Having a Mom who was a professional cook I feel qualified to know what good food is..Four of  us ladies went to the restaurant on a Tuesday night and we definitely enjoyed the really good food and will go back. The owner is a partner in another well known restaurant in the Peoria area.  I read the other reviews and I don't understand the negative ones.  I think the critics about the wait staff is debatable..but the food was worth it.  The chef did the salmon I ordered to my dietary needs. Everything was fresh, crisp salad, great dressing choices, and the vegetables tasted just out of the garden. Overall I left feeling very satisfied, and in spite of the very young waitress who was very kind, but who made new at the job little mistakes, I have New Amsterdam on my favorites list.   Carol H.
Review Source:This place was disappointing. The chips were   stale and when the food came out it was cold. The food just tasted bad. I sampled some of everyone's food it was either bland or overly salty. The service, however, was very good. The location was nice; right along the river with a gentle breeze blowing (if you choose to eat outside). I guess the best was to sum up my experience is this: I hope the chef doesn't get part of the tip I left...
Review Source:A group of 8 of us went here on a Saturday night. The food was excellent and the service was superb. I ordered the fish and chips and my husband ordered the nachos (which were fully loaded). Both dishes were fantastic and we ended up sharing each others. i ordered the white sangria and some of the other girls ordered the red sangria. Both were excellent. Great outdoor dining experience on the riverfront. We will be back!
Review Source:Read all the reviews and hesitated about going. Glad we gave it a try. The atmosphere was very modern and inviting. The wait staff was courteous, and attentive. Â We had the Mr French Onion grill, and the Dutch flatbread. Both were delicious! Â We got our food right away. The Blues music and the gorgeous view of the river made for a great experience. We will definitely go back!
Review Source:After my obligatory two visits, I have to say this is another bomb in this location. WHY does this wonderful location right on the river with a cool interior and outdoor seating have to consistently fail at serving? Is each new owner merely hiring all the previous staff? Because it really seems like it. Servers need to learn some basic tenets like: silverware is necessary for eating, don't bring our food and then disappear for 20 minutes because then we can't tell you that you forgot something, and if you can't fake smile, you shouldn't be in food service. I think everyone who works here just found out their dog died. Don't even bother waiting at the hostess stand if it's empty when you arrive (and it will be). Just go right in and tell any server you see where you will be sitting. It's the only way to get food.
Our food both times has been a big bowl of MEH. I haven't had chips that stale since I raided cupboards in my freshman dorm. I should've left a chip clip as my tip. Prime rib sandwich is "served with a side of au jus" but instead the sandwich came drenched in liquid so the bun was disintegrating and just had to be eaten with a fork. Chicken strips were delicious but I think I might be able to go some other places for chicken strips, like down the street to Hooters.
Get it together Amsterdam before you become another casualty of this location's curse. You have been open too long to still be having this much trouble with servers.
Four of us went to the New Amsterdam Bar and Restaurant today for a late lunch while attending the Peoria Grand National Weekend. We were met with a warm welcoming greeting and was seated promptly. The food was very delicious and a little on the expensive side, but well worth the price. Two of us had the Mrs. French sandwich, another had the Mr. French, and the other had a Dutch Club sandwich.
Our waiter was KT, a fine example of excellent customer service. He was very attentive and made sure our meal was cooked to our liking. If there were more than 5 stars I would give them a higher rating.
Well done gentlemen, we'll be back again when visit Peoria again!!!
