95). The portion got me through two full meals and though I've never found Chinese cuisine to be able to reach the level of elevated spice that I enjoy, the smoky flavor in the peppers and roasted cashews were fantastic.
    * Stewed Mushrooms and tofu ($7.95) Very oily and almost entirely flavorless. Highly bland and while lite to bite, heavy in gubby.
    * Noodle Bowls - while I didn't try the noodle bowls as they don't offer any non-meat options, the bowls were jam packed with noodles. If  you stuck your fork and spoon in together, you'd fish out a fist-sized mound with every pull, though the other topping were pretty sparse, leaving our group to wonder if the meat and extras might be hiding under the noodles or just absent.

The bill for 2 people who left with leftovers was $25-$30 with tax and tip. Not a bad deal considering the mighty New Year's Day breakfast it supplied me with.

While I wouldn't name My Place a destination spot or anything that I'd go out of my way to get to, if you're looking to fill a VERY late night (I believe they're open till 6am- but don't quote me on that) with eats and looking to BYOB as well, this is a totally legit and fine option to make your evening plans of eating Chinese food and drinking whatever you brought with you come true.

Came here for some chinese dessert cravings, but this barely counts. Compared to any chinese dessert place in the SF bay area, it would be a 2-star or lower for the selection, but apparently Chicago doesn't have anything like a Creations Dessert House etc.??? So given that, this place will have to do. You can get a few hot tea, milk tea, and smoothie options, a few creme brulees, and a handful of other coconut/tapioca stuffs. Note to self: they don't carry eggettes (aka egg puffs/gai daan jai/ji dan zai)! Amazingly, I don't think any place in chicago does. :( How can chicago have shaved ice (Joy Yee's) but no egg puffs? *cue market opportunity*

They had a special on lobster the day we went, and inadvertently bought (yup). It tasted fine, although this place looks more like a hang out joint for cheap eats, HK-style, rather than canto lobster. Hot kumquat lime tea is soo good on a cold night. Bonus points for chill staff and being open til 2am even on a holiday night.

This place was okay. Same staff, and the food on the menu looks similar to Tasty City's.

I ordered the chicken ramen at this place. Lots of noodles..the texture of the ramen was ramen, unlike Slurping Turtle's "boiled spaghetti-like" ramen. The chicken was very tasty, though! Yum! It was an okay dish. We came here with a group of friends who all ordered different dishes. My husband ordered a rice dish that came with green beans and meat. It was a small portion, so he was still hungry after eating it. He did say it was very tasty, though. My other friends liked their dish, so overall had a good decent time here.
